Saudi spokesmen made three significant – even stunning –announcements last week. The first one came from the Saudi Arabian Oil Minister Ali al-Naimi, speaking to oil company executives at a meeting in Houston. He announced that Saudi Arabia was going to break completely with its past policy, would no longer be OPEC’s swing producer, and would refuse to participate in coordinated production cuts by both OPEC and non-OPEC producers, as it had so dutifully in the past in order to keep the price of oil at an agreed-upon level. From now on, Al-Naimi made clear, the Saudis would conduct their oil policy strictly with their own bank balance in mind: “Inefficient, uneconomic producers will have to get out. This is tough to say and that’s a fact. We can coexist with $20. We don’t want to, but if we have to, we will.” For even at that price, as the lowest-cost producer, Saudi Arabia could make money. So could Saudi Arabia’s neighbors and allies, Kuwait and the Emirates. But not only would the non-OPEC producers of oil, including those who invested so much in American shale and Canadian sands, require a price of at least $60 per barrel to be profitable, but so too would many OPEC producers, including Angola, Nigeria, Venezuela. Saudi Arabia was telling the world that the OPEC model of shared cuts in supply, with the Saudis bearing the lion’s share, a model they have adhered to for nearly 45 years, was dead. For the Saudis, there would no longer be any cuts in their own production to hold up the price for other OPEC members. The Saudi oil policy was now to be only for Saudi Arabia first, last, and always.
The second stunning announcement was that Saudi Arabia has just declared Lebanon off-limits to its own citizens. For decades Beirut was one of the main playgrounds for the Saudis and other Gulf Arabs; this travel ban will be devastating to the Lebanese economy. The official reason given was “concern for the safety” of Saudi nationals. But the danger level, while considerable, is not noticeably different from what it had been a year ago, or three, or five. Why impose the ban now?
The third Saudi announcement, that they were ending the $3 billion in military aid that they had been giving to Lebanon annually, had as its proximate cause the refusal of the Lebanese government to condemn the storming of the Saudi Embassy in Teheran and the consulate in Mashhad (attacks prompted by the Saudi execution of a prominent Shi’a cleric) by Iranians, a refusal which a Saudi official described as a “confiscation of the will” of the Lebanese state by the Iran-backed Shia Hizballah movement.
Together, these two blows to the Lebanese economy reflect the Saudi belief that Hizballah has won in Lebanon, and that there is now no point in continuing to send aid to, or to support tourism in, a country that in the last few years has become part of the Shi’ite axis, one that includes Hizballah in Lebanon, Assad’s Alawites, and Saudi Arabia’s main enemy, Iran. The Saudi aid cancellation and travel ban might be interpreted as attempts to pressure the Lebanese into changing their policies, but I think it more likely that the new Saudi policy is more realistic – some might say defeatist — than that: it’s no longer a case of trying to pressure Lebanon to change. Instead, the Saudis seem to have decided to simply wash their hands of the country altogether, having recognized that Hizballah, backed by Iran, cannot now be dislodged in Lebanon, and that the once-powerful alliance of the Sunni merchant class and Maronite Christians in Lebanon is much weakened — both because the natural increase in the Shi’ite population has outstripped that of all the other groups, and because in recent years some of the Christians, too, under General Aoun, have been making common cause with Hizballah – and thus the Sunni-Maronite bloc is now both outnumbered and, more to the point, outgunned.
Saudi Arabia’s oil policy and its Lebanese policy may seem to have nothing to do with each other. But they have one important thing in common. Both are examples of that oldest of desperate remedies: Every Man For Himself. Or as it is put even more pithily by the cynical French: Sauve Qui Peut (literally: Whoever Can Should Save Himself). No longer will the Saudis sacrifice any of their production just to ensure that other producers in OPEC will be able to sell their own oil at a profit. And no longer will the Saudis continue to fund a country that they now think has no chance of throwing off its Shi’ite yoke (you will not be surprised to learn that Iran has already offered to replace some of the Saudi military aid to Lebanon). Sauve Qui Peut for Saudi Arabia means “we’re not going to waste our money in Lebanon” (though they have a lot, the Saudis also have a lot less than they expected to have before the oil market collapsed so precipitously in the last eighteen months) so as to husband its resources for other efforts. The geopolitical threat posed to Saudi Arabia from Hizballah in Lebanon is comparatively insignificant: it’s a long way from Beirut – and the road goes through Sunni Jordan – to the oil-producing, Shi’a-populated Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. Where might those other places be for which Saudi resources need to be husbanded? Hint: in what country, that shares a very long and porous border with Saudi Arabia, is the Sunni-Shi’a divide even more pronounced than it is in Lebanon? If you answered “Iraq,” you get one point. If you answered “Yemen,” you get two points. If you are able to explain why you would get more points for “Yemen” than for “Iraq,” you get three points. Be sure to show your work.

