Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

Video: Robert Spencer debates clockmaker Ahmed Mohamed’s father

Sep 18, 2015 10:01 am By Robert Spencer

Here is video of my May 2011 debate with Mohamed Elhassan Mohamed, the father of Ahmed Mohamed, the 14-year-old boy who was arrested for bringing a clock that looked like a bomb to school, in an instance of zero-tolerance overreaction or “Islamophobia,” depending on your point of view.

Mohamed Elhassan Mohamed and I debated on the topic, “Does Islam Respect Human Rights?” The results were so bad for him that after the debate, The American Muslim pleaded with Muslims not to debate me. In any case, this debate is one indication that Mohamed Elhassan has been trying for several years to make his bones as a warrior against “Islamophobia.”

The debate starts at 31:48, after an interview with Walid Phares.

Gee willikers! Is it a coincidence that THIS man’s son brought a “clock” to school and used it as suspiciously as possible, trying to get attention with it and get a (natural and logical) reaction out of officials? And then those around him can now use it to try and drum up fake hand-wringing about “Islamophobia”? It must a complete coincidence, isn’t it???

The game that these bastards use to try and advance Islam with their “stealth” jihad is so incredibly transparent it is ludicrous! And yet, so much of mainstream media is eager to buy into it because they desperately want to buy into it — because their great savior Barack Obama is the primary promoter of such deception. And Barack Obama — the great leftist fantasy president — he just CAN’T be wrong or be lying! No way, you damn racists!

As always, I’m in awe of Robert Spencer’s recall of ayas, haddiths and history, and of his ability to marshal facts. He speaks with such clarity!
In the interest of making things crystal-clear to less informed members of the audience, and to Muslim members of the audience, I wish Robert would refrain from saying “God” when he means “Allah,” for that already concedes too much to the Islamic project. Pamela Geller took a smart step in choosing to say always “the Muslim prophet Mohammad” rather than simply, “the prophet Mohammad.” Why speak as if we recognize him as a prophet when we don’t? By the same token, why speak as if we recognize Allah as God, when we don’t? The portrait of Allah that comes through the Islamic texts is nothing like the portrait of God that emerges from Scripture.
One of the worst things that happened in this battle for minds was the photo of the Pope kissing a koran.

    Quran 98:6

“Verily, those who disbelieve (in the religion of Islam, the Quran and Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) from among the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) and Al-Mushrikun will abide in the Fire of Hell. They are the worst of creatures.”

Meanwhile, back in the real world….

“Meanwhile, when a crowd of many thousands had gathered, so that they were trampling on one another, Jesus began to speak first to his disciples, saying: “Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. What you have said in the dark will be heard in the daylight, and what you have whispered in the ear in the inner rooms will be proclaimed from the roofs.
I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after your body has been killed, has authority to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him. Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” (Luke 12:1-7)

And the referee steps in to stop the attacker and save the life of the guy on the mat.

Most martial arts schools are big on respect…Mutual respect and respect for the art itself…’Seek knowledge, not rank, and be humble with your knowledge’, means basically to speak softly but carry a big

Be sure to note Articles 24 and 25 of the Cairo Declaration–all considerations are to be in accordance with sharia and nothing outside sharia shall be accepted. Thus, whatever is said in the preamble or Articles 1-23 become meaningless.

    • Diana says

Not quite. Medina was the place where Muhammad slaughtered and enslaved everyone, and the Medina part was written later. Mecca was the place where Muhammad was too weak to do any major harm so he just preached hellfire.

He admits that the Mecca verses are better, even though they were abrogated by the Medina verses, which are closer to the Old Testament.

In fact Q5:32 (the misquoted “verse of peace” the precedes the verses about crucifying and amputating) is not based on anything in the Old Testament but on the Talmud, specifically the teaching of Rabbi Hillel.

  22. David says

    Sep 19, 2015 at 3:57 am

I think that the problem in contemporary society is that religion is seen as permanent rather than progressive. You can’t apply a lot of the past social religious laws to current day society whether Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist or other to present day society thus the rejection of religion in many societies. The spiritual laws such as to be loving, just, kind etc are eternal and never die. An example is the caste system in India is opposed to human rights etc.

However, all religions have provided, in their Holy Texts for a renewal of their Faith and its laws in the future. Christ said He would bring the Kingdom of God on earth. Muslims await the Great Announcement and the return of Christ, Buddhists await the Buddha of universal fellowship. Hindus, the return of Krishna and so on indicating their revelations were only for their time and that a renewal would occur when a restatement of religious truth was required. That time is now. The world and its leaders are in a state of confusion without clarity on many issues which did not plague previous civilisations.

People are divided and polarised between the modern thinkers and traditionalist and this is causing conflict and wars. Baha’u’llah said:

What “oppression” is more grievous than that a soul seeking the truth, and wishing to attain unto the knowledge of God, should know not where to go for it and from whom to seek it? For opinions have sorely differed, and the ways unto the attainment of God have multiplied.

