Will the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops call Fr. Schall on the carpet and demand that he not speak this way? After all, the USCCB works actively and without any apparent sense of shame to silence and discredit those who tell the truth about the jihad threat and the root causes of Muslim persecution of Christians, and who know that the Pope is wrong about the Qur’an opposing violence. The U.S. Catholic bishops are the worthy sons and heirs of those who convicted Galileo of heresy.
“On Pope Francis and Church Integrity,” by Rev. James V. Schall, S.J., Crisis, September 10, 2015 (thanks to Ming):
…The oft-discussed issues of earth warming and whether the Qur’an advocates violence are open to diverse interpretations. Pope Francis maintains that earth warming is a dangerous fact, but insists the Qur’an does not advocate violence and war. Experts can be found who panic about earth warming; we can find Muslim scholars who cannot find violence in the Qur’an. So, we might say that the Pope’s positions are backed by scholarly opinions. The only trouble with this approach is that other scholars in both areas find evidence that the opposite views are more persuasive and valid. What disturbs people is not the Pope’s authority for his views but his seeming unawareness of opposing evidence.
In this light, several writers point to what they call the “Galileo” problem as the potential danger the Church can find itself in by backing what are in effect opinions about some facts. This “Galileo problem” was the result of the Church committing to a theory that proved to be dubious. At the time—400 years ago—the arguments against Galileo could and did make sense to many. To be in error on a matter of scientific opinion is, of course, not exactly heresy. It happens every day. Indeed, it is the nature of scientific method of testing and retesting. Likewise, to be wrong (or right) about earth warming is not a matter of faith.
But if the Church takes a position in the matters of, say, evolution, science, or economics that turns out, on further investigation, to be wrong or doubtful, it will seem untrustworthy also in areas over which it does claim competence. However tempting or popular to comment on, there are some things on which the Church should just avoid taking a stand. Let it be discussed freely until there really is an issue of faith involved and reasons to think so….

Wow! No wonder Islamic terrorism and violence have been normalized and internalized in Europe, the US and Australia. After every beheading, bombing, gang rape, riot, and other forms of destruction, people pick themselves up, dust off and move on with life. The value of life has been debased and diminished, and soon wil reach the level found in the Islamic cesspits of world. The nightmare has just begun with the gates opened to the filthy and traitorous and backward hordes. But Europe will no doubt adapt and ‘acclimatize’ and continue to lower its standards. You can bet on that.
Don McKellar says
Well now, hold on. These are the two pillars of Obama’s presidential policy! Every Obamaphile KNOWS that:
1) Global warming is man-made and can be averted by massive wealth transfer to “developing” countries like China and India and Russia and a dozen moslem countries. That’s what the Kyoto Accord and all this Al Gore “buy my carbon credits” sales job was all about. Never mind that China and India were behind the faked — er, fudged UN report on Global Warming — er, Climate Change. Obama believes it. It must be true.
2) Islam is the Religion of Peace. Islamic jihad can be stopped by appeasing moslems at every turn, providing billions in aid, make work projects, and shutting up all critics of Islam. Obama believes this. It must be true.
3) Global Warming/Climate Change/New Coke CAUSES Islamic jihad. Obama has said it and believes it. It must be true. The solution? See point #1.
Now if Obama believes it all, why wouldn’t the Pope? After all, he’s the most politically correct Pope of all time and is basking in his celebrity. I’m sure he and Obama are going to hang out and lament about how too many people in the world just don’t “get it” about Climate Change and how they’ve got Islam all wrong and that if only we’d all just commit to a massive wealth transfer and taxation to “fight” Climate Change, ISIS would lay down their arms, Al Qeda would disband, Hezbolah would evaporate, Hamas would be content, the Iranian mullahs would put an end to their nuclear bomb programme, and the mass slaughter in Africa would end! Just like that!
Ah, that Pope. He’s more aware of the reality of the world than you guys give him credit for! Ask Obama!
Peter Charles says
Your assessment is sadly too correct. The Pope is WAY out of his “depth” in these matters, and would serve the Catholic Church by keeping his mouth shut.

Huh, why? There have been times in human history where the average temperature was higher than nowadays – Greenland is not called Greenland because the Vikings who colonized it were being sarcastic.
The Pope’s authority is limited to Catholic doctrine, not global warming or islamic doctrine, so a case can be made to objecting the authority of his views on the basis that his authority as Pope is limited to Catholic doctrine. In fact, this is exactly the kind of thing wars were fought over – the Church overstepping its boundaries and trying to get its paws where they don’t belong. “Render unto Caesar”, etc.

