“They’re basically labelling me a racist and an extremist for speaking out against Islam and Islamism.” Oh, this is rich. There is a coterie of self-proclaimed opponents of jihad terror who have tried to avoid the inevitable charges of “racism” and “bigotry” — charges that Leftists and Islamic supremacists always level against any and all foes of jihad — by denouncing me and declaring that their opposition to jihad terror is different from mine, because, you see, I’m the one who is “racist” and “bigoted” and they aren’t.
They claim this even though there isn’t any significant substantive difference between what I say and what they say about Islam and jihad; it’s just a cynical tactic to try to gain for themselves some credibility with the mainstream media and the Leftist establishment, at my expense. Then, in an apex of cynicism, their followers follow up their denunciations of me with claims that I am insisting on some ideological lockstep and denouncing them for having different views, when in reality I would have been their ally and defender had they not denounced me. Among those who have done this are Tarek Fatah and Selim Mansour in Canada and Maajid Nawaz, the Council of Ex-Muslims of Britain, Sarah Brown and other writers at the blog Harry’s Place, and Maryam Namazie in the United Kingdom.
Now, having said that I don’t have any significant differences with any of them on Islam and jihad, I must make an exception for Namazie. I do have differences with her, as she isn’t really a foe of jihad at all, but is a Marxist, i.e., the supporter of an oppressive totalitarian ideology that has led to the murder of millions and millions of people, and a supporter of the “Palestinian” jihad against Israel. No one can genuinely oppose jihad without supporting the state that is on the front lines of that jihad, and so I have nothing but contempt for Maryam Namazie.
It is a bit of poetic justice that Namazie, having denounced me on spurious grounds as a “racist” and “bigot,” has not thereby managed to save herself from the same accusation. However, the weaselly little Leftist authoritarians at Warwick University should let her speak, and remember for once that a university should be a place where all perspectives can be heard and discussed, and evaluated on their merits. It is ironic that the only ones defending Maryam Namazie’s right to speak are her enemies on the “far-Right,” and that should tell her something. But it won’t.
“Maryam Namazie: Secular activist barred from speaking at Warwick University over fears of ‘inciting hatred’ against Muslim students,” by Serina Sandhu, Independent, September 25, 2015:
A prominent secularist and activist has been barred from speaking at a student union event due to fears her speech would “incite hatred” against Muslim students.
Maryam Namazie had been booked by the Warwick Atheists, Secularists and Humanists (WASH) group to speak about secularism to Warwick University’s Student Union on 28 October.
However, the group was notified last month that Ms Namazie’s speech had been cancelled. The decision has led campaigners to raise concerns about student bodies across the UK thwarting freedom of speech on their campuses.
The union said that “after researching both [Ms Namazie] and her organisation, a number of flags have been raised. We have a duty of care to conduct a risk assessment for each speaker who wishes to come to campus”.
Articles written by Ms Namazie indicated she was “highly inflammatory” and “could incite hatred on campus”, according to the union.
Ms Namazie, who fled Iran with her family in 1980 after the revolution, said she was likely to have spoken about apostasy, blasphemy and nudity in the age of Isis. She told The Independent she was “angry” her talk had been blocked.
“They’re basically labelling me a racist and an extremist for speaking out against Islam and Islamism,” she said.
“If people like me who fled an Islamist regime can’t speak out about my opposition to the far-right Islamic movement, if I can’t criticise Islam… that leaves very [few] options for me as a dissenter because the only thing I have is my freedom of expression.
“If anyone is inciting hatred, it’s the Islamists who are threatening people like me just for deciding we want to be atheist, just because we don’t want to toe the line.”
Ms Namazie, who considers herself an anti-racist campaigner, added: “To try to censor me, does a double disservice to those people who are dissenting by denying people like me the only opportunity we have to speak.”
WASH appealed against the union’s decision earlier this month. The group’s president, Benjamin David, said: “The infringement of free-speech is becoming insidiously ubiquitous, and many universities, including Warwick, are circumventing the freedom of speech in pursuit of inoffensive, sanitary narratives.”
The move has also been criticised by the National Secular Society, which said it would be writing to Warwick University “to remind them of their legal duty to promote and protect free speech”.
“Unfortunately it is part of a worrying wave of censorship that we’re seeing across British universities under the guise of ‘safe spaces’… it’s utterly disheartening,” said Stephen Evans, the society’s campaigns manager. The concept of “safe spaces” had a “chilling effect on free speech,” he added.
Isaac Leigh, president of Warwick Student Union said: “The initial decision was made for the right of Muslim students not to feel intimidated or discriminated against on their university campus… rather than in the interest of suppressing free speech.”…
What’s the difference?

