I have taken a lot of heat for saying that there is no distinction in Muslim communities between “extremists” and “moderates” — that is, mosques haven’t generally expelled jihadis, have no programs to teach against the jihadist understanding of Islam that they ostensibly reject, etc. This incident shows that my statement is absolutely true: even the U.S. government, which supposedly “vets” these “moderates,” can’t discern that a man is a jihadi who supports al-Qaeda even while they spend a considerable amount of time training him. And probably the government’s response to this news will be to pour more taxpayer money into this failed program.
“Officials Confirm ‘Very Concerning’ Action U.S.-Trained Forces Took Upon Entering Syria,” by Oliver Darcy, The Blaze, September 25, 2015:
U.S. Central Command said it was notified Friday afternoon that U.S.-trained Syrian forces deployed to fight the Islamic State surrendered much of its coalition-issued equipment to a suspected Al Qaeda group upon entering Syria.
CENTCOM said the equipment was supposedly given to the Al Nusra Front, often referred to as Al Qaeda in Syria, in exchange for safe travel through the area.
“Today the NSF unit contacted Coalition representatives and informed us that on Sept. 21-22 they gave six pick-up trucks and a portion of their ammunition to a suspected Al Nusra Front intermediary, which equates to roughly 25 percent of their issued equipment,” said Col. Patrick Ryder, U.S. Central Command spokesperson.
He added, “If accurate, the report of NSF members providing equipment to Al Nusra Front is very concerning and a violation of Syria train and equip program guidelines.”…
No kidding, really?

Absolutely; they’ll double down versus admit failure. They’ve got a point to prove!
Who’s going to ‘vet’ the Syrian refugees?

How could this be?
NPR repeatedly reassured its listeners that this could never happen with the new and improved Muslims who call us friends.
They claimed that to say otherwise is to be a right wing nutcase.
We tried to warn them that this would happen; they would not listen.
Huck Folder says
“They would not listen
they did not know how
perhaps they’ll listen now.”
Maybe.
“They would not listen
they’re not listening still
perhaps they never will.”

The Romans had their auxiliaries but didn’t put them into action against their own tribes. And some of them practiced taqiyya, most famously Armenius (Hermann) whose success iin destryong Varros legions was based upon his intimate knowledge of Roman tactical thinking. He still. like Hannibal, failed to understand their strategic thinking which was not winning hearts and minds by distributing candy but by “if you have their balls their minds will follow”. The Chinese lost to the Arabs in the battle of the Talas river, costing them central Asia, because their auxiliaries turned against them, having embraced Islam. The T’ang had at that moment no clue about what that meant. The Americans successfully used Indian scouts against their own people, but the Indians of that time had tribal minds. Then they went on to become multicultural–an imperium which citzens were supposed to be loyal to the Pax Americana, or American (western based) civilization enshrined in the words and deeds of secular saints called founding fathers (I am speaking like a sociologist here, not as a politician or ideologue). A civilization based upon a set of ideals and values, considered self evident, although Gramsky and Naom Chomsky may disagree and call it an ideology of hegemony, which it technically is. Just like to the T’ang the superiority of their civilization was self evident, to them and the barbarians. They were mistaken in the case of the Turks because the appearance of a rivaling civilization, of Islam (apart from the fact that every civilization is a composite and synthesis of the cultures absorbed by conquest). And back to the Americans, they trained many Vietcong or would be Vietcong in an ideological war were the Americans still couldn’t grasp that their ideals and values were not self evident to all the Vietnamese. They were up against a rival civilization as embodied by the secular prophets and apostles and disciples of communism (which in the end collapsed as a political empire but which ghost still is very much alive because capitalism is still not living up to all its promises (allowing corrections from the sides). They also lost in Vietnam because of their approach, corrupting their nationalist allies. Now America has forgotten Vietnam (once saw a T shirt with “Come on! Let’s forget about the Alamo) and thinks that their ideals and values are so self evident that they belittle the rival civilization as just a culture (according to the doctrine of pc multiculturalism, which is not the same as the imperial multiculturalism of the Romans and Ottomans or even the former British). They seem to think that you can take Muslims, promise them citizenship, train and arm them and send them back to fight other Muslims. Just like that, not even as auxiliaries. Americans are so convinced that their civilization is self evident to everybody that they focus on short range phenomenon like Anbar uprising that they forget long term historical trends like studied by Toynbee and the much vilified Huntington. I think one reason is that they so rich and powerful that they can absorb costly mistakes and repeat them over and over. Because what is at stake is trust in a value system. It is Osama, not Islam. It is Atta, not Islam. Maybe they were angry because they were poor? According to American values, Islam is a culture which in the end will be absorbed into the civilization of the empire… Islam is not a rival civilization,an empire of the mind–like Christianity once was before it morphed into western civilization, Islam is a culture that will join the melting pot and Baghdadi if he sees the light will move to Los Angeles and open a restaurant called “The Sherazad”. In other words, as long as the American heartland is not directly threatened, the academics and politicians can carry on experimenting, and the costs are borne not by them. I just feel for these volunteers send into Syria as so many lab rats. What did they expect? Air cover, a groceries shop back into LA? They

Some interesting points and agree that we have never understood that we cannot own/buy off our Islamic alliances, which can only be viewed as convenient and temporary. From bin Laden to our allies the two-faced Iraqi Northern Alliance that let him escape, to the Lybian rebels that so handily fooled John McCain, the rest of the Arab Spring which we wrongly viewed as a democracy uprising, to all the ‘liberated’ Iraqis who waved a purple finger after voting in Sharia Law….it’s been a disaster we still do not understand. We extrapolated experiences with Germany and Russia, with whom we shared historical values, and wrongly applied them in Iraq. It is a clash of civilizations in the end.
Can’t say I feel too sorry for the volunteers, but shaking my head that we still believe we can ‘win hearts and minds’ when the long line of evidence says ‘no’, we can’t.

This is an absolute Obamination ! If the waste of millions of dollars, training and arming terrorist groups who have declared war on your own country is not treason and grounds for impeachment, I don’t know what is ! Shame on Republicans who have gone along with this failed foreign policy which has effected the whole world .So now the Russians will fight the bad guys who are armed and trained by the U.S.. This sounds familiar , sounds like Afghanistan and the Serb, Bosnian conflict . Even as a Canadian I still believe that the Americans are the good guys and I love The Constitution . I pray for a strong Republican Government which will bring America back onto the world stage as a Strong Respected Country .