Now we have Baha’u’llah Who claimed to be the One Promised by all faiths for this age saying that….

Every age hath its own problem, and every soul its particular aspiration. The remedy the world needeth in its present-day afflictions can never be the same as that which a subsequent age may require. Be anxiously concerned with the needs of the age ye live in, and center your deliberations on its exigencies and requirements.

    And the solution:

“That which the Lord hath ordained as the sovereign remedy and mightiest instrument for the healing of all the world is the union of all its peoples in one universal Cause, one common Faith

Robert, I am so disappointed . . . no where in “Blogging the Qur’an” have I read that the abrogated verses are the Old Testament and the abrogating verses are the New Testament . . . or vice versa . . . or whatever it was that self-proclaimed Islam reformer Sheikh Muhamed Abu Timex conjured up in his desperate, rambling, unintelligible attempt to deceive the viewers. Guess that means you have to start updating all your updates of those 114 suras with a simple footnote that distinguishes the Old Testament Qur’an from the New Testament Qur’an. This also would be a good time to thrust those expressly non-Islamic phrases such “vilest of creatures” or “until they feel themselves subdued” to the Qur’anic Tanakh. At the same time, be sure to highlight those treasured Qur’anic New Testament verses that confirm absolute equality between men and women, as well as those which deem Christians, Jews and Muslims as equals. That most certainly will prompt the world’s 50-plus, Muslim-majority nations to immediately discard their ancient practice of human rights violations. This also will relieve Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi from the heavy burden of having to kill his way across the Middle East, and he can return home to live peacefully with his wife, if she hasn’t heard of Kayla Mueller.

Incidentally, I noticed that Father Time failed to say “peace be upon him” when he mentioned the name of the Muslim exemplar. That, in itself, should be worth a couple of Islamic demerits.

Needless to say, Robert, your mastery of Islamic texts and doctrines is unsurpassed! On the other hand, should the United States ever seek to form an Olympic dolt team, be assured that the gold-medal winner will be Sheikh Muhamed. You cleaned his clock!

I finally got a chance to see the whole interview. Fascinating–Mohamed Elhassan Mohamed blatantly lies, saying that the earlier Meccan Suras somehow abrogate the later Medinan ones, which is clearly the reverse of how every Muslim–scholar and regular believer–understands it.

And Mr. Spencer ably points out that not only is this false, but that the Meccan verses are hardly universally peaceful, either.

As for the false references to the Old Testament, Spencer rightly notes that not only is it the case that none of the violence in the Old Testament is considered an open-ended commandment for all time, but that *no* Jew or Christian is oppressing or murdering people in the name of the Old Testament.

The most unintentionally hilarious bit is from Mohamed, where he claims re human rights in the West is as though “someone read the Qur’an”–not only is this utterly ludicrous–there is *nothing* in either the Meccan or Medinan verses enjoining equality–but also, if these are Islamic values, Mohamed doesn’t explain why it is that such human rights are respected nowhere in the Muslim world, now or at any time throughout history, but are being practiced by a bunch of ‘filthy Infidels’.

And describing the bloody chaos and violence erupting throughout so much of the Muslim world today as an “uprising against discrimination” could not be more perverse, since the end result of such uprisings is the Islamic State, where even the violent oppression of the region has been outstripped, and is now full-on enslavement and genocide.

The most ham-fisted bit of Taqiyya–which Spencer did not have time to challenge–was the claim that Islam enshrines treating all people equally since it lauds “anyone who believes in Allah and the last days and does good deeds”–without admitting that this *only* describes Muslims, and further that such “good deeds” in Islam include the waging of violent JIhad against the unbelievers.

Probably the creepiest assertion by this “Shaykh” is that everything Muhammed did was justified, and that he “used the sword as a surgeon uses a knife”–a line he found so profound that he used it twice.

Of course, the “Prophet” used the sword to rob caravans, wreck “revenge” on those who dared to leave Islam, demand booty and sex slaves, and to commit out-and-out genocide.

Since–as Spencer well notes–Muhammed is considered a model for all time, that means that such actions are still considered the ideal by his followers.

I am always impressed that Robert Spencer is such a fine debater, with such a wealth of knowledge at his fingertips.

It is clear that Mohamed Elhassan Mohamed–whomTthe American Muslim cited as an example of why Muslims should never debate the critics of Islam–has now moved on to other tactics.

He may be a laughably bad debater, but his “street theater JIhad” and plugging into fake Muslim grievance and the “politically correct” useful idiots who cluelessly support it, has been considerably more savvy and effective–if no less disgustingly cynical.

Spencer notes that at the time he debated the father in 2011, “The results were so bad for him that after the debate, The American Muslim [a Muslim publication] pleaded with Muslims not to debate me.”

