Jihad Watch

Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

Hugh Fitzgerald: Obama, Islam, and History

Feb 3, 2016 3:03 pm By Hugh Fitzgerald

“‘Thomas Jefferson’s opponents tried to stir things up by suggesting he was a Muslim. So I was not the first,’ Obama said, sparking laughter. ‘No, it’s true. Look it up. I’m in good company.'” — From USA Today on Barack Obama’s visit to the Islamic Society of Baltimore, February 3, 2016

Barack Obama paid a visit — his first — to an American mosque today. He did so in the same feelgood spirit with which he held his first “Annual Iftar Dinner” in 2010. That dinner prompted a Jihad Watch post which, considerably modified and enlarged, is reprinted below.

“The first Muslim ambassador to the United States, from Tunisia, was hosted by President Jefferson, who arranged a sunset dinner for his guest because it was Ramadan — making it the first known iftar at the White House, more than 200 years ago.” — Barack Obama, speaking on August 14, 2010, at the “Annual Iftar Dinner” at the White House

Really? Is that what happened? Was there a “first known Iftar at the White House” given by none other than President Thomas Jefferson for the “first Muslim ambassador to the United States”? That’s what Barack Obama and his dutiful speechwriters told the Muslims in attendance at what was billed as the “Annual Iftar Dinner,” knowing full well that the remarks would be published for all Americans to see. Apparently Obama, and those who helped write this speech for him, and others still who vetted it, found nothing wrong with attempting, as part of the administration’s policy of both trying to win Muslim hearts and Muslim mind and to convince Americans that Islam has always been part of America’s history, to misrepresent that history. For the dinner Jefferson gave was not intended to be an Iftar dinner, and his guest that evening was not “the first Muslim ambassador…. from Tunisia,” but in using such words, Obama was engaged in a little nunc pro tunc backdating, so that the Iftar dinner that he gave in 2010 could be presented as part of a supposed tradition of such presidential Iftar dinners, going all the way back to the time of Jefferson.

But before explaining what that “first Iftar dinner” really was, let’s go back to an earlier but even more egregious example of Obama’s rewriting: the speech he delivered in Cairo on June 4, 2009. In that speech, he described Islam and America sharing basic principles:

“I’ve come here to Cairo to seek a new beginning between the United States and Muslims around the world, one based on mutual interest and mutual respect, and one based upon the truth that America and Islam are not exclusive and need not be in competition.  Instead, they overlap, and share common principles — principles of justice and progress; tolerance and the dignity of all human beings.”

And then for his Muslim guests he segued into a flattering lesson in History. First he described Western Civ. which, he said, owed so much of its development to Islam:

“As a student of history, I also know civilization’s debt to Islam. It was Islam — at places like Al-Azhar — that carried the light of learning through so many centuries, paving the way for Europe’s Renaissance and Enlightenment. It was innovation in Muslim communities — (applause) — it was innovation in Muslim communities that developed the order of algebra; our magnetic compass and tools of navigation; our mastery of pens and printing; our understanding of how disease spreads and how it can be healed. Islamic culture has given us majestic arches and soaring spires; timeless poetry and cherished music; elegant calligraphy and places of peaceful contemplation. And throughout history, Islam has demonstrated through words and deeds the possibilities of religious tolerance and racial equality.” (Applause.)

And  Islam played — according to Obama — a significant role in American history, too:

I also know that Islam has always been a part of America’s story. The first nation to recognize my country was Morocco. In signing the Treaty of Tripoli in 1796, our second President, John Adams, wrote, “The United States has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion or tranquility of Muslims.” And since our founding, American Muslims have enriched the United States. They have fought in our wars, they have served in our government, they have stood for civil rights, they have started businesses, they have taught at our universities, they’ve excelled in our sports arenas, they’ve won Nobel Prizes, built our tallest building, and lit the Olympic Torch. And when the first Muslim American was recently elected to Congress, he took the oath to defend our Constitution using the same Holy Koran that one of our Founding Fathers — Thomas Jefferson — kept in his personal library. (Applause.)

We could go through those paragraphs accompanied by such keen students of history as Gibbon, John Quincy Adams,, Jacob Burckhardt, and Winston Churchill, all of whom had occasion to study and comment upon Islam, their remarks rebutting proleptically Obama’s vaporings with their much more informed and sober take on the faith — but that is for another occasion. We can note, however, that when Obama in his Cairo speech talks about “the light of learning” being held aloft at places like Al-Azhar, he misstates: some Greek texts were translated into Arabic and thereby “kept alive” instead of being lost to history, but the translators were mostly Arabic-speaking Christians and Jews, not Muslims, and the work of translation went on not at Al-Azhar but at the courts of Cordoba  and Baghdad. The word “algebra” is certainly Arab, but algebra itself was a product of Sanskrit mathematicians. The printing press was not a Musim invention and its use was accepted in the Muslim East only long after it had been in use in Western Christendom. Indeed, in Islam itself the very notion of innovation, or “bida,” is frowned upon, and not only, as some Muslim apologists have claimed, in theological matters. And so on.

“I also know that Islam has always been a part of America’s story. The first nation to recognize my country was Morocco.I also know that Islam has always been a part of America’s story. The first nation to recognize my country was Morocco.”

The picture Obama paints by implication, of Muslims being deeply  involved in the grand sweep of American history practically from the time of the Framers (at least he didn’t make the mistake of the State Department flunkie who claimed Muslims accompanied Columbus on his voyages) is simply false. The first mosque in North America was a one-room affair in 1929; the second mosque was not built until 1934. The first Muslim to be elected to Congress was Keith Ellison, less than a decade ago. The Muslim appearance in America is very late. As for Morocco being the first country to recognize the United States in a treaty, Morocco also soon violated that very treaty and became the first country to go to war with the young Republic. That is something Obama’s advisers may not have told him.

