“So many times I passed by these locations. Why do they hate us so much?” asked Franziska Brantner, a German Green MP and former member of the European Parliament, on Twitter (about the attacks in Brussels).
Do you remember Michael Scheuer, that obsessively anti-Israel former “bin Laden desk” expert at the C.I.A., who used to declare that “they hate us [America] because of our policies in supporting Israel and propping up the Al-Saud and invading Iraq”? Or others who said that “they hate us because of our intervention in Libya”? Or still others who said “they hate us because we supported (!) Assad” or “we supported the Houthis in Yemen” or “we supported Mubarak” or “we abandoned Mubarak”? Or those who said “they hate us because ….(fill in your favorite reason here – anything at all will do, as long as you don’t mention Islam).
In a longer list of answers to “why they hate us,” Scheuer provided a half-dozen reasons:
- U.S. support for apostate, corrupt, and tyrannical Muslim governments.
- U.S. and other Western troops on the Arabian Peninsula.
- U.S. support for Israel that keeps Palestinians in the Israelis’ thrall.
- U.S. pressure on Arab energy producers to keep oil prices low.
- U.S. occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan.
- U.S. support for Russia, India, and China against their Muslim militants.
This implausible laundry list becomes even more comical if the “U.S.” is replaced by “Belgium,” for any of Scheuer’s reasons – i.e., there never was a Belgian “occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan,” nor Belgian “troops on the Arabian peninsula,” nor any Belgian “pressure on Arab energy producers,” and so on. And if one were to try to explain Muslim terrorist attacks outside the West, say in India or the Philippines, the inadequacy of his “reasons” becomes still more apparent — try substituting the “Philippines” or “Nigeria” for the “U.S.” and then read that list out loud.
And of course Scheuer has a lot of company. Those who still ask that “why do they hate us so much?” question have one thing in common: they will never accept the perfectly obvious answer – “they hate us because we are not Muslims, and will not submit to Islam” – the answer that has been true for some 1350 years. This is the hate that we find throughout the Qur’an and Sunnah, a hate that does not need any particular prompting to exist, and that is just as adamantly directed against the most sober Amish horse-and-buggy farmer or Orthodox Jew walking to shul as it is against the most debauched admirer of Miley Cyrus or the Kardashian crew. “They hate us so much” because we are Infidels who have not yet succumbed, either by “reverting” to Islam, or by agreeing to be treated as dhimmis, paying Muslims for the privilege of staying alive while being allowed to observe our own faith, if we qualify as “People of the Book” (Christians and Jews).
“Why do they hate us so much?”
The bombs went off in Brussels as they had previously in Paris and Madrid and Moscow and London, and dozens of other cities around the world, many of them outside the West (in India, the Philippines, Thailand, Burma, Mali, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Sudan). That omnidirectional hatred that prompted all those bombs and guns is drummed into Muslims from an early age, in the canonical texts that matter. Not every last Muslim may end up subscribing to that hate, but enough of them do so that it is not unreasonable to conclude that “they hate us” because that’s what they are taught to do.
Islam is on the march in Europe. The political and media elites whose duty it is to protect and instruct the peoples of Europe have failed those to whom they owed that responsibility. Instead, they have allowed what by now must surely be many millions of Muslims to settle deep within Europe, behind what Muslims themselves are taught to regard as enemy lines, the lines of Dar al-Harb, and the European elites just don’t know how to talk about the problem, where to begin. Can someone who has been part of the political class, in and out of power during the last few dismal decades, in any European country, dare now to admit that “they hate us, I finally realize, because we are Infidels — and I helped let them in”? Don’t be silly.

Mr. Scheuer missed the sole cause of hatred of the United States: the video critical of Islam seen by three people. What difference does anything he mentioned make?
gravenimage says
Yes, absurd.
The main reason America is so hated, of course, is simply because she is the most powerful Infidel nation, and that she–however inconsistently–occasionally makes efforts to protect against Jihad terror. That’s enough as far as Muslims are concerned.
Myxlplik says
A non-Muslim believing that they have control over Muslim hate for them is like wading into the ocean on low tide, thinking that you can block the tide from going to high.
Remember, Muslims begged us for decades to rid them of Saddam, and begged us for the “Arab Spring” to rid them of colonial dictators. Now they say they hate us for what they begged us for.
The only thing we need to know is that Islam makes Muslims hate, and plan accordingly.
خَليفة says
Well stated.