Congressman Ellison needs to shut up. Islam is not a religion but rather a way of life, a mode of living, an ideology that happens to include mandates for worship. As part of the Koran, Sharia law is included. The Koran and Sharia law provide for KILLING of infidels, treat women and gays abhorrently and demand this of all of its believers. If Ellison faithfully follows the beliefs of Islam, he is in conflict with the Constitution.
Guess Ellison does not want to talk about the assassination and execution orders that the highest authority in Shia Islam has issued, the duty of all Muslims everywhere to kill Salman Rusdie on sight, Fatwa by Ayatollah Khomeini and reissued by his successor.
Islam is a religion ? Okay, it is a religion in which its highest leader Khameini, Supreme Leader of the Armed Forces of Iran, has the authority to issue assassination order. Will Ellison admit that this execution order is in conflict with the U.S. Constitution and if he is a Shia Muslim he is required to follow it and kill Salman Ruside if he sees him.

Look up the word ‘deen’ or ‘din’, an Arabic word from a root that refers to ‘justice, governance or way of life’.
Deen is mostly translated into English as ‘religion’, but when Muslims say the ‘deen of Islam’ they refer to the theocratic fascist political system, discriminatory legal system and misogynistic culture of Islam.
Muslims try to disguise the reality of their totalitarianism by precluding all discussion of it!
That is so such censorship that the totalitarianism may not even by mentioned! There is in effect ZERO freedom of expression regarding Islam.

“…the INTEREST of suppressing free speech.” An interesting choice of words?
Instead of: “…rather than indulge in censorship and the suppression of free speech.”…
“…the RIGHT of MOSLEM students…” Another interesting choice of words.
Why not the right of ALL students?
“Unfortunately it is part of a worrying wave of censorship that we’re seeing across British universities under the GUISE of ‘safe spaces’… it’s utterly disheartening,” said Stephen Evans, the society’s campaigns manager. The concept of “safe spaces” had a “chilling effect on free speech,” he added.
Can Stephen Evans, or someone else, analyze speakers, for say the last ten years. How many were ‘pro-mo’ or antisemitic, anti-Jew or anti-Israel, and the opposite?
Can we learn the simple statistics AND the trends?
Is there an MSA or BDS support group on campus?
Do Jews/Israelis feel that they are living in a ‘safe space’ ALL THE TIME, not just when a speaker comes?
I would like to see an ‘audit’ of the campus newspapers too, they are NOTORIOUS for being run by the extreme left. Do they show a clear bias against Jews/Israelis/conservatives/others, or a clear bias in favor of particular groups?

Muslims aren’t the only ones using the race card. Most non-Muslim Western PC MCs use it as well against critics of Islam. Namazie’s writings “could incite hatred on campus”, could they? Oh dear, we cannot have that. Statements that “foster hatred” constitute “listed behaviours” under the “Unacceptable Behaviour policy”. For that did Theresa May bar Robert Spencer from entering Britain.
What about this “excellent pattern”?
“Between us and you animosity and hatred forever”.
Could that “incite hatred on campus”?
It most certainly could, and is intended to. Where does that come from? Why, Koran 60:4, no less, part of Islamic law. It cannot be denied. Anyone who denies it is to be killed. This can be done vigilante style and penalty-free by anyone “since it is killing someone who deserves to die” (Manual of Islamic Law, “Reliance of the Traveller”, o8.4).
The union should direct its attention to the Islamic presence on campus.