When Obama quotes that single phrase from John Adams, made at the signing of the Treaty of Tripoli, a treaty designed to free American ships and seaman from the ever-present threat from the marauding Muslim corsairs in the Mediterranean that attacked Christian shipping at will (and when America became independent, it could no longer count on the Royal Navy to protect its ships) he wants us to think that our second president was approving of Islam.  But that is to misinterpret his statement, clearly meant to be taken to have this meaning: we in the United States, have a priori nothing against Islam. Rhetoric designed to diplomatically please. But based on his subsequent experiences with the North African Muslims, including his experiences with them after various treaties were made and then broken, Adams came to a different and negative view of Islam, a view that  was shared by all those Americans who, whether diplomats or seized seamen, had any direct dealings  with Muslims.  America’s first encounter with Muslims was that with the Barbary Pirates, from Morocco to Algiers to Tunis to Tripoli, and their behavior rendered Adams’s initial “the United States has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion or tranquility of Muslims” null and void. And it was not John Adams himself, but his son John Quincy Adams (our most learned President), who studied Islam in depth, and it was he to whom Obama ought to have turned to find out more about Islam. For he would have found, among other piercing and accurate remarks by J. Q. Adams, the following:

The precept of the koran is, perpetual war against all who deny, that Mahomet is the prophet of God. The vanquished may purchase their lives, by the payment of tribute; the victorious may be appeased by a false and delusive promise of peace; and the faithful follower of the prophet, may submit to the imperious necessities of defeat: but the command to propagate the Moslem creed by the sword is always obligatory, when it can be made effective. The commands of the prophet may be performed alike, by fraud, or by force.

Isn’t it amazing that not a single American official — and not just Obama — has ever alluded to the study of Islam that one of our most illustrious presidents produced?

Again, Obama, with a jumble of Jefferson, Ellison, and Holy Koran:

“And when the first Muslim American was recently elected to Congress, he took the oath to defend our Constitution using the same Holy Koran that one of our Founding Fathers — Thomas Jefferson — kept in his personal library.”

When Obama notes that Thomas Jefferson had a copy of the Qur’an in his “personal” library, he is subtly implying that Jefferson approved of its contents. Keith Ellison did much the same when he ostentatiously used that very copy of the Qur’an for his own swearing-in as the first Muslim Congressman. But Jefferson, a curious and cultivated man, with a large library, had a copy of the Qur’an for the same reason you or I might possess a copy, that is simply to find out what was in it. And we might note in passing that it was not the “Holy Koran” that Jefferson possessed and Ellison borrowed, but an English translation by George Sales of the “Koran.” According to Muslims, the epithet “Holy” can only be attached to a Koran written and read in the original Arabic. White House, for the next time, take note.

There is not a single American statesman or traveler or diplomat in the days of the early Republic who had a good word for Islam once he had studied it, or had had dealings with Muslims or had travelled to their countries. Look high, look low, consult whatever records you want in the National Archives or the Library of Congress, and you will not find any such testimony. And the very idea that an American President would someday praise Islam to the skies in Obama’s fulsome manner would have astounded them all.

”And throughout history, Islam has demonstrated through words and deeds the possibilities of religious tolerance”

Also sprach Obama. But Islam is based on an uncompromising division of humanity into Muslims and Non-Muslims, Believers and Unbelievers, and Unbelievers, at best, can be allowed to live in a Muslim polity — be “tolerated” — only if they accept a position of permanent and humiliating inferiority.  It would be fascinating if Obama could name even one example of Islam demonstrating through words and deeds “the possibilities of religious tolerance.”

But let’s return to Obama’s assertion about Jefferson’s “Iftar Dinner,” or rather, to that dinner that Barack Obama would have us all believe was the first “Iftar Dinner” at the White House, way back in 1805.

Here is the background to that meal in 1805 which not Jefferson, but Obama, calls an “Iftar Dinner”:

“In the Mediterranean, American ships, now deprived of the protection formerly offered by the Royal Navy, suffered constant depredations by Muslim corsairs, who were not so much pirates acting alone but were officially encouraged to prey on Christian shipping, and at times even recorded the areas of the Mediterranean where they planned to go in search of Christian prey. Under Jefferson, America took a more aggressive line:’

“Soon after the Revolutionary War and the consequent loss of the British navy’s protection, American merchant vessels had become prey for Barbary corsairs. Jefferson was outraged by the demands of ransom for civilians captured from American vessels and the Barbary states’ expectation of annual tribute.

“The crisis with Tunis erupted when the USS Constitution captured Tunisian vessels attempting to run the American blockade of Tripoli. The bey of Tunis threatened war and sent Mellimelli [Sidi Soliman Mellimelli] to the United States to negotiate full restitution for the captured vessels and to barter for tribute.”

Mellimelli was not, pace Obama, “the first Muslim ambassador to the United States”—there was no official exchange of ambassadors – but a temporary envoy with a single limited task: to get an agreement that would set free the Tunisian vessels and come to an agreement about future payment – if any — of tribute by, or to Tripoli. At the end of six months that envoy was to return home.

The Muslim envoy made some unexpected personal demands in Washington:

“Jefferson balked at paying tribute but accepted the expectation that the host government would cover all expenses for such an emissary. He arranged for Mellimelli and his 11 attendants to be housed at a Washington hotel, and rationalized that the sale of the four horses and other fine gifts sent by the bey of Tunis would cover costs. Mellimelli’s request for “concubines” as a part of his accommodations was left to Secretary of State James Madison. Jefferson assured one senator that obtaining peace with the Barbary powers was important enough to “pass unnoticed the irregular conduct of their ministers.”