So true, Myxlplik.
And we were only–very briefly, at that–in the Arabian peninsula because Saudi Arabia had asked for protection against Saddam Hussein. The idea that we were somehow invading the “Kingdom of the Two Holy Places” so we could defile it with our Infidel presence is just ludicrous–especially considering the levels of dhimmitude we were willing to endure in order not to “offend” the very Muslims who begged for our help.
All of this grievance-mongering is just a fig leaf for intrinsic Islamic hatred of the Kuffar.
Demsci says
Quite right. An “independent person” might say; OK, irrespective of perpetrator and rescued and victims, we try to describe what foreign policies of nations are beneficial, detrimental or useless.
But the Muslim way seems to be; we KNOW whatever the USA does, it is bad, we go from there! And the political corrects mimick them.
Example; USA should not have removed Saddam and Ghadaffi, their countries were veritable stable havens, when they ruled?! And look at them now!
But, when USA does NOT INTERFERE in Syria, it get’s all the flack of “how cynical it is, and how bad because of not interfering.
Prejudice and propaganda rule the Muslim world, not to mention denial of all and every own responsibility of Muslims. Well, I call it the innocence of children, apes and the insane.

Yes. Jihad is all the fault of the US and the rest of the West–no matter what they do.
Of course, some actions are wiser than others, no doubt–but this basic argument is false.
It is just more blaming of the West–like supposed “Islamophobia” or lack of opportunity for Muslims or the War on Terror or any other matter–that holds that all Jihad terror is actually the fault of the victims. Ugly *and* false.
Emilie Green says
Islam is really quite simple to understand. The world is divided into 2 parts: Dar al-Islam and Dar al-Harab.
If you’re in the first part, you might be okay unless some other occupant of that part doesn’t think you’re Islamic enough.
If you’re in the second part, you haven’t got a chance. Dar al-Harab doesn’t translate to House of War for no idle reason.

On the one hand, it is supposed to be a religion of peace that preaches equality and justice for all, while on the other, it is hardly possible to escape the sight of the most unspeakable acts of violence being committed by individuals and groups in its name.
To make the situation more confusing, there is no shortage of ‘experts’—Eastern and Western—who tell us that Islamic terror is an aberration that has nothing to do with the ‘true’ Islam.
It is fair to say that a majority of the people in the world has swallowed this explanation while remaining
ambivalent about Muslims and their behavior.
http://indiafacts.org/revisiting-a-classic-the-calcutta-quran-petition-book-review/
In the book under review, Sita Ram Goel, one of the world’s most incisive students of Islam, blows away this confusion by giving an unvarnished, scholarly yet highly readable account of the theory and practice of Islam.
By a detailed analysis of its scripture and history, he explodes the charade that Islamic terror can somehow be separated from its teachings. In the process, the prolific and erudite Mr. Goel has probably written his masterpiece.
To return to the confused state of knowledge about Islam, there has long been a need – more urgent today than ever before – for a work that can explain the theory and practice of Islam for the average reader. This void is now effectively filled by the book under review – ‘The Calcutta Quran Petition’ by Sita Ram Goel///

I would suggest starting your study in 622 A.D. With the Hijra, the Battle of Badr, the assassination of poets critical of Muhammad, and Muhammad’s conquest of the Jews of Medina in which he exiled the Qaynuqa and Nadir Jewish tribes, and beheaded the adult male members of the Qurayza while also enslaving their women and children, and then went north of Medina To conquer the Jews of Khaybar, Wadi al-Qur’a, Fadak, and Taima (all of this took place between 622 and 628 A.D.). Read my book, Muhammad and the Birth of Islamic Supremacism: The War With The Jews 622-628, to learn more about the beginning of the hatred toward infidels. Check it out on Amazon.com if interested.