This is good news for those who want an inartificial price of oil.
Western countries should concurrently establish a viable alternate transportation fuel to end the House of Saud’s financing of international terrorism.
Wahhabism exported by the House of Saud is the source of most of our troubles.
Next, Western powers must realize the need to deprogram Muslims.
Don McKellar says
“Next, Western powers must realize the need to deprogram Muslims.”
You obviously have no idea how insane you sound making a proposal like that.
Demsci says
Mortimer, you focus on deprogramming, I on programming. Granted, programming has a long way to go.
But as I see it, subconsciously you prescribe to some vague, opague concept of “normalcy”, what seems normal to you for the majority in our countries, in regard to our democratic, and I suppose Judeo-Christian history and culture, I don’t know, but somehow a “normalcy”.
You see Islam or big parts of it, interpreted by big part of Muslims, as NEGATIVE DEVIATION from that normalcy.
And presently you want to REDUCE (deprogramme) that Negative Deviation (Islam-parts).
The other way of thinking involves a different view of “normalcy”; namely that of a “normal situation in the world” including “agressive supremacist anti-democratic …. religions, ideologies”.
And that we practice formulating and being proud of our own ideology; Say “Democratic ideology”. We do have 5 pillars for it, you know; Fair elections, freedom of speech, autonomy of the individual, separation of church and state, constitutional state” And we have the division of powers in 3 (Trias Politica). Something to be soooo proud of.
We can see Muslims as LACKING in OUR IDEOLOGY and try to PROGRAMME (not deprogramme) them!
It could be a lot more work and thinking, and it might not work, but that is the positive approach. Do you see the difference?
خَليفة says
We could ban Mosques in western countries, not recognize Islam as a legitimate religion, call it what it is, a political cult based on pagan gods. This will tell Muslims their ideology is not welcome here ( Japan does something this and Muslims don’t complain )
Next we can bomb the Kabba and destroy it completely to prove to Muslims Allah won’t protect it.
Next, we ( the civilized people ) tell Muslim countries they have to sign the universal declaration of human rights, put in into law on paper AND in practice. Otherwise we ( the civilized people ) will not allow any trade, no food, no products, no resources, no services, no travel. And deport the citizens of countries which don’t sign and abide by it.
This move by SA shows the inherent weakness in Islamic core values and shows why Islam will never effectively control the world. They will murder and rape countless victims, but never achieve their goal.
Here is an interesting read from 1999.

