Hurrah for Michael Finch the sagacious CEO of Horowitz Freedom Center. Let us be vict-ORS, rather than vict-IMS of the cultural Marxists and their ‘noble savages’ that they are exploiting to destroy freedom, democracy and Western civilization. We must fight with all our might. We shall never surrender.

The cause of enslavement is evil.

Muslims use civilians as shields — if the situation were reversed a jihadi would not hesitate to kill you and every infidel around you, and even a few Muslims that may be near by. The fact that western military refrains from killing in such situations is viewed by Muslims as a weakness and further emboldens them.

As I have stated before, if any Muslim is involved in a terror plot or incident the entire family and extended family should be deported, and never allowed back in. The mosque they attend should be investigated and if found supportive of terror in any way this mosque should be shut down and destroyed and all assets confiscated.

The only way to keep Muslims from being violent is to always have the bigger stick and not be afraid to use it.

Deported where if they all are born with in the country concerned. And why do people who have nothing to do with a crime apart from blood relation be punished for something they didn’t do. What a stupid and dangerous idea. Need real solutions not fantasy.

Does Mr. Finch think that he’s doing any good for the fight against the Religion of Brutality by raising his voice in favor of killing and bombing civilians? Why is he running to the misguided support of the nitwit Trump who insulted Pamela Geller and asked “Why is she drawing Muhammad? Can’t she find anything else to draw?” – But if he’s going to make a point of proclaiming the virtue of killing civilians, he ought to think for a minute about his examples. Hitler was not defeated by the bombing of German civilians. He was defeated when his armies were overwhelmed, and the bombing of German civilians contributed very little to that. Hitler would have been defeated sooner if better targets had been chosen. Bombing Dresden was not “fighting to win.”

Mr. Finch thinks that the bombing of Dresden and other bombings of civilians in WW2 are examples that support his argument – but in fact they are just the opposite. They did far less damage to Hitler’s military capacity than bombings against other targets could have done, so they didn’t save American or British lives; in fact they actually cost American lives by failing to shorten the war as much as missions against other targets could have done. Bombing German civilians merely because Hitler bombed civilians, no matter how little damage it did to Hitler’s military operations, was truly idiotic, and is not an example of “fighting to win” – it is only an example of fighting stupidly with ineffective cruelty. Find some other example, Mr. Finch.

Hello Theodoric —- I have not read the history of air strategy against Germany, so you might be absolutely right that massive destruction in Dresden was counterproductive, and that Mr. Finch therefore is speaking on a matter of which he knows very little.

I will leave others here to parachute in on their conclusions regarding urban carpet bombing in Germany and whether it was a mistake.

But he did NOT advocate such a tactic against ISIS; in the hypothetical situation he constructed — Hitler and his general staff together with several wives and Eva Braun. My arithmetic puts the non-combatant tally, at maximum, at a half dozen..

“Find some other example, Mr. Finch.”

      O.K. Theo.

War is not an exact science; sometimes you kill people and then realize later, after decades of reflection, that maybe it wasn’t necessary.

And certainly from a practical point of view, you want to maximize the damage on the enemy for your own forces risked or expended.

But still, the argument that demoralizing the enemy civilian workforce by killing them in massive numbers, has validity.

But certainly the end of the Japanese Empire is instructive and really the final word on this matter.

The Emperor of Japan was only persuaded to accept total surrender by the massive incineration of “innocent” Japanese families at Hiroshima and Nagasaki – nothing short of that magnitude of horror would have done it.

      • Theodoric says

        Dec 27, 2015 at 4:55 pm

It’s great to see that you put the word “innocent” in quotation marks, since of course, the Japanese women, children and infants were just as guilty of the actions of their repressive government as anyone else. And of course, your view that civilians may be properly killed in order to demoralize the enemy will win you lots of support from civilians all over the world, and especially in America, where Trump’s comment made such a big hit that Hillary Clinton must have been dancing all night.

You have never been in a war Theo, never thought like a warrior and don’t know the very first thing about it.

Yet here you are expounding on it some sagacious scholar, when really you are nothing but a fool.