Yep, Allah’s quite a hater:
[2.65] And certainly you have known those among you who exceeded the limits of the Sabbath, so We said to them: Be (as) apes, despised and hated.
[5.14] And with those who say, We are Christians, We made a covenant, but they neglected a portion of what they were reminded of, therefore We excited among them enmity and hatred to the day of resurrection; and Allah will inform them of what they did.
[5.64] And the Jews say: The hand of Allah is tied up! Their hands shall be shackled and they shall be cursed for what they say. Nay, both His hands are spread out, He expends as He pleases; and what has been revealed to you from your Lord will certainly make many of them increase in inordinacy and unbelief; and We have put enmity and hatred among them till the day of resurrection; whenever they kindle a fire for war Allah puts it out, and they strive to make mischief in the land; and Allah does not love the mischief-makers.
[35.39] He it is Who made you rulers in the land; therefore whoever disbelieves, his unbelief is against himself; and their unbelief does not increase the disbelievers with their Lord in anything except hatred; and their unbelief does not increase the disbelievers m anything except loss.
[40.10] Surely those who disbelieve shall be cried out to: Certainly Allah’s hatred (of you) when you were called upon to the faith and you rejected, is much greater than your hatred of yourselves.
[60.4] Indeed, there is for you a good example in Ibrahim and those with him when they said to their people: Surely we are clear of you and of what you serve besides Allah; we declare ourselves to be clear of you, and enmity and hatred have appeared between us and you forever until you believe in Allah alone– but not in what Ibrahim said to his father: I would certainly ask forgiveness for you, and I do not control for you aught from Allah– Our Lord! on Thee do we rely, and to Thee do we turn, and to Thee is the eventual coming:

Change the word “against” to “among” and you’ve got yourself an accurate report. They’re afraid of the Moslem students, afraid that the On/Off switch embedded into their hairy backs will be flipped to the On position by her speech, resulting in riots, arson, bomb detonations and even a few murders by stabbing or gunshot. For that is Islam. The authorities at Warwick U are, in a word, terrorized.
The key to this, as with other Fictive Realities, is freedom from factual reality. There will be no accounting for the fact that 7/7 happened, that Rotherham happened and is still being swept under the rug, that Glasgow Airport happened, that dozens and hundreds of like things happened. Everything’s basically ok, they tell us, and can remain so if only we maintain a respectful silence.
They should bring in news entertainer superstars Bill O’Reilly and Laura Ingraham to give a presentation on the proper etiquette of free speech. There’d be no trouble then.

I have recommended the work of Robert Spencer often and to many, and also have recommended the videos and anti-Islamic political work of Maryam Namazie. I did not know of any antagonism between these two, nor that Maryam Namazie was actually Marxist.
Looking up some background, I found the following, which is most relevant here.
Maryam Namazie Frequently Publishes Misrepresentations about Iranian Politics
November 15, 2014 by Kaveh Mousavi
http://www.patheos.com/blogs/marginoferr/2014/11/15/maryam-namazie-frequently-publishes-misrepresentation-and-lies-about-iranian-politics/
I certainly have to agree with some key points made by this author. Clearly, the Khomeini revolution was Islamic and had very strong grass roots Islamic support. For Namazie or anyone else to say otherwise is ridiculous.
Robert Spencer says: “I would have been their ally and defender had they not denounced me.” Well, my path forward is clear. First, Robert Spencer is a bigger name and more effective than Maryam Namazie. And Maryam Namzie turns out to be Marxist, as Spencer claims. See
http://maryamnamazie.blogspot.com/2011/08/robert-spencer-should-be-more-honest.html
So she is Marxist but not Stalinist. In this case Namazie is a bad guy ( bad girl ) in my book.
I have found Maryam Namzie’s youtube videos to be intelligent, reasonable and effective. So is some of her political work. But I just became a former ally of hers.
Iran is a difficult, dangerous, and unstable place on several key levels. I have posted repeatedly on Iran ( mostly elsewhere ), in particular on the insane Shia Muslim rape / executions of many women and the slaughter of many thousands of progressive opponents ( and Marxists ) in Iran.
Namazie is wrong about some basic stuff ( which I can see even as a non-Iranian ), and she is an opponent of both Spencer and Geller, and she is a Marxist. Now Namazie just lost a significant university venue. It would be better for ( basically ) all the anti-Islam people to co-operate. I can certainly support left-wing socialists. But as a humanitarian I oppose the Marxist-Leninists. Lenin was a terrorist. I oppose Nazis, Marxists, and Islamists for the same reason. They are all fascist, and I am a committed anti-fascist. I will continue to promote some of Maryam Namazie’s work, but I am now her opponent.
Summary: Once again, Robert Spencer wins. And an opponent of Robert Spencer takes a beating.
TamIAm says
I agree, Kay.
The West becoming more and more radically Leftist, Marxist has enabled Islamic jihad to advance to the degree it has. If the West is really going to fight the jihad it has to also fight against (counter) radical Leftist ideas like cultural relativism and Marxist anti-capitalism. It has to proudly stand up for the fundamental values that Western civilizations were built on, like individual rights, which Marxism denies. If Namazie is a Marxist then I can’t be a supporter of hers.
Also, if Namazie condones the “Palestinian” jihad against Israel but ostensibly opposes jihad in general then she either doesn’t really understand jihad at all or she doesn’t fully oppose it.
One of the other counter-jihadists Robert mentioned in his article, who denounces him and tries to avoid the same charges of racism and xenophobia, Tarek Fatah, also has some views that I find unsupportable. In an interview on Sun News Network he said it was arrogant of Westerners (non-Muslims) to take a stand on whether there is something inherently wrong with Islam or not. He said we should just fight our war against the jihad and let Muslims fight their own war for their religion. Well, excuse me but I don’t think it’s arrogant to have an opinion about a faith that is seeking to overtake my own and all others by means of the sword if necessary. Whether there is something inherently wrong with Islam is important because it goes to whether it can be reformed and how difficult it would be to reform it. Westerners need to know this when deciding whether to take in immigrants from Islamic countries, how many to take, how to vet them etc.
It’s very important. In any case, it’s also nasty of these counter-jihadists to try to distance themselves from people like Robert Spencer who the mainstream media has denounced as a bigot to try to avoid the same charge while essentially fighting against the same thing. Robert Spencer is right, is it poetic justice that Namazie is being called an inciter of hatred now.
Of-course, like Robert Spencer, I think awful that she isn’t being allowed to speak and it’s disturbing that universities, which are supposed to be havens of critical thinking, debate and the free exchange of ideas are restricting speech to avoid offending Muslims.
voegelinian says

