Peace In Our Time.
“Khamenei says US faces ‘punch in mouth’ in upcoming Iran elections,” Agence France-Presse, January 4, 2016:
Iran’s supreme leader said Monday the United States was seeking to influence next month’s elections in the Islamic republic but said such efforts would receive a “punch in the mouth.”
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s comments related to parliamentary polls and a ballot for the Assembly of Experts, a powerful committee of clerics who will pick the country’s next supreme leader when the incumbent, who is 76, dies. Both elections take place on February 26.
Political moderates and reformists are seeking to wrest back control of the currently conservative-dominated 290 member parliament on the back of President Hassan Rouhani’s nuclear deal with world powers last year.
The Assembly of Experts is also heavily made up of conservatives.
For the mainstream media, if you’re in Iran and back Sharia, you’re conservative. And if you’re in the U.S. and oppose Sharia, you’re conservative. The mainstream media uses “conservative” as a synonym for “someone we don’t like.”
Some 12,000 candidates have registered for the parliamentary election but many are expected to be excluded during vetting procedures carried out by another top Iranian committee, the Guardian Council.
Khamenei told a meeting of prayer leaders that attempts by “enemies” to distance Iran from its revolutionary mandate — the Islamic republic was formed in 1979 after the overthrow of a US-backed shah — would fail.
“Americans have set their eyes covetously on elections but the great and vigilant nation of Iran will act contrary to the enemies’ will, whether be it in elections or on other issues, and as before will punch them in the mouth,” he said.
The supreme leader, whose authority outweighs all politicians including Rouhani, has warned in recent months that July’s nuclear deal — which is yet to be implemented — would be followed by US attempts to “infiltrate” Iran.
Reiterating such sentiments on Monday, he said the US goal was to bring the Islamic republic closer to “their own goals rather than Iran’s goals of the revolution.”…

Pig Jizya says
It seems that ever since Obama gave them the $150 billion, they have gone bonkers. It was obviously a dumb move to give them the money. Trump is right — the stupidest deal ever.
Ernie says
Dear Pig Jizya , rewarding bad behaviour ( nuclear blackmail) is very stupid and equally dangerous indeed . Obama and his administration certainly must be aware of the fact that the $150 billion will buy lots of sophisticated weaponry etc. and it will strengthen Iran’s sitting government . Obama and his administration are DANGEROUS CRIMINALS , THUGS WITH LOTS OF BLOOD ON THEIR HANDS already . Giving a $150 billion to the arch enemy of Israel AND THE U.S.A. . The Israelis and the American tax payers are not amused is my estimation .
Ernie says
Don’t give your pearls to pigs……….

The only, and I do mean only, time the Shi’ite and Sunni Muslims are united is when it comes to their being anti-American.

… and their belief that the allah god of islam (unknowable; the best of all deceivers) and its slave, Muhammad (lately contrived; full of normal human lusts) is the premier example to be followed …
sam says
Agreed 100%. More surprising to me is we have Republican majority in Congress and Senate and they can not do a thing or they don’t want to do anything against Obama. So what is the deal about democracy and the thing about rule of “majority rules”?
Custos Custodum says
It is the Republicans who – after loudly protesting – chose to give Obama advance authority for the Iran “deal.”
Perhaps in 50 years, a few scattered congregations of emigrants from the former U.S. will manage to assemble documentation showing paid collusion between the “parties” in the formerly great country.
Don McKellar says
Iran was leading Obama and his flunkies around by a leash until this deal was done. Now that it’s done, they’re riding him like the new boy in the prison cell block.
Ernie says
Hahaha…., maybe Obama’s wet dream ? I’m always in for a good laugh Mr. McKellar , thank you !

A dumb move! You must be kidding me: it was the most insane decision in the whole America history made by a president.

