In PJ Media today, I discuss how, at the UN yesterday, Obama tripled down on his politically correct Mideast fantasies, while Putin correctly analyzed the Islamic State and Assad.
Barack Obama and Vladimir Putin both spoke at the United Nations on Monday, with Putin reiterating a call he made in September for an international coalition against jihad terror and the Islamic State in particular. Obama again rebuffed that call, although this time he left the door slightly open to some kind of cooperation with Russia.
The sticking point is Bashar Assad — and the differences that Obama and Putin have over Assad’s regime demonstrate yet again that when it comes to the jihad threat, Putin is assessing the situation realistically while Obama is operating in the realm of politically correct fantasy.
Putin skewered those fantasies in his UN speech Monday when he noted the failure of the Arab Spring to do what Barack Obama and the entire political and media elites insisted it would do: bring to the Middle East a flowering of democracy and freedom:
Instead of the triumph of democracy and progress, we got violence, poverty and social disaster — and nobody cares a bit about human rights, including the right to life. I cannot help asking those who have forced that situation: Do you realize what you have done?
No, they don’t realize what they have done, and they’re poised to do more of it.
They still occupy the corridors of power. Those who warned at the time that the “Arab Spring” would in fact lead to “violence, poverty and social disaster” were dismissed and derided — we continue to be dismissed and derided — as racist, bigoted “Islamophobes.”
No matter how often the establishment analysts get things wrong, and disastrously, fatally so, they never get called to account, and they keep applying the same failed solutions over and over again.
The disagreement between Obama and Putin is a case in point. The Americans and French and the others in the Western coalition are merely carrying out cosmetic strikes against the Islamic State — strikes that even the mainstream media has begun to acknowledge are more for appearance’s sake than for making any real dent into the Islamic State’s holdings. Meanwhile, Russia is now acting with Iran and its client regimes in Baghdad and Damascus to do something genuine to fight the Islamic State.
Obama won’t join in or aid this effort because of Assad. The New York Times on Sunday summarized his disagreement with Putin on this:
American officials, who have long cast Mr. Assad as the primary source of instability in Syria, assert that the Syrian leader’s brutal crackdown provided an opening for jihadist groups and that the crisis cannot be resolved until a political transition is negotiated that requires him to leave power. But Russian officials see the Syrian government as a bulwark against further gains by groups like Islamic State and Nusra Front and sometimes suggest that the defeat of the Islamic State should come before a negotiated solution for the Syrian conflict.
The U.S. position assumes that the Islamic State’s power and appeal is based on outrage at the crimes of Assad, and that therefore its support would melt away if Assad were gone.
No one who has ever read anything that the Islamic State has published or any of the accounts of why people join it could hold this position.
Of course, the Obama administration and the other governments of the West are committed as a matter of policy to ignoring and denying the ideological and religious appeal of the Islamic State. Since they maintain that the Islamic State is not Islamic, they have to find some other reason for its appeal to young Muslims worldwide. That reason is supposedly Assad’s atrocities.
Putin, by contrast, is more realistic. He realizes that the Islamic State has global ambitions and is by no means only devoted to removing Assad, as anyone who has ever paid the slightest bit of attention to them knows. Thus he knows that removing Assad will only strengthen the Islamic State, and that the Islamic State will be the chief force able to take advantage of that removal.
The U.S. position is based on fantasy. The Russian one is based on reality. The Iranian involvement is unfortunate, but now that Obama has concluded his disastrous nuclear deal with the mullahs, it can hardly be said that the U.S. has a better handle on the Iranian situation, either….