The GRIEVANCE THEORY about Islam is a model from political science 101.
It ignores the religious, textual basis of the Islamic grievance, because most of the poli-sci elitists want to appear clever and have been taught to look only for political or economic ‘GRIEVANCES’ as the ‘real’ explanation and minimize such matters as culture and religion as motivators. The study of Islam is complex and time-consuming, so the poli-sci elitists can’t be bothered with that boring stuff.
Practically all poli-sci elitists are religiously ILLITERATE about Islam, and yet, they preposterously promote themselves as EXPERTS on Islam. They unashamedly spout twaddle about Islam!
These puffed-up, unprepared stuffed shirts arrogantly explain Islam to us without having completed even the MINIMAL, BASIC READING LIST ON POLITICAL ISLAM that would give them the expertise to do so.
Western political elites have not read the Koran, Sira or hadiths or canonical commentaries, and yet, want us to take their word about something they haven’t even read once.
To the Western elitists, I say: DO THE READING BEFORE OPENING YOUR MOUTH ABOUT ISLAM. MOST OF YOU HAVEN’T THE SMALLEST IDEA. HAVE YOU NO SHAME?
Jack Diamond says
They actually can’t imagine people, educated people, smart people, taking religion seriously, so seriously as it would be their actual motivation. Yet Muslims have contributed NOTHING to humanity! Everything from electricity to computers and flush toilets came from the West! In my mind they should not be enjoying these things. Indeed, the hate is not a mystery and is not hiding; on the contrary, it is evident on almost every page.

Michael Scheuer’s familiarity with Islamic doctrine and scripture, however, seems rather thin.
Jack Diamond says
Draw your own conclusions: “Israel is such an enormous detriment to the United States. Our relationship with the Israelis. That it’s going to become clear to the Americans that this is just going to cost us blood and lives the longer we pursue this relationship with the Israelis.” Michael Scheuer, Glenn Beck Show 2011
“… the young men who bombed Boston… their activities are a response to our support for the Saudi tyranny, our invasion of Iraq, our support for the Israelis.” Scheuer Fox News 4/24/13
“I carry no case for the Israeli relationship–I think it is a terrible relationship for America. The public opinion of the Muslim world is deeply hateful towards Israel. If you are going to satisfy the public in this new secular age of democracy you hare going to have to be anti-Israeli and probably allow your people to help the Palestinians.” Scheuer, Middle East Quarterly 2013
Scheuer had a debate with Raymond Ibrahim in 2008 concerning whether jihadis like bin Laden were motivated primarily by reasons of Islam or from grievances about American foreign policy (Scheuer’s position). Ibrahim: “At any rate, in his response to me, Mr. Scheuer continues to ignore al-Qaeda’s straightforward, hate-infidels-for-being-infidels quotes (which, incidentally, are what the debate is all about). Instead, he writes:
(Scheuer): “In this highly selective collection (The Al Qaeda Reader), Mr. Ibrahim picks and chooses from the enormous corpus of writings, statements, and interviews by bin Laden and al-Zawahiri to produce a slim volume which he claims will once and for all prove that al-Qaeda and its allies are bent on imposing a worldwide Caliphate to be governed by what the Necons are pleased to call Islamo-fascism.”
Hugh in 2005: “Think, for example, of that simpleton Michael Scheuer, who was actually put in charge of something called the “Bin Laden” desk, and who knows nothing, absolutely nothing, about Islam. What’s more, he appears to be touched by the same pathological view of “Jewish power” which, by now, we all recognize not as something merely unpleasant, or deplorable, but nowadays, as in the 1930s, given the nature of the enemy, renders Scheuer and others like him positive security risks.”

This is what leftards “think” about democracy: that it’s the embodiment of might-makes-right mob rule. And subjective opinions always trump objective facts (which to them don’t really exist,) and so such “facts” can always be changed by a majority vote.
So if the criminal gangsters (muslims) outnumber their intended victims in a certain area, it’s always our democratic duty to support the criminals.
The criminal G W Bush pretended to “think” in the same way, which is why he insisted we create the “Arab Spring” to bring “democracy” (but not the Rule of Law) to these backwards, barbaric countries by force.
Pong says
Hitler came to power by demicratic means. Democracy leads to a mob rule, corruption and retardation of people. The main problem with democracy is “one person – one vote”. For a society to continue to develop economically, culturally and scientifically it has to change that system.
It is inconceivable that a law abiding citizen, paying taxes, having children and, as a result, has concerns about the future, has the same political power as someone without all of it. Polititians and short sited business leaders import uninformed voters and cheap labour as a result of such a democracy.
If nothing is done about this democratic system, we eventually will go down in all aspects of the things, which make a country free and prosperous.