Demsci says
But our own “culture” is and I think should be, based on democratic principles. Which the Islamic culture is not. And I and many feel our own culture to be better than the Islamic one, that nonetheless somehow threathens our own.
But being democratic our patriots will or should never act as decisively as you propose without a proper majority in parliament. Without that we too would have become a minority-ruled dictatorship.
And we know it is almost impossible to get a majority for proposals like yours.
However, what we can do is carefully formulate our own core-principles and promote those worldwide, in recognition of: Us still having fierce competition from Islam. – Our belief, drive, motivation is that we have the better political system and lifestyle and why.
Probably Islam got it’s chance and success much due to the weakening, through catastrophic diseases and wars and more, of the Byzantine and Persian empires, and we must admit due to a few strengths of it’s own.
Let in future something better and stronger than Islam vanguish it! For the benefit of mankind! Well, we can figure out and promote all that is BETTER THAN ISLAM, can’t we?
Demsci says
As I admitted, I don’t know Islam so much, let alone why it is such a strong beliefsystem, it has 23 % or so of mankind in it’s thrall, and there are supposed to be 56 (out of 193 or so) countries! Hijabs are ubiquitous on the planet, even in much of the West.
I build on “positive psychology, POSIPSY”. When we rightly get alarmed by an onslaught of something that is a threat to our way of living reactions in the old way as shown here are fine with me, but POSIPSY also then tries to define a BETTER ALTERNATIVE. In this case something BETTER THAN ISLAM, in spiritual lifestyle + political system, and promote that.
I believe in all Democracy can be, in some spiritual lifestyle better than Islam’s, up to the choice of people,
but for me it is some kind of church for atheists (yes, this already exists). I also like it when humans apply technology to become healthier, longer living; this is presented by Transhumanism.
And then there is the drive for more happiness, among others by Positive Psychologists, many groups, even some governments.
Sam Harris, whom I admire very much, wrote a book about the possible moral and spiritual foundation of atheists and it was primarily about promoting happiness and longevity for humans.
Demsci says
Thanks for courtesy of answering, it’s a pleasure. I agree totally with that old saying.
My OPINION: I tried to figure out what was actually better than Islam and came up with the full democratic system. Posipsy came up with a positive lifestyle that detailed not only pleasure, but also meaning in life and engagement for a worthy cause.
And the drive for happiness is a worthy cause and in summary a better alternative to Islam.
Also, Science discovers far more and higher truths than Islam does.
I do admit to hesitating to call something absolute truth, but I still endeavour to search for the highest truths eternally and make valid COMPARISONS and reach good choices.
With all the courage I can muster I stand FOR the mentioned specific choices.

eduardo odraude says
Demsci, the main reason today that Islam has so many adherents is the death penalty for apostasy combined with the claim that Allah will torture you in hell for eternity if you quit Islam. .
If one could make the death penalty and other severe penalties for apostasy inoperative, Islam would lose most of its adherents within a fairly short time. Most people are sheep and brainwashed, and at first apostates would be a minority. But apostasy would spread more and more, undermining the sleep of the Islamic sheep, When the Berlin Wall came down, and with it compulsion failed, communism rapidly collapsed. If Cubans were not trapped in Cuba by oceans, 95% of the Cuban population would soon abandon Cuba and Cuban communism.
Demsci says
To Eduardo Odraude: I see those 2 reasons as very true, I too, as a Christian, once was very concerned about my afterlife and so dare not leave Christianity.
And yes, the deathpenalty for apostasy is prohibitive. And rather unique to Islam.
But …. is that the end of the reasons for Islam’s success? And it’s consolidation?
Perhaps the fact that it is something the Muslims are knowingly and united (yes, they are still more united than divided) FOR!!!
