Islamic State vows to punish anyone celebrating ‘spring festivals’ with 20 lashes

Mar 21, 2016 9:49 am By Robert Spencer

“Allah did not create man so that he could have fun. The aim of creation was for mankind to be put to the test through hardship and prayer. An Islamic regime must be serious in every field. There are no jokes in Islam. There is no humor in Islam. There is no fun in Islam. There can be no fun and joy in whatever is serious.” — Ayatollah Khomeini

Mamouri added, “ISIS prohibited all forms of celebrations in its strongholds,” indicating that, “ISIS deployed the so-called Islamic police to monitor the implementation of the prohibition decrees.”

      Indeed. Our Lord, God, and Savior Jesus Christ said, “I have come that you may have joy, and that your joy may be full.”

      He also promised us, “Your joy no man shall take from you.”

        Islam on the other hand, is Satan´s created cult to spread misery, darkness and death through the World.

        Jesus also loved a good joke:

          ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
          Precisely, Graven. “jan aage” is spreading lies–again.
          Notice that “jan aage” only provides verse 34, from Matthew 10, and not the remainder of the passage: 35 & 36, which gives the context of Jesus’ statement. So “jan aage” is deliberately lying by taking what Jesus said out-of-context …
          Matthew 10:34-36:
          34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
          35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
          36 And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household.
          ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

          Additionally, we can better understand what Jesus meant by the “sword” from this verse:

          Hebrews 4:12:

          “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”

          Also, for a better understanding of what Jesus meant here’s an excellent essay from CARM:

          Did Jesus come to bring peace or not?

          https://carm.org/did-jesus-come-to-bring-peace-or-not

          What could be more human than a good joke and a healthy laugh? This human side of the nature of God is completely absent in Islam. This alone makes Islam inhuman.

          Champ, but not my champ.

          You sound like the blind elderly monk in Umberto Eco’s novel “The name of the rose” – Jorge de Burgos. And this Christian fundamentalist sounds like an echo of ayatollah Khomenei when it comes to joy, humor and laughter in the religion.

          We may pretend that I am William of Baskerville, an early humanist, rationalist and liberal theologian, and we enter into a heated debate over laughter in Christianity.

          Jorge puts forward an imperative: that man should not see himself as a “laughing animal.” The main premise of the scholastic argument is put forth: if man is made in the image of the Christian God, who he imitates, then he cannot laugh. He claims that, based on Scripture, one can clearly see that “Christ did not laugh.” Laughter is beneath him. It is too physical, animalic, and sinful.

          You claim the same as Jorge based on an interpretation of Scripture, and I put forward a different interpretation giving place for laughter precisely because man is made in the image of the Christian God, and we can laugh. So logically Jesus as both man and God also laughed and told jokes.

          We don’t solve this difference of opinions by you calling me a lair, and I calling you an imbecile and a fundamentalist without any sense of humor and understanding of the human condition.

          Honestly I think there is no way to reconcile our different opinions. We think within two different paradigms just like Christians and Muslims do on a larger scale.

          I won’t necessarily call you a liar, Jan, but I will call you someone who makes a pointless point. In other words, I am calling you dense.

          BTW, I am no Christian but that passage in the NT is not indicative of Jesus joking but rather of him speaking metaphorically. The fact that you could see what Jesus said as a joke says more about you than you realize.

          How do you determine if a passage in NT is Jesus speaking metaphorically or just joking?

          By divine revelation, or do you just go with the majority as a good democrat?

          I go with Martin Luther who said “We are all priests”, and with the Quran, 2:256: “Let there be no compulsion in religion” – a great joke some Muslims appreciate.

          Hi Wellington,

          You’re right, Jesus is not cracking a joke, at all, in Matthew 10; as “jan aage” contends. But I maintain that she is a liar, and that she knows perfectly well what Jesus meant in that passage. She is only playing games here, and she’s posted this comment before in an effort to do just as Graven pointed out:

          “Once again, the vile Jan Aage Jeppesen is pretending Jesus was violent, just like the sanguinary ‘Prophet’ of Islam.”

          Or, if “jan aage” is as you said: dense, then she’s dense beyond all measure, and you are merely being kind by calling her that. So if she’s truly *that* dense, then perhaps she needs to be institutionalized, because no one could be that dense, not unless they’re completely nuts.

          And I honesly don’t think that “jan aage” is nuts. I still think that she’s a liar, and I’ll add “game player”, as well.

