Will Pope Francis, who has proclaimed that “authentic Islam and the proper reading of the Koran are opposed to every form of violence,” reprimand Carreira? Catholic bishops today — such as, in the U.S., Robert McManus, Jaime Soto, and Kevin Farrell, but including the entire U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops — are determined to silence every voice that speaks honestly about the Muslim persecution of Christians and why that persecution is happening. They’re much more concerned about enforcing the iron dogma that Islam is a Religion of Peace than they are about actually teaching the contents of the Catholic Faith. So will Carreira be publicly rebuked? Defrocked? Excommunicated?
“Jesuit Manuel Carreia [sic]: ‘Islam, the Worst Plague the Human Race Has EverSeen [sic],'” Eponymous Flower, April 26, 2016 (thanks to David):
(Madrid) the famous astrophysicist and Jesuit, Father Manuel Carreira, has said “Islam, the worst plague that the human race has ever seen.”
In an interview Carreira had indirectly responded to a discussion on West Germany and said that one could not plausibly claim that “Islam is compatible with the rights of a European nation”.
Astrophysicist and Jesuit
The Spaniard Manuel Maria Carreira Verez SJ became famous mainly as an astrophysicist, but also as a philosopher and theologian. Since 1974 he is a member of the Vatican Specula, was an employee at numerous NASA projects in the United States and taught more than 30 years at various universities, including the John Carroll University in the US and the Pontifical University of Comillas in Spain….
“The state need not impose any specific religious behavior,” but it has to be taken into account, that the Western countries are based on Christian ethics, because this has formed these States and made them what they are and what is necessary to defend.
“The Catholicity is a central key element in the development of the state”, which applies to all of Western Europe. Therefore, the European countries could not accept the abolition of Christianity without putting their very existence at risk.
There is growing secularization, and this was “up to a certain point, even desirable, because religion must not be a political element.” But the state has the task and duty to protect its Christian heritage as part of the common good.
Islam is “completely unable” to respect human dignity and human rights
Carreira mainly sees a threat to Western countries, and that is above all Islam. “I would say that Islam is the worst plague that humanity has seen in the past 2000 years.”. Islam is “completely unable” to develop, respect for human dignity.
For Muslims it is therefore “impossible to respect human rights and the Western tradition”.
A Muslim in Europe “denies either this respect, then is an internal threat to Europe, or he accepts European thought, which means he is an unbeliever and is dead according to Islamic understanding.” Either way, “there is no positive contribution by Islam to a modern society that is respectful of the fundamental rights of every human being,” said Carreira.
Idea of the multicultural state “an intellectual blunder”
For this reason, the astrophysicist and Jesuit sees in the idea of a multicultural state an “intellectual blunder”. It lacks any “reasonable relation to reality”. Father Carreira said: “It seems to me that one can not plausibly claim that Islam is compatible with the rights of a European nation.”…

If you want some insight on why so many of our fellow humans — ones who proclaim their social and political moorings as to the left of center — please take 10 UNDISTRACTED MINUTES to read a superb item by Dennis Prager in the current edition of National Review (online). The title is “Why The Left Hates Western Civilization”, and it can be found at http://www.nationalreview.com.
Pass that on to every one of importance in your life, along with federal and state elected officials, faith leaders you consider reasonably smart, and others who are unable to discover a reason for the intense rage shown by leftists when achievements of our women and men of genius — currently and in past history, are praised.
Custos Custodum says
Interesting piece by Dennis Prager, but he leaves out a key aspect of Leftism – the ravening for political power.
Leftists in the Neo-Marxist/Frankfurt School tradition have been working assiduously for decades to weaken and destroy the traditional family and all aspects of Western civilization: equality before the law, military customs, Christianity, Judaism, even the exact sciences. Their immediate aim is to gain total control not of the “means of production”, but the means of propaganda, including schools, universities and the media.
Totalitarian, unfettered power is the unalterable aim of the “cadres” of this silent, deadly revolution. Leftism benefits from an image softened by countless fellow travelers who remain stuck in blue-eyed naivete and genuinely believe they are working for “peace” and “progress.”
jihad3tracker says
Hello Custos — Yes, agreed: the Left, throughout its history and currently, has the totalitarian’s agenda of achieving power.
Fessitude says
Not to mention that millions of non-Leftists throughout the West enable PC MC, which is the #1 reason why the West persists in its suicidal myopia with regard to the Problem of Muslims.
If it weren’t for these millions of non-Leftist PC MCs throughout the West, Leftism wouldn’t have the sociopolitical traction and influence it has been enjoying more and more in the last few decades.
Dennis Prager, David Horowitz and Daniel Greenfield and so many others in the Counter-Jihad are so obsessed with the bête noire of Leftism, it hampers their ability to properly analyze the Problem of the Problem — i.e., the Problem (of the West’s myopia to) the Problem (of Islam).

