After all these years, all the billions spent, all the U.S. counter-terror money funneled to al-Qaeda and the Taliban, all the outrage over the killing of bin Laden, all the Pakistani duplicity, the Washington establishment is still hoping that the Pakistanis will come around. This is self-delusion on a massive scale.
“US still want Pak to expand counter-terrorism efforts,” AFP, October 26, 2015:
Monday, October 26, 2015 – Washington—United States State Department Spokesman Mark Toner in a press briefing on Friday said the US wants to see Pakistan’s efforts against terrorism expand.
“We want to see those efforts expand. But it’s such a complex dynamic,” Toner said. “You’ve got Afghanistan and the Taliban’s continued presence there on one side. You do have tensions with India, and those need to be addressed.”
After a meeting between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and US President Barack Obama last week, both sides agreed on Thursday to take effective action against all terrorist groups, including Lashkar-e-Taiba. According to a joint statement issued after the meeting, Pakistan also agreed to ensure that all Taliban groups, including the Haqqani Network, “are unable to operate from the soil of Pakistan”….

Westman says
Show us the money! And we’ll hide some other terrorist like Bin Laden while we “fight terror”. Duplicitous.
mortimer says
Can the Pak government be trusted after they built BIN LADEN’S HIDEOUT and then HID HIM for a number of years??
If the Pak government were serious about quenching the jihadists, they would close the madrassahs which are creating jihadists.
Lia Wissing says
The Washington establishment clearly has not done its historical reading. In the 1980s, Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq (then president of Pakistan) explained to president Reagan that it was no problem for Pakistan to sign the Geneva agreements & continue supplying weapons to the Afghan jihadis combatting the Soviet Union. The Pakistani president said, ‘We’ll just lie about it. That’s what we’ve been doing for eight years. Muslims have the right to lie in a good cause’. So, do not believe UCLA’s Abou El Fadl. And pity poor uninformed WaPo!
Angemon says
Indians, brace yourselves.
Beagle says
I would be happy if Pakistan merely stopped its terrorism efforts. But I suspect the Indians would be happier.
Daniel Triplett says
No Muslim can be trusted.
The only difference with the Pakis is that they’re Muslims with nukes. It’s just a matter of time before a devout Muslim PM, extortionist, buyer, robber, or thief wishing to please Allah gets his hands on the arsenal, then launches the Apocalypse.
We need to destroy the Pakistani nuke arsenal…yesterday.
If I’m President, I target the entire Paki nuke arsenal on Day One of “Operation Armageddon.” Along with Iran’s nuke sites and Raqqa, for starters.
If you all elect me POTUS, I promise you I’ll criminalize Islam Worldwide in my first five months.
Give me three months to form the Alliance, persuade Congress, and produce the Battle Order with the Joint Chiefs, then six weeks (max) to execute the Operation. Problem solved.
No one else will do it, but I’ll swear on a stack of Bibles I will.
I’m a college valedictorian, 47 year old USAF Officer/pilot, 6 year war vet, and a 757/767/747 Worldwide airline pilot. What Presidential qualifications does Ben Carson have that I don’t? Skin color is no longer relevant.
mortimer says
You’re talking. The criminalization of Islam is reasonable, since Islam contradicts all modern human rights codes. The Koran should be the subject of a court case that proves beyond a reasonable doubt that it is genocidal, misogynistic and supremacist hate literature.

To Daniel Triplett- I love your positive vibes. And I would definitely vote for you. I think the Pakistani prime minister met with Obama to be reassured that a few more billion $ coming his way in the guise of “fighting terror” will permit him to buy some expensive real estate on the shores of Lake Constance, shared by Switzerland/Germany/Austria, as well as the stash to open a secret Swiss bank account. Stay well Daniel.
Daniel Triplett says
Thank you so much for your support Linde–my first voter!!
If Ben Carson can rise to that kind of power, I don’t see why I can’t.
But I think I should’ve gotten started earlier. I think I’ve missed the deadline for declaring candidacy for both POTUS and Congress. However, my agenda today is to make some calls and do the research to see if I could fill the necessary squares.
If I could get on the ballot and in the debate, I believe I could make a compelling case for election.
But if it’s too late for me in 2016, then I’ll go on a massive counter-jihad campaign in other ways: On the Internet, YouTube, personal visits to Capitol Hill, etc.
The important thing is we all stay in the fight. Civilization is at stake.
Thanks again for your support Linde. You’re a gem, and a true counter-jihadist war fighter!