Sam Harris has done essentially the same thing, if more lithely.
In this video, for example, Harris dismisses critics of Islam and jihad who came before him as “fascists” and right wing nuts, without pausing to consider that perhaps his opinions of them are the consequence of previous smear campaigns much like the one of which he is the target. (And: “many of those whom he [Harris] may assume are actually bigots and racists are actually just people who have said the same things he is saying now and are previous victims of the campaign that is now victimizing him. “)

Well, a lot of Marxists believe that Stalin perverted Marxism, but that the a Marxist society would be a good thing if only it were properly instituted and the right people lead the way.
They don’t see that destroying the right to own private property, including private business, leaves the creative, productive, independent-minded individual at the mercy of the coercive powers-that-be and destroys the social structure that prevents the rise of oppressive forms of government.
These Marxists have an incredible faith that Marxism would work, despite the fact that Marxists have screwed up every single time they’ve tried to realize their dream.

Re Kepha: “A Marxist, but not a Stalinist?”
——————————————————–
Hi Kepha. Those are the correct questions, and very important. Simply put, a Marxist believes in class struggle, up to and including violent overthrow of bourgeois society.
When people say “Marxist”, it really means Marxist-Leninist. As when people say “Christian”, it really means “Jesus the Christ plus Apostle Paul”. Buy one, get one free, same package.
Lenin was a terrorist. He wrote a pamphlet in 1917 calling for terrorist violence, meaning violence against civilians. ( I don’t have the translation. )
The crucially important Russian Marxist strategist Trotsky basically agreed with this, altho I don’t have the specific references.
Why is this important to us now? Because al-Qaeda, al-Shabaab, Islamic State, Taliban, Boko Haram and all other Islamofascist outfits follow the basic principle that Leon Trotsky put forward:
Make chaos and instability and things will open up and create opportunities for the revolutionary vanguard to fight and win.
Creating chaos thru terrorist attacks is a PRIMARY modern strategy for ALL the Islamofascists. We see it literally all over the world. This is a key principle which must be understood.
Social warfare ( including terrorism ) is PRIMARY to Marxist-Leninist thought and strategy.
Social warfare ( including terrorism ) is PRIMARY to Islamic thought and strategy.
For a number of reasons, the Islamofascists are way way better at it. Both Adolph Hitler and Vladimir Lenin would drool to see the dedication and effectiveness of these Islamofascists. Basically they all share a criminal / sociopathic / psychopathic / warfare mentality.
In that basic sense, there is little difference between Nazism, Marxism-Leninism, and Islamofascism. Conventional categories of “Political Leftist” and “Political Right Wing” simply don’t apply. Especially not in the 21st century.
When the European “antifa” ( antifascist ) struggle in the streets with the anti-Islamist demonstrators, they actively support the most dangerous and effective fascist gang on the planet, which is Islam, the criminal gang that wants to eat Europe. Go figure!
Maryam Namazie’s political road is idiotic and a dead end. Marxism literally died by 1992, in Europe and in the Soviet Bloc. Anyone who supports Marxism after 1992 is a joke. And yet, the Left is Very strong in Europe and they are bringing in and supporting the ultra-fascist Islamists. This puts Maryam Namzie in the worst possible position, as seen here. She FAILS!
The sociopathic and brutal German Nazis were more reasonable and more sane than these psychopathic Islamic invaders. Leftists support them. The radical left have lost their senses. Like Chomsky. The Islamists are the worst of the worst, criminal psychopaths bent on cultural genocide everywhere. Yet European antifa support them, as do major European leaders like Angela Merkel and the EU. Europe is committing suicide. The Dangerous Consensus will break Europe unless we get together and fight it back and down. We Must Defeat The Left.