To Angemon- Hello sir. Not bothering you. But I am responding to one part of your comment of 2:08 pm, Sept. 10, 2015. I actually read decades ago before anyone coined the term “global warming” that those Vikings were very smart and enterprising. The guy who “discovered” Greenland found it to be full of snow and ice! But he named it “Greenland” so his fellow Vikings yet to venture forth, would do so, in the high hopes that his discovery really was green, could support some farming, and therefore become a colony to settle. Kind of like the early Israelites, surrounded by the desert, calling their land one of “milk and honey”. Kind regards.
Angemon says
Like I said, Linde, they didn’t name it Greenland because they were being sarcastic 😀
We know from archaeological evidence that the first colonizers build farms and raised livestock. We also know that the climate changed in the centuries following colonization – the summers grew shorter and colder, and that showed on the design of their houses.

Not myself being Catholic, the dazzling persuasion I might otherwise have with a regional prelate is non-existent. But here is an idea for those who DO have the Bishop of Rome as their Large-And-In-Charge Mojo Wielder :
The following videos are mentioned by me on a frequent schedule — AND THEY ARE ESPECIALLY RELEVANT ON THIS SUBJECT : At David Wood’s blog (www dot answeringmuslims dot com) — “The Jihad Triangle” (5 minutes long) + “Three Stages of Jihad” (28 minutes long).
THERE ARE ALSO MORE DIRECT PATHS TO THEM IN YOUTUBE POSTINGS, saving “overworked” clergy from the labor of using David Wood’s blog search box. So maybe it would be better to use those.
If every Catholic reading this sent a gentle email to his or her priest or higher-up directing them to the two videos, with a plea for sharing among as many others as feasible, we could make a serious dent in the concrete of denial among hundreds of somewhat influential humans
( CYNICS WILL JUMP ON ME WITH A FEW ELOQUENT DERISIVE REMARKS NOW. GO AHEAD — TOTALLY UNDERSTANDABLE IN VIEW OF THE POPE’S OBSTINATE REALITY DENIAL. )
However, if you do take the time & energy for contact with clergy, a logical point to mention is the Pope’s impending U.S. visit in a couple of weeks. My guess is that just in terms of the excitement prelates are feeling, a heartfelt message from us about the slaughter of Christians by Muslims in the M.E. and Africa is bound to carry more weight..

Here is what I wrote at the WALK WITH THE POPE blog at Cardinalsblog.
I doubt if anyone read it at all, including the one who started the blog!!
As a catholic, while I whole heartedly walk with Pope Francis, I am heart broken at the plight of the multitudes of Christians that are victimised and slaughtered at the hands of the islamists & muslims of the middle east & world over, those that strictly follow the dictates of their religion ISLAM who mercilessly KILL our fellow christians and YET all the LEADERS of the WORLD, including our very own Pope Francis, has never had the COURAGE to OPENLY support or HELP these unfortunate VICTIMS of CHRISTIANITY. Why is it so hard for the POPE and our RELIGIOUS LEADERS to HONESTLY accept the FACT of the true teachings of islam, which calls for the DEATH or DHIMMITUDE of the Christians, Jews & other faiths, who are called NON BELIEVERS in ISLAM, & whose DEATH is dictated in the islamic quran??? Why does the POPE as every other world leader WHITE WASH and HIDE the truth of the barbaric teachings of islam, by CLAIMING falsely that islam is a religion of peace, WHEN CLEARLY AS PER THEIR OWN QURAN, IT IS NOT!! Why are we not standing with our SLAUGHTERED brotherin in Christianity, EXPOSING the REAL Killers of our Brotherin?? & instead IGNORING & COVERING the acts of the islamists, who are ACTING according to the DICTATES of the quoran??
Just as I have decided to whole heartedly WALK with the POPE, I sincerely hope that the POPE decides to WALK whole heartedly with the TEACHINGS of our Lord & Savior JESUS CHRIST, in protecting the SHEEP of the CHRIST, by exposing the EVIL that has befallen on our fellow Christian Brothers of the Middle East & world over, MAINLY at the hands of Islamists & muslims, just like JESUS was courageous enough to EXPOSE & CRITICIZE the PHARISEES & THEIR PHARISAIC YEAST that destroyed GOD’s real laws & teachings.
I Pray that GODS WILL BE DONE, & our POPE has the COURAGE to EXPRESS GODs WILL! without FEAR of LIFE or CRITICISM
It IS Time for Christians worldwide to realize that the teaching of the Lord Jesus was NOT JUST to TURN the other cheek!! We NEED TO REMEMBER his PHYSICAL ACTIONS at the TEMPLE against the money changers, & ACCORDINGLY react FORCEFULLY when the NEED ARISES!!