Maybe a smack in the face – a bloodied mouth, busted jaw and some missing teeth – is what America needs to bring it back to reality about the Islamist threat and its insane migrant policy.
Laurence says
@Singh the Sikh
Very good point. Perhaps that is what it’d take. However methinks it likely would have to be a literal event.
Walter Sieruk says
Those who really deserves a strong “punch in the mouth” is Ayatollah Khameni along with others ayatollahs and mullahs who have much awful power in this cruel and vicious and oppressive tyrannical Islamic regime of Iran. That “punch n the mouth” should actually be done not by any kind of American forces but by the Iranian people themselves who have little to no human rights under this current Islamic tyranny.. For the ruling Muslim clerics terribly come down the the people of Iran through their ruthless gang of thugs who are called “The Revolutionary Guards. ” Therefore the Iranian people live in terrible fear of those Islamic tyrants This is thus a reminder of the wise words printed in POOR RICHARD’S ALMANACK. The wise words are “Those who are feared are also hated.”
gravenimage says
The problem, Walter, is in assuming that most Iranians actually oppose the Mullahs.
The average Iranian is a devout Muslim–just like their Sunni thug brothers across Dar-al-Islam.
miriamrove says
Happy holidays G!
Not true. Only 2% of all Iranians go to the mosque. Most Iranians despise and detest the Ayatollahs. They(Ayatollahs) are S… in their pants because of sanctions being lifted. They know the doors are going to be wide open and literally see a danger to their survival. m
Wellington says
So, mr, when are the bulk of the Iranian people going to find the stomach to overthrow their theocratic overlords? You know the old saying, every people have the government they deserve. When tyrants continue year after year to rule over a people at least some of the blame for this must be placed on the people themselves.
worldcitizen1919 says
He’s right. We are in touch with Iran regularly and most iranians want change but it’s not easy with all the spies and ‘virtue police’ watching everything you do and don’t do.
But there is a saying I heard from some Iranian friends that says one day ‘there will be a Mulla hanging from every tree’. So they’re very worried.
gravenimage says
I *wish* I could see some real signs that Iranians are poised to eject the Mullahs–I would really love to be wrong here. But so far, Iran has been one of the most appalling Shari’ah states over the past 35 years, and no end in sight.
In fact, the Islamic revolution set the model of the “modern” return of so much of the Muslim world to strict Shari’ah.
I agree with Wellington here.
That being said, I wish you and your family a very happy new year! I hope your brave son is doing better.

Aren’t you glad that Obama is enabling these barbarians? sarc/off
wildjew says
I would have negotiated a better deal with Iran.
wildjew says
Why not give them an ultimatum? “Give up your nuclear enrichment or we obliterate your nuclear sites.”
Trump said he would “absolutely” negotiate with Ahmadinejad. (Daily Caller)
Donald Trump: “When I am elected president, I will renegotiate with Iran” (http://thehill.com/)
Jay Boo says
Obliterate all their nuclear sites except for the ones that can only launch as far as Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and Baghdad, Iraq.
mortimer says
Trump’s strength is negotiation. He just needs to learn the value of free expression to the US, and Islam’s jihad doctrine, Kafir doctrine, taqiyya doctrine, misogyny doctrine, and the Shi’ite-Sunni divergence and then he will be ready to go.
In other words, he has as much to learn about Islam as Obama.
Americans think they can just send anyone to negotiate with the taqiyya-meisters of Iran as if they are going to talk to rational, civilized Europeans.
THE MULLAHS ARE DEATH CULTISTS!
worldcitizen1919 says
Having bases in Bahrain and Saudi Arabiia and elsewhere in the Middle East is not in America’s interests especially now when Shiah uprisings might involve having to attack them and dragging America further into this sectarian war.
Leave the Muslims to destroy each other but by involving itself America is only dragging Americans into a possible world conflict. What do we care if the Arabs destroy each other? It makes our job easier so why get involved?
It’s always been about the oil and that’s where America is compromising her own values such as human rights in order to gain traction with the most evil regimes in the world because America is broke.
Turning a blind eye to injustices and crawling to these extremist regimes, bowing down to the Saudi King and cowering to Iran is only emboldening their aspirations to dominate the world.
With America out of the way, a weak America that can’t even maintain sanctions, America has already received jabs to the head and jaw there is only the final knockout punch to come.
Jay Boo says
Hmmm
I don’t know what to make of that.
“Having bases in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia and elsewhere in the Middle East”
also happens to be a MUSLIM complaint as well.
You began in one direction but deteriorated into wishful hatred against America.
worldcitizen1919 says
Give me a break. Only saying it’s dangerous to back one side in a sectarian war. It destroys neutrality that’s all.
Im only stating the obvious that American bases are going to be in danger as this crisis deepens. No other inference is meant or intended.
I am NOT a Muslim. I am a BAHA’i. I follow Baha’u’llah Who Claimed to be the Promised One of all religions including the return of Christ and Baha’u’llah ABROGATED the ENTIRE Quran and REPLACED it with the Most Holy Book, a book which abrogates JIHAD.
Baha’u’llah also,CONDEMNS strongly the behaviour of Mullahs and ABOLISHED priesthood.
Baha’u’llah also wrote to all the Kings, Queens, Pope and religious leaders of the world.
AND the Baha’i Shrines and Gardens are a World Heritage Site in ISRAEL. Hardly can I be accused of being a Muslim. But if this was a site attacking Buddha or Krishna and spreading wrong and harmful ideas about CHRIST I would be here to contribute and uphold their truths also.

More irrationality and inconsistency from this apologist for Islam.
Just yesterday worldcitizen1919 was railing against the US being uncaring because we haven’t rescued his Baha’i coreligionists in Iran.