A very wise man, who knew a lot about war, once said:

“War is cruelty. There is no use trying to reform it. The crueler it is, the sooner it will be over.” William Tecumseh Sherman

        • Theodoric says

          Dec 28, 2015 at 9:49 am

Davegreybeard offers no argument to anything I said, only ad hominems. I have studied world military history for over forty years. The idea that “The crueler war is, the sooner it will be over” or in other words the cruelest side will win the war has been proven false many times. If cruelty or killing civilians wins the war then Germany should have won World War Two – they were the top civilian killers.

Yeah, also there were no Japanese ships left…few weapons left…no food…the people produced the war materiel…every part of the Allied strategy ground down the Japanese war machine until it sputtered out. The only thing that didn’t sputter was the fanaticism.

We haven’t even begun to fight Islam IDEOLOGICALLY. If we did, Muslims could not remain in Islam…we would have to present every evil fact about Islam and make sure no one missed seeing about 30 or 40 propaganda films which would play on all channels all the time for up to ten years. Every stinking, rotten fact about Islamic depravity, amorality, misogyny and sadism would graphically shown. Children would have to be taught anti-Islamic material in schools until counterjihad sunk in for 20 or 30 years…yeah, I’m DREAMING.

And even then, a group of military officers tried to throw a coup and prevent the surrender message from being broadcast. They were hellbent on having a “final confrontation” with the Allies on Japanese ground, and they wanted that “final confrontation” to be so costly for the Allies that they would have no other choice than to negotiate peace on terms favorable to the Japanese – which would amount to them getting away with a slap on the wrist and pockets filled from plundering and raping.

Hitler wasn’t only defeated on the battlefield, he was also defeated by German cities, factories, oil refineries etc being razed to the ground. Bringing the war to the German citizen directly did open up a ‘second front’ which the Russians had wanted. Guns and their crews which were desperately needed on the Eastern front had to be used against Allied bombers. Bombing German cities did help to win the war, as did bombing Japanese cities. Those who were against the nuking of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were for a lengthening of the war which might have killed another 10 million soldiers and civilians.

The orthodox Muslim ISIS leaders (let’s call them generals, as a parallel to Michael Finch’s WW II analogy) know how hesitant Westerners are to approve targeting of fighters located close to non-combatants, so they deliberately set up such proximity whenever possible.

How many more months will go by — as we find out about ISIS holding regions and cities, advances into new parts of Iraq + Syria, “nations” in the Middle East irreversibly sliding into failed-states — before the policy of hesitancy regarding civilian casualties is reversed?

Leaving that 180 degree turn to Barry Hussein Soetoro is futile.

It will take a Republican president — and 2016’s crucial span lost — with, consequently, years added to sufficient crippling of ISIS for what Graeme Wood (in the Atlantic Monthly) thought was the way to end wannabe jihadist recruitment: stalemate in military progress.

    • SpiritOf1683 says

Thats true – this tactic only works because we not only allow it to work but stupid politically-correct lawyers and politicians dictate that it should work. If these terrorists hide behind ‘civilians’ we have to kill the terrorist, even if it means the civilian might well die. Very often, these civilians deliberately shield these terrorists, knowing that we’re reluctant to kill anyone wearing civilian clothes. We have got it into our heads that every enemy wears a military uniform, and stubbornly refuse to believe that this enemy dresses in civilian clothes.

Fight to win or surrender. That is why so crazy this “bombing” of ISIS for politics is. I think it is a crime to send any of our youth to Syria to ” contain” ISIS.

We must fight Islam to eradicate or just submit and say ALLAHU AKBAR.

    Good job Mike!

Yes, good job. The message we need to send to the West is that Islam and Western civilization mix like OIL AND WATER.

I’ve got the same dream Mort, all of it and more.

When we capture Jihadi’s we require that they spend 4 hrs. a day under firm Christian Proselytization . We’d have to work out the details with the Christians.

Then when we get a convert we use him/her in the propaganda war. We’ll be looking for good progress or it’s back to the cage.