“…This is self-delusion on a massive scale…”
The alliance with Pakistan is a relic of the cold war when the link was perceived as a counterbalance to India’s non-aligned, Soviet leaning diplomatic stance. Perhaps more than anything else the current US administration wishes to avoid China raising its geopolitical influence in the region.
One would think that a wiser more fruitful direction to take would be to accelerate the strengthening of relations with India, which has shown itself to be considerably more stable, predictable and most importantly is committed to securing a significant place within our expanding universal civilisation. Meanwhile a dialogue can be kept open to Pakistan while it decides what direction to take in the modern world.
Westman says
“..both sides agreed on Thursday to take effective action against all terrorist groups, including Lashkar-e-Taiba..”
On the surface it appears to help India but it doesn’t make logical sense for Pakistani interests.
This group stirs up trouble, has training camps in disputed Kashmir, and makes periodic attacks within India. India and Pakistan have been shaking their nuclear swords at each other for decades over Kashmir. Why would Pakistan want these bees to stop stinging India?
Will the US carry out or provide intelligence for a bombing campaign in Kashmir?
jewdog says
Trying to pin down Pakistan’s Sharif on terrorism is like trying to get a definition of sex from Bill Clinton. In the end, we’re screwed.
Raja says
Jewdog,
Good analogy with Bill Clinton’s sexcapades and Paki terrorcapades.!!!!!!
KrazyKafir says
Can you blame the Muslims for loathing the west? How can you possibly respect such an immense collection of dhimmi stooges?
jayell says
I thought that the generally accepted wisdom was that Pakistan is a ‘failed State’. Failed States aren’t equipped to ‘come round’ because they’re founded on failure, in this case, islam (how do you build anything like a proper democratic organisation based on totaliarian theocratic principles?). So why does the USA persist with its delusion?
Godwin says
Yes It cannot even control the periodical assassinations n regular suicide bombings in its own country. It cannot control all the Muslim fanatics within its own border. Ohbamama knows it but wants to give more of the US taxpayers’ money to help a brother Muslim country. What a traitor ?
duh_swami says
I thought Pakistan was fighting those terrorists as had as they can now/ Maybe with a little more American money they can try a little harder…
Alarmed Pig Farmer says
Living in a fake world entails having fake allies. Let’s not single out the Pakis for unfair criticizism, they are only doing their job as Moslems. We’ve also got the Turks, the Palestinian Authority, the Afghans, the Egyptians and now even the Iranians as partners in peace. Having fake allies entails being reliable and following through on the alliance to its conclusion, wherever that may lead, which they happily anticipate and for which we will inevitably pay.
somehistory says
Words: to give *reason* when pakis attack India so they can claim it has nothing to do with islam, while also claiming that there are *terrorists* in India. Technically, there are. They are moslims who want to take over India for islam.
More words: so the government can give money…everyone knows pakis don’t have any money for fighting terrorism…to the paki government in order for them to pretend they are fighting terrorism. Maybe they can pay the splc to set up an office over there to make a list of hate groups that are causing all of the problems for the oh-so-peaceful moslims.
Baucent says
“both sides agreed on Thursday to take effective action against all terrorist groups”,
That’s diplomatic talk meaning “don’t expect any changes”.
Pakistan is a completely unreliable partner of the West. But with nuclear weapons they have a bargaining chip other broken muslim nations lack. Have no doubt Sharif will tell the US every time “without that Aid money I can’t guarantee the security of those nukes”.