(even because of indoctrination, emotional blackmail, coercion) and we are AGAINST!!
without us knowing or uniting behind what we ourselves are FOR??
Seeing that we ourselves do not unite behind some common Most Important Guiding Texts as they do? Seeing as their females EN MASSE dress distinctively through the Hijab?
Another point; by Muslims Non-Muslims are classified as being Kuffars, essentially as people LACKING, namely faith and the reward of afterlife, something Muslims POSSESS.
What if much of this were turned around? I mean; If Democratic Citizens, united behind a confederacy of positive lifestyles, thereby searching for happiness, searching for truth through science, and blessed with their own Very Important Guiding Texts ….
Could describe Muslims as the people LACKING! Lacking the positive lifestyle, meaningful search for happiness, highest detectable truths, much better guiding texts (than the stupid 7th century Quran)?
What if such Democratic citizens, being FOR something BETTER THAN ISLAM, called the Muslims the Kuffars, being contra that BETTER-THAN-ISLAM-ideology?!
gravenimage says
Demsci, almost *anything* is better than Islam, save a few horrific ideologies that are nearly as bad–Nazism and Stalinism are about the only things comparable.
There are all sorts of appalling political systems that are *still* superior to Islam.
Western democracy is not just superior to Islam–it is *much* superior to that foul creed.
Demsci says
Hi Gravenimage, rest assured I read and am educated by your regular posts. And I was surprised you showed us your historical credentials, including having studied Al Ghazali. You know what you write about. And I intend to be educated here.
Gravenimage, I do not talk about one single judgement after comparion. In this case; which culture is better?
I talk about the supposed 50.000 thoughts we humans have per day.
Are we to waste them on that “foul creed”, as you say?
From Positive Psychology and others I learned or adopted that the mind does not operate well with the word NOT. For instance, if it get’s the instruction: Do NOT think of a white bear, it still wants to think of a White Bear!
And in a wider context; YES, Robert Spencer and posters here react in an excellent way to encroaching Islam! (If it kept to itself we would not be reacting so fiercely I suppose).
But people like me are fine with that but want MORE.
We want to dedicate our thoughts to BETTER-THAN-ISLAM-thoughts. Pick anything you want, we say, but PROMOTE something meaningfull, worthy, effective as COMPETITOR to 1,57 billion Islam.
Do not only stay ABI; Anything But Islam. In that is no promotion, construction. In that is only DIMINISHING the enemy, or REDUCING the NEGATIVE DEVIATION that Islam is. We want to PROMOTE the Positive Exception that Democracy is!
And with true Democratic citizens I do not mean “Democratic voters or politicians in America” by the way. But I mean conscious knowledgeable enthousiasts for the whole democratic system with it.
Nimrod says
I don’t know where people get this idea that there’s some sort of natural morality that someone will have even if raised by wolves, and they just need to be deprogrammed of the false morality of religion or something.
What people in the west think of as “natural” moral behavior is actually Christianity+theology+philosophy that has built up over the years and worked its way into the culture. Even atheists are effectively Christian if their enculturated in a Christian country, though they will end up with significantly more post-modern philosophy than usual. Deny the supernatural etiology, deny the theology, deny the philosophy all they want but the underlying beliefs and assumptions they learned automatically via social cognition they will seldom find in their brains or learn the origin of.
In the Muslim world, Islamic barbarism is what seems “natural” which is why they talk about “reverting” to Islam. Of course to them it’s not barbarism, it’s just normal stuff like honor killing, wife beating, jihad violence, say whatever to get whatever regardless of verifiable truth, and do whatever you can get away with. Hey, it’s just normal stuff so bow to the Kaaba five times a day and hope Allah will send you to paradise when you die.

