His story is ridiculous: he says he was just curious about ricin after watching Breaking Bad. He was so curious, in fact, that he tried to get enough ricin to murder 1,400 people. That’s a lot of curiosity. But the Telegraph, of course, reports it all without even one skeptical voice included.
What will Mohammed Ali get curious about eight years from now?
“Breaking Bad fan jailed for eight years for trying to buy enough ricin to kill 1,400 people,” by Tom Whitehead, Telegraph, September 18, 2015:
A computer geek has been jailed for eight years for trying to buy deadly ricin poison from the dark web after being inspired by the hit US television series Breaking Bad.
Software programmer Mohammed Ali, 31, was found guilty at the Old Bailey last month of attempting to possess a chemical weapon between January 10 and February 12.
Under the username Weirdos 0000, Ali struck a deal with a supplier on the internet black market to buy 500mg of powder for 500 US dollars (£320) – enough to kill 1,400 people.
Ali was unaware that his source, Psychochem, was in fact an FBI agent who tipped off police in England and substituted the consignment of ricin for harmless powder.
After the father of two took delivery of a toy car with five vials hidden in the battery compartment, police swooped to arrest him at his Liverpool home.
Under ultraviolet light, Ali’s face lit up showing that he had handled the package that had been specially treated with a marker substance….
Computer analysis showed that Ali first began trawling the internet for information on poisons such as abrin, ricin and cyanide in October last year.
The court heard Ali approached the undercover agent in January with a private message: “Hi, would you be able to make me some ricin and send it to the UK?“…
At one point Ali asked: “How do I test this ricin?” and received the instruction: “You must test it on a rodent.” Records showed that on February 4 – days before the delivery – he made a payment of 2.1849 Bitcoins, the online currency.
Around this time, Ali had made a to-do list on his computer that included the entries “paid ricin guy” and “get pet to murder”, the court heard. He had also made a series of internet searches for chinchillas, animal rescue centres, rabbits and “pocket-sized pets”.
In his defence, Ali told jurors that he was “just curious” and wanted to test the boundaries of the dark web, unaware that ricin was illegal.
He said: “I found lots of different items ranging from drugs, guns, other illegal items, and because I had been watching Breaking Bad TV show I just had ricin in my mind.”

Don McKellar says
Just curious. Many of these moslems plotting jihad terror attack claim the same thing. Seeing as virtually none of them are capable of an original thought on their own (Islam breeds that), is there an Islamic basis or precedent for using this excuse? Maybe I’m grasping at straws and they all just use it out of desperation, but I’m seeing a pattern.
Celtic Sword says
Well didn’t infidels manufacture ricin? Infidels/kafir are to blame. No Muslim can ever be blamed for their own “bad” actions didn’t you know.
Don McKellar says
Of course. How silly of me.

Eight years. That means out in four.
Meanwhile “the Justice Secretary Michael Gove is considering plans which would drastically reduce the number of inmates behind bars” in order to save money.

And one of the reasons our prison bill is so high is the massive over- representation there of Muslims….something like 14% as against 5% of the population.
Anyone see a descending spiral here?

Let’s see: 8 years, including 2 leap years, are 2922 days. That amounts to 2.087 days per person.
He should have said he bought the ricin to kill his next door neighbour – he’d be out by Monday… sarc./ off

Lets see…The only people with a need for Ricin would be psyshopathic killers, hired killers, or Muslims. It is very popular with Muslims. I realize a few perfectly normal chemists and researchers might need Ricin for their research. Since I do not wish to search on the web for uses of this substance, please someone correct me if I missed some big industrial use for this most deadly of substances.
Mulakush says
I am completely dismayed with the low level of punishment in such crimes designed for mass murder.
Our leaders are completely in a daze and those of us who protest their inattention are branded something really bad.
West is my adopted civilization. I despair for it.
I had hoped to contribute to its ongoing growth and development and I have.
But if its trajectory is for suicide, there is little I can do except protest which so far is falling on deaf ears.

The problem in the West is due to a society which has thrown out the traditions that created strong moral courage and inner emotional strength. We now have a throw away society and society may now be in the process of throwing itself away. Without self esteem, people feel worthless or become deranged and depressed. Self esteem is earned through hard effort and accomplishment, simple or complex. Learning to paint, knit, farm, mow lawns, read, speak, enunciate words, make deals, add, subtract, multiply, climbing a mountain, etc. are all disciplines that bring accomplishment. There are thousands to learn. All require discipline and all generate self esteem.
Today our corrupt government instructs our corrupt schools to “teach” self esteem by humoring kids the same way as is done in mental institutions. Psychologists say that that is the only way to maintain credibility with the mental institution residents and they insist that this is absolutely necessary for treatment of mental illness. They may be right regarding mentally ill persons in mental institutions, I would not argue that point. What I do argue, is humoring school kids and avoiding discipline to deceive them into believing they have self esteem, is totally destructive. As these perfectly sane children mature and finally find that they have been lied to all their lives, they most certainly will feel worthless and foolish. They may hate society…Or they may develop a false sense of hubris and become egomaniacs to cover this defect.
When people feel worthless, they easily go into a negative spiral that leads to negativity, drugs, depression, and a desire to die. Muslims are all too happy to take advantage and move into this vacuum, to either kill or pick up converts for their fascist religion. Islam may even bring self esteem to some of these depressed individuals albeit on the dark side. We see this happening in Europe and elsewhere today. Also a big reason to join ISIS, I would say.
To avoid all this, it is important that everyone learn well and be good at something. Feeling a sense of accomplishment brings true self esteem.
