Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

Belgium: Imams refuse to pray for the souls of the non-Muslim victims of Brussels jihad massacre

Mar 29, 2016 9:02 am By Robert Spencer

“It is not for the Prophet and those who have believed to ask forgiveness for the polytheists, even if they were relatives, after it has become clear to them that they are companions of Hellfire.” (Qur’an 9:113)

“There has already been for you an excellent pattern in Abraham and those with him, when they said to their people, ‘Indeed, we are disassociated from you and from whatever you worship other than Allah. We have denied you, and there has appeared between us and you animosity and hatred forever until you believe in Allah alone’ except for the saying of Abraham to his father, ‘I will surely ask forgiveness for you, but I have not for you anything against Allah. Our Lord, upon You we have relied, and to You we have returned, and to You is the destination.” (Qur’an 60:4) This means that Abraham is an “excellent pattern,” someone to be imitated, when he says that there is “between us and you animosity and hatred forever until you believe in Allah alone,” but Abraham is not an excellent pattern, and not to be imitated, when he says he will pray that Allah forgive them.

“Belgian Imams Refuse to Pray for Souls of Non-Muslim Victims of Brussels Attacks,” MEMRI, March 26, 2016:

According to the UAE-based Al-Ghad Al-Arabi TV channel, the council of Belgian imams rejected a recent initiative to pray for the souls of the victims of the Brussels terror attacks on the grounds that praying for non-Muslims ran counter to Islamic law. In the report, which aired on March 26, Sheikh Abdelhadi Sewif, Chief Imam of the Great Mosque of Brussels, said that one could get around this by avoiding the word “prayer” and calling it a show of solidarity with the families.

Following are excerpts

Voice of reporter: Once again, Belgian mosques find themselves in the midst of a controversy, following an initiative by an official institution to hold a prayer for the souls of the victims of the Brussels attacks. This initiative was rejected by the council of imams, on the grounds that this runs counter to the Islamic shari’a,and that such a prayer can be held only for the souls of Muslims.

Sheikh Abdelhadi Sewif, imam of the Great Mosque of Brussels: We cannot pray over the souls of non-Muslims, but if we do this, we don’t have to call it a prayer. We can call it something else: “solidarity with the families of the victims.” We can stand by them and support them.

[…]

Imam Mohammad Ghali: There is disagreement about this among the scholars and the public. [Some] say that it is prohibited to pray for the souls of non-Muslims. But since this was a general event, in which Muslims as well as non-Muslims [were hurt], we address all of the victims, and wish them peace, mercy, and health.

Too true but don’t point that truth out to those who believe in interfaith dialogue you might, hopefully, hurt their feelings and cause them to start doubting that interfaith dialogue works.

‘Dead end’ just about sums it up, as the victims of the Brussels and all the other Islamic atricities have found. By the way, I wouldn’t want the ‘prayers’ of a Muslim contaminating the memory of any deceased relative of mine.

      Interfaith/islam oxymoron

      • Westman says

        Apr 10, 2016 at 10:54 am

Christian: “I will pray for you.”

        Muslim: ” I won’t pray for you.”

Christian: “You may marry my daughter.”

Muslim: “You may not marry my daughter.”

Christian: “I will forgive and turn the other cheek, 70 times 7.”

Muslim: “An eye for an eye, including death for perceived insult.”

Christian: “I must obey civil law.”

Muslim: “I only obey civil law when overseen. Shari’a is the only law.”

Christian: “I must be productive and contribute to my city and nation.”

Muslim: “I belong only to the Ummah. I must be productive enough to fill the gaps not provided by the jizya I can extract from infidels.”

Christian: “Please don’t give up the faith, but if you do we will pray for you.”

Muslim: “If you leave Islam, I must kill you.”

Bishop McManus and The Pope are such wise men. There is so much in common between Christianity and Islam that interfaith dialogue can’t fail to bring world peace.

No Christian, and I suspect no one else, wishes to have a *prayer* said to satan for them.
satan is not “The Hearer of prayer” as that title and Position belongs to the True God of Heaven.

Anyone and everyone should be pleased as punch that this worshipper of satan is not praying for them.
There won’t be any answers anyway and to have one’s name on his lips…gross would describe the experience of a family member hearing him say it.

If Brussel’s Grand Mosque Imam don’t have enough compassion to pray

for his belgians fellows , maybe he should leave Belgium and follow his book else-

    where like in Saudi Arabia.