Believing in God or not is a personal decision, and should be. But the decades old argument that secular humanists replace God with the religion of Marxism is by now beyond credible dispute. So we see the spectacle of Merkel, Cameron, Hollande, et al. showering incoming “refugee” young men with socialist gifts. The men brandish what children they’ve brought along as props for the TV cameras.
Weak horse strong horse. Secular humanist (atheist) Europe is the former now, and has no ideology or will to resist the Hijrah, which is upon them in full force. The Hijrah is driven not only by the socioeconomic incompetence of Sharia management in their source countries, which mostly is *not* Syria, but also by the ideology of Islam, which for 1,400 years has fed off the weakness of others.
Don McKellar says
Merkel, Cameron, Hollande are are Christians. So your premise is false. What party does Merkel belong to again?
Not to mention that it is a non sequitur and illogical. As an atheist, I am interested in logic and facts. Marxism is fantasy-based wishful thinking without facts nor a basic understanding of how human nature works. It has no place in my “beliefs”, nor in any thinking person’s beliefs in the 21st Century.
Anushirvan says
I rather think the problem stems from the intentional promulgation of clichés as a propaganda tool to soothe the apprehensive mind of the general public with. The worst and most rotten of clichés are those that hold no link to a discernible truth, established in fact. If we hear our politicians reiterate that “there is such a thing as moderate Islam” or “that genuine Islam is a religion of peace”, and such, then vast swathes of the general public will take this too often at face-value, no matter how much the cliché can be proven wrong, objectively. These clichés are not simply promulgated by moral relativists on the left of the political spectrum anymore, but rather are furthered and believed by a multitude of people, disregarding what political / philosophical / religious creed they belong to. PC and Multiculturalism have turned into an all-pervasive doctrine that has infected and permeated whole societies and goverments across political divides, by way of the simple mechanism of argumentum ad populum (appeal to the people), a fallacious argument that concludes that a proposition is true because many or most people believe it: “If many believe so, it is so.”
This fallacious conclusion draws mainly on the constant reiteration of the fallacy itself by our politicians, and, to some degree, we tend to conclude that, whenever a cliché gets repeated often enough and by a sufficicient number of people to whom we attach a certain degree of authority (like the MSM), it must indeed be true. And quite frankly, most people would simply leave it at that and would not take the time to expose the falsehood themselves. No one can actually suggest that such a propaganda exercise stems solely from politicians who belong to the left of the spectrum, seeing as this technique is widely applied all over the West.

You cannot blame Putin for all the evils of the KGB. Besides, the CIA is not a bunch of saints discussing the Bible. How many have they also killed?
Dan says
Apples and oranges argument.
Yes the CIA hasn’t exactly got harps, wings and halos
But last I heard, the world was roughly 85% despot, dictatorships, of their own making, who think nothing of openly butchering their own people.
And with a UN mouthpiece all these country’s representatives have a world wide soapbox to spew anti American any/everything.
The difference with the CIA/U.S. and the KGB/U.S.S.R. is that the U.S. HASN’T tortured and killed MILLIONS of its own citizens.
So the CIA at least has a shot at having some characters with better morals that the KGB.
But you know what?
When it comes right down to it, no matter what the U.S. does, the world is never going to be happy.
In times of crises, if the U.S. doesn’t do anything the world bitches, whines and moans they’re not helping.
If they go in and try to get rid of a dictator, the world bitches, whines and moans they’re toppling governments.
If they go in and try to work within the system, the world bitches, whines and moans they’re supporting tyrant regimes; largely because they can’t SHOOT the s.o.b.s stealing MOSTLY AMERICAN HUMANITARIAN SUPPLIES from their own starving people, so they can buy weapons to continue the conflicts that create more starving people.
Because the world would also bitch, whine and moan.
So okay.
You’ve got a worldwide soapbox here.
Exempting the current U.S. Administration, (Although actually I’ve still seen a lot more examples of American charity in the world than I’ve seen from other nations.) (And I’ve spent more than just a few tourist weeks in dozens of third world countries.) kindly please tell me which country, as demonstrated by its practices on its own people, is a better example to the world?
And please provide reasons and verifiable statistics to back your choices.
Peggy says
You make it sound like the US invades other countries for a noble reason like humanitarian intervention they like to call it.
Grow up. The US doesn’t do anything for a noble reason but for self interest just like any other country.
You say that you can’t compare the two countries because the US hasn’t tortured and killed millions of their own people. So torturing and killing millions and starting rebilions in other countries resulting in millions killed is not having blood on your hands? As long as it’s not us is your defence?
One thing I do agree on is that what happens under a president can be blamed on that president. Nobody is above sacriificing their own people to get an advantage.
The CIA is just as bad as the KGB, Mossad or the Stasi. They are all capable of terrible things it’s just that you won’t hear about many CIA inspired horror. You will probably have more chance of hearing it on Russian media and hearing about KGB on US media.
Trust me, they are all as bad as each other.
Dan says
No, Peggy I don’t trust you.
I don’t know anything about you, except that it looks like you have a serious chip on your shoulder about the U.S.
And of course the U.S. has its own interests at heart.
As you said, every country does.
Especially the 80 some percent of the countries in this world that are cruel dictatorships, MOST of those of their own volition. And they were tyrannies long before the U.S. was ever formed, so don’t go blaming the U.S. for that.
But let’s leave out the governments of these countries in general, and look at the people themselves.
I spent six years sailing around the world, LIVING for months in some countries, and by far American people GIVE the most; even more than my own country, Canada.
Australia seems to be next on the list, and most European countries come in a distant third, and lower.
And that’s on a per capita basis so population numbers don’t count.
The rest of the world’s countries really couldn’t give a rat’s patootie about any people other than their own, and in many of those cases, charity doesn’t even begin at home, in the country sense of things.
I ain’t a Bible thumper, but in the vast majority, it’s Christian countries, (And Israel) that give, because we are taught to help our fellow man.
I spent nearly a year in the Honduras, and ran into some American kids (Under 30’s) who refloated a derelict boat, gathered up over a million in aid and medical supplies, and made several trips to Haiti after the earthquake.
I was also anchored beside some wealthy guy’s yacht for a few months, and the Captain, just a working stiff, raised over 4 million in construction and emergency supplies, then used his contacts with the U.S. military to haul the stuff over in any spare hole on U.S. military planes and boats.
ALL of China gave a million bucks.
Pretty charitable people there, a billion people couldn’t outdo a working stiff and some kids.
Wonder what Russia gave.
What does Russia ever give in fact, except propagandists backed by military hardware.
Has the CIA done “questionable” stuff?
Of course.
But part of their job is to get their hands dirty, when talking won’t work.
Thinking everybody’s going to play nice just because “we” do, especially countries that have no problem killing their own people, is a fool’s errand, as ridiculous as saying if we ban guns, the crooks will quit using them too.
If you seriously believe the U.S. is torturing and killing millions, you need to get off the conspiracy sites.
Pretty much ever 3rd world country I was in, the inhabitants do nothing but talk about getting to the U.S.
The never dream of getting to Russia, or China, or to European countries.
They want to get to the U.S.A. because enough Americans have provided example of the decent people a free society can produce.
Mazo says
Dan, your logic works like that of a three year old child or you are high on your bong.
Logically, the MORE populated a country is, with MORE people, the LESS it should give in charity to other countries.
I did not know, how countries like India and China are supposed to hand out charity and give out more than the USA if they have over 1 billion people to feed and less habitable land area than the USA.
This is like asking a poor family with 20 kids to donate more than a wealthy couple with a single child, and, asking how come if they have 20 kids, why they kids can’t pay up and go on a starvation diet for a month. How is some poor farmer or worker supposed to donate money.
The USA grows far more food than it consumes and in fact exports food,, is not overpopulated, and can freely donate without doing harm to itself while India, China and many other countries grow food at subsistence levels to feed their own population.
Dan says
And why can’t I blame Putin?
He’s in charge.
People are still blaming Bush.