          Take care!

          More from Jan Aage Jeppesen:

          Of course Jesus did not advocate violence, he was joking. I prefer to laugh with Jesus not of Jesus.
          ……………………….

          This was not a joke, nor was it a call for violence, as is made clear in the rest of the passage Champ posted.

          All it means is that those believing in Jesus have to be prepared for opposition and sometimes even violence *from others*.

          There is indeed a great deal of joy in Christianity, but Jesus was not getting yoks here.

          More rot:

          Champ, but not my champ.

          You sound like the blind elderly monk in Umberto Eco’s novel “The name of the rose” – Jorge de Burgos. And this Christian fundamentalist sounds like an echo of ayatollah Khomenei when it comes to joy, humor and laughter in the religion.
          ……………………….

          What utter rot. Champ has never claimed that Christianity is humorless–still less that others should be punished for exhibiting joy and humor.

          All she was doing was providing further information. No surprise this poster was unable to profit from it, or even understand it.

          More:

          You claim the same as Jorge based on an interpretation of Scripture, and I put forward a different interpretation giving place for laughter precisely because man is made in the image of the Christian God, and we can laugh. So logically Jesus as both man and God also laughed and told jokes.
          ……………………….

          Champ claimed *no such thing*. She was merely pointing out that the specific quote cited by poster is not itself a joke.

          Champ has, in fact, pointed out how joyful Christianity is compared with Islam–she does that below, in fact, on this very thread.

          Or maybe ICH is just dense like me?

          So the question is now: Did Jesus laugh?

          If so then there is a short leap to Jesus himself telling jokes.

          What is the dogmatic or politically correct answer to this essential question?

          And you wrote:

          “So logically Jesus as both man and God also laughed and told jokes.”

          Yes–I wholly agree!

          And of course Jesus was *not* “joking” around in Matthew 10, but “jan aage” fully knows this, and here’s why …

          Recently she has left this *same* Bible verse on other threads, and with the express purpose of trying to convince readers that Jesus promoted violence, as well, and that Christianity is *just* as violent as islam. On those other threads she NEVER stated that Jesus was “joking”, not until now. Now when it serves her to further the lies and silly games she’s playing. But this time I decided to point out that she’s taking the words of Jesus out-of-context, and then she *conveniently* claims that Jesus was joking? Right. Looks like the joke is on her.

          Take care!

          More nonsense …

          Now “jan aage” is trying to wiggle out of the mess she made, with her initial comment, by changing the subject and the conversation. In her initial comment she quoted Jesus in Matthew 10. And now she’s shifting the topic to, did Jesus laugh? Wow am I in the Twilight Zone? No! She just thinks she’s being clever, but she’s NOT.

          Could you name me, Jan, one serious biblical scholar or historian who thought Jesus was engaging in humor with the passage you cited as opposed to speaking metaphorically——and in a serious, non-humorous, vein? I have never come across such an “argument” as you have put forward here by any respectable historian or biblical scholar, for instance Father Joseph Grispino or Michael Grant. But perhaps in your expansive and knowledgeable way you know of one or more. Please enlighten me. Oh yes, do so.

          As for your Martin Luther reference, surely you know that Luther did not mean by that statement of his that one opinion of the Bible is just as good as another, no matter who is proffering it. Rather, he meant to convey that an informed person could disagree with another informed person about certain passages in the Bible.

          Memo to you: You don’t qualify as an informed person. Actually, not even close. Sorry to disappoint you here but sometimes the truth hurts.

        • Jan Aage Jeppesen says

          Mar 21, 2016 at 11:05 pm

          Wellington

          Memo to you: Someone with a great sense of humor is supposed to have said:

          “Do not judge so that you will not be judged. “For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you.…”

          Was he an ill-informed person or just joking? I think he was joking for we all judge each other all the time, its human nature as you and the Champ are prime examples of. I will not blame you for that, but when you claim to know the truth in religious matters I really must laugh. Religion is about subjective truths, and such truths can neither be proved nor disproved. You can believe in them or reject them that’s all.

          As a rationalist and an agnostic I assumed you knew the difference between objective facts and subjective beliefs, so here you disappoint me.

          So now you will reject my subjective interpretation of Matt 10:34 if I cannot produce “one serious biblical scholar or historian” who interpreted it like I did. The argument from authority is a funny one especially in this context. As you may know all scholars have been proven wrong, that’s in the very nature of using the scientific method. So that would prove nothing.