    Gospel says : « Love your ennemies.» Coran says : « Fight your ennemies.»

Well , he is congruent with his book. We have to be congruent too: Please leave , mr. Imam.

Go where the sun is bright for you .

    • TamIAm says

      Mar 29, 2016 at 11:40 am

Yeah, the Gospels also specifically say to pray for the souls of your enemies, those who persecute you. What kind of God would tell His disciples NOT to even pray for the souls of their enemies? Obviously, we’re all human beings with souls and are all capable of good and evil so a good God would want us to at-least pray that all of his creation be saved and find the right way and be good. He might want us to condemn or fight evil deeds but he would want all of His people to be redeemed. There’s no way a good God would specifically instruct his followers NOT to pray for their enemies. It’s ridiculous!

      • Adrian Johnson says

        Mar 30, 2016 at 6:49 am

Proof if anyone doubted it that the false god Allah is not the God of Christians: the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. God said to Abraham that his name always and forever was “YHWH” which means “I am who I am” {BEING PERSONIFIED} so he cannot contradict Himself and say to pedophile Mohammed “My name is Allah”

Anybody says muslims and Christians worship the same God is ignorant and deluded. “Ecumenism” is wasted on Muslims, however they dissemble– which is permitted by their Koran. They do not compromise, and Christians worthy of the name do not compromise– so what point is there in trying to find common ground ? Wasted effort on the part of Christians.
Muslims in the West use democratic processes to embed and take over society and introduce Sharia law (eventually for non-Muslims as well as Muslims), like the sneaking cuckoo invades the nests of other birds, to out-reproduce and supplant them.

Just a little exploration would tell them the truth. They don’t want to know, they are wrong about supporting bloodthirsty enemies of democracy.

  8. Kepha says

    Mar 29, 2016 at 9:47 am

I’m sorry, but this is a complete and utter non-issue for Uncle Kepha. If this sort of thing (along with eating halal meat and women wearing a hijab) were the sum total of Islam’s differences with the rest of us, it would neither pick my pocket nor break my leg. Jihad is the issue with me.

As a Protestant, I do not pray for the souls of the dead either; nor do other conscientious Protestants. A tree lies as it falls. The unrepentant and unbelieving in Hell are beyond the help of our prayers; the saints in Heaven have no need of them, even if they may well be petitioning the Almighty for those of us still here (I certainly plan to do so). We may legitimately hope for many that there are unseen operations of the Holy Spirit on their souls prior to their departure; we may also joyously remember what a departed saint left behind. But we neither pray for nor to the dead. More importantly, we pray for the survivors, for our neighbors, and many beyond our range of vision that they may be made heirs of salvation whenever we pray “Thy kingdom come”.

I understand that R. Ovadia Yusuf, a major Mizrahi rabbi in Israel, once said that Gentiles would be no better than slaves of the Jews in the ‘Olam HaBa. Big fat hairy deal. The practice of Judaism doesn’t involve a state of perpetual war on those of us who believe M’Shiach has already come; nor on those who are outside the Abrahamic tradition, apart from the nations of Canaan, which were exterminated long before our time.

Members of the Buddhist sangha can also have some pretty nasty views about us ignoramuses who don’t follow the Eightfold Path–even Daoists and Confucians; to say nothing of us Christians.

Evolutionary Materialists think me a pitiful hanger-on of a foolish historical epiphenomenon (may have lost something in translation); some of them may even wish to hasten my going on to the ash-heap of history, while some others may take a more live-and-let-live approach. I can live with the latter category if they truly mean it, even if I will argue with them.

However, the whole rationale for this blog is that jihad against the rest of us is an important part of Islamic theology. The role of jihad is the whole reason I like this blog.

Kepha, I appreciate your comment, and second it. And as a Jewess, I am sorry to hear that Rav Ovadia Yosef said that.

      • Kepha says

        Mar 29, 2016 at 4:56 pm

Thanks, Debbie. Frankly, I don’t see why you need to apologize on behalf of Rav Ovadia Yusef. I just pulled him out as an example of someone who may actually look down on me but who isn’t out to kill me. Seriously, if people aren’t out to rob me, kill me, or deprive me of civil rights via lawfare, I can live with their poor opinions about me. While I’m all for everyone converting to my brand of Christianity, I can’t very well expect them to behave like my sect while they are still outside, can I?

I’m more offended by the evolutionary materialists who see me as a pitiful clinger to outmoded historical epiphenomena who would like to silence me (now that, for the time being, they can’t kill me). And I am especially offended by Muslims who want to blow me up.