Right, so when I point out the obvious I have a chip on my shoulder.
I have never said anything against the people of US. I only condemn the government of US current and some previous ones so all your talk about how Americans are the most generous people in the world is irrelevant.
People can be extremely generous and welcoming but when their governemnt goes in and destroys countries which makes people ever worse off and in need of more aid just cancells all that generosity.
Again, not blaming the people for any of this. Americans are just as misled as any other people by their government.

Your moral equivalency thinking, Peggy, is showing up again. America is far from perfect but it is still the greatest guarantor of freedom in the world. Just imagine the last hundred years of mankind with one difference——no American military. Everything else the same but no American military. Do you really think the world now would be substantially the same? My God, you might be dense enough to actually assert it would be better off. America was the decisive factor in WWI, WWII and the Cold War. The American military has not come to oppress or to take territory. Generally speaking, where the American flag has gone freedom has followed. The American occupation of Japan under General MacArthur from 1945-1951 is just about the most enlightened treatment of a defeated enemy in all of history. Do you get any of this?
American troops still stationed in Japan, South Korea and Germany are not there to oppress in any way but rather to defend and keep the peace. The American Navy keeps the sea lanes open across the world and without it there would be piracy aplenty and economic chaos. After WWII, America provided huge amounts of aid though the Marshall Plan and did not subject nations like France, The Netherlands and West Germany to servile, satellite status as the Russians did in Eastern Europe.
Wake up, Peggy, A world without America would be a world that would be subject to the tyrants of the earth. I don’t deny that the current POTUS is pathetic but America over the course of the past century has been the world’s best hope. One knows this or should know it. You don’t. Well, this is a clusterf*** of ignorance, idiocy and ill intentions. I see no basis for thinking that the US dropped atomic bombs on Japan because they were “racist conquerors”. In fact, you go to contradict that by claiming that they did it to test their weapons and impress the Soviets. Face the facts, Vuki: Japan had plenty of chances to surrender. Unconditional surrender or prompt and utter destruction. Did they surrender? No. First bomb fell. Unconditional surrender or prompt and utter destruction. Did they surrender? No. Second bomb fell. Did they surrender? Yes, because the Emperor pressured the war council – sorry, the “Supreme War Council” – which, by the way, was unheard of, and twisted their arm into accepting the terms set in Potsdam. And even then there was a failed coup – certain elements in the government attempted to prevent the surrender. Does that sound like someone who sued for peace? No, what the Japanese wanted was a slap in the wrist and to keep all the territories they invaded. Go ask the Chinese who lived in Nanking at the time, or the Nauruans and Aleut who endured Japanese occupation what they think of Japanese, Americans, and the atomic bombs. In fact, go ask a Japanese person nowadays if they bear a grudge against the US.
The truth is, the Japanese army leaders were hoping to make a last stand in Japan – they wanted the Allies to invade Japan, and they were willing to sacrifice their citizens to inflict major damage on the invading forces. The alternative to the atomic bombs – again, AFTER Japan refused to surrender – would have been much more costly, especially to Japanese civilians, who were already subjected to a months old naval blockade. In a way, the bombs gave the Japanese government a way to save face – our army, strategy and spirit is superior to theirs, but they have this doomsday weapons which we can do nothing against.
“More Bull shit you did this to gain control of Western European industry which is in American hands to this day.”
Nope.
“Everywhere America intervened tyranny followed. Look at the Middle East”
Yeah, I’m sure that Nazi-occupied countries have America to blame for that… sarc./ off.
Perhaps it’s you who should look at the Middle East – did the US invaded the Middle East and placed Saddam, Gaddafi, Assad or Morsi in power? Truth is, the Middle East was a tyrant-ruled hellhole long before America even existed as a nation, and that’s because of their culture, which is inseparable from their religion.