          Instead I can give you a reference to Father Daniel J. Harrington, professor of New Testament at Boston College, who are able to read the Gospels in the same way I do. He agrees that there is a lot of humor in NT and said that “Humor is very culture bound. The Gospels have a lot of controversy stories and honor-shame situations. I suspect that the early readers found these stories hilarious, whereas we in a very different social setting miss the point entirely.”

          I think you and Champ miss the point entirely.

          I found a soulmate in a Christian, Toni Shuma, who tried to answer this question:

          Did Jesus Christ ever make a joke? If yes, what was it? If not, why not?
          He wrote:

          “For someone in first-century Palestine, the premise (or “setup” as a comic would say) was probably more amusing than the punch line. “The parables were amusing in their exaggeration or hyperbole,” Amy-Jill Levine, a New Testament scholar at Vanderbilt University, said in an interview. “The idea that a mustard seed would have sprouted into a big bush that birds would build their nests in would be humorous.”

          People in Jesus’ day would probably have laughed at many of his intentionally funny illustrations: for example, the idea that someone would have lit a lamp and put it under a basket, or that a person would have built a house on sand or that a father would give a child stones instead of bread.

          But contemporary Christians may be missing the humor that Jesus intended and that his audience understood.

          Other amusing examples I can think of off the top of my head are “the blind leading the blind”, the servant who owes his master a lifetime of wages & is forgiven but then immediately after comes down hard on his friend who owes him 5 bucks, burying money in the parable of the talents, the “wise steward” who starts making deals with his friends when he knows he’s about to be fired, the woman who searches all over her house for a lost coin, comparing religious hypocrisy to cleaning the outside of a cup, but leaving the inside unwashed, or to a freshly painted tombstone – beautiful on the outside, but dead on the inside etc.”

          Let me quote another soul spirited with humor:

          “Why do church services seem so devoid of humor?

          Why are religious people so often (fairly) characterized as gloomy?

          In short, when, why and how were joy, humor and laughter removed from religion?

          There are several theories about why humor may not be valued as it should be in religious circles. But ultimately, joy, humor and laughter are spiritual gifts that we ignore at our own peril.

          Much of Jesus’ earthly life and ministry were about joy. But as the Quaker author Elton Trueblood points out in The Humor of Christ, because of the need to explain the suffering of Jesus, the sad parts can overwhelm the happy parts. The Gospel of John admits, “Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book.” In other words, the absence of many stories about Jesus joking or laughing is not proof that they did not occur. Most likely, Jesus laughed. To deny this is to turn Jesus into a wooden stick.

          To put it another way: What kind of a person has zero sense of humor? That’s a robot, not a person. Yet that’s the kind of one-sided image that many Christians have of Jesus. It shows up both in books and sermons and in artwork. And it has an effect on the way Christians live their lives.

          Jesus must have been a clever, witty and even funny man. His humor nearly leaps off the page in some of His highly original parables in His zippy asides to the Roman authorities, in His tart replies to the scribes and the Pharisees and even in His off-the-cuff remarks. If we look at His human side, it’s hard to imagine someone being able to put up with the often spectacularly obtuse disciples without a sense of humor. If we look at His divine side, it’s hard to imagine God not smiling at some of the absurdities of the world.

          So let us set aside the notion that Jesus was a humorless, grim-faced, dour, unsmiling prude. Let’s begin to recover His humor and, in the process, His full humanity.

          Adapted from BETWEEN HEAVEN AND MIRTH (2011) by James Martin.”

          So maybe you should read some other books and consider the possibility that you could be wrong in this matter. I do so all the time. 😉

          Aside, Jan, from the specific passage in question, Matthew 10:34, where I find no humor, especially if one reads this passage in context by continuing through verse 39, I think you and others are straining to find humor in the NT. May I suggest Michael Grant’s “Jesus: An Historian’s Review of the Gospels” for a scholar’s take on what Jesus was really up to. Hint: there was nothing funny about it.

        Didn’t Jesus say when you pray to go in to your room and close the door?

        I think he said this because he wanted the prayer to be from the heart, not from public pressure, or where anyone not bowing down is “watched”.

        Not to mention the recent murder of the teen who failed to show up for Friday prayers. In free countries, it is your choice to go to pray in public, not a compulsion. Hey, I thought there was no compulsion in religion.

