This special edition of The Glazov Gang was hosted by Ari David, the host of the Ari David Show Podcast, and joined by Raymond Ibrahim, Shillman Fellow at the David Horowitz Freedom Center.
Raymond came on the show to discuss The Ugly Truth about Historical “Voluntary” Islamic Conversion, unveiling how most of the non-Muslim ancestors of today’s Muslims were converted to Islam.

Peter Buckley says
Contrary to claims by muslims and Islamic apologists, examples of forced conversion can be found in the Qur’an. There is an episode in which Muhammad and his jihadists have taken non-muslims prisoner. In order to save their own skins, they are forced to claim they are muslims:
And they swear by Allah that they are most surely of you, and they are not of you, but they are a people who are afraid (of you)
If they could find a refuge or cave or a place to enter into, they would certainly have turned thereto, running away in all haste.
(Qur’an 9: 56-57)

“DID ISLAM SPREAD BY THE SWORD?
It’s a common accusation made against Muslims and Islam in general: “The only reason Islam is a world religion is because it spread by the sword.” [And death for apostasy!] It’s a favorite remark of ‘Islamophobes’ who parade as analysts and historians fear-mongering about the threat Islam supposedly poses to the Western World. With it being such a hot topic that causes so much debate, it is appropriate to analyze [bowdlerize] and study [obfuscate] this topic to better understand whether it is valid or not.”
“The purpose of this article is not to delve into [admit the facts] the tactics and individual BATTLES of this CONQUEST of Egypt, Syria and Iraq. It is enough for OUR purposes here to state that Syria was under Muslim control by 638, Egypt by 642, and Iraq/Persia by 644. The Byzantine Empire, having lost its religious base in Syria, [CONQUERED] as well as its commercial base in Egypt [CONQUERED] was greatly weakened. The Sassanid Empire, on the other hand, completely ceased to exist after the Muslim CONQUEST. Politically, it was a disaster for these two giant empires. But, going back to the main idea of this article, how did Islam AS A RELIGION spread in the CONQUERED areas?”
“Unequivocally, the general populace was not forced or induced to convert to Islam. If anything, they were encouraged to continue living their lives as they had for centuries before.” [Citations? They lived for centuries as dhimmis?]
“‘Proof’ of the lack of forced conversion in these areas is the REMAINING Christian communities in these countries. For the first few centuries after the Muslim conquest, the MAJORITY of the population of these areas remained CHRISTIAN. Slowly, they began to ‘take on’ Islam as their religion [to escape dhimmitude?] and Arabic as their language. Today, large percentages of Christians remain in Egypt (9%), Syria (10%), Lebanon (39%), and Iraq (3%). If those early Muslim CONQUESTS (or even later Muslim rulers) forced conversion on anyone, there would be no Christian communities in those countries. Their existence is ‘proof’ of Islam [the CULT] not spreading by the sword in these areas.”
“The first Umayyad caliph, Muawiya, appointed a general, Uqba bin Nafi, to CONQUER the North African coast from the Byzantines in the 660s. Again, without getting into the details [the sordid facts of CONQUEST] of the tactics and BATTLES, within the course of a few decades, Muslim CONTROL over North Africa was solidified.”
“The same pattern we saw in Southwest Asia continued in North Africa. Conversions were not forced on any of the local populations. NO ACCOUNTS, [This is PROOF?] by either Muslim or non-Muslim sources, mention forced conversion of the Berbers. [Of others?] Indeed, many Berbers did convert to Islam quite quickly.”
“We now come back to the question posed at the beginning of the article: did Islam spread by the sword? While numerous people with political and religious agendas make their case otherwise, it is seen as a clear and indisputable fact that the RELIGION [CULT] of Islam was not spread through violence, coercion, fear, or bloodshed. [There was no bloodshed in the CONQUESTS?] There exist no accounts [This is PROOF?] of people being forced to convert to Islam under any circumstances.”
Absence of proof is proof of absence?
“While the political and military control of Muslim leaders did in fact spread through DEFENSIVE WARFARE, [You CONQUER through ‘defensive’ warfare? What were they doing at the Gates of Vienna 1683?] Muslim leaders and generals in fact went out of their way to protect the rights of other religious groups. The warfare was always carried out only against the governments and armies that the Muslims WERE AT WAR WITH [That moslems were ATTACKING – DEFENSIVELY, of course!] . The local citizens were left alone.* Although this article only gives specific examples of a few regions, this trend continued THROUGHOUT Islamic history, following the precedent of the early Muslims.” * [I think Robert could refute that.]

This Jihad Watch link or the Jamie Glazov site would be a great link to share with sheeple university students who claim to desire critical thinking. Assuming of course that their professors “give them permission”.

Awesome. Ibrahim is brilliant. So tired to these Islamic apologists claiming that the Middle East today is Islamic (in majority) because their ancestors could not resist to the “truth” of Islam (Yeah, right.)
Jay Boo says
Islam is a fiendish mob mentality in waiting.
That is its greatest strength as well as its greatest weakness.
Accuse someone of insulting Muhammad and Muslims salivate at the opportunity to steal the ‘high ground’ with mob violence through grievance mongering.
Of course this eventually backfires as we see now in Syria, as Muslims turn on each other in yet another self-made Islamic hell-hole. Islam cannot survive for one minute without having someone to hate just to justify its pathetic existence. Very incriminating indeed.

…nothing else quite like a good old-time muzzle’em mass conversion…
Cecilia Ellis says
Raymond, as usual, you “pull the prayer rug” [1] out from underneath the Islamic apologist, and you do so by using both common sense and historical evidence. But for the sword of Islam, Egypt would probably still be a Christian-majority nation, as would many other countries in that region. Your description of the 7th-century mindset on conversion, as occurring only under dire circumstances, was superb!
[1] A JW reader, in a reply to a previous article, posted this phrase. I sincerely apologize that I do not remember who did so, but I thought it was great. So, whoever the author is, know that I tried to give you credit for an awesome statement.

This tells a lot about Islam.

As i see it, here’s the problem with Ray’s analysis. Yes, we have the issue of ahistoricism and post-modern projection of current thinking onto that of the medieval mind. Yes, the issue of conversion in those days was a rare thing – in both Christians and Muslims…Muslims because it was for apostasy and the pain of death and…well..Christians who “coverted” upon threat of pain of death.
Given that this is all true – it is all true because medieval man did not have “science versus religion” at hand. He did not have the option of conversion to another faith, as we do, at his fingers – literally – because of factors such as the internet, for example.
So here’s the question I need answered by Ray. Modern man DOES have the instant ability to convert, say, from Islam to Christianity. Yes, there is the sacralized order of death to apostates…but why do we not see more conversions from Islam? Or are the numbers being hidden from us?
Is the real truth of the matter, that, indeed, huge numbers of Muslims ARE seeking to apostize – and simply cannot, due to fear of death – or is the same “difficulty of conversion” that was present in the Middle Ages still the same spots on the leopard in the 21st Century, due to cultural/familial/tribal pressures?