These western organisations don’t get – Muslim sentiment ‘is Islamic sharia law’ ~ which goes way beyond ‘strong feelings’.
There is a troubling trend across the western world – and that is to label former Muslims as Islamophobes and racists – and further there is talk of legislation against Islamophobia – which is perfectly in line with the tenets of sharia law.
Which in fact Warwick University should openly admit that it now adheres to – in place of the fundamental rights and the freedoms of man.
::
Maryam has left Islam – and has been booted out of the protective sphere Muslims enjoy.
It is a crime in Islam for former Muslims to speak on the subject of Islam. That means that her speaking offends Muslim sentiment.
::
It does feel like a bit of comeuppance – because the Left have been so cruel – now faced with – as they call it “the so-called Islamic State” throwing out throwing out Koran verse barbs – across the entire world ~ ‘like kill them where you find them’ 2:191 and the 4:24 verse that allows the rape of captive women – find themselves in a position where they need fortify their pro-Islamic space even further.
So be warned – anyone speaking of the actual facts to do with Islam – former Muslims [with real life knowledge] or not – will be labeled as a racist /Islamophobe and their right to speak rescinded!!
::
Today the anti-racism campaigns are not only carrying [enforcing] the sharia – but socialist-Marxism. Moreover – because they claim to be anti-racists – they and the Muslims [often of the most radical kind] – can be the only voices allowed to be heard on a spectrum of social matters.
But once the Muslims get their way – they step from behind the Left. Case in point the taking over of the East London Borough Tower Hamlets – these Muslim groups used the Left to get it – then threw them out – when virtually all the local gov. funding was directed to more fundamentalist Muslim projects – and when the Left challenged their usurpation – they pelted them with charges of racism/Islamophobia – the very same tactic the UK Left used on everyone else. [They managed to throw the bums out via the court in the end]
::
In Denmark [?] a Left leaning journalist who always wrote in favor of Muslims – one day wrote a piece that urged Muslim leaders to take more responsibility. Not long after – Muslim youths followed him – on his way home and pelted him with stones.
No doubt a part of Warwick’s decision – free speech in this case – was the possibility there might be a terrorist attack at the school.

I’m always getting emails from Maryam Namazie under the ‘One Law for All’ banner (she’s campaigning against Sharia Law in the UK). I’m not sure why I’m getting them, but the proposition seems fair enough – you can’t have two legal systems in one democracy. I realised that she seemed to have a feminist slant on it all (makes sense with the Sharia bias against women, and fits with Marxism), but I didn’t realise that there was an anti-semitic element here. That’s NOT on, if it’s true! There’s an official move here to ban muslim extremists from UK campuses, so perhaps they’re trying to make it look as though they’re ‘playing fair’ by banning anyone who could upset anyone else. The fact that muslims are upset by absolutely ANYTHING that happens to take their fancy if they want to make bl**dy nuisance of themselves (as per normal) clearly doesn’t come into the frame. The authorities over here did the same sort of thing with airport security. When the muslims were doing their normal explosives-in-the-shampoo-bottle or explosives-in-the-shoe or explosives-stuck-anywhere-where-you-can-stick-explosives (yes, even THERE) routines, the orang-utans at the security gates deliberately made a point of frisking just about ANYONE for the sake of making it look fair; yes, even your grey-haired 80-year-old granny wearing her crucifix, or a carmelite nun! So that they would not upset the muslims, of course (despite the fact that the entire charade was caused by muslims in the first place, but we don’t mention that, do we?). Then, of course, the muslims kicked up the normal fuss when they introduced those ‘through-the-body’ x-ray scanners (they were only introduced because muslims were threatening to conceal explosives in ‘certain places’). And, of course, passengers were then treated to the spectacle at one of the London airports of female muslims with full-face coverings, etc., just being waved through security. You really coudn’t make it up! So if Maryam Namazie is getting annoyed, and of course Mr. Spencer is very annoyed, then it’s because we are all unwitting actors in an on-going farce here in the UK (a good old British theatrical tradition, I believe, just like the ‘Carry On’ films).

