This humiliation will go over big among the “Death to America” crowd, and reinforce the Iranian mullahs’ claim that they have cowed and intimidated the United States. The Iranian nuclear deal only showed the Iranians that the Obama Administration was weak; now they are acting upon that knowledge.

Yes, your interpretation is correct, but show how damn primitive abhorrent these Cxnts are.

Isn’t there something in the Geneva Convention about parading captured personnel before cameras? Surely any reasonable person knows that an apology extracted by duress isn’t an apology’s backside.
William says
Geneva Convention? That’s only for white people.
It’s sarcasm here, yet it’s a belief that exists.

Thanks for the reminder.

Whats with the ‘towel’ on the head ,person (woman crew I would presume) second on left from the Captain?
jihad3tracker says
Here is a link to David French (in National Review) explaining that “towel”, and why it is a violation of the Geneva Convention: http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/429697/irans-propaganda-victory-one-illegal-image
EVERYONE HERE PLEASE GO TO THAT LINK AND READ THE ARTICLE. Then you will have a foretaste of how huge this vessel seizure and propaganda exploitation by Iran will eventually become in the presidential campaigns.
Shmooviyet says
Thank you for the link.
The line from Defense was nauseating… “we appreciate the timely way in which this situation was resolved.” Sounds straight from a how-to-get-along manual.
One can only hope ‘this situation’ will not be ignored to avoid embarrassing BHO and his admin, as would surely have been done in the past.

Those highly intelligent mullahs and El Supremo unintentionally turned our White House over to a Republican in the coming election. How did they do that? Here is the answer:
Before this incident and Iran’s subsequent attempt to humiliate the crew members for propaganda, American Democrats had largely forgotten about what a weakling Obama is when it comes to foreign policy.
Now, those Democrats again see clearly that IRAN HAS TOTAL CONTEMPT FOR THE HALF-BLACK president. Iran’s top dogs regard Obama as more deserving of slavery than freedom — and, in fact, if he were stripped of his office and tossed back a century in time he WOULD be in servitude for Islam.
And Obama will be poison for appearances at Hillary’s or Bernie’s rallies. If either one of them are tied to the president who refused to delay his State of the Union address long enough to tell Iran that it MUST NOT BOARD THE VESSELS — BUT LET OUR OWN RESOURCES TOW THEM BACK TO INTERNATIONAL WATERS — then Clinton and Sanders fall into the swamp of Obama’s cowardice.
In 56 years — 1960 to 2016 — watching presidents faced with important suddenly-breaking events (like the vessel seizure) I HAVE NEVER SEEN THE EQUAL OF OBAMA’S SILENCE YESTERDAY. Absolutely astonishing, with consequences we will see beginning with tonight’s new broadcasts..
Republican candidates, from now until the election, will have political campaign appearances and media advertisements on how Obama’s weakness was exploited by Iran, who are quite familiar with his lack of strength in negotiating the nuclear deal. And, of course, in stark contrast to the current president, MILLIONS OF AMERICANS REMEMBER RONALD REAGAN’S FIRMNESS AGAINST THE SOVIET UNION.
MODERATE-CENTRIST DEMOCRATS ARE STILL PATRIOTIC — especially when national security, and the safety of our military men and women is at risk. Enough of them will vote for the Republican nominee and a victory in the national race. “Mark my words” — as the cliché says.

Oh, I cannot stomach seeing anyone groveling to followers of the jihadist, Mohammad! And especially not military personnel! Are you KIDDING me?! I don’t expect the average person to be strong enough to stand up to this sort of thing. But to see a member of our military doing so is unbelievable!
Doesn’t ANYONE, anywhere have the guts to stand up to these bullies?! It’s disgraceful!
Champ says
Hear, hear, Mo! Great observation. I agree since the military’s our first line of defense.

I cannot even watch it. I can’t. Just reading the description was enough to make me sick.

I’m sure this guy was on the phone with someone from the State Department or obama’s White House and was told to do what he did. Either comply or ruin your career. Just another notch on iran’s belt against the United States.

Iran demanding that these sailors grovel to them and this US captain acquiescing are both sickening.
But would Obama have done anything to free him and his men if he *hadn’t* crawled before the Mullahs?
I wish I could be sure the answer was yes–but given Obama’s complete lack of interest in Iran kidnapping our military personnel and holding them hostage–as well as indifference to other Americans held by Iran–I really doubt it.
This officer probably figured he and his men were on their own…

One of the two boats could have put out a distress call as the Iranian boats were approaching. This would have promptly brought in the US navy air/sea backup. We do have close-by US bases. That’s where these small riverine boats are stationed.
Baucent says
Be interesting to know what the US Navy tell’s it’s captains do do if detained by the Iranians. I would have though he could have stated mechanical problems had caused them to stray into Iranian waters, but it was unintentional. That would have been factual without apologizing for events outside of their control. Perhaps he was threatened with long detention or torture if he didn’t co-operate. Unfortunately all this incident will do is embolden the Iranian, who are convinced the US is soft.

Strong leadership produces strong military and is felt by the personnels and vice versa. There is a general atmosphere of weakness in America (and here on Europe) which is reflected on these soldiers.
Somebody asked about the towel, it is of course to cover the hair of that woman.
What I see here is a replica to what happened to British soldiers when were captured by Iran some years ago.
You don’t expect much from nations that were raised to be ashamed of their culture and history and feel guilty of the sacrifices made by their fathers.
This is how civilisations fall. Even the mightiest army becomes useless when it loses its well to fight.
Daniel Triplett says
This whole incident should’ve been handled over the radio on the International Maritime Frequency.
I’m a former C-5 Aircraft Commander. All areas inside the threshold of the entry door are literally sovereign territory of the United States. To board a US aircraft (or vessel) without the permission of its Commander is a hostile act, and would be no different than Iranian paratroopers landing on the National Mall without permission.
My instructions from HQ on how to handle such a confrontation is to first explain to the intruder that the aircraft is US Territory, and they are not authorized to board. If we are in non-US Territory when this happens, like an airport in a foreign country, then we are directed to resist beyond the initial order not to board. If they’re armed and insist anyway to board, American Aircraft and Vessel Commanders are ordered by HQ to cease interfering with them, keep our mouths shut (other than to continue protesting), and report the incident to HQ.
What is NOT authorized is to say anything else to the intruders. No explanations, and certainly no apologies. The only thing we’re authorized to say is our ID, and make clear to them they are in violation of International Treaty.
If they were in International Waters, I would’ve opened fire on the Iranian vessels. BUT, since they were within 12 Nautical Miles of Farsi Island, they were in Iranian sovereign territory, so for us to fire upon them to prevent the arrest would’ve been highly inappropriate and illegal.
Daniel Triplett says
Typo above:
“If we are in non-US Territory when this happens, like an airport in a foreign country, then we are directed to *NOT* resist beyond the initial order not to board.”