Some readers will no doubt be reminded by this request for “concubines” of how the State Department has supplied female companions to much more recent Arab visitors, including the late King Hussein of Jordan.

Mellimelli proved to be the exotic cynosure of all eyes, with his American hosts not really understanding some of his reactions, as his “surprise” at the “social freedom women enjoyed in America” and his belief that only Moses, Jesus Christ, and Mohammed were acceptable “prophets” to follow, for they lacked the understanding of Islam that would have explained such reactions:

“Despite whispers regarding his conduct, Mellimelli received invitations to numerous dinners and balls, and according to one Washington hostess was “the lion of the season.” At the president’s New Year’s Day levee the Tunisian envoy provided “its most brilliant and splendid spectacle,” and added to his melodramatic image at a later dinner party hosted by the secretary of state. Upon learning that the Madisons were unhappy at being childless, Mellimelli flung his “magical” cloak around Dolley Madison and murmured an incantation that promised she would bear a male child. His conjuring, however, did not work.

Differences in culture and customs stirred interest on both sides. Mellimelli’s generous use of scented rose oil was noted by many of those who met him, and guards had to be posted outside his lodgings to turn away the curious. For his part, the Tunisian was surprised at the social freedom women enjoyed in America and was especially intrigued by several delegations of Native Americans from the western territories then visiting Washington. Mellimelli inquired which prophet the Indians followed: Moses, Jesus Christ or Mohammed. When he was told none of them, that they worshiped “the Great Spirit” alone, he was reported to have pronounced them “vile hereticks.”

So that’s it. Sidi Soliman Mellimelli installed himself for six months at a Washington hotel, for which the American government apparently picked up the tab including, very likely, that for the requested “concubines.” He cut a dashing figure:

“The curious were not to be disappointed by the appearance of the first Muslim envoy to the United States – a large figure with a full dark beard dressed in robes of richly embroidered fabrics and a turban of fine white muslin.”

“Over the next six months, this exotic representative from a distant and unfamiliar culture would add spice to the Washington social season but also test the diplomatic abilities of President Jefferson.”

During the time Mellimelli was here, Ramadan occurred. And as it happens, during that Ramadan observed by Mellimelli, President Jefferson invited Sidi Soliman Mellimelli for dinner at the White House. The dinner was not meant to be an “Iftar dinner” but just a dinner, albeit at the White House; it was originally set for three thirty in the afternoon (our founding fathers dined early in the pre-Edison days of their existence). Mellimelli said he could not come at that appointed hour of three thirty p.m. but only after sundown.

Jefferson, a courteous man, simply moved the dinner forward by a few hours. He didn’t change the menu, he didn’t change anything else, he did not see himself as offering an “Iftar Dinner” and there are no records to hint that he did. Barack Obama, 200 years later, is trying to rewrite American history, with some nunc-pro-tunc backdating, in order to flatter or please his Muslim guests. But he is misrepresenting American history to Americans, including schoolchildren who are now being subject to all kinds of Islamic propaganda, in newly-mandated textbooks, that so favorably depict Islam, and present it as so integral a part of American life.

Now there is a kind of coda to this dismal tale, and it is provided by the New York Times, which likes to put on airs and think of itself as “the newspaper of record,” whatever that means. The Times carried a front-page story on August 14, 2010, written by one Sheryl Gay Stolberg, and no doubt gone over by many vigilant editors. This story contains a predictably glowing account of Barack Obama’s remarks a few days before at the “Annual Iftar Dinner.” Here is the paragraph that caught my eye:

“In hosting the iftar, Mr. Obama was following a White House tradition that, while sporadic, dates to Thomas Jefferson, who held a sunset dinner for the first Muslim ambassador to the United States. President George W. Bush hosted iftars annually.”

Question for Sheryl Gay Stolberg, and for her editors at The New York Times: You report that there is a “White House tradition that, while sporadic, dates to Thomas Jefferson.” I claim that you are wrong. I claim that there is no White House Tradition of Iftar Dinners. I claim that Thomas Jefferson, in moving forward by a few hours a dinner that changed in no other respect, for Sidi Soliman Mellimelli, did not think he thi not providing what he thought of as an “Iftar Dinner” but simply a dinner, at a time his guest requested. And to describe as a “White House tradition” wou first of the “Annual Iftar Dinners” that, the New York Times tells us, has since Jefferson’s non-existent “Iftar Dinner,” have been observed “sporadically.”

When, then, was the next in this long, but “sporadic” series of iftar dinners? I can find no record of any, for roughly the next two hundred years, until we come to the fall of the year 2001, that is, just after the deadliest attack on American civilians ever recorded, an attack carried out by a novemdectet of Muslims acting according to their orthodox understanding of the very same texts — Qur’an, Hadith, Sira — that all Muslims rely on for authority. It was President George Bush who decided that, to win Muslim “trust” or to end Muslim “mistrust” — I forget which — so that we could, non-Muslim and Muslim, collaborate on defeating those “violent extremists” who had “hijacked a great religion,” started this sporadic ball unsporadically rolling. And he did what he set out to, by golly, he did. He hosted an Iftar Dinner with all the fixins. It was held just the month after the attacks on the World Trade Center, on the Pentagon, on a plane’s doomed pilots and passengers over a field in Pennsylvania.

And thus it is that, ever since 2001, we have had iftar dinner after iftar dinner. But it was not Jefferson or any other of our learned Presidents, who started this “tradition” that has been observed only “sporadically” — unless we were to count as an “iftar dinner” what was merely seen, by Jefferson, as a dinner given at a time convenient for his exotic guest.