You know, all this talk about killing them is distracting. Incarcerate the whole family and troll for converts.

This war will be won ideologically.
But the longer we wait to turn it around, the more costly it’s going to be, in both blood and treasure.

Dream on Mort, tell everyone you know.

“I have studied world military history for over forty years…”

Oh take your forty years and shove em where the sun don’t shine!

All that forty years of wasted effort proves, is that you are exceptionally dense, as is becoming more crystal clear by the moment.

The point is that whether or not you do something “cruel” to your mortal enemy, as you engage in life or death battle, has no place in a discussion of tactics.

You take the action that makes sense to achieve your objective.

If that happens to be “cruel,” fine.

And If it just so happens to meet the oh so sensitive and caring “Theo’s Gentleman’s Rules of War” well that’s fine too.

You don’t go out of you way to be cruel, but you don’t let it get in the way either.

    • Theodoric says

      Dec 28, 2015 at 9:00 pm

You said, “You take the action that makes sense to achieve your objective” Right. That was exactly the point of my comments. Bombing civilians without doing much damage to the enemy’s military capacity doesn’t achieve the objective of winning the war as well as bombing sensible military targets. That was the point of all my comments but instead of addressing this point all you ever do is try to insult me. I referred to INEFFECTIVE cruelty because INEFFECTIVE cruelty does not achieve the objective of winning the war. I never suggested any “Rule of War” in any of my comments but you make a dishonest effort to make it seem otherwise. Every single one of my comments was focused on the point that cruelty or killing civilians by itself does not win wars, and I never mentioned any “Rule of War” at all. You have never yet offered a proper argument to what I actually said, all you do is try to insult me while trying to pretend that I said something that I didn’t. Did I ever say no one should ever be cruel in war? No. Did I ever say a possible military action should be rejected if there was anything cruel about it? No. Did I ever indicate that I favored any such rule at all? No. You misrepresent what I said and then insult me as if I had said something that I never said. Maybe you should try addressing what I did say instead of insulting me for what I never said. But that would require you to do something more difficult than to type your dishonest insults.

        @Theodoric
“Bombing civilians without doing much damage to the enemy’s military capacity doesn’t achieve the objective of winning the war as well as bombing sensible military targets.”

This isn’t an established fact Theo, it’s merely your fantasy based assumption. Because the world would be so much better (in your mind) if it were true.

You and your buddies in the faculty lounge could then demonize all the “old dead white generals” while simultaneously demonstrating to the world how infinitely much more wise and “humanist” you are. In short a much better human being than those “old dead white generals” and certainly someone in tune with “social justice” who should lead our brave new world.

It is exactly the same type of “thinking” that produced “multiculturalism,” that is not really thinking at all, but believing in something based on fantasy.

In fact, all the evidence, from all the commentary of the men who were actually there and fought those wars, points in the exact opposite direction that you suggest. I have given you two examples while you have provided none to support your position.

        Here is another:

“If you kill enough of them, they stop fighting.”
        General Curtis Lemay

It’s not that you’re ignorant Theo, it’s just you know so much that isn’t so.

        • Theodoric says

          Dec 29, 2015 at 7:18 am

Once again you resort to misrepresenting my comments and pretending I said things that I never said rather than responding to anything I did say. I never referred to any “old dead white generals” or said anything that “demonized” anybody. I have never frequented any “faculty lounge” and I don’t have any buddies in any faculty lounge. I never argued that Dresden should not have been bombed out of considerations of “humanism” or “social justice” but because there were better targets that should been preferred in order to win the war sooner, and that therefore bombing Dresden was not an example of “fighting to win” as Finch thinks. What in hell does the opinion that bombing Dresden was an ineffective military tactic have to do with multiculturalism? Absolutely nothing, and I never said anything in favor of multiculturalism. Just another demonstration of dishonest debate tactics on your part. Once again, Germany was the top civilian killer in WW2 and Germany lost. I have not said a single thing that “isn’t so.” The champion at saying things that aren’t so is Michael Finch, who claims we would have lost the war if we hadn’t fire-bombed Dresden and other cities. Pure rubbish. Germany was not defeated by bombing or killing civilians and neither was Japan.

