Islamic State captures most territory in months, nears Aleppo

Time for Obama to tell us again about how they’re falling back and nearing defeat. Meanwhile, in real life no one is even fighting the Islamic State. The Russians are fighting other jihadis who are trying to topple Assad, and the Americans are restricting their activities to cosmetic airstrikes.

“ISIS captures most territory in months amid Russian strikes,” Associated Press, October 9, 2015:

BEIRUT — Islamic State militants captured a string of villages near Aleppo on Friday in a lightning attack that brought them closer to the prized city in northern Syria, despite a major increase in Russian airstrikes that Moscow insists are targeting the extremists.

The surprise advance that brought the ISIS group to within a few miles of Aleppo was the most significant in months, following what has largely been a summer of stalemate in the war against the extremists.

It comes amid a wave of intense Russian airstrikes that have targeted insurgents fighting to topple President Bashar Assad, and a ground offensive by the Syrian army in the country’s central region.

Moscow says it is targeting mainly Islamic State militants, but US officials and Syrian rebels have said the strikes have hit mainstream rebels for the most part and are aimed at shoring up Assad’s embattled government and troops. Many of the rebel groups hit by the Russian strikes are also at war with the ISIS group.

“Everyone who wants to fight the rebels says that they are coming to fight Daesh while in fact they want to fight the rebels,” said Bahaa al-Halaby, an activist based in the city of Aleppo, using an Arabic acronym for the group.

He said the Russians have not carried out attacks against ISIS in Aleppo, which is split between government forces and various insurgent groups. “They are trying to finish off the rebels,” he said.

Other activists wondered where the Americans were.

“Why didn’t America attack Daesh fighters during their attack?” asked Rami Abdurrahman, director of the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights….

    They were the original “moderates” we were arming from Libya.

    • Every single damn moslem you arm or train or give money to is like keeping a cobra as a pet and feeding it. It is never your friend and is only waiting to bite you. How many times must this lesson be relearned?

      • Somehow, this is lost on Col Ollie North, General Jack Keane, Col Ralph Peters, General Tom McInerney, Sen John McCain, General Bob Scales, Sen Lindsay Graham, Lt Col Bill Cowan and all the rest of them. The only one who has a clue is Col Allen. By my count that’s about an 00.035 batting avg, well below the Mendoza Line. Yet nobody gets sent down.

He’s trying as hard as he can, it’s just that the white people at State and in the CIA and Pentagon sabotage his efforts…

      Barack can at least point out that the Chinese J-15 warplanes means that America is there in spirit, given that the $25 billion design for the thing was stolen from us. That’s a victory for Prez Hussein, albeit not the best one.

        I say trash the “white people” and say everybody. Now if we made Obama a king or dictator(which may happen..Marshall law) then everything would be OK. Obama would be free to do his master plan. There would be peace and serenity for all. The people left alive would get 10 breaks a day, 5 for prayers to Mecca and 5 for praise to Obama. We also should follow N. Korea and start praising Obama with the title of “great and compassionate leader” Just think of all the jobs that would be created with all the statues, posters and don’t forget the thought police.
        It is people like us that are the sand in the gears of this utopian machine.
        Shame on us. We don’t like his **change** definition.

    • It may be time for Barack to return to the Faculty Lounge. True, he was a fake professor like he’s a fake at everything, but for the next 17 mos the chilling truth is that he’s not the fake president, he’s really in office, yeah he’s faking it from waking up until he goes to bed, all that pompous fakery is real.

  5. No matter how much land ISIS may be captured by their murderous violence of the ISIS villains it still stands that they in their jihad are both wicked and insane. That is wicked and insane too the extreme. So much that at they ,in character, may be found described in the Bible .Which reads “The hearts of men are full of evil and there in madness in their hearts while they live, and afterwards they join the dead.” Ecclesiastes 9:3. [N.I.V.] These callous characters who composes ISIS are evil they themselves have proven, many times over , by their own cruel, brutal vicious, malice-filled ,malicious and murderous actions. That the Muslim thugs of ISIS are mad [insane] is shown in that they are so deluded, unrealistic and irrational that they actually must believe in their absurd, far-fetched Islamic daydream of establishing a caliphate and then using it as a base to then conquer the whole world for Islam. How delusional, What folly, what evil, what madness !

  6. American Government doesn’t have time to look into Syrian Crisis. They are busy in importing Terror Jihadis to American Soil and see that they are settled so that they can organise Terror Strikes thereafter in America. Though it is Suicidal for America, they are Bent Upon acting according to the Whims of Islamic Trojan Horse Infiltrated in American Administration.

