Back in the early Fall of 2006, I was attending a university in my home state. Over three years before that, I had left Islam, and I wanted to do my little part to prevent others from being deceived by Muslims and their attempts at whitewashing what Islam actually taught. Facebook was very new to me, but I managed to find the head or representative of the Muslim Student Association at my school. I sent her a friendly message and asked if she might be interested in participating in a debate on campus about Islam. After finishing the message, I forgot it because of classes.
Approximately two or three days later, I was in my dorm room when I heard a knock at the door. I opened the door and was surprised to see a campus police officer standing there. I greeted him and he asked if I was me. Then he asked if I had sent a message to the Muslim woman in question. I confirmed that I had indeed done so, and asked what the problem was. The officer stated that the woman took my email merely asking if she would like to participate in a campus debate on Islam as a threat and contacted campus police. I explained to him that no threats of any kind were made, just a polite request. The officer said that due to the complaint, he would need to search my room for weapons. I agreed to allow this, but made it clear that it was wrong to make a complaint against me when no threats had been made. He did not respond, but did a quick look in the room and found nothing, of course. He thanked me for my cooperation and departed.
Years later, that incident had all but left my mind until I read Robert Spencer’s Jihad Watch post today about the attempt by the Muslim Student Association to silence free speech by trying to organize a zero tolerance policy on speech they deem “Islamophobic.” I regret not making my own complaint to the university at that time, about that woman’s false claim of feeling threatened. I never replied to the woman or to anyone else, out of fear of being kicked out of school.
Knowing what I know now, however, I should have not remained silent. Stealth Jihad is at work in our country and in other Western countries. Part of that jihad is silencing dissent through claims of “Islamophobia,” “hate speech” and other false allegations against those who merely want to show the world what Islam really teaches. At my university, I was silenced, albeit not permanently, by tactics like these. The West must stand for the freedoms it claims to cherish so much. If hate speech is truly what the authorities want to address, they can find a Quran and collections of Hadith online. Our generous spirit of trying to look out for others can be our undoing if we don’t differentiate between the truly needy and those who actively seek the downfall of our civilization, as the Muslim Brotherhood says about its Stealth Jihad: it is “a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and ‘sabotaging’ its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God’s religion is made victorious over all other religions.”

pdxnag says
“Free speech” means nothing if not a right to criticize government and government officials. Islam marries “religion” and government into one and thus necessarily opens the door to the most vigorous of protected criticism of all things Islam and those who advance it.
Suppression of criticism of government can be described as the very definition of tyranny, and pious Muslims applying Islam demand exclusive political power.
Neil Jennison says
Free speech means nothing if one is not allowed to criticise absolutely anything.
Government, religions, political parties……anything.

Why would police investigate a complaint where no threat was uttered?
I admire Noor al-Amriki (an obvious pseudonym meaning ‘Light of America’…that ‘light’ is the one carried by the Statue of Liberty!)
HOWEVER! … we have legal rights that may not be violated: the right not to be arbitrarily arrested, the right not to be searched without a warrant and the right of due process.
A threat complaint must have some substance to convince a judge to issue a search warrant. There was no substance to the complaint against an invitation to a formal, verbal, supervised debate.
The Muslim woman tried to apply Sharia law to an American context. Sorry. Islam is not the official, established religion of the United States and has no bearing on the freedom of speech. A debate about the truth or falsity of Islam will never happen in an Islamic country. Someone will murder the person who suggests such a debate! She obviously feels that her hurt feelings are the cause for a complaint.
But how is asking one to debate even remotely a ‘threat’ or ‘hatred’?
The joke on her is that she managed to say ‘If you say Islam isn’t true, we have no ability to defend it, so we will bring a frivolous law suit to punish any fair criticism of Islam.’
She managed to make Muslims look intolerant and unintellectual. She should be forced to pay damages.
Noor says
Very true, but I did not understand the Constitution as I do now concerning the 4th Amendment. Obviously, without probable cause, officers will see if you consent to said search even if they make it sound like you have no choice. At the time I did not realize I even had to consent. Like most Americans, I just assumed if the police were there I had to let them in. However, I need to research how this applies to dorm rooms.
Don McKellar says
Campus police it says in the story, so you were not in your own home but on the University’s campus. Their property — they are the University’s security guards. So they may indeed have the right to search. But I don’t know for sure.
Thanks for this excellent little story, Noor! Thanks for that! This is the kind of stuff that without sites like Jihad Watch and a few others, we’d never hear about. How could we? “Stealth Jihad is at work in our country and in other Western countries.” It most certainly is and is just as dangerous to freedom and liberty as the murdering terrorists are — perhaps more so. It is the elephant in the room that politicians and public officials are too scared to talk about.
Mike says
I don’t know about the US. I Canada they wouldn’t have the right even in a campus dorm, though they could “ask” to in a somewhat misleading way, which it what it seems they did in this case as well.
Robert says
Here is scenario for you. suppose I am camping in a National Park and the park rangers want to come into my motor-home and “inspect” it. Only with my permission can they do that. I believe courts have decided that wherever you live is your domicile so is protected by the Fourth Amendment. Same applies to apartments. Understand now?