I wanna laugh at people who say that islam will never “win.” ha! they already have! Look at the effect the muslim faith has already had with the mass murder of our people and other costly, destabilizing consequences!

    Islam is a dark-hearted cult of death and gloom. For that reason alone we should eschew its presence. Now throw in 9/11 on top of 1400 years of murder and bigotry for allah and tell me that’s good for America and western culture. Then do the civilized world a favor–shoot yourself in the head.

    If there is no fun in Islam, cryin’ must be OK. But since there’s no cryin’ in baseball, ISIS might as well cancel that too. Caught playing, 20 bashes with your bat.

    “Allah did not create man so that he could have fun. The aim of creation was for mankind to be put to the test through hardship and prayer. An Islamic regime must be serious in every field. There are no jokes in Islam. There is no humor in Islam. There is no fun in Islam. There can be no fun and joy in whatever is serious.” — Ayatollah Khomeini

    allah is such a killjoy …

    However the one true God, Jesus Christ, is NOT!

    Psalm 150:1-6

    1 Praise ye the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power.

    2 Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness.

    3 Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp.

    4 Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs.

    5 Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals.

    6 Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord.

        Got “moral equivalency” much?

        Christianity doesn’t teach violence, but islam certainly does. Things that make you go, hmmm …

        • Jan Aage Jeppesen says

          Mar 22, 2016 at 9:09 am

          Christianity teaches whatever you like it to teach. It teach do not turn the other cheek but go to holy war – called a Crusade – against the Muslims when self-defense is called for. Then fighting is the will of God.

          Now Christianity teaches to love Islam and Muslims and preach interfaith dialogue and understanding.

          Religions are not only man made; they are also opportunistic as man himself is; In order to survive. And what is made by man can be changed by man.

          Islam less so because the words of Allah are eternally true and cannot be changed by man. Here is no turning the other cheek, no brotherly love, but a dictum to make war against the unbelievers until Islam rule all the world.

          Islam less so because the words of Allah are eternally true and cannot be changed by man. Here is no turning the other cheek, no brotherly love, but a dictum to make war against the unbelievers until Islam rule all the world.”

          And you, Jan, who do you say Allah is?

        • Richard says

          Mar 23, 2016 at 3:56 am

          Keys, I don’t know what Jan Agee Jepperson says Allah is, but the Quran clearly admits that Allah is Muhammad. (Or Muhammad is Allah if you will.)

          In 21 verses the Quran repeatedly exhorts Muslims to obey Muhammad (verses 3:32; 3:132; 4:13; 4:59; 4:69; 4:80; 5:92; 8:1; 8:20; 8:46; 9:71; 24:47; 24:51; 24:52; 24:54; 24:56; 33:33; 47:33; 49:14; 58:13; and 64:12).

          Allah NEVER in the Quran tells believers to obey him without ALSO telling them, in the same breath (sentence) to obey Muhammad.

          However in one verse (24:56), he forgets, (that is Muhammad forgets) to tell the believers to obey “Allah” and merely tells them to obey Muhammad in order to receive “mercy” from “Allah”.

          In verse 8.1 he tells Muslims, the spoils of war are for Allah and Muhammad and they should obey Muhammad (in other words not dispute that the spoils of war are for Allah/Muhammad).

          Why does the supposed creator of the universe need the spoils of war (specifically war carried out by Muhammad and his followers)?

          Apparently this “Allah”, (the supposed creator of the Universe) is as covetous and desirous of sex slaves and wealth captured by the Muslims, from non-Muslims, as the Muslims themselves. And he couldn’t have them without their efforts, (apparently because they belong to the unbelievers and hence beyond the power of Allah- that is Muhammad).

          If this does not reveal that Muhammad is Allah and vice-versa then the person reading it is either very gullible or very stupid.

        Uh….That’s not a hymn. That’s a popular song from the Second World War.

        “Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition,
        Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition,
        Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition and we’ll all go free.
        Yes, the sky pilot said it,
        You gotta give him credit,
        For a son of a gun of a gunner was he.
        Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition,
        Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition,
        Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition,
        And we’ll all go free.”

        Written by Frank Loesser in 1942

        I don’t suppose anyone would care to describe this song as a parable meaning something entirely different like was done over the biblical verse above directing followers to slaughter their mother, father, mother-in-law with a sword as was done above. What other meaning could it possibly have. Sometime a cigar is just a cigar.