Let’s expose and promote their Internal Class Contradictions, lay on the pressure, and crush these bleeders on this specific point.
If we push hard enough, the whole Leftist infrastructure will come come down all at once. They think they’re tough. They think they’re politically correct. They think they can clobber the bourgeois/ free speech / established order. And that Islam is their hammer to do so.
But all they really have is a failed politics, blindness and aggression. And all they support is a foreign criminally insane fascist ideology. That can’t work. They went full retard. Especially in the Academy. We can wipe the floor with these absurd fools. In principle.
The only religion the academic leftists and the antifa thugs respect is Islam. They demonstrably respect Islam, Sharia and jihad a lot more than they respect basic human rights. Or collegiality. Bollocks to that. Nail them with this:
“The only religion I respect is Islam. The only prophet I admire is the Prophet Muhammad.”
— Adolph Hitler, quoted by Ahmed Huber; Kevin Coogan, “The mysterious Achmed Huber: Friend to Hitler”
We have to win the universities. This is actually a very very difficult thing to do in practice. It’s enemy territory and often anti-free speech. Right now the Academy is unbelievably difficult terrain. Many people here already know this. But we can cut their legs off using social media. All we have to do is go out there and fight.
I have no bloody clue what happened to Socrates and John Stuart Mill etc. in the universities. Maybe they got mugged in dark corridors. But this is a Real Fight. The good guys have to fight and win. It’s about public discourse and the public square.
It’s not about prayer, except when large groups of loony carpet pilots take over a university green or a whole street to do evil prayer and block all else. They claim dominion Right Now over public spaces. This is gonna be all out cultural warfare and we gotta show up or the bad guys do win. And in a few years it will get much worse, esp. in Europe. Clear?

Also, from Albert Speer’s memoirs, “Inside the Third Reich”, he quotes Hitler as having said: “You see, it’s been our misfortune to have the wrong religion. Why didn’t we have the religion of the Japanese, who regard sacrifice for the fatherland as the highest good? The Mohammedan religion too would have been much more compatible to us than Christianity. Why did it have to be Christianity with its meekness and flabbiness?”
Speer also wrote that Hitler believed: “Had the Arabs won this battle [Tours], the world would be Mohammadan today. For theirs was a religion that believed in spreading the faith by the sword and subjugating all nations to that faith. The Germanic peoples would have become heirs to that religion. Such a creed was perfectly suited to the Germanic temperament. Hitler said that the conquering Arabs, because of their racial inferiority, would in the long run have been unable to contend with the harsher climate and conditions of the country. They could not have kept down the more vigorous natives, so that ultimately not Arabs but Islamized Germans could have stood at the head of this Mohammedan Empire.”
Speer was Hitler’s chief architect and for part of WW II was his Minister of Armaments and War Production.

That was on page 96 of “Inside the Third Reich”.

The description and diagnosis here are good, but the explanation of motivation is overly simplex. First, we can (and should) say that if the pundit-cum-analyst in question is Muslim, it’s not only what Spencer describes here, but also it’s taqiyya deception. If, however, the pundit-cum-analyst in question is non-Muslim, and is not a member of the actually tiny minority of Leftist extremists, but partakes of the broad spectrum of PC MC throughout the West which the majorit of Westerners — Left, Right, Center, Apolitical — breathe in as unthinkingly as they breathe in air, and regurgitate out their mouths or rear ends to contribute to and sustain the cultural Climate Change of PC MC — then they may well be doing it for sincerely ideological and emotional reasons: defending Muslims from a “rising tide” of “racism” and “bigotry”, felt to be as noble a cause as standing shoulder to shoulder with blacks in the Civil Rights movement.
voegelinian says
My breakdown of “Muslim” and “non-Muslim” neglected to mention that important twilight category — the Stockholm Syndrome ex-Muslim, which fits Maryam Namazie, who has merely exchanged her green coat of Islam for the red coat of Marxism, to a tee.

You complain about someone offering an “overly simplex” explanation when you have been, for months now, trying to hammer in the idea that islam in the West is privileged above other religion because of race? Oh, the irony!