Muslims hated Westerners in 632AD. Were we Americans at fault then, too (even if there was no America)? They conquered and killed or converted those Spaniard and Portuguese for 800 years till the Christians overthrew them. How about Muslims, the Abu Sayyaf, hating other Philippinos in 1903 and 1910 killing many non-Muslim Philippinos till Gen. Jack Pershing had to crush them twice? How about Muslims hating Americans in 1802 when they captured and enslaved the sailors on the USS Philadelphia in the Mediterranean for 2 years till courageous ineffable Lt. William Eaton of the Navy (and Marines) marched across the desert with soldiers for 2 years to defeat the ruler of the North African country then called Tripoli. When the 1st city in Tripoli fell to the Eaton and our Marines the Muslim ruler accepted Pres. Jefferson’s offer for ransom. (It took 6 months for Jefferson to hear that the city, Tobruk, had fallen to Eaton. By then the ransom was paid. The sailors had been freed. Some had died in slavery. A few converted—convert or die just like today’s edict of the ISIS or Iberia in 700AD.) There are dozens more cases of Muslims hating us. Those cases run back 1400 years.

1: non-muslims are bad, (allegedly because they insult allah by dividing his nature*);
2: muslims are good, (allegedly because to them allah is the cause of everything*);
3: Allah made them both like that;
4: So muslims should chop off the non-muslims’ heads.
(“Allah could have done it himself, but he wants you muslims to do it for him”).
…
It’s all right there, in context: islamic violence is entirely general doctrine-driven, and not at all specific grievance-driven.
(And chapter 47 isn’t by any stretch even remotely the worst, most violent chapter; that honor goes to either chapter 8 or 9).
So don’t go looking for what actions of yours may have offended or provoked them; they have been taught from birth that your existence alone offends their god, and so should offend them.
Muslims have been officiallly taught to believe that they are the “best of people” (Qur’an 3:110) and that unbelievers are the “most vile of created beings” (Qur’an 98:6).

*[Soon shall We cast terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers, for that they joined companions with Allah, for which He had sent no authority: their abode will be the Fire: And evil is the home of the wrong-doers! (3:151)].

Has anyone noticed a very big irony around here?
The Left has for so long thrown the epithet “racist” at so many of us with careless abandon. Yet it also has a myth of “historyless” peoples. These are the peoples who supposedly contribute nothing to the dialectical progress of history, this “progress” understood as movement towards socialism–as if the Chinese didn’t invent the paper on which Marx and Lenin wrote. It should be obvious that this concept of “historyless peoples” covers a fundamental racism at the heart of the Socialist vision (to say nothing of a refusal to recognize the socialist ideologue’s own intellectual limitations).
The idea that all Muslim hatred of the West can be traced to Western actions (whether Crusades, support for Israel, or military presence in Islamic lands) is a part of this myth of the “historyless” peoples. It is preposterouss to assume that peoples who have been writing in Arabic, Farsi, Osmanli Turkish, Urdu, and other languages for more than a millennium are “historyless”, and do not have their own currents of thought and traditions of discourse that may influence how they perceive the world and act on such perceptions.
They thought the same about the Chinese Communists, who synthesized China’s own tradition of millennia-old self-consciousness and amour propre with Marxist mythology–supposing that the only reason why Mao hated us was because off what the incredible, anointed “WE” did rather than because of a number of choices Mao himself made. We’re making the same mistaken assumptions about swathes of the Islamic world now.

Great point, Kepha.

Very good point, Kepha.
Perhaps in a way contributable to this anthropologist; Franz Boas, in the 1930’s. In a culture which indeed “held the other cultures responsible” he and followers persuaded eventually large swathes of Westerners to “hold their own culture responsible” but part of them then seemed to “hold ONLY our own culture responsible” or so it seems.
Meaning either that the other “culture, people” either are A. Sane adult people, but historyless and truly innocent.
or B. Not responsible for their own attitude and actions, like it is also inconceivable that we hold primitive people, children and animals responsible for their actions”. This is the racism of different expectations for different peoples, or cultures. As Ayaan Hirsi Ali pointed out.

It is amazing that some of the posts on this blog have sentences like: “I have a moslem friend… “

Thank you for your comment. Unfortunatly, such statement is beyond my intellectual level, so I congratulate you without a further comment.
