Everyone is having a good laugh over this one today, with “silly old woman” stories going out internationally. Much as I hate to dissent from the mainstream view, Brown Deer Police Chief Michael A. Kass’ response to this was unconscionable. Apparently all the Brown Deer Police did was ask her to call back if she heard it again. Did they do even a routine check to find out who lived next door?
Meanwhile, numerous news stories have provided the location of the complaint, thereby revealing where this woman lives and possibly exposing her to danger. Can Chief Kass stop chortling long enough about how silly she is to make sure that this woman is protected? She did the right thing, even if (as is likely), she misheard what was being chanted: the whole idea of “if you see something, say something” is for citizens to be vigilant. It is up to the police to determine if there is a serious reason for concern — if they bother to check.
Now we know that if we see something, we should say something, unless what we saw seems too silly for the local police chief, or it’s just a young Muslim boy bringing a clock that looks like a bomb to school. In other words, if you see something, don’t say anything, unless you want to expose yourself to public ridicule or charges of “Islamophobia.”
Chief Kass should apologize, and resign, forthwith.
“Police: Woman Chants ‘ISIS is good, ISIS is great’ During Sex,” by Justin Thompson-Gee, CBS 58, December 21, 2015:
An 82-year-old woman called Brown Deer Police Sunday night requesting police because she heard someone chanting, “ISIS is good, ISIS is great” while having sex….
Police advised the woman to call back if she heard the chanting again.
When asked about the incident, Brown Deer Police Chief Kass replied, “maybe taking see something, say something a little too far?”…

So now the neighbours know she called?
not good
concerned canadian says
do they discuss all crimes on facebook ?
this is wrong on so many levels
Adrian says
Exactly, concerned canadian. Does Brown Deer police chief Kass also publicly ridicule via Twitter all the Wisconsin idiot students screaming for “safe space”? Or would he ridicule any muslims falsely screaming Islamophobia, or any blacks falsely claiming hate crimes?

That post is now off twitter.

You are either “stupid” if you say something, or “a bigot” like Hillary is screaming at Trump. She is the McCarthy of today.
Champ says
True; and I can hear Hillary now screaming her famous line …”What difference does it make?!!!” …oh I hope and pray that this woman does NOT become our next president. After obama she would be a real kick-in-the-teeth. What America needs now is *real* Hope and Change.

Without an investigation, how does anyone know what actually happened?
It is wrong to insult a concerned person.
The police are encouraging people to remain silent because the government may insult you.
Shmooviyet says
This a-hole is crowing his ‘tolerance’ to the intolerant ones, and insulting an elderly citizen.
Would he also prefer she just keep quiet if she observes some ‘new people’ on the block working late-night in the garage?
What a relief to have such a concerned police chief in your town!
Mo says
Why is this police chief even addressing this on social media at all?! Is that proper protocol? Not only is he ridiculing a concerned citizen, but if there is something going on, now this old lady’s been compromised!
Unbelievable.
Paladin says
He seems more concerned with making snarky zingers on social media than he is in protecting his community. Even if this woman misheard or called 911 out of an overzealous abundance of caution, keep your smart a$$ comments to yourself, chief. You are a public servant.
Keith says
He is protecting HIS community, the community of muslims. I wonder when he converted?
St. Michael Defend Us says
Yes, perhaps he attends the mosque on Brown Deer Road:

Oh, but if the chanting occurred on or near police premises?
Bet they’d get the squad cars out!

From the view of a former cop, this is absolutely unethical. He is suppose to be a leader and an example to those who work under his command. If the chief behaves like this, just imagine what his staff is like. It’s one thing to privately have a good laugh about something like this if turned out to be nothing. But to ignore her and then laugh about it publicly??? Outrageous!
And why the hell was this call ignored? I can see where maybe a cop wouldn’t just roll up that night, but at least have someone interview the elderly lady and then look into the neighbors by doing some investigative work. And besides, while it seems corny that it was chanted, how does anyone know that she didn’t hear them say it? I’m embarrassed for the LE community.

Making a monkey out of a concerned citizen; very unprofessional, especially for someone as highly placed as a police chief. He should be fired, or disciplined at the very least.

I would think that one should follow the lead (never knew if true or not, but good) of a person in (I believe it was Mississippi).
The man called police (911) that someone (or two) people were trying to break into his home. The dispatcher suggested he hide in a closet, or under his bed, as the police were busy.
They could not be there in less then 20-30 minutes. The man replied, well then he would have to take his rifle and shoot them. He hung up. Within minutes the police were there- and arrested the person or people trying to break in.
The police asked the man if he had fired his rifle. He said that he didn’t have one. The police said, ” why did you say you would shoot them?’ He replied, ” why did your dispatcher say that you are busy, cannot be here for 20-30 minutes?”.
No clue what the police said; but had an arrest or two.
Should be done- whenever given such a remark by the cops.
Just my view

Right, because it’s “see something”, not “hear something”, right? Jackass.

There is an amusing but true story about how Britain’s best defense strategy against the V-1 flying bombs in WWII was correctly deduced for the RAF by an inmate of the Kent County (UK) Mental Hospital. Source: “The War in the Air: The Royal Air Force in WWII,” author (editor) Gavin Lyall. I am not certifiable despite retiring from 23 years in govt service, a fair proportion of it being spent in AT work. I can tell you I got the same general reaction from supervision when positing various things (events/scenarios) to them AFTER 9/11, even was accused of watching too many Bond films. This chortling, locker-room disparaging mentality is alive and well in law enforcement and, truth be told, when the next serious mass-casualty terror attack occurs in this country an investigation will show someone in the local PD/Sheriff’s Office blew it off with this approach. You listen to EVERYTHING and blow off NOTHING. Agree w/Mr. Spencer, time for the sheriff to step down and for an attitude adjustment in the Mayberry PD