Thank You for this story Noor. You have more courage than you probably realize. The posting of your story here, coincidentally is perfect timing for a point I was quite recently trying to make someone regarding individuals who were born in Muslim families but don’t know much about Islamic doctrine and its teachings.
Again, thank you for this story, your courage and much appreciated inspiration.

Your Dorm Room was your ‘home’ – whether it was rented or free. Police needed a search warrant if you had denied the search. An episode in Law and Order showed that police needed warrant to search the property of a homeless men, though, he was leaving in an illegal tent in a government park.

Close. The Light of America would be Noor al-Amrikati, I think. Noor al-Amriki just means “Noor, the American”.
It’s one of those Semitic construct-state thingies. Idafa.
Noor says
The Noor name was chosen by me for my interview on Fox. Robert Spencer added the latter name when I wrote an article for the Jihad Watch site. It just means Noor (light) the American.
Greyhound Fancier says
Bless you, Noor, and keep up the good work! Thank you for being willing to share your experiences with Fox News and with us.
Carolyne says
I believe that “Noor” does indeed mean “Light.” When the King of Jordan married Lisa Hallaby, he changed her name to “Noor Al-Abdullah,” which meant, as explained at the time, “Light of Abdullah,.” At any rate, Noor el-Amrikati, is a shining light of America.
I also believe that the authorities needed a search warrant and would have had to convince a judge that the email was a threat in order to obtain one, absent Noor’s consent.

It is legal in the United States to criticize any religion. The US has no establishment of an ‘official’ religion. The court (and the police) have no way to decide what ‘blasphemy’ is.
It is legal the United States to criticize Islam.

Thank you pdxnag and mortimer for your very relevant comments, and thank you to Noor al-Amriki for a very revealing article. I would call the person who called the police to the author’s dorm “paranoid”. On another website, I believe it was Pamela Geller AFDI, I was quoting Jesus’ words about how he and God Almighty were One and inter-related and citing chapter and verse in the New Testament where anyone could find them. I wrote this for a man who said “Show me where Jesus said he is God, to worship him, and I will accept Christianity.” So I took his challenge. Another man, a Muslim, answered my quotes by stating “God has no blood.” I thought it very sad how Muslims limit the true God and deny His humanity, while always stating that their God is so great and powerful. Can anyone explain how they say “Allahu Akbar” but choose not to acknowledge that all powerful God can become a baby in a virgin’s womb? Islamic doctrine just doesn’t make sense to me.

To be fair, Christian doctrine doesn’t make much sense to me, either.
No more or less than Hindu, Scientology or dozens of others.
Buddhism however is a level above these….
Atheist7 says
JimJfox, Islam seem more logical to me than Christianity. Islam is simpler – you had better do what the big guy says and emulate Mohammad in every way. Christianity has that confusing problem of the trinity. Also – how could one possibly get to heaven without a horse? Given the assumption that here is an afterlife controlled by some sort of God, both Islam and Christianity make sense. But these two religions are simply not in the same class as Scientology. One could only believe in Scientology if you were an actor – living in a fantasy world – and challenged by reality.
Noor says
I don’t debate in here, but your comments show a deep ignorance of both Islam and Christianity.

Sorry Noor, I will have to consider that my feeble attempt at humor was a total failure.