What disturbs people is not the Pope’s authority for his views but his seeming unawareness of opposing evidence.
If not unaware of opposing evidence, then sneeringly dismissive of it on its face. But wait, the true nature of Islam is knowable by looking at its self-definition, and mountains of evidence that Moslems not only do not deny, they reiterate it as justified.
So the pope raises hysteria about non-existent global warming, but is silent on global jihad. He’s just like most everyone else. He’s not a leader, he’s a follower.
As so-called Moslem refugees sweep over Europe en masse (almost all of them young men with nothing from which to run except poverty), we are set to enter our 19th year of non-global cooling.

In the education-driven culture based on deconstructionism. Reality is no longer a matter of facts, the truth is in the eye of the beholder. Such nonsense could only propagate from tenured professors and school teachers who can’t be fired. Now the truth is a matter of a selling transaction in this or that medium. And it would be too awful to to tell the true facts of how awful the Moslems actually are, despite the growing mountains of evidence against their creed and their behavior.
It’s call Fictive Reality, which gives Moslems a free ride. You’ll notice that as an invasive tide of them sweep over Europe, there is no discussion of sending them back. That would be too… hurtful. It would be, in a word, unmarketable. Sensitivities.

Foot in Mouth disease? I wonder. Liberation Theology probably. If it were Foot and Mouth disease, why wouldn’t we hear an opinion on Marxism. There are Marxists all over South America. Marxists mostly rule, there. Surely Pope Francis has an opinion on everything social, why not Marxism.
Big government and Marxism are closely aligned. Loving one would be loving the other. Now we have Marxist and Islamic alignment. Two peas in a pod, both evil. I do not understand how a Christian mind can love Marxism and give Islam a pass. Pope Francis delusional… maybe?
Look back 2000 years and you would find mostly poor people and a few wealthy people. Almost all of the wealthy people were of, by, and for the government. Political power and wealth were synonymous. The rest were workers, entrepreneurs, and managers, almost all struggling but some with more money than others. The roots of Christianity were with the poor. All were silently anti-government.
Today we see the Pope as pro big government power, government wealth, and government control.

A greater contrast between two Popes would be hard to find than that of the previous Pope, Benedict XVI, and the present Pope, Francis I. For the record, I think the previous Pope a great man, a true intellectual, one who properly grasped the menace to mankind which is the Islamic faith, and a man also of great courage. As for the current Pope, he is so dismal and in so many ways that were I a Catholic I would have to wonder what in the Hell God was up to.
spot on says
I agree. Pope Benedict XVI was as good as anyone can get. A true theologian and scholar. A good intellectual man by all measures, Pope Francis I is so far different from his predecessor that anyone would wonder, “why”.
The only half answer I have found is that Pope Francis I is from Argentina and may have been a Peronist of sorts. If not, he may have been heavily influenced by Peron.

It is sad to say that, unfortunately, the RCC has long history of “leading from behind” and tide up their hands with theories which eventually have been proven completely wrong. Call it resistance to slightest change, intellectual inertia. Hence that. “seeming unawareness of opposing evidence,” i.e. see no evil, hear no evil, and speak no evil aka. willful ignorance. I already noted once that this Pope should reread the masterpiece of Alessandro Manzoni’s (“The Betrothed”) to gain some inspiration and courage in taking stance on moral grounds, in defense of what is right, and opposition to what is wrong and evil.

“For centuries, blood has been needlessly shed because of the desire to segregate our faiths.” Francis could not be more wrong. The bloodshed is not to segregate but to eliminate.
All regular visitors to JihadWatch realize that Muhammad established Islam by force. Qur’an 8:39 is to fight until “religion is only for Allah” meaning that violence is justified merely by the unbelief of the opposition.
The Sura of the Sword (9) commands Muslims to violently subjugate Christians and Jews, because of their religious beliefs. 9:33 tells Muslims that Allah plans to make Islam “superior over all religions.”

What bothers me about Pope Francis is that he tends to use his learned psychology to put ultra serious situations aside (compartmentizing); perhaps he has an unwavering trust with our God* or he has the mentality of an ostrich, you know the ostrich syndrome…..”hide your head in the sand till danger blows away.”
My God how can he do that when women are being raped, murdered, kids getting ripped apart ….sadly perpetual serial mad minded human crimes going on!
“The Pope, as I read him, has a strategy. Basically, he does not want to deal with CONTROVERSIAL ISSUES, at least the traditional ones, until after people are back in the Church.”
What, is he waiting for the church pews to be filled before he starts his healing rites? If he fails to stop the ongoing Jihadist atrocity’s there will be no churches to congregate with his followers.