I would add that quite a few non-Leftists enable this climate of racializing the conversation about the problem of Islam.
Also, back in 2013, Spencer wrote:
As Sam Harris and Richard Dawkins have recently discovered, anyone — left, right or center — who criticizes jihad terror risks the stain of charges of “bigotry” and “racism.” No one, absolutely no one, is exempt.

I’m a left-winger myself, but I’ve never seen Robert Spencer say anything that appeared racist — and I’ve read his writing & watched his TV commentary & lectures for years. If anything, he seems surprisingly restrained and even-handed.
voegelinian says
In the PC MC climate (which includes all Leftists, though not all Leftists may go along in lockstep), any criticism of Muslims qua Islam is automatically perceived, and branded, as “bigoted” and “racist”. Given that no critic of Islam I’ve ever heard or read has ever uttered any actually racist words or sentiments — nor can anyone adduce any quotes of such (I challenge them) — what’s going on here obviously is a mass neurosis or fit of mass irrationality.
Savvy Kafir says
There are a few of us Lefties who reject political correctness and cultural relativism, and who are extremely critical of Islam — as all progressives should be.
ECAW says
Savvy Kafir – I’ve always been intrigued that people should openly call themselves progressives because it seems so obviously narcissistic that anyone with an ounce of self awareness should cringe at using it.
Rather than say “me left”, “you right” it has become “me progressive”, “you (presumably) regressive” ie “me good”, “you bad”. So it’s become personally rather than ideologically anchored. Whatever a progressive believes automatically receives their own stamp of approval by dint of this linguistic sleight of hand.
Do you not feel just a little embarrassed about using the term? I’m sure I would.
Wellington says
Sounds to me, Savvy Kafir, that you are a throwback to old-fashion liberalism which could recognize evil and nonsense when it saw it (e.g., Harry Truman and Clement Attlee).
Now, as a conservative myself, I still have disagreements with old-fashion liberalism, mostly dealing with economic matters and how much government is optimal, but I can nonetheless respect it because it never lost its collective mind, which is exactly what has happened to liberalism since the 1960s. To be complete and fair, I fault many of my fellow modern conservatives for two things: 1) they’re not all that conservative; and 2) they have lost their collective guts. This is why I would easily prefer a Truman over a Romney or a McCain right now even though I am, as I already indicated, a conservative.
Thanks for your post and I welcome to the fight of fights in our age someone like yourself on the Left who grasps what Islam intends for us all, if only we let it. We must not let it.

Agree in full. Haven’t seen his books. Have seen Spencer on youtube, which is necessary to get an emotional signature. And read lots of his stuff online. Am quite certain I fully get what Robert Spencer is about. Did NOT get that Namazie was a Marxist before this week. She’s toast as of this year.
This is important. What is a racist, really? Someone who is very backward, emotionally, psychologically, socially, intellectually. A racist is emotionally blind and emotionally aggressive and basically anti-social.
Spencer is a very high-functioning, effective, reasonable and philosophical person. He communicates extremely effectively and he works well with others. He is not supporting a specific dogmatic position but a universal and deeply concerned human rights position, and he takes a well-informed global perspective.
His arguments are clear and well developed and well supported. He’s not being mean, but patient and very balanced in dealing with opponents. He is highly diagnostic, patiently faces harsh irrationality, and wins all over the place. The opposite of what his foes say of him. They want everyone to ignore and avoid Spencer and Jihad Watch because they cannot defeat him directly.
It takes serious personal development to do the work of a Robert Spencer or a Pamela Geller, especially to work in real time before the public, before those who literally want to knife you. Of which there are many. Counter-jihad desperately needs good people like these: psychologically integrated, socially effective, strategic, hardworking and willing to handle all the smashface. That is very wearying and draining, as I learned back in 2009 – 2010. Not everyone can handle it. Courage is needed.