Here’s a theory.
If there is a Shi’a belt running from Syria to Iran it would cut off Saudi Arabia from overland trade routes. If Yemen becomes Iranian / Shi’a controlled, Saudi Arabian shipping will be cut off from the global market through blockades in the Strait of Hormuz and Bab al Mandab, the strait between Yemen and Djibouti. Both are straits, or choke points, that can be utilized to control shipping. If that be the case, Iran will have control over oil production in the middle east and therefore have much influence over the global oil market.
Don McKellar says
Probably Iranian leadership has this as their fantasy plan. Hopefully they plan on trying to carry it out. An all out war between Sunni and Shia in the Middle East (which will be the result) is like a gift to the advanced, modern world — and especially America. Of course, for that gift to be enjoyed by Europe, they’re going to have to shut down their borders and throw out all those moslem colonists. Then such a war would be a dream come true with the two major tentacles of the black octopus battling each other and throwing away billions in resources and sucking in even more jihadis who are right now infesting countries with superior civilizations, like so much lice.
MKG says
I concur Don, unfortunately Iran’s fantasy plan may become Russia’s reality.

Time for China to sell more DF-21 missiles to Saudi Arabia. The Arab countries like Saudi Arabia are already signing massive trade deals and investment with Asian nations like China, India, Indonesia, and South Korea. The future of the Saudi oil market is in Asia and they already sell most of their oil in Asian markets and buy products from Asian countries. Saudi Arabia already has a long standing weapons trade with China and has bought nuclear capable missles from China. China is investing in Saudi Arabia’s nuclear energy program.
In pre modern times most of the Gulf Arabs trade was with India and Southeast Asia. Not the west. The UAE opened the first Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi and is expanding trade ties with India.
Low oil prices will continue to rape the American shale oil industry.
The future arms sellers and oil consumers are all Asian countries. Go ahead and refuse to deal with them, the Asian countries will keep the Arab economies and militaries afloat. There is a massive Arab diaspora in Southeast asian countries.
Westman says
Rezali,
There are folks suggesting, like yourself, that Turkey(Erdogan) will purposefully initiate a conflict between NATO and Russia that will grow into WW3. Many also worried that Israel would star a war between the US and Iran.
Don’t get your hopes up. The Russia-Ukraine conflict has shown that it is about as likely as finding a Hijab in a BBQ restaurant.
The Saudis are in a classic cash-flow squeeze in which the debts and funding commitments cannot be met by “swinging” to a lower oil production. It is truly sauve qui peut replacing suave et riche.
Saudi Arabia is now following the Japanese model of selling into a market, at or below cost, to drive out the competitors and capture the market. This worked for decades in autos and electronics until other asian countries followed the same model.
If anything, this strategy, and the oil market instability that it creates, will give more impetus for the West to move away from oil. It might be good for consumers but is an anathema for investors.

Tons of foreign Muslims are allowed to visit China and Gulf Arab countries are allowed to fund projects and Mosques in China like a new Mosque in Ningxia which was named after the UAE ruler. China has more Mosques per Muslims than some Middle Eastern countries. There are more Mosques in Bejing than Moscow while it has less Muslims than Moscow. Its only Uyghurs who aren’t allowed religious schools and get restrictions because committing terrorism gets your rights revoked.

The truth is that pious Muslims never consider anyone an ally–certainly, she does not consider the Russians to be so. Instead, Muslims see everyone–including their own fellow Muslims–as slaves, as conquerors, or as the conquered. Repulsive.

It seemed fanciful in the old Bond movies where a private entity could launch missiles to any place on earth and now it is becoming reality.
Iran is purposefully steering its people away from Mecca and toward Kabala; suspending the hajj after the Saudi execution of a Shiite cleric.

Is all this a result of the new leadership in KSA. The war in Yemen is an example. I wonder how much of new policy in Lebanon has to do with internal Saudi politics. I get the feeling it is a bit like USA, where internal power jostling is played out by overseas ventures.
You have got me thinking about the flow on effects of the low oil price. I note airlines are going berserk trying to get people to commit to airfares right now.

Heh, at 20 dollars a barrel we’ll just leave our hydrocarbons in the ground, leasing fracking equipment is cheap, and pretty fast.
When Saudi Barbaria runs out of oil, ours will still be there.
John Johness says
Nice: the Omanis have a similar plan. When I asked about the gold that is so obviously there ( from the geology) an Omani said that the Sultan has decided to leave it in the ground until they need it.
It seems a good time to consolidate and improve quality instead of the madness of competitive obsolescence. Produce goods that are repairable and valued.
Perhaps the Saudis are doing us all a favor!

Sunnis and Shia cut from the same cloth – they both worship prophet paedophile and are united in their hatred of the kafir, besides loathing each other. That is Islam, boundless hate and misery. Both Sunni and Shia condemn the west but the shameless bastards cry and beg to be let in; immediately after being allowed in, they show their true parasitic, destructive, greedy, vile manner. If you hate the west so much, stay the fuck away. Have some self respect. God wlling the bastards will annihilate each other in a Sunni-Shia war, and we can all sigh with relief and celebrate.
As for muslims making such easy tools for foreign powers to pick up and discard, I would be cautious since the foreign powers keep hammering their thumbs. With Muslims, a hands-off approach is best.

Sunnis and Shia cut from the same cloth –
No Mr Singh ….we are not
The Sunni will go to ANY lengths to forego the tiniest shia victory … that simple won’t do for them.
ISlam is coming tyo the West …you need to decide whether it is the moderates (like you keep reminding us in Syria …or the truly moderate .. the shia.