Ted Tyler says
For Islam to succeed in America, it is important for the Muslim to pretend that the true Islam is the Islam of Mecca and not the Islam of Medina. This creates the myth that Islam is the Religion of Peace – as many of our reality-challenged politicians have claimed. In many of the Muslim majority countries, dissent and free speech is significantly silenced by physical means. However, in countries where the Muslims are a minority, physical suppression of free thought cannot be done yet – so other tactics must be used:
1. Propagate the myth that Islam is a “Religion of Peace”. Since most Americans have read essentially nothing of the Koran or their own Bible, this should be an easy one to slip by them.
2. Label any criticism of Islam as “hate speech”. This should slow down most free thinkers and perhaps even stop them outright. We all know that hate speech is a very bad thing and anyone who utters hate speech must be a racist. And we know that racists are bad. So if you criticize Islam you must be a hateful racist.
3. Push “Islamophobia” as much as you can. Americans are conditioned to think that Islamophobia is a bad thing and that all Islamophobes are hateful, racist, evil people. We need to drive this myth home.
I’m new to this site. Are there any “Charles Martel Societies” springing up on any of the college campuses to propagate a more balanced view of Islam?
mortimer says
The Islam of Medina abrogates the Islam of Mecca. Every Muslim knows that.
Islam is incompatible with modernity. Islam and Western civilization are as irreconcilable as oil and water.
Ted Tyler says
Mortimer, there may be a significant percentage of Muslims that actually do not know that the later verses of the Koran take precedence over the earlier verses. I am guessing that many Muslims are like most Christians in that they do not read their own holy books and instead think what their religious leaders tell them to think. I was talking with a very religious Catholic woman who was horrified to think that God would not approve of homosexuality. She said: “My God is a God of Peace, Love and Forgiveness”. I referred her to the first 5 book of the Old Testament to get a flavor as to how forgiving and loving God actually is. I also assume that it is the “radicalized” Muslim that does read the Koran, memorizes it, understands its message, and then tries to carry out that message.
Frans G says
You are probably right that there are some Christians like that. But come on, what part of Christians do you think do not know of the difference between Old and New Testament?
2% ?
Noor says
Some may not know this, some know it but lie about it. Ultimately, it is in the Quran and Hadith plain as day. Radical has nothing to do with it. It is just a Muslim who follows Islam as Muhammad intended, commanded, and led by his example.

Today’s youth generally has little or no ability of critical thought, because of the absence of critical thought in schools and the emphasis on radical multiculturalism and radical universalism (all religions and cultures are the same).
Today’s youth generally believe that having a strong difference of opinion is ILLEGAL, so brainwashed are they by cultural Marxism’s NEWSPEAK! They immediately call the police if someone engages in controversy in public.
I know of a man presently in JAIL because he DISAGREED with Muslims in public. He has committed no crime. Judges are not defending freedom. They are confused about the issues of free expression.
Judges are creating a law based on ‘hurt feelings’ devoid of any need to demonstrate real or apprehended harm. How do you assess ‘hurt feelings’???
Feelings are entirely subjective.

One of the primary reasons our fellow citizens remain so ignorant about Islam is the media and our politicians.
Politicians will continue to spew the idiotic line “radical Islamic terrorism” until the media makes it clear there’s no such thing.
But the media (print, television, radio, etc.,) is under no pressure to tell the truth, and continues to parrot that “radical/radicalized/extremist/perversion of Islam BS because those who have an audience with them don’t stop them in their tracks by simply telling them the truth. I can’t think of a time when television hosts have ever been challenged to actually define “radical” Islam, or to explain how it differs from the Islam of Qur’an and Sunnah, how “extremists” are perverting Islam, or even what they think a Muslim extremist is (wouldn’t it be an eye opener to see the blank expressions on their faces at such a request)..
Bill O’Reilly thinks that “good” Muslims reject “the jihad”.
He has that completely backward, of course, but persists.
Each time I’ve seen Noor cite Qur’an and Sunnah to Megyn Kelly, she looks like she might even understand what he’s talking about.
And then goes right back into “radical Islam” mode with the next guest.
Until a knowledgeable person tells people like Ms. Kelly the truth, the American public will remain largely uninformed and gullible.
Here’s a starting point:
______________,amputating a thief’s hand is compliance with Qur’an, not an act of “radical” Islam.
Host’s name here
That may not sink in with her, but some percentage of her audience will get the message.
Unfortunately, too many knowledgeable guests are too worried that they won’t be invited back if they just tell the truth.
How long must the public endure assertions that the San Bernardino Muslims wee “radicalized”?
Dave J says
Perhaps an invitation to seriously and peacefully debate various propositions should be delivered daily to every Muslim student and Islamic lobby group. Doubtless they would refuse to participate given their intellectual weakness and record of coming across very poorly in debates, but it would underline the fact that in America we value both free speech and the contest of ideas.
An invitation to a fair and public debate cannot be construed as a threat, except by Muslims. Calling the police or rioting in the streets will just demonstrate their whiny, dishonest nature and their true goal – to silence any possible criticism.
KnowThyEnemy says
“Doubtless they would refuse to participate given their intellectual weakness…..”
That is exactly what they would do, and so it is smarter to challenge them for a response rather than inviting for debates! A challenge is something that is very hard to refuse (because if you do, you are a loser right there). Also, since a challenge is more sensationalist, it attracts a lot more audience than a debate, and attracting as many people as possible is exactly what we want!
I once posted a challenge on my Google page (link below) and asked Muslims to respond! I contacted them through youtube comments, maybe 15 of them; others showed up because they read my comments challenging those 15 people. The challenge was not very well prepared and there were many things that I could do better, but the Muslims lost the challenge anyway 🙂
But more importantly, my viewership went from under 1000 to over 11000 views within a few months. Note that these were random visitors from youtube which means that they were from all walks of life (Muslims, non-Muslims, liberals, conservatives, men, women, old, young, semi-educated, highly educated, etc) and from all over the world. In other words, it had a wide “reach”. This shows the power of issuing challenges, hence my suggestion! (Note: For security reasons never reveal your identity when issuing such challenges.)
And as promised, here is the link (Notice that there are 400+ comments):