My main social outreach platform has been down for weeks, crippling outreach work. ( I promoted Pamela Geller in Texas across sixty discussion groups. ) Nevertheless I entered the fray across many youtube threads which now bear effective references to Robert Spencer stuff & Friends ( Pamela Geller, Andrew Bostom, Bill Warner, The Religion of Peace, and so forth ).
My social strategy is deep and broad, but it canna work half as well without Robert Spencer and other frontliners. So, publicly defending and promoting Spencer, Warner and Sam Harris is critical. They really lay out the Big Picture, and can lead many out of darkness and confusion. But we need social bridges!
I view the online social media struggle as desperately important all over the map. We really need people like Spencer, and for their work to be propagated, and for them to be personally defended. It’s all war now. Public discourse is become irrational, dishonest, poisoned, vicious. We’re fighting real monsters out in the wild. They are but two leggeds, not real human beings. I duel with some orcs out there. It’s NOT a “racial” type, but a PSYCHOLOGICAL archetype: sociopathic arrogance. Jihadis from ninety countries have gone to Islamic State. Mordor is now on the march. One ring to rule them all. War it is.

Leaving this one for now might be smart. Readers might take a week to get ut but this woman as 101 is spot on. There she is in the independent getting her voice out on censorship, coercion, manipulation and fear. You don’t get this exchange. This is masterful social identity negotiation. Like gracefully throwing someone across the room in an aikido martial arts move when they’ve lunged at you. It’s truly elegant.
Spencer said: It is a bit of poetic justice that Namazie, having denounced me on spurious grounds as a “racist” and “bigot,” has not thereby managed to save herself from the same accusation. However, the weaselly little Leftist authoritarians at Warwick University should let her speak, and remember for once that a university should be a place where all perspectives can be heard.
Noble victory.
We see here permanent global defeat for Maryam Namazie. And for the university Left contingent everywhere. He just broke BOTH their narratives. But the classical model of noble combat is, well, it actually goes really deep.

I’m long past the idea that I can only work with people who agree with me on every issue. I’m not a Zionist either, but I check this website fairly regularly for information in spite of its Zionist slant. I don’t care if people like me here. I care that Islam does not take over the free world.
There are useful roles for people like Maryam Namazie, Tarek Fatah and Maajid Nawaz. One is that they have not yet been totally dismissed as “Islamophobes” by the mainstream press. This means that people who are not receptive to a book by Robert Spencer may still be interested in “Chasing a Mirage” or “Radical”. People who live in ultra-liberal regions like I do do not have the same options as other people. Ex-Muslims or secular Muslims with ethnic names speaking from their own viewpoints go over much better because they are viewed as multicultural.

I think Maryam Namazie, as a Marxist, sees Robert Spencer as a far-right Christian, and it’s far-right religionists of every stripe that she sees as bigots. I don’t know whether she portrays Robert as a bigot against all Muslims simply in order to deflect leftist charges of bigotry from herself. It could just be that her own prejudice against the right side of politics plus religion has lead her to believe that Robert MUST be a far-right bigot against all Muslims, and wants to stir up hatred and violence against them. It’s in the nature of prejudice to make a person blind to evidence to the contrary.
Whatever the case, Namazie is now experiencing the prejudice of those who believe that even stating the truth about the doctrines of Islam is just too socially dangerous to be allowed, or even that it’s “racist”.
I doubt this will change her attitude toward Robert Spencer, but it’s good to see her get bitten by the PC beast.

I think Maryam Namazie is more anti-religion and NOT really anti-Islam at all. I think you have to be totally deluded to not understand that Islam is uniquely problematic.and in a class of its own as far as spreading a violence and hate. To her credit at least she doesnt lie like some and pretend that Islam is peaceful, but at the same time she is still very disingenuous by labelling all religions the same. But i guess this delusion is common among atheists.

One of the great distinctions between the left and the right in the intellectual world is that left-wing people find it very hard to get on with right-wing people, because they believe that they are evil. Whereas I have no problem getting on with left-wing people, because I simply believe that they are mistaken. After a while, if I can persuade them that I’m not evil, I find it a very useful thing. I know that my views on many things are open to correction. But if you can’t discuss with your opponents, how can you correct your views?

Following the release of this story last week I sent a complaint to Warwick Students Union and today have received this response…..
Hi Steve,
Thanks for getting in touch with your concerns. Contrary to speculation online and in the press, however, this situation arose simply as a result of miscommunication at the SU and Ms Namazie was in fact never “banned” from speaking – we have addressed this in more detail in our latest statement here, where we have also outlined the various steps being taken to now rectify the situation:

Thanks for the link but I can’t help feeling a little suspicious.
Why do they need to examine how it happened when they clearly already know? Somebody didn’t consult the SU, or so they say, so they must know who (hopefully that person is attending re-education classes as we speak).
It couldn’t just be that they took fright at the bad publicity and decided to pin it on some unnamed person further down the food chain could it?