George Bush, that profound student of history and of ideas, kept telling us, in those first few months after 9/11/2001, that as far as he was concerned, by gum, Islam was a religion of “peace and tolerance.” He and Obama agree on that. And just to prove it, by golly, he’d put on an Iftar Dinner with all the fixins. And that’s just what he did. And that’s how the long “tradition” that Sheryl Gay Stolberg, and her many vetting editors at the newspaper of comical record, The New York Times, referred to, began. It’s all of nine years old, having survived and thrived through the differently-disastrous presidencies of Bush and of Obama.

I have a request for The New York Times. It’s a most modest one. All I ask is that the editors of The New York Times apologize for that paper’s misapplication of the adjective “sporadic” in the front-page story by Sheryl Stolberg on the “Annual Iftar” dinner.

Put up, or shut up, dear newspaper of record. Tell us when that “tradition” of “Iftar Dinners” truly began. Cite those Presidents who held dinners that they considered to be “Iftar Dinners.” Give us chapter, give us verse. And if, as I believe, that hollow and recent and transparently determined-to-win-Muslim-hearts-and-minds “tradition” began only in 2001, then tell us. And since your story was on the front page, do what the lawyers do when they have to make legal announcements, and put your retraction, eat your humble pie, right on the same front page.

A failure to do so will be further, and for some the final confirmation, of the sorry record of The New York Times in its coverage of Islam. Most readers with some sense of what Islam is all about are now ready to take any coverage of the matter in The New York Times with a grain – a Pinch – of salt.

Clio, Muse of History, is a stern mistress. Subscribers to stories that live and die between editions may forget or forgive, but Mnemosyne does neither. If I were the “newspaper of record,” I’d want to propitiate not the gods, but the most vigilant and meticulous of muses. If I were Pinch Sulzberger, I’d be mortally embarrassed, and determined to make amends. But then, I have standards.

Which brings us up to today, and the glad news that. President Obama will be paying his first visit to a mosque on American soil. There will be some sort of feelgood exchange, and perhaps even a reference to the “long tradition” of Iftar dinners, or to the great contribution Muslims have made since the very beginning to our American story. No one will have the bad taste to bring up what is actually to be found in the Qur’an and Hadith. Someone may quote 2:256 and 5:32 (but not 5:33). John Quincy Adams will be passed over in silence. I can’t wait. Can you?

Obama as UN Secretary General, that is scary. I think there is a passage in the Bible that talks of a a false prophet “who will deceive many”. Will this be another end time prediction?
I understand Merkel has also been mentioned as a possibility for the top job. Again, scary.
I also understand that in the past the position of UN Secretary general has always been awarded to some obscure but capable person but not from Western Europe or the USA with the particular objective of not allowing the UN to become a de-facto world government.

The fact that Obama was born within the U.S. was already proven, among those were Bill O’Reilly on his show – The Factor. O’Reilly held up a copy of a Hawaiian newspaper from the time Obama was born with the birth announcement of Obama published within. Unless you know of someone who can travel back in time, it isn’t possible to forge that newspaper, nor the microfilm of the paper inside the Hawaiian libraries. So let’s stop hearing about Obama wasn’t born in the U.S. terrorities–it’s false.

That said, it’s clear to me and many, many others, he is much more favorable to Islam than American values or culture. And as his Cairo speech showed, he is either a sloppy researcher of history and facts, or practicing deception. When he removed pork from the menu of all federal prisons that was the smoking gun beyond a doubt for me. You can’t explain that one away at all.

You might not like him, but Obama was born in the U.S.

That’s funny, tell that to his paternal aunt, who recently opened a tourist trap in Kenya roughly called Birthplace of Barack Obama. The attraction is at the small home where auntie says he was born. Or watch the video of Michele with auntie in front of a crowd several years ago; Michele nodded in agreement as his aunt pointed to the house and proclaimed that was where he was born. Or check out the birth certificate, which has electronic layers as if created in Photoshop. A printed birth certificate is one dimensional, it can have no layers. Look at the address of the hospital, which is wrong. Notice that his records at Columbia are kept sealed at his request, many think he declared his foreign birth in his application. Or look at the author background he submitted to a publisher when peddling his first autobiographer, in which he declared he was born in Jakarta, Indonesia.

I don’t like him, and he wasn’t born in the USA. Not that it matters, for in effect we are no longer a constitutional republic, and that goes all the way back to FDR. But, most recently, about six years ago, we became a benign dictatorship with Prez Barack Hussein openly legislating from the Oval Office, which had never been done before.

You’re in denial. The facts of all this are irrefutable.

I appreciate all of your information. However, what can be done effectively by one American to do whatever to rid this country of the vermin causing the demise of America?

Letter’s don’t work. Look at all the RINO’s. Look at the apathy of the vast majority of America. We have an anti-American Muslim President trying to change the very foundation, principles and Constitutional ideology of America into a Muslim society.

Something has to be done now. Can you please tell me of one thing that one American can do to be effectual in the stopping of this trend and the beginning of the restoration of what it once was? Looking down the road if the destruction continues, will we then be saying that American’s should have gone to the streets, ridding our soil of those we are at war with. Obviously, the government knows and has even identified training centers in Sweeny, TX as well as other locations across the nation. Why wouldn’t that be a good start to wage war. The next stage would be to pray that Muslim Obama will somehow be removed quickly. I don’t know how. Just wondering if you have any ideas. Is there a legal way at all that this can be accomplished.

If there isn’t then that only leaves one option as I see it. Our main war is with our lying, destructive Muslim President. I think it would be nice if the bulk of the military would wage war against their “Commander In Chief” and put an end to his President.

