No fewer than 65 persons have been killed in Saturday night’s attack on Dalori, a village bordering Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, a member of a youth vigilance group and residents have said.
Dalori is a settlement of about four kilometers away from Maiduguri.
The military confirmed the attack on Dalori village but were silent on the number of casualties.
A member of the youth vigilance group in the village, who did not want his name mentioned, told our correspondent on the telephone on Sunday that not less than 65 persons were killed with over 100 others injured in the attack.
One of the residents of the community who fled to Maiduguri, Yusuf Ibrahim told our correspondent that the attack on the village started around 6:50pm and lasted for about an hour.
Ibrahim said the insurgents who were dressed in army camouflages came in Hilux vans and motorcycles operated unhindered, setting ablaze houses in the village.
He said livestock were not spared as the insurgents set them ablaze, and carted away foodstuff….