Not only that, but when one goes back to the old Jihad Watch article first reporting this in 2011, one finds extended quotes from Muslim writer of that publication, Sheila Musaji that are quite telling: She’s not just content to claim that Mohamed Elhassan Mohamed won, or that Spencer lost — but she goes further to impugn the credentials of the former:

It is no surprise to see that Robert Spencer has just posted a video of a “debate” between himself and this fake Sheikh on the subject of Islam and human rights. His only lead in to the video is Here is my debate last night on ABN with Sheikh Mohamed El-Hassan of the Texas Islamic Center on the question, “Does Islam respect human rights?” The first half hour of the show is an interview with Walid Phares; the debate starts after that.

Like Terry Jones, Spencer has come up against the difficulty of finding any legitimate Muslim scholars to involve themselves with his publicity stunts, as the scholars and leadership in the American Muslim community are now only too aware of his modus operandi. And so he needs to attempt to get some mileage from pointless “debates” with uninformed Muslims who seem to also be only interested in publicity…

The bolded portions show that the Sheila Musaji, a Muslim activist-cum-“journalist” back in 2011 called Mohamed Elhassan Mohamed a “fake Sheikh” and an example of “uninformed Muslims who seem to also be only interested in publicity”.

If one looks up her name in Google searches specifying Jihad Watch, one finds a few other articles on her. This one is good, and has within it two more links to other articles Spencer reported about her.

    http://www.jihadwatch.org/2010/04/the-american-muslim-lies-about-me-again-retraction-requested

In one of them, Sheila Musaji in 2008 called Spencer an “Islamophobe” and Spencer replied to her attack:

    http://www.jihadwatch.org/2008/10/the-american-muslim-and-islamic-moderation

I wonder what Sheila Musaji is saying now about this clockmaker (or rather clockfaker) boy’s father, whom in 2011 she dismissed as a “fake Sheikh” and as an example of “uninformed Muslims who seem to also be only interested in publicity”…???

A more recent article by Sheila Musaji from 2013 (still long before the clock incident) helpfully provides a link to and quote from an older Washington Post article from 2011 at the time that Mohamed Elhassan Mohamed became involved in another jihad stunt — accepting the challenge of Pastor Terry Jones in Florida to defend the Koran in a mock “trial”. What’s interesting about that Washington Post article is that it so clearly impugns the character of Mohamed Elhassan Mohamed. Do we think they would be as honest in their reporting now, when it has become the concern of the entire mainstream media to polish the halo around his young son and hail him as the new Muslim Thomas Edison? I don’t think so either.

According to the Washington Post (April 6, 2011)

Elhassan, a native of the Sudan who is now an American citizen, likes to call himself a sheik. He wears a cleric’s flowing white robes and claims hundreds of followers throughout Egypt, Sudan and in the United States.

But he is unknown as a scholar or holy man in the state he has called home for two decades. Religious leaders in Texas say they have never heard of Elhassan, including the imam at the mosque where he worships. “This so-called leader, we have never heard of this person,” said Imam Zia ul Haque Sheikh, the head of the Islamic Center of Irving. “I believe the whole thing is made up.” Elhassan has only a handful of followers who chant with him on Saturdays and Sundays at a small prayer center, located in a strip mall, that he founded in 2001 for other Sufi Muslims — a sect that embraces mysticism and a personal relationship with God.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/muslim-at-koran-trial-says-he-didnt-know-the-holy-book-would-be-burned/2011/04/05/AFKNR3oC_story.html

Sheila Musaji provided another article (also from 2011), but it leads to a blog that has no “about” information and one wonders about the veracity of its claims (it doesn’t help that the article provides no links or citations for its claims):

Not Known — Nobody, it seems, knows this Mohamed Elhassan. Not even the imam at the mosque where he worships. Imam Zia ul Hawue Sheikh, who heads the Islamic Center of Irving said: “This so-called leader, we have never heard of this person. I believe the whole thing is made up.”

Rebuked — Mohamed Elhassan said that since the burning of the Holy Quran, people have questioned him about his participation at the mock trial. Mohamed Elhassan said: “There are some people who blame me, who say you don’t need to go there. You were in the place of the devil.” There are also other consequenes arising from his participation at the kangaroo court. On the religious front, some of his small group of followers have demanded that he cease to lead in prayer. And on the business front, many drivers have refused to drive taxis owned by his family.

Think About It — Was it wise for Mohamed Elhassan to agree to act as defense counsel for the Holy Quran simply because he wanted to bring his family to Florida’s Disney World? Can he call himself an imam? Mohamed Elhassan said he did not know that the Holy Quran would be desecrated by being burnt if found guilty. Shouldn’t he have enquired about the purpose and the outcome of the so-called trial for which he is acting as defense counsel for the Holy Quran? It is reported that Mohamed Elhassan is the only Muslim that Pastor Terry Jones and his followers could find to accept the role of defense counsel at the kangaroo court. If Mohamed Elhassan had been more circumspect, and declined the invitation, there may be no burning of the Holy Quran for lack of a defense counsel.