Having read the many quotes by early presidents and founders of our Constitution, we are encouraged to own guns and have militias in the event we need to go to war with our own evil government if that was ever to happen. They, in their writings, not only made provision for it but encouraged it!

I fear that is what it will take. I have a heart condition. I almost died twice last year. I have other ailments but certainly others that don’t have a lot to lose would join in with some true, informed, unafraid Patriots. I am not a member of any group by the way. Just very mad, sad and frustrated and see no other answer. I am looking for a legal, but effective way, but, of course, that won’t be done by Congress. If there is not a legal way, what options to we have?

DALE, I wish to God I had an answer for you, or some good ideas. But the truth is I ask myself these same questions every day. Americans have been counting on the Republicans, but they have done very little, save for Obama’s bidding. What are they afraid of? Why won’t they help us? I do believe there will be a new civil war in America, if this Islamist infection is allowed to continue. Those who are smart will do what it takes to prepare. I hope that someone with some good, concrete suggestions will reply to you here.

There are over 3100 mosques in the US and most built after the massacre of 9/11 when G Bush embraced the enemies. Besides, last time I saw, there are 35 muslim training camps in the US ( ready to attack when the right time comes, I’m sure). I think the people of the US have been betrayed by the politicians of both parties…maybe follow the $$$ trail, they have been bribed by Saudi Arabia and other oil rich muslim nations to betray their own country. And Obama is their puppet. I’m surprised there haven’t been any movement as the Tea Party to do something about it and call spade a spade. I’m reading the book Thomas Jefferson and the Tripoli Pirates…and I am surprised that after all the knowledge of Islam that Jefferson and Adams acquired after dealing with the islamic nations in North Africa, they didn’t add any provision in the Constitution
banning islam in the US due to its principles that are totally in opposition to the freedoms of our
nation and the west for that matter. The “blind” adherence to freedom of religion is
troublesome in the light of the islamic infiltration in all sectors of America and non islamic
west. At the same token should we accept the Aztec religion which call for human sacrifice,
religions of New Zealand who calls for cannibalism to name a few under the principle of freedom of religion? Islam calls for the killing of non believers, besides other principles that are considered criminal in our culture…but you can’t talk about them in
public , it’s islamophobic. Just look at Saudi Arabia , the US close ally and the Bushes BFF, its
wahabism and how they treat their citizens. How SA sponsors terrorism ( and 9/11?) and are
building mosques throughout the world to spread islam. The betrayal of the US has been going on way before BO by the political elite and the MEM tha lies to the public that islam is a religion of peace.
Just finished reading The Truth about Mohammed, by Robert Spencer, a must read book for those who really want to know the roots of violence in islam.

If you appointed all the heads to sensitive positions such as CIA,NSA, TSA etc, you could ask for certain information on members of congress that would literally ruin them financially, their families, reputations etc if you had derogatory information such as homosexual activity, marital affairs, close association with foreign lobbyists and so on.
You could take this information and call the individuals in and present it to certain high-ranking Republicans and if they didn’t see things your way, you could leak certain information to the New York Times.
These senior Republicans who are Speakers, committee heads would certainly comply. This blackmail activity has been done before, by Adolph Hitler-and it worked!

One of the things you can do that is directly relevant to this article is join a local chapter of Act for America http://www.actforamerica.org/ and participate in work it is doing, such as “examining textbooks in local schools for bias regarding terrorism, the crusades, Israel, the treatment of women under Islam, etc.”

        Yes.

        Exactly.

Because *not all* congress critters and senators are hopeless cases… nor local sheriffs and mayors, either.

        There is Senator Tom Cotton.

There are people like Ben Carson and – way out in front in terms of his awareness of military history, including the history of Jihad – Allen West.

There are veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan who have NOT ‘gone native’, who have done as Allen West did (he served in Iraq; he read the Enemy’s book; he recognised ISlam and the Ummah as The Enemy), and who are… entering politics.

Americans must look for them and support them to the absolute hilt, financially and in every other way.

ACT for America lobbyists by now probably know exactly who they are… the people who listen, the people who have not been corrupted by Muslim petrodollars and are incorruptible. They might be sitting on what we Aussies call “the back benches”.

But they are there, and with just a few more they could form the nucleus of a renewed America.

I, an Australian, encourage every American jihadwatcher who isn’t already an ACT for America member, to sign up.

And besides reading here – read at ‘Citizen Warrior’ every now and again. You don’t have to persuade everyone.

You need a focused, committed ten percent. And I think there are a lot more than ten percent who are *already* aware or partially aware.

        Sursum corda!

The rest of us, in our various countries, have to find – or create – our own resistance networks, our own campaigns and campaigners, and try to keep on educating, educating, educating.

        And here’s an idea.

In the posted article, the inimitable Hugh Fitzgerald has quoted what one of America’s greatest statesmen, John Quincy Adams, had to say about Islam.

“The precept of the koran is, perpetual war against all who deny, that Mahomet is the prophet of God. The commands of the prophet may be performed alike, by fraud, or by force.” – JOHN QUINCY ADAMS, 1829.

Take that eminently quotable quote which pretty much sums up Everything The Well-Prepared Infidel (and, especially, the well-prepared infidel General, Diplomat, Businessman or Religious Leader) needs to know about Islam.

Set it circulating on social media. Send it to ALL your friends and family and quote it unremittingly and add, always, always, the comment that you think JQA had it to rights, you’ve read the Quran, you’ve read enough of the history, JQA *nailed it*.

        Make people *curious*.

And… make sure that you include it in *letters to your elected representatives*.