Mohamedans have been trying to get “hate speech” resolutions through the UN for years, for much the same reason, silencing criticism of Mohamedism.
Criticism is considered “slander”, therefore can not be allowed.
As far as Mohamedans are concerned, there can be not debate, discussion, decent.
Andrew says
Exactly, it’s completely ridiculous how both lefties and muslims think. Telling the truth in reality can never be “slander”. As though I make a statement saying “cobras have dangerous venom in their mouths” and then some lunatic tree hugger comes after me saying I’m slandering the cobra.
A statement of fact is a statement of fact. We need to clearly define “Incitement/hate speech” – which to me would firstly need to be not accurate, targeting a group or person falsely(slander), excetera.
The koran and Hadith are freakin loaded with Hate Speech which actually does incite Muslims to commit heinous crimes to themselves and others. Of course that is irrelevant to the twisted left and their allies.
Technically, in a perfect world; All of mohameds teachings should be banned as hate speech and incitement to hatred; that includes the queeran and the hateith. No doubt this would mean war, however the war has already been declared by islam. So to correct myself this would mean the west acknowledging that there are people out their who have declared war on the entire world – and reacting accordingly.
The lefties can never acknowledge that sometimes hate is the appropriate response to certain truths.

“…I had left Islam,” asserts NOOR AL-AMRIKI, and he/she states, “I wanted to do my little part to prevent others from being deceived by Muslims and their attempts at whitewashing what Islam actually taught.”
You, my friend, state our “Wise men” on the Left, on the Right, are a problem. Because, You, Noor al-al-Amriki, and others like you, feed the Islamaphobia hungry lion.
You, with your “little part” played in attempting to inform the world of the true teachings of Islam, you make Islam look bad, and so too, the same to all who follow that belief system.
Therefore, Noor, we—our wise men and women, on the Left, on the Right—we stand with the “Moderate,” who loves Islam, respects it, defends it, and we (those noted above) do also.
Therefore, Noor al-Amiriki, we—BHO and Company, Paul Ryan and Company, Jeb Bush and Company, etc…– stand against you. United with our “Moderate Muslims,” we stand united against you. We disdain your efforts.
How dare you attempt to cast a darkened shadow on our Good Devout Muslims!
You, Noor al-Amiriki, and others like you are why we are losing this war—Can you not get it into your thick head, the only way we win this war is by empowering our Muslim allies, assisting them, embracing them; we do not do that by bashing the faith system they live by.
Therefore as stated, we stand against you united as one with our “American Muslims,” defending, protecting, honoring the honor or the “Prophet of Islam,” and the din he brought.
Thus state, by their words and actions, our “wise” men and women, from the Right, from the Left.

Let them squirm. If they keep spinning their lies, then challenge them to write a group letter to the Grand Muftis of Al-Azhar, Mecca, Medina, etc to “modernize” that long-held tenet of their religion. In all fairness, replace “islam” with “feminism”, “muslim woman” with “feminist”, and it’s something that could very well have happened yesterday in any college in the US, UK, or Sweden, to name a few “progressive” and “enlightened” nations. Not that the muslima in question wasn’t engaging in stealth jihad, just pointing out that there’s a climate that sacrifices freedom of speech and open discussion of ideas as not to “offend” anyone, and islam is neither its cause nor the only authoritarian ideology proliferating in it. There’s a “correct” set of ideas, and anyone deviating from it – even if to say that not everyone in the world shares that “correct” set of ideas – is deemed to be harassed, hounded, derided and overall treated as subhuman garbage with no rights whatsoever.
