Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

Every second schoolchild in Vienna not a native speaker

Feb 18, 2016 9:52 am By Robert Spencer

This means that in a generation, more or less, Austria will essentially be finished as a state based on Judeo-Christian values. This need not be the case if a concerted effort were being made to inculcate those values into the immigrants, but no such effort is being made, and those who should be calling for that effort are instead actively discouraging it.

Vienna refugee class

“Every second schoolchild in Vienna not a native speaker,” The Local, February 18, 2016:

The number of schoolchildren in Austria who don’t speak German as their first language is increasing. Nationwide, one in five children speak a foreign language at home and in Vienna almost one in two children don’t speak German as their mother language.

With the number of migrant families in the capital increasing last year, Integration Minister Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) has called for a “rational solution”.

Currently, foreign-born residents in Vienna make up 33 percent of the population, and this is expected to increase to more than 40 percent by 2035.

In Vienna’s Kindergartens around 58 percent of children don’t speak German as their mother language. Statistics show that children from migrant families tend to have a disadvantage when it comes to education, with the majority going on to attend vocational schools rather than gymnasium and then university.

Austrians with higher qualifications generally have better employment opportunities and earnings increase as an adult’s level of education and skills increase.

In Vienna 47.5 percent of school pupils say that they don’t speak German at home. Kurz wants to introduce special German classes for children who speak it as a second language. “Only when children have a sufficient grasp of German, should they be allowed to join regular classes,” he said. He added that this shouldn’t be “an emergency solution” but was the only “rational solution”.

A report last year from the OECD showed that Austria spent €4.5bn in 2013 on tertiary education, yet literacy skills remain poor compared with other industrialised countries.

Asylum seekers who have been granted leave to remain in Austria will soon have their benefits cut if they don’t attend German courses and show that they are willing to look for work.

There are currently 2,300 refugee children attending school in Vienna and since the start of the year ten ‘New to Vienna’ classes have been set up especially for refugee children, which are designed to enable them learn German as quickly as possible….

    …………………………………

This is quite terrifying. Vienna is one of the most civilized cities in the world–how long will that continue to be the case?

    More:

Asylum seekers who have been granted leave to remain in Austria will soon have their benefits cut if they don’t attend German courses and show that they are willing to look for work.
    …………………………………

OK–these are more steps than many European nations are taking.

But learning German and being willing to look for work–clearly things these “asylum seekers” have been unwilling to do, or this would not even come up–are no guarantee that these aliens will ever become real Austrian citizens.

If these aliens were people with a civilized creed, learning German would be the first step towards their assimilating and contributing to the society that has given them asylum. With violent and supremacist Muslims, this is not apt to be the case.

To gravenimage- Hi lady, thank you for your comments about this deplorable and sad situation. I feel sick knowing that the Austrian representatives only now want to take positive steps to insure that the natiinal language, German, a very beautiful language, will be learned by the immigrants. And as far as continuing with state funded benefits, I agree with Margaret Thatcher, “Eventually, you run out of other people’s money.” Stay well dear.

Pong, you might not be of that opinion if your experience with German included great men of letters and the arts like Goethe, Thomas Mann, Rainer Maria Rilke, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Here’s Placido Domingo singing “Dies Bildnis ist bezaubernd schön” (“This image is enchantingly beautiful”) from “The Magic Flute”:

Is this fit for nothing but “communication with horses”?

I propose that Charles V’s attitude towards German (probably actually Dutch, given his birth in Brussels–at that stage in time, the two groups of dialects ahd not diverged quite that much; and even today the linguists quibble over whether the people of Groningen speak a dialect of Dutch or a dialect of Niedersachsich), and, by extension, those of subjects who spoke it, may be one reason why a good portion of the then-Holy Roman Empire opted to become Protestant. Martin Luther, after all, gave his famous line “Here I stand” when he was called to defend himself in front of young Charles at the Diet of Worms; and it wasn’t long aafterwards that his German version of the New Testament got published (followed not long after by the complete Heilige Schrift).

As for non-native speakers of German in the schools of one-time “Red Vienna”, there are lots and lots of English Language Learners (ELL) in many school systems in the USA, too. It’s one reason why Uncle Kepha–both of whose US-born parents (God rest them) heard languages other than English while growing up–has a job.

The task at hand is for large segments of the West to re-appropriate some faith in its own traditions. I had an interesting discussion among my students while discussing political ideas of the 17th and 18th centuries, and the rise of republican and constitutionalist ideas in the West. A Muslim boy from Iraq opined that people in his country, Syria, Libya, and the like simply were unfit for the thing–and that was something wrong with the Middle East. While it might not have been the time to query if Islam might not have been part of the problem, I am praying for that student that he–and a few others like him–might not end up asking it themselves, and through be led to a better faith (in Christ, of course).

Hi gravenimage- Thank you for your response to Pong. I agree with you that every nation must defend their own borders (heads up, President Obama) their own languages, chosen religions, cultures and other important distinctive identifying factors that make that country what it is! As always, it is a pleasure to read your posts.

Is all this just a symptom of greedy employers worshiping the “God of of cheap labour” and governments in the west responding to this.A former labour Home Secretary in the UK said publicly on TV that the Treasury there told him not to restrict immigration as it had the effect of keeping British workers wages down What money grubbing people they are.No sense of patriotism except when it suits them !!