Frankly, it would make a wonderful full-page or half-page ad in a newspaper. I wonder whether they would print it, if the full reference was included?

Or… put it on a poster and stick it up on walls, especially in university campuses (add the full reference, so people can Look It Up…

Let John Quincy Adams be heard the length and breadth of the USA. His voice out of the deep past is *needed*.

          Well said.

Just wanted to add something else one can do to get personally involved at the local level, at least in America, to watchdog and litigate against leftist and Islamic agendas. Go to the Thomas More Law Center website thomasmore.org and there you’ll find along the left edge a column of links at the bottom of which is Common Core. Near the lower part of the page, you can find links to Stop Common Core groups by State. If, for example, you click on California, you get taken to Californians United Against Common Core, and you’ll see “Let us unite to fight the common core battle. Click on the “CA School Districts and Contacts link, and you can submit your name, email and school district and find the point person heading up efforts in your district as a leader against Common Core. The Thomas More Law Center has recently been in the news for filing a Federal lawsuit on behalf of a Marine Dad banned from school property after he objected to the Islamic indoctrination of his daughter.

There is a lot of apathy or complacency or simply they can’t believe Islam really is like that. ( the western folly of thinking all cultures and religions are the same ) I don’t stop. The more people that know the truth, the better chance we have of defeating Islamization of USA – we want that ‘A’ to mean America, not Arabia. Every now and then someone I eMail articles too, or talk too ‘gets’ Islam and then they want to learn more.

      ———-

…”examining textbooks in local schools for bias regarding terrorism, the crusades, Israel, the treatment of women under Islam, etc.”…

It’s important for textbooks of any kind to be factual on every subject. Textbooks aren’t perfect either though, since humans write them, so I would hope there would be good discussions/debates on the different kinds of ‘beliefs’ within Islam, as well as other religions.

In this world, I would think Comparative Religion class in High School, would be interesting.

      • Wellington says

        Feb 3, 2016 at 9:07 pm

By Islamic law, LR, Obama is a Muslim because his father was. Even if a person born of a Muslim father asserts (and let’s assume here sincerely, though I don’t accord Obama any sincerity) that they adhere to another religion (e.g., Christianity), they are still, per Islamic law, a Muslim and thus maintaining otherwise opens up such a person to charges of apostasy and deserving of death according to every major school of Islamic theology, Sunni or Shiite, to this very day. So, while Obama, in that strange, uninformed and shallow mind of his MAY consider himself a Christian, I think it important not to overlook what I wrote here.

Regarding Rezali, this is a vile human being who regularly posts here at JW a litany of misinformation and ignorance, usually accompanied by significant amounts of gloating and insults. In other words, this silly bitch is very typical of what I call “Muslimthink.” Occasionally she should be responded to, just for form’s sake and to correct her many egregious errors, but for the most part she should be ignored because she inhabits an alternative universe, actually not a universe at all but a huge black hole. (And if this decrepit human being responds specifically to my post here, I predict she will do so with a word that begins with “p.” Ah, Muslims are so predictable. It’s one of their many weaknesses that should be exploited because they are so deserving of exploitation.)

Respecting different kinds of beliefs within Islam, why should anyone give a damn? Islam is the only major religion which is totalitarian in structure and ideology, as Bertrand Russell noted almost a century ago, and thus in its ideological blueprint an enemy of liberty, and so going on about “different kinds of beliefs within Islam” makes no more sense than expostulating about different kinds of beliefs within Nazism and Marxism. Move on from this excuse masquerading as an argument.

As for textbooks, they have become dismal where the teaching of history and related subjects are concerned.. I know. I taught history for a third of a century and I can tell you that the textbooks of today are riddled with political correctness, the idiocy of multiculturalism and often don’t even make any sense many times because they are now usually done by committee rather than by one or two individuals and nothing good or great has ever been accomplished by committee. By the time I retired a few years ago, I had pretty much given up on history textbooks because they had become abysmal. I was actually forced into seeing if well written history textbooks from long ago were still available at Amazon, etc., but, alas, only a decreasing number of them were.

Your turn if you care. Your turn if you can.

Don’t overlook his other great works like his histories of England, of America and of the Jews.

For a balanced approach to American history, demonstrating its greatness as well as its faults, I would recommend Schweikart and Allen’s A Patriot’s History Of The United States. I would also recommend Howard Zinn’s extremely awful A People’s History of the United States so that you can see what kind of rot young people are being taught nowadays. Zinn basically considers America the Darth Vader of nation states. It’s full of factual errors (e.g., Zinn’s claim that unemployment went up during the Reagan presidency and that George Washington was the richest man in America) and he really doesn’t like any of the great Americans, including Washington and Lincoln. However, Zinn does like Mao and the Sandinistas, etc. But this is the kind of crap students are now being given to read so I think sensible people should familiarize themselves with such a work.

Dear Wellington: Your concern about America is very well placed. I have seen, year after year, the decline of America to a point where I no longer recognize America as the country I grew up in. Yet because of what seems to be the growing movement of “Paleoconservatism” in American ( a movement that has very little to do with contemporary Republicanism), I suspect there still might be hope.

For Europe (where I have lived for many years), there is no hope. The political correctness here in Europe is simply beyond belief, and the degree of corruption within the (the very Leftist) German government and the (the very Leftist) German media beggars the mind. People like Angela Merkel, Sigmar Gabriel, Claudia Roth and the highest echelons of German media are guilty of such blatant lies that even many “moderate” Germans now refer to the press as “die Lügen Presse”, the lying press. Much the same can be said of the governments of France, Sweden, Belgium and Britain (David Cameron and the Tories notwithstanding).