Kepha, I like your attitude, you sound like fun. Yes I too get annoyed with condescending, pseudo-intellectual atheists; however I am patient and look forward to the panicked look on their faces when I see them in the next life, as they stand before their Creator-judge and realize they were seriously wrong about the nature of reality 🙂
I am a Texan Catholic who will turn the other cheek up to a point if somebody insults me, but if they try to kill me I will simply thank God I live in a -right-to-carry-state and have the Christian and Texan right to self-defense. Christians can be pacifists if they want to, but it’s not a requirement, or part of the Catholic tradition. Our only duty is not to hate our enemies if we are forced to kill them in self defense.
I would pray for the soul of any Muslim out on armed jehad who crossed my path. And if he killed me first, I would have the Christian duty to forgive him for the sake of my own salvation and in hopes of his later repentance and conversion to the Christian faith. Heads I would win if I killed a Muslim before he killed me; and Tails I would win if he killed me and made me a Martyr for my faith. *Smug-face* (not, because I would also have to be humble if I was to be a saint. (And you wondered why Texas doesn’t have any canonized Catholic saints? It’s because Texans are so excellent it it is hard for them to be humble. . . 🙂

  10. Kepha says

    Mar 29, 2016 at 10:12 am

I strongly suspect that the initiative for such interfaith ‘prayers from the dead” came from Social Democratic pols who thought all clergy ought to be post-Vatican II Roman Catholic good-hearted nebbishes ready to compromise everything for which their forbears might have died. They’re akin to some of my colleagues in the swindle of American public secondary social studies teaching who fiercely and angrily demand that my Evangelicalism “simply has to be” European Roman Catholicism at its most post-Napoleonic defensive.

@Paul Oberman: To your proposal that all mosques be shut down for practicing religious discrimination, I propose all university faculties of philosophy, history, and “Edgy-kashun” dominated by evolutionary materialism be shut down for ideological discrimination. While we’re at it, ban motherhood because I don’t think there’s a healthy human mother alive who’s going to treat a child from another family as the equal of her own offspring (they have enough trouble being fair-minded with adoptees and children from their husbands’ prior marriages as it is). That’s discrimination, too. Ban marriage, for I don’t think there’s a healthy husband who’s also loving and loyal to his wife who treats all women as her equal (goes for wives for their husbands, too, lest I be accused of being the patriarchalist sexist that I am). Then again, I guess organized perversion is doing it’s damnedest (a word I don’t use lightly) to abolish the family.

This being said, all of us do a lot of discriminating, for better or for worse. If we believe in liberty for free exercise of religion, political opinion, philosophic orientation, speech, and the media, we’d better accept that some are going to discriminate against us in thought, word, and deed. If the deeds are limited to things like refusal to pray for my soul after I’m dead (and I’m sure there are Roman and Constantinopolitan clergy who won’t do that for Uncle Kepha, too; and dead certain that a number of evolutionary materialists who won’t, either), or refusing me communion in certain churches, or declaring that I am a companion of Hellfire (while abstaining from hurrying me thither), it’s time we apply the “it neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg” rule.

    AWKWARD situation

Doesn’t anyone feel sorry for those poor embarrassed imams?

I can only imagine how embarrassing it would be for them to stand up in front of a large crowd and pray for Souls of Non-Muslim Victims after giving sermons condoning rape of unveiled women and gleefully condemning non-Muslims to suffer the torments of hell.

Of course the imams will insist to be invited to toss out a few ‘Alahu akbars’ as a sign of their “solidarity” (with killers) and will insist that any Christian service be called an interfaith service with Muslims in full clown suits in prominent attendance so as if to deny anything to do with Islam.

This offers an interesting contrast with Judaism’s practices. When the Temple was in existence, 70 sacrifices were offered during the 7 days of Sukkot on behalf of the metaphorical 70 nations of humanity mentioned in Genesis.

King Solomon, among others, offered a dedication pray on behalf of the nations of the world when he dedicated the First Temple.

Jews are encouraged to offer prayers on behalf of the righteous non-Jews who keep the seven basic commandments common to all humanity.

Non-Jews were allowed to bring offerings to the sanctuary in Jerusalem.

In the Messianic era, all nations of the Earth will come to a realization of the one God, but will NOT be required to “convert” to Judaism.

Islam’ very nature seems to inculcate intolerance, totalitarian thought, and basic inhumanity.