    • It is literally beyond belief that we’re gonna bring in these Moslem Syrians as refugees yet at the same time *not* bring in the actual refugees: the Christians and Yazidis. This is the final proof that something very foul is afoot among our ruling elites. The conspiracy theorists who say Prez Barack Hussein is a Moslem go up a notch in my book every week now. But I still cling to the notion that the guy is a narcissist too self-absorbed to believe in a God, whether Yahweh or Allah. I still insist he’s a fake Christian secular humanist, the emptiest of all vessels, the emptiest of empty suits.

        For all intensive purposes, he would conduct himself pretty much in the same way in either case — and serve to advance Islam. Except for one point: a fake Christian secular humanist empty suit would, when confronted with the question, simply say: “I am not a moslem.” Obama has never said that and never will. He only ever has said when asked if he is moslem: “I am a Christian.” Which a moslem practising taqiyya has no problem saying as the infamous Ground Zero Mosque developer revealed once in a video interview. But they can never repudiate Islam by simply lying and saying “I am not a moslem.” Not even with their fingers crossed behind their back. It would really be that easy to unmask Obama if he could be confronted just once in an interview or press conference.

        • Of course the grotesquely named Josh Earnest would say “He’s never said I am a Moslem” because he wouldn’t dignify such a question. President Obama is a man of dignity. To question his diginity is… racist.”

          In keeping with your statement, remember that when it became apparent as a candidate that he’s was gonna beat Hillary, Obama suddenly quit wearing the American flag lapel pin, which he’d worn every day prior to suddenly not wearing it without explanation.

        • I forgot all about that one, so I looked it up and noted this quote from a 2007 NBC news piece on him:

          “My attitude is that I’m less concerned about what you’re wearing on your lapel than what’s in your heart,” he told the campaign crowd Thursday. “You show your patriotism by how you treat your fellow Americans, especially those who serve. You show your patriotism by being true to our values and ideals. That’s what we have to lead with is our values and our ideals.”

          Well, he certainly has shown us all his values and ideals since then, hasn’t he? It would have been impossible to wear a simple American flag lapel pin while doing the things he’s done and saying the things he’s said — the visual irony would have been overwhelming.

      • Until you hear him declare – openly – and loudly – of his own free will — in a widely broadcast public forum – that is “IS NOT A MUSLIM!” — do not fall for anything else.   7. Truth is, Obama and Bush were right about hearts and minds, but not about the equation.

    Islam+democracy=sharia. This is why ISIS wins, it’s about hearts and minds.

    • Somebody shoulda told General Petraeus that prior to honing the Rules Of Engagement to optimize for winning Moslem hearts and minds, which resulted in thousands being put into wheelchairs for life.

  9. Any gain of territory by ISIS is bad news, as is any battlefield victory by ISIS.

    The Russians seem to be the only credible force acting against ISIS at the moment. The Syrian army does not inspire much confidence. I have no use for Hezbollah or Iran and would gladly see their forces and their capabilities degraded in battles with ISIS while seeing ISIS seriously weakened at the same time.

    Bottom line: what a complete and total FUBAR mess this has become and Obama’s foreign policy (or what passes for his foreign policy) has played a leading role in bringing this FUBAR situation about.

  10. Can anyone explain why the Russians are not bombing the Islamic State forces? Are they sparing Islamic State in the hope that the latter will war against Hezbollah? Is there any hope that the Chinese might bomb Islamic State? Are Chinese pilots flying the combat jets they sent to the Russian carriers?

      Assad supports Hezbollah, Ver Auger–and Russia supports Assad. So I see no reason that Russia would want to see anyone attack Hezbollah.

Could it be that lsil is just a distraction and that the major players like US, EU, UK, Russia,China,Iran etc are positioning themselves to attack Israel who we know has immense oil and gas fields that these governments want. If we read Revelations it tells us about about this coalition and how Israel will be attacked and how Jesus will come back to earth and kick their butts. Muslims are political puppets used to keep us focussed on them and not our world leaders, to keep it going they have brought in lslamaphobia which is a way to abolish free speech.

      Where to start? Firstly, Israel has no easily tapped oil and gas fields–let alone immense ones. The Levant is one of the few places in the Middle East that almost entirely lacks oil.

      And how often have we heard the idea the civilized West is somehow a threat, but that ravening Islam somehow is not?