          And this is a perfect opportunity to recommend one of Robert Spencer’s books …

          “Religion of Peace?: Why Christianity Is and Islam Isn’t”

          Christianity or Islam: which is the real “religion of peace”?
          Almost any liberal pundit will tell you that there’s a religion bent on destroying our Constitution, stripping us of our liberties, and imposing religious rule on the U.S. And that religion is . . .Christianity! About Islam, however, the Left is silent–except to claim a moral equivalence between the two: if Islam has terrorists today, that’s nothing compared to the Crusades, inquisitions, and religious wars in Christianity’s past.

          But is this true? Are conservative Christians really more of a threat to free societies than Islamic jihadists? Is the Bible really “just as violent” as the Qur’an? Is Christianity’s history really as bloodstained as Islam’s? In Religion of Peace? Why Christianity Is and Islam Isn’t, New York Times bestselling author Robert Spencer not only refutes such charges, but also explains why Americans and Europeans must regain an appreciation of our Christian heritage if we ever hope to defeat Islamic supremacism. In this eye opening work, Spencer reveals:

          * The fundamental differences between Islamic and Christian teachings about warfare against other religions: “Love your enemies” vs. “Be ruthless to the unbelievers”

          * The myth of Western immorality and Islamic puritanism and why the Islamic world is less moral than the West

          * Why the Islamic world has never developed the distinction between religious and secular law that is inherent in Christianity

          * Why Christianity has always embraced reason–and Islam has always rejected it

          * Why the most determined enemies of Western civilization may not be the jihadists at all, but the leftists who fear their churchgoing neighbors more than Islamic terrorists

          * Why Jews, Christians, and peoples of other faiths (or no faith) are equally at risk from militant Islam

          Spencer writes not to proselytize, but to state a fact: Christianity is a true “religion of peace,” and on it Western civilization stands. If we are not to perish under Islam’s religion of the sword–with its more than 100 million active jihadists seeking to impose sharia law–we had better defend our own civilization.

    Islamic State vows to punish anyone celebrating ‘spring festivals’ with 20 lashes
    ………………………..

    This likely includes Nowruz–Persian New Year often celebrated in Iraq as well as Iran, and by Sunni as well as the hated Shia and Christians–and of course Easter, celebrated by any Christians who have been unable to flee the hideous Islamic State. It would, no doubt, include Passover, except that Jews were driven out long since.

    Last estimates–in 2013–for the remaining Jewish population in Iraq was *5* souls. Most of the remaining Jews in Syria were quietly rescued from the city of Aleppo by Israel in October of last year. Estimates are that there are now *18* Jews in the entire country, I don’t believe any of the remaining Jews in Iraq or Syria have wound up in territory taken by the Islamic State. If they did, they would almost certainly be immediately executed.

    As noted by many other posters, there is no fun or joy in Islam. No wonder pious Muslims think of nothing but death–their own and their victims’.

    Spring is the most beautiful season – a logical time to celebrate the New Year. Nowrus has been a holiday for thousands of years. I hope someday all the peoples that celebrate springtime with the new year are able to liberate themselves from the shackles of islam. The entire Earth will then rejoice.

    I wonder if the shiit side of islam (bit of a contradiction there Ivan, as all islam is shit but the counter-jihad warrior will get our drift) will bear the brunt of this ISIS punishment policy if they do a little Ashura celebration, from time-to-time. Double jeopardy scenario – A good shiit will get an additional shit kicking for kicking the shit out of himself.

    The possibilities are endless. This scenario springs to mind. American boots-on-the-ground management arranges for a shit-load of fanatical shiits to assemble to do a public Ashura shit kicking and then while they whip the shit out of themselves, concurrently invites ISIS over for coffee and biscuits. ISIS dudes go berserk at the public celebration of shit kicking and adds an additional 20 lashes for having so much fun kicking the shit out of themselves. Oh, the joy!

    With a little practice, management then engages ESPN to broadcast the festivities and in time we will have a public spectacle (pay-at-the-gate), similar to the Gladiatorial games of ancient times, with all muzz kicking the shit out of each other for our enjoyment. Eventually we expand to Olympic or World Cup type and size of venue and action. I knew moslims had a use.

    Easter is a celebration of the Spring Equinox, the first reference to which was Babylonian in 2400 BCE. Many pagan religions had a god who died and was reborn. The word “Easter” itself is derived from the Anglo-Saxon lunar goddess, Eostre Additionally, consorts of the god Osiris or Dionysus are depicted as dying and being reborn.