Every effort should always be made to stop humans killing humans no matter where.
What I meant was to be wary about taking sides because taking sides would involve the western world in what is really a middle eastern problem.
Every effort should be made to prevent war but then if the west become involved this could start a world war.
I would rather the war be confined between the Saudis and Iranians if it couldn’t be stopped than involving us all. I don’t want a world war.
If staying out prevents a world war then so be it.
As to the Baha’is. We don’t ask anyone to intervene for us except that the world and press continually put pressure on Iran to give freedom to all Iranians and human rights to their country. In our Baha’i communications the suffering of all Iranians is always mentioned not just Baha’is that would be against everything we believe in.
All humanity matter we are just a small insignificant section.
Thank you very much for taking the time to respond.

Yes, when you can’t prove your case with words and facts, the old “punch in the mouth” is a peaceful substitute.

Wow all that ass-kissing from team obama has *really* paid off / sarc.
Wellington says
Yeah, it sure has, hasn’t it Champ? Obama is the worst kind of fool. He is a very powerful, arrogant and influential fool. No doubt he will go to his grave never figuring out how the world really works or should work.
On a more positive note, Happy New Year to you and all those you hold close to your heart.
Wellington says
Let me please minus that extra “it.” Wish I could do so as easily with Obama and Islam. Now, there’s a beautiful sentiment if ever there were one.
Champ says
Obama is the worst kind of fool.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yes — he sure is, Wellington. Only a fool would attempt to placate the likes of the Iranian regime; or obama is deliberately playing the role of an appeaser. Either way he is a fool indeed, and a dangerous one, at that.
Thank you, Wellington! Happy New Year to you and yours, too! And on New Year’s Day I turned 60 — woot! My husband and 4 kids managed to throw me a surprise party, and everyone I hold dear was there. They truly surprised me, and I had nooo idea that they would plan something so fun and memorable ..I’m still enjoying the surprise 🙂
Take care!
Wellington says
A belated Happy Birthday, Champ. On Christmas Eve I turned 64 and so I have four years up on you, youngin’. Take good care, my “young” friend.
Serious question for all the commenters here:
BACKGROUND: Barry (let’s treat his Third World aspirations with the contempt they deserve) has been going all-out to encourage Muslim immigration and influence in the U.S. and world-wide, coordinating with Muslim dictators because “the future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam,” drastically undercutting law enforcement and intelligence efforts, etc.
Recently, Barry and his team “negotiated” a “deal” whereby the U.S. gives Shiite Iran 150 billion dollar in “return” for the U.S. giving Iran more leeway to press ahead with its nuclear bomb.
Sunni Saudi Arabia (founded in the early 1900s, and to whose former king Barry famously insisted on bowing) sees a Shiite bomb as a mortal danger to its survival. As a student, Barry traveled to Sunni “Boh-kis-tawn” which already has the bomb.
Meanwhile, following apparent U.S. dithering and missteps over Syria, Iraq and Islamic State, Russia seems poised to establish a bridgehead in Syria and probably elsewhere along the Shiite crescent.
QUESTION: What really motivates Barry and his machine? What are their real aims?
Some possibilities (no doubt there are others):
(1) Third-Worldism. Worship of anything progressive, anti-Western and “Third World” was rampant on 1980s college campuses, culturally a political outgrowth of 1968 rebellion against “squares” and along with “peace” and “anti-nuclear” movements a politically a convenient hiding place for Soviet-sponsored communists.
(2) Barry an Iranian Stooge? Barry made a point of hanging out with various Third World students during his time at Occidental College and could have established links to Iran through his early international contacts. More importantly, Obama’s chief handler Valerie Jarrett was born in Iran to American parents and presumably maintains personal relations with the rulers in Teheran. In this scenario, Iran’s openly contemptuous treatment of Barry is a smokescreen.
(3) Cynical Manipulation. It is conceivable that arming Iran is a cynical move intended to foment strife between Iran and the Sunni monarchies, similar to Kissinger’s position on the Iran-Iraq war (“Too bad they can’t both lose.”). This scenario does not at first sight mesh with Barry’s pro-Muslim activities in the U.S., but perhaps he has some vision that his own importance in the Muslim world would be enhanced if the big players are engaged in a fight to the death. Weirder things have happened in world history.
(4) Hatred of Israel/Jews. This is admittedly a long shot, but one must remember that Jew hatred is inculcated into Muslim minds from a very young and impressionable age and correspondingly deep-rooted. Saudi Arabia has long been well aware that the destruction of Israel would be followed immediately by a struggle to the death between itself and Iran. In a military struggle, Saudi Arabia would have bad cards because it is a fractious country with a significant population of Shiites and no real historical cohesion. With this in mind, Saudi Arabia has been noticeably reluctant to engage Israel directly.
Barry could have switched to backing Iran as a more effective way to undermine Israel. This assumes, of course, that Barry is consumed with blinding Jew hatred, but one recalls that Hitler murdered millions of potential soldiers and workers because Jew hatred was more important in his warped mind than winning the war.
================
Each of the above explanations is seemingly inconsistent with some apparent facts but there may be logical explanations for such discrepancies.
In addition, there are, of course, other possible explanations as to what is really happening here, and why. Any thoughts?