Isn’t it ironic? The capitalists want to make profits using other people and their money, the liberal governments want to build a fantasy world using other people and their money, pacifist religions want to destroy nationalism using other people and their money, and Islam wants to enslave the people and take their money.

It’s like some “perfect storm”, a choir of cultural assassins. Only the “people” can save themselves.

I recall in the old British movie _I’m Alright, Jack_, Peter Sellers’ character, a Communist shop steward, makes a speech in which he grouses about immigrant black labor.

Holding to a small-o oacifist religion myself, my gripe about nationalism is that when it goes large-N, it gets pretty destructive, too. We’ve seen that at work in European history between 1800-1945. It boiled over in Asia in the first half of the 20th century, too.

When I say small-p pacifist, it means that I think peace is better than war, and take seriously Paul’s admonition to pursue it as much as it is up to me. But that also leaves room for the just war doctrine to come into play when needed. I’m a small-n nationalist, as well: I take the “under God” phrase in the Pledge of Allegiance seriously.

I think the more pressing worry for the welfare state governments is that recent generations haven’t been having enough children to replace themselves, but they’re living to a ripe old age. The welfare state needs more workers to help pay the taxes to keep funding the growing number of the old, the sick, and the poor.

But that scheme can only work if the immigrants actually assimilate enough to get jobs, and good enough jobs with high enough pay that they can pay high enough taxes to keep the welfare state going. Low wage workers don’t pay much or anything in taxes, and whatever they do pay probably won’t cover their own benefits let alone the benefits of a large, childless previous generation.

And then there’s the big irony that a lot of Muslim immigrants don’t seem interested in being anything but “guests” in Europe.

Indeed. The age of retirement has not been reflecting the changes both in life expectancy and quality of life. Plus, there’s the demographic change: besides living longer, people have less children. If each citizen was expected to save up for retirement during their adult life, those things wouldn’t be a problem. But if everyone is depending on the state to provide for them in their golden years, things get a bit more complicated. And no politician wants to commit career suicide and say to their potential voters something like “look, things aren’t as they were 30 or 40 years ago. We need to do some changes to our system. There will be a transition period but starting in such date, the age of retirement will be raised and the max pensions will be capped at such and such. We *need* these changes to ensure our system remains viable”. No one would vote for them. Instead, it’s safer to talk about “rich people” paying their “fair share”, or “redistribution of wealth” – euphemisms for “eat the rich”. That raises a couple of issues: a) who gets to decide who is rich and who isn’t, and b) what happens after eating the rich? Last time I checked, no one could afford to pay for housing, transportation and children working for a poor person.

Anyway, I think I rambled about those damn commies long enough 😀 . Suffice to say I believe that as long as a nation keeps voting career politicians into power, their situation is not likely to improve.

The rationalization behind killing your own culture with low birth rates, due to global over population, also tends to result cognitively in immigration as justification of the maintenance of domestic population.

If you espouse limited population growth, through family planning, you should also rationalize a lower population instead of destroying your culture through immigration, or at least be very careful in your selection process.

I don’t believe it’s possible to be overzealous in the selection process. I think that careless immigration will lead to war and destruction, when coupled with low birth rates.

It would be interesting to see these numbers broken down by nationality and ancestry: do Austrians in general have a low literacy rate or is that number brought down by immigrants and their descendants?

    • gravenimage says

      Feb 19, 2016 at 6:07 pm

Angemon, the literacy rate in Austria is 98%, and was even higher before the recent influx of migrants. Austria has a generally fine educational system.

I doubt the problem is with native Austrians, who are quite literate.

Also–notice the reference to “tertiary education”–that means people who have not learned to read in either grade or high school, which in this case mostly means adult immigrants who have not been through Austria’s schools as children.

      • Angemon says

        Feb 20, 2016 at 3:27 pm

That was my guess all along, GI. It’s not de facto Austrian citizens who are illiterate but migrants and their descendants who refuse to assimilate.

In Germany, asylum seekers have been placed in adult apprenticeship programmes to learn technical skills that would get them jobs in industry.

also in Germany, Muslim high school students excuse their poor academic performance because ‘We can learn nothing from kuffirs’.

  12. dumbledoresarmy says

Here’s an idea to tip the demographic balance in a healthier direction. Austria could put a complete *ban* on all further immigration of identifiable Muslims, *refuse* to grant citizenship to *any* Muslims already present who do not have Austrian citizenship – residency only, to be rescinded on commission of any serious crime, and… contact Barnabas Fund’s “Operation Safe Havens” program and offer to take in several hundred thousand Syrian Catholic and Iraqi Catholic refugees. Barnabas knows these communities through and through, having worked with them for *decades*, and could vouch for each and every person selected to enter Austria. The main form of Christianity practised in Austria is Catholicism, so these Catholic refugees would be culturally compatible, and could be assimilated by means of churches, convents and the catholic parochial schools. I am sure that they would be tremendously grateful to be offered hospitality by fellow Christians, and would soon learn German… and within a generation or two, just like Maronite and Assyrian Catholics have done in Australia, they would be intermarrying with Austrians.