But I also agree that Putin is showing a better grasp of the reality of the situation. A further strong suit which he holds is that for better or worse, Putin is a Russian patriot thinking first and foremost of his country’s actual interests; Obama is a half-educated person steeped in a hatred for his own country. Putin, who has apparently made his peace with the Russian Orthodox Church (and, hopefully, with God through Jesus Christ), also has a keen sense of who he is and his country’s history; the O is a walking post-modern American identity crisis tending towards a hatred of everything that made American wealth and power possible.

Can a good Muslim be a good American?
This question was forwarded to a friend who worked in Saudi Arabia for 20 years. This is his reply :
Theologically – no.
Because his allegiance is to Allah, The moon god of Arabia .
Religiously – no.
Because no other religion is accepted by His Allah except Islam.(Quran,2:256)(Koran)
Scripturally – no.
Because his allegiance is to the five Pillars of Islam and the Quran.
Geographically – no.
Because his allegiance is to Mecca, to which he turns in prayer five times a day.
Socially – no.
Because his allegiance to Islam forbids him to make friends with Christians or Jews.
Politically – no.
Because he must submit to the mullahs (spiritual leaders), who teach annihilation of Israel and destruction of America, the great Satan.
Domestically – no.
Because he is instructed to marry four Women and beat and scourge his wife when she disobeys him. (Quran 4:34 )
Intellectually – no.
Because he cannot accept the American Constitution since it is based on Biblical principles and he believes the Bible to be corrupt.
Philosophically – no.
Because Islam, Muhammad, and the Quran do not allow freedom of religion and expression. Democracy and Islam cannot co-exist. Every Muslim government is either dictatorial or autocratic
Spiritually – no.
Because when we declare ‘one nation under God, ‘The Christian’s God is loving and kind, while Allah is NEVER referred to as Heavenly father, nor is he ever called love in the Quran’s 99 “excellent names”.
Therefore, after much study and deliberation…Perhaps we should be very suspicious of ALL MUSLIMS in this country.

PUTIN MORTIFIES OBAMA LIKE KHRUSHCHEV KENNEDY AT VIENNA
It was two months before Obama was born in the year that saw the start of our military involvement in Vietnam that John Kennedy, just four months in office, met with Nikita Khrushchev in Vienna. It was a disaster for the US and the inexperienced Kennedy (“Khrushchev savaged me,” he said); just like the UN Summit (hours shy of the 77th anniversary of Munich) was a disaster for the US and Obama (aka “the new JFK”).
In the aftermath of the Vienna Summit the Soviets built the Berlin Wall (9 days after Obama’s birth) which worsened East-West tensions. Then (70 days after Obama’s birth) Kennedy sent 32 copter gunships and 400 soldiers to South Vietnam to “draw a line in the sand” against communist aggression, and show Khrushchev he had balls. Then the following year Cold War tensions reached their nerve racking height with the harrowing Cuban Missile Crisis, the closest we’ve come to full scale nuclear war.
What will the mortified Obama do in the next 14 months to regain his credibility and esteem? Or, too weak to act and caring nothing about our loss of prestige and stature, what won’t Obama do to stop our geostrategic bleeding and the dangerous, destabilizing advance of our enemies across the world?