No lie, no omission, no distortion is too fantastic or repugnant to reason to inflict on the populace. Here in Europe, Islam’s victory is all but assured. But perhaps for America there is still hope and I would say to any American reading this, DO NOT let your country follow the same Leftist/Marxist multikulti path as Europe.

We are in some ways of the same mind, but differ in the matter of how to fight this growing threat.

I’m sure you remember the images of the man on his bicycle pulling a piano on his way to the memorial in Paris, this for the victims of the massacre last November. He was filmed playing songs by the Left wing pacifist John Lennon. Also visible were the hundreds of cards that read: “Pray for Paris”, “Weep for Paris”, “Cry for Paris”. My optimism disappeared when I realized there was not a single placard that read “Fight for Paris”.

As long as we in the West remain weak and timid, the forces of civilization will continue to gain ground. Fighting means just that. Conflict, struggle, sometimes even the shedding of blood. I am convinced the time is past for “dialogue”. In Europe, the only answer is armed, violent revolt against Islam.

I’m with dda, Norman, that hope should never be abandoned but I do understand that Western Europe (Eastern Europe is another matter) is in profound trouble, courtesy of modern leftism, which has, for all intents and purposes, replaced the Judeo-Christian ethic with its own ethical norms that, frankly, are stupid, rooted in emphasizing equality over freedom as they do as well as being incapable of identifying true evil.

Whatever faults a Christian Western Europe had, they were superior to the post-Christian Western Europe that now exists, tending to prove Benjamin Franklin’s sage observation that if man is bad with religion, imagine what he would be without it (with Islam the exception to this rule here—–better no religion than Islam).

The Company Grade Corps is the largest militarily Officer group, and they directly supervise the enormous Enlisted Corps. The military is likely just as concerned about the Muslim problem as you. They’re loyalty is not to Merkel, but to Germany, which is a shift in policy since Hitler.

A Head of State is powerless without the military.

Barry Soetoro is both a muslim and a Marxist; a muslim under islamic law assuming his real father was Barack Obama and a Marxist by indoctrination as a function of his many years association with Frank Marshall Davis, who is likely his REAL father. I refuse to call this Manchurian Candidate “Barack Hussein Obama” as his last known LEGAL name is Barry Soetoro; there is no available record of him legally changing his name to Obama upon his return from Indonesia where his name was legally registered as Barry Soetoro. His Indonesian stepfather Lolo Soetoro, was also a muslim and Barry spent four of the most formative years of his young life (6-10) being educated in islam and Indonesian language studies in Indonesia.

A previous commenter mentioned stated Barry is a Christian as a function of Barry’s 20-year romance with the “Reverend” Jeremiah Wright and the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago. Trinity United Church of Christ is Christian in name only. Wright preached Black liberation theology, anti-American and anti-white bigotry, and also anti-Semitism. He is also anti-Israel.

“ Wright, who began the “Ministers in Training” (MIT) program at Trinity United Church of Christ, has been a national leader in promoting theological education and the preparation of seminarians for the African-American church.[23] The church’s mission statement is based upon systematized Black liberation theology that started with the works of James Hal Cone.” From Wikipedia.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vdJB-qkfUHc

Based on Barry’s upbringing, education and associations (Davis, Wright, Saul Alinsky, Bill Ayers, Valeri Jarrett, et al) it is virtually impossible he could be anything other than what he is – a pathological lying fraud, masquerading as an American Christian constitutional lawyer. Combine all this with his primary work experience (“Community Organizing”) and one wonders what America was expecting the outcome would be of electing a fundamentally anti-American conman as President – and America did it twice. My stomach churns each time I hear the name Barack Hussein Obama and seeing his visage on TV precipitates an urge to dash to the bathroom. Eight long years of this torture is enough.

Do you think he’ll just go away somewhere at the end of his term? Have you considered that he might go on to play what will become an even bigger role in global government, like UN Sec’y Gen’l? Or some other global entity we may not be entirely aware of at this time, an entity, for example, in which banking and global corporate interests merge even more closely with government? Obama may himself empower such an entity as the UN by being the first “major figure” to assume the head of that noxious organization. And after all this fine article makes clear the truth, the NY paper and the guys claiming that it has been happening since Jefferson didn’t do it, won’t admit to the lies and fabrications and a history re-write.

If history was still a subject taught correctly, more people would appreciate John Q. Adams, his father, and others who were willing to tell the truth about the evils and lies and immorality of islam.

If islam and moslims had been in the country from the *founding*…it would be so much further along the road of lies about islam than it is. We most likely would not even know there had been the pirates and the robbing of Christian ships and anyone named John Q. Adams. Since they arrived, they have been re-writing like crazy, and though only since mid last century, they have come a long way in getting their lies accepted as truth. No need to expect the truth from any of them now. Especially as their numbers increase every day.

    J. Q. Adams would most certainly be called the first “islamophobe” by Obama and his ilk, if ever someone would dare to challenge them on that point. No question about it. Therefore J. Q. Adams’ views on Islam is today the taboo in elites circles. Thank you, Mr. FITZGERALD, for reminding us about him and others, just as a reminder and lesson of undistorted history of America, before leftists will be capable forever to erase it.