  9. Davegreybeard says

    Dec 29, 2015 at 3:50 pm

You have spent 40 years shoving your head so far up your ass, that it is really doubtful that it can be extracted.

You and people who “think” like you are a major reason our country is in its present peril. You and your ilk have gnawed away at the ideals and cultural foundations of our country and so weakened it, that we are in real danger of being defeated and enslaved by barbarians.

But as a man who has slogged through the Quran, persevered through the labyrinth of the “Sirat Rasul Allah” and trapped, pinned down and vivisected the demons of the Hadith, I will attempt the surgery – if for no other reason than to clarify my thoughts and provide some insight to wiser souls who may be reading this.

One of the symptoms of having your head up your ass is a complete inability and REFUSAL to recognize the blazingly obvious.

That blazingly obvious point, to anyone with a shred of common sense is that an enemy’s WILL TO FIGHT must be destroyed. This is separate and apart from destroying his MEANS AND ABILITY TO FIGHT.

An enemy’s MEANS AND ABILITY TO FIGHT can be removed by destroying his military equipment, factories, and military personnel. Which you suggest is the only legitimate target.

The very first example that was provided to you (and I would argue, best) was the atom bombs dropped on Japan. As Mort helpfully pointed out, Japan’s military capability had been destroyed; they had been beaten down to the point where they no longer had any real capacity to wage war.

But Japan’s WILL TO FIGHT was still very much intact and America was faced with the prospect of sacrificing ONE MILLION OF ITS YOUNG FIGHTING MEN to win the war. This does not include the SEVERAL MILLION JAPANESE who would be slaughtered in the process of the invasion.

So, faced with this reality, President Truman decided to drop the atom bombs on Japan. A few hundred thousand Japanese civilians were incinerated to save millions. This action made sense and was universally approved of at the time. In his surrender speech the Emperor Hirohito confirms this:

“Moreover, the enemy has begun to employ a new and most cruel bomb, the power of which to do damage is, indeed, incalculable, taking the toll of many innocent lives. Should we continue to fight, it would not only result in an ultimate collapse and obliteration of the Japanese nation, but also it would lead to the total extinction of human civilization.
Such being the case, how are we to save the millions of our subjects, nor to atone ourselves before the hallowed spirits of our imperial ancestors? This is the reason why we have ordered the acceptance of the provisions of the joint declaration of the powers.”

Which hammers home the previously stated truism of General LeMay
“If you kill enough of them, they stop fighting.”

We had finally killed enough of them.

So why is it that you and people of your ilk pretend that this is not the case?

    In short, politics.

During the Viet Nam war, the Left scoured the history of our country, looking for weapons to use against their political enemies. Anything that could possibly cast America in a bad light was seized upon, manipulated and twisted to advance the narrative that America was inherently “bad” that her ideals and institutions were “flawed” her leaders “corrupt” and “evil.” Naturally, all this needed to be changed and replaced by “MULTICULTURALISM!” “SOCIAL JUSTICE!” “HOPE AND CHANGE!”

Look at you, coming here and trying to advance the fiction that somehow “bombing civilians was not necessary to win WWll” when it is obvious to everyone with common sense, and a minimal understanding of history, that it was an ESSENTIAL part of winning the war.

Why do you do this? Because in your study of “world military history for over forty years” you were carefully taught that America “wasn’t always right” and had done some very brutal things in war and in fact should be ashamed of some things. This sense of “shame” for America was carefully cultivated and nurtured by those who taught you. Such “shaming” of America over things like the firebombing of Tokyo and dropping the atom bombs, is going on full speed today – has been for forty years. And it weakens us and hampers our ability to think clearly and deal with a mortal enemy in a sensible way.

All of this is part of the Left’s “War on America.” They seek to destroy every American ideal, every decent American institution, so that THEN they can step in and be in charge. To the extent that the Islamists also want to destroy America, they are allies – at least until the Islamists cut off their foolish heads.

So here you are Theo, part of the enemy camp without even realizing it.