Classic Rezali Mehil–in two short sentences we have whining, gloating Muslim supremacism, and bald-faced Taqiyya.
As for those screaming “Death to America!”, “Death to Britain!”, and “Death to Israel!” being “moderates”, this is just laughable.
What she is really saying is that our conquest by Mohammedan hordes is inevitable–but that victims though we are, we can help her out by converting to Shia Islam.
Note that she never bothers to tell us what we would have to gain from that.
More:
It is not YOU who decides whether we muslims come and remain in the West …nor is it Jesus (aka ISA PBUH) or any of the lesser Prophets (PBUHs’).
It is Allah SWT and only Allah SWT.
…………………………………
In other words, ‘Resistance is Futile’. This is what supremacist Muslims *always* want us to believe. Never mind that we have beaten Muslims back when in a more dire position than we find ourselves in today. Muslims had completely conquered Spain, Portugal, southern France, Sicily, southern Italy, Greece, and the Balkans when we drove them out. Israel was also under the Muslim heel; today she is free.
So *of course* she councils surrender–she is terrified that Muslims won’t be able to beat a superior people is we don’t surrender–and in this she is quite right.

Interesting.
I observe that our resident east asian mohammedan – who like every mohammedan who has ever infested this forum *cannot* resist the temptation to *insult* infidel posters – appears to want us to see China as nicely subservient to the mohammedan agenda or at least as allied with and promoting the ummah.
And, of course, he makes a really vicious swipe at the *Christians* in China… who in fact outnumber Muslims substantially – one conservative estimate for the number of Christians (of all varieties, registered and unregistered churches, Catholic and Protestant) in China stands at something like about 100 million whereas the estimate for Muslims is about 25 million – so Christians outnumber Muslims significantly (and are not restricted to any one ethnic group) and the estimated *rate of increase* of the Christians is faster than that of the Muslims and depends primarily on conversion rather than birthrate) and are NOT intending to overthrow the government (that slanderous claim , along with the claim that the churches are funded form outside – ridiculous! – is very typically mohammedan reversal of reality).
He will of course throw another shower of sand at me.
I don’t care.
He’s a Mohammedan and therefore on principle I do not trust a word that he utters. He belongs to the Father of Lies.

Well done, DDA!
The Chinese (nor the Indians, Russians, South Americans, Eskimos, etc.) will not trust Muslms, either. They are not stupid, they see what is happening in the ME and Europe.

Vegemite muncher thinks its physically possible for a country to repress a certain religion or ethnicity 24/7 and operate on people’s whims with absolutely no rule of law. I got a bridge to sell to you in Nigeria.
China has affirmative action specifically for minority groups who get reservations for jobs, extra points on university entrance exams, special economic loans, and indigenous language schools.
I counted many people from China and Russia coming to this site and posting on how all your dumb impressions that they are some sort of totalitarian holes which can freely crush minorities are wrong but your eyes and ears are shut as ever.
Ask any western tourist whose been to Ningxia, to visit one of the Islamic schools or Mosques or visit Minzu University in Beijing which is reseved for ethnic minorities like Tibetans, no matter how low they score in their primary and secondary school grades, the system automatically bumps them up and reserves them a seat just because they are a minority. In fact there are videos online in youtube of graduations from Islamic schools in China.
Religion correlates very much to ethnic identity in many countries. Converts to a certain religion assimilate into the ethnic group which practices that religion. Go look at your own western missionaries writings on Islam in China in the 19th century. They themselves were suprised that there was no mass proselytizing going on. They repeat an adage that man is fated to die in the religion in which he is born.
People don’t view things like speaking in tongues and rolling around on the floor as something normal.

Thank you. Your comments inspired me to do some research, and I did learn some things, but it did not convince me that Islam is a religion of peace, anywhere.
Where ever it is there is invasive turmoil (and has been since it began), despite some Muslims being peaceful people. I am sure that is what the Americans killed in San Bernardino thought about their Muslim co-workers and “friends” while they gave them parties in their honor.
How can one determine the peaceful ones when the basic texts of Islam, and its model human, Muhammad, are/were not peaceful?
I did learn that you may munch Vegemite, if you wish, because it is halal.

Cutting off oil purchases from any islamic country, is vital. Unfortunately, there is enough corruption in enough of the oil majors, that it will not be possible. The only way that islamic blood oil could be taken off the market, would be if it was seeded with radioactive isotopes, with half lifes of several hundred years…. Easy to identify, and rather dangerous. Good by islamic blood oil, good by islam.
We all wish.