“In the seventh century of the Christian era, a wandering Arab of the lineage of Hagar, the Egyptian, combining the powers of transcendent genius, with the preternatural energy of a fanatic, and the fraudulent spirit of an impostor, proclaimed himself as a messenger from Heaven, and spread desolation and delusion over an extensive portion of the earth. Adopting from the sublime conception of the Mosaic law, the doctrine of one omnipotent God; he connected indissolubly with it, the audacious falsehood, that he was himself his prophet and apostle. Adopting from the new Revelation of Jesus, the faith and hope of immortal life, and of future retribution, he humbled it to the dust, by adapting all the rewards and sanctions of his religion to the gratification of the sexual passion. He poisoned the sources of human felicity at the fountain, by degrading the condition of the female sex, and the allowance of polygamy; and he declared undistinguishing and exterminating war, as a part of his religion, against all the rest of mankind. THE ESSENCE OF HIS DOCTRINE WAS VIOLENCE AND LUST: TO EXALT THE BRUTAL OVER THE SPIRITUAL PART OF HUMAN NATURE.”*

Interesting as it fits with the social worker / post modern ethos. (found in Marketing)
The truth is not verifiable fact it is affect. Hence it is more important for Obama to have the right influence with his words. It is the feminization of culture. Everyone with a family knows that the mother is more concerned with the feelings of the family to keep the peace.
It is interesting because this also fits perfectly with Islamic culture and the Arabic language. In Arabic, nouns do not state facts. They are part of the flow of influence of a conversation. Words are used to state power, friendship, feelings. Hence there are few book translated into Arabic.
Obama does not care about the ‘facts’ of history as there are no facts.
The scientific method that gave us western civilization is being undermined in Unis, media and the government. Preparing the way for Islam and the real Jahiliyyah (time of ignorance)

I am wondering why you think Obama is being insincere. He has been nothing if not consistent from his first appearance on the American political scene in his support for Islam. Where are any counter-indications? You might point to his alleged attendance at that execrable church (which Obama threw under the bus in early days, if you recall) with the ranting, America-hating minister, but I would argue his affinity was strictly cynical, to get votes.

Jefferson was a nascent Moslem. Western civilization owes a debt to Islam for the Renaissance. Math was invented by Moslems. All these are untrue, they are lies. Outright falsehood is at the base of the fictive reality that Islam is a benign religion, that is a religion at all. Nobody’s gonna refute these and other lies except a small percentage of intellectuals; for large public figures to refute them would require they know the truth, which they don’t, and they wouldn’t even if they did because their careers would be finished within a week of pointing out the lies as obvious falsehoods, items with no basis in fact.

JQA was in the corner for the Russians, back when they were fighting against Turkish Muslim duplicity and aggression; and he was in the corner for the Greeks, cheering loudly as they fought to free themselves of their Muslim oppressors. *That’s* something that needs to be remembered. Indeed, that quote about Islam, and the other passage a commenter here has reproduced, form part of a series of essays that John Quincy Adams wrote about 1/ the Russo-Turkish wars and 2/ the Greek war of Independence.

The first Muslim ambassador to the United States, from Tunisia, was hosted by President Jefferson, who arranged a sunset dinner for his guest because it was Ramadan

Tunisia as a country didn’t even exist in those times. From the 16th to the the end of the end of the 19th century, the area now making up the Republich of Tunisia was part of the Otoman Empire. Then it became a protectorate of France from which it gained independency in 1956.

I’m sorry to say that the historical intellect of most Americans are dependent on visuals at the silver screen rather than their local libraries.

Truth be told, such a movie if it were ever produced would seriously put a dent in the credentials of the compulsive liar that the american people put in the white house, just as the movie “13 hours” should negatively impact the former secretary of state’s attempt at presidency.

Obama spins lies with such charismatic conviction that even people who dislike him s are sucked into his vortex of deceit… Believe me it has happened to me.

So anyone out there, know anyone out there who can put together a movie telling the truth about Islam in America which would include the infamous iftar dinner, that would put an end to this lie once and for all never to be used by any future Muslim a$$ kissing President, that would be great.

Exaggeration is one thing which is a politicians forte but willful ;distortion of historic truth is another thing, And this is what Obama has done. Why? For brownie points with Muslims. With modern day left leaning media its Obama’s version of US relations with Muslims that will serve as education fodder to our children. So the lies will continue and will be accepted as truth by the next generation and allow Muslim radicalism to penetrate further into the psyche od Americana.

J and John Adam’s met with Tripoli’s ambassador to determine if the Barbary sates had any right to kidnap and slaughter the innocent crews of passing merchant ships. Here’s what Jefferson recorded):

“We took the liberty to make some inquiries concerning the Grounds of their pretentious to make war upon Nations who had done them no Injury, and observed that we considered all mankind as our friends who had done us no wrong, nor had given us any provocation.

I wish that everyone who heard his drivelling lies in that mosque would take up his suggestion, “look it up” and see for themselves that he was lying when claiming that he is “not the first” American president to be accused of being a Muslim. No, it’s not true, Jefferson was not accused of being Muslim. Barack Obama simply made that up. The truth is that Jefferson created a navy and the U.S. Marine Corp to deal with the Barbary corsairs, not get buddy with Muslims savages. The first declared war on foreign soil by the US was against the “Barbary States” Morocco, Tripoli, Tunis and Algiers. That was hardly a dinner in their honor.

John Quincy Adams said, “”The precept of perpetual war against all who deny that Mohamet is the prophet of God, the vanquished may purchase their lives by payment of the tribute, the victorious may be appeased by a false and delusive promise of peace, and the faithful follower of the prophet may submit to the imperious necessities of defeat but command to propagate the Moslem creed by the sword is always obligatory when it can be made effective, The commands of the prophet may be performed alike, by fraud or by force.” Likely he wouldn’t have them as dinner guests either.

I’d say Obama is obeying his prophet by fraud. It doesn’t matter how many times he lies about Islam. It never changes, it is the same cruel, bloodthirsty, misogynistic, pedophilic, slave-holding political system it has always been and will always be until wiped off the face of the earth.