I never understood your reflexive defence of the Left. The mindset that allowed, along other scourges, islam to fester came form the left and it’s propagated by the left. Cultural relativism? Leftist dogma. All religions teach the same? Leftist dogma.”Check your privilege” mindset? Leftist dogma. Sure, you can say that Centrists and those on the Right also propagate Leftist dogmas, but that’s inaccurate. A much more accurate description would be they’re bullied into propagating them. The left takes a subset of victims of an issue, focus on them and them alone, and cries “discrimination”. Anyone who tries to argue otherwise will be labelled a “racist”, “sexist”, “transphobe”, or whatever. And maybe I’m just optimistic by nature, but I’m guessing that most people aren’t sexist, racist, transphobes or whatever. Some kind-hearted people might actually believe there’s a problem and want to help. Other just want to carry on with their lives without being called “racists” or “sexists” or whatever. Especially politicians.
I believe a good analogy would be that of a meat plant polluting the river water and causing people to get sick. The meat plant would be the Left in general, the pollution spread on the water that allows diseases to fester would be leftist ideology. What you’re doing is saying that the local village has a problem with this one disease alone, that the problem is simply the people affected with that one disease and that the group of people blaming the meat plant are in the wrong. Meanwhile, you’re ignoring the rest of the diseases affecting the village and their cause – the water polluted by the meat plant. As long as the meat plant is polluting the water, no matter how many diseased people you “deport”, there’ll always be more. Because the source of the problem is the meat plant polluting the water.
For all your huffing and puffing about “the problem of the problem”, it’s astonishing how you can’t see the problem of “the problem of the problem” – you look at one symptom and ignore the underlying cause while chastising those who have a better, clearer head than you. If anyone’s ability to properly analyse the situation is hampered, that’s your own, with your reflexive defence of the left.
Custos Custodum says
@Fessitude
Quite true.
One of the reasons the Left is so desperate to control the means of propaganda is because control of the “narrative” (adaptable set of lies) in and of itself confers control over broad swathes of impressionable naïfs.
The naïfs can then be activated as zombie troups in broader battles (e.g. elections) or social campaigns against “hate speech” etc.

We all have to be peace makers, but we also have to see what the principle achieve. We cannot have one way love. It has to be responded with the same emotional force. The Christianity has shown its part, but Islam responds for 17 centuries with hatred, genocide, mass killings, and forced Islamization. In our time, the real enemies are the heads of the western governments, who accepts the Islamization and the force the population to be silent.

Heroes against islam’s jihad hate are popping up all over the place. Yeah! This can only help us. Sadly this intellectual and compassionate man has made things difficult for himself. He has his pansy superiors in the Church who will be mad at him and he’ll probably end up on the jihadist’s hit list. He’s going to get it from both ends, and it’s no joke. Stop and think of what muslims have done, riotous and murderous attacks for the silliest reasons, a cartoon, a bad movie, a frank joke, a book of fiction, I mean, these assaults on our liberty and humanity are an attack at the deepest level. If they can horse whip our core principles of life then they own our butts, we are their slaves.
It’s absolutely true, it’s impossible for muslims to “respect human rights and the Western tradition”. Their religion won’t allow it. They have shown no enthusiasm for compromising their creed for us; on the contrary, the greater their numbers the bolder they get with their jihad assault on our culture and freedoms. It’s time we get serious about the threat, stop making excuses, and accept that we are in a war with an ideology that has declared war against humanity’s core principles of freedom, equality, and right to life. And then take the necessary steps to overcome the threat, immigration would be a good place to start.

Please study the growing archeological evidence for the authenticity and veracity of the history outlined in the Old and New Testaments. Please study the latest research in the area of physics which points to the existence of God. (All true science points to God, the Creator.)
For instance, the History channel aired an episode reporting that Hammurabi had dreamed of his famous Code in detail and that he had it recorded and imposed throughout his empire (1700s BC). The t.v. program ascribed the knowledge “download” to the Babylonian leader, through his dreams, as coming from aliens; however, the more accurate analysis would be that God, our Creator, “downloaded” this knowledge into this pagan leader via his dreams.
Please review the most recent scientific studies of the Shroud of Turin, the Tilma with the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City, the Eucharistic miracle of Buenos Aries (1996) for physical evidence of many of the key truths of the Catholic faith.
With respect to Islam, it is a counterfeit religion, a political supremacist ideology disguised as a religion. It steals from the Jewish and Christian texts and twists them in order to cloak itself with a veneer of religious authenticity. It is the quintessential wolf in sheep’s clothing – a pretence of peace and virtue disguising a violent and genocidal death cult.

Lion of Judah's Cub says
bobm,
Tread carefully, you are attacking the bride of Christ. The Catholic Church was instituted by Christ directly through Peter and sanctified by the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. Christ promised the gates of hell shall not prevail against His Church.
You sound like the pharisees who claimed that Jesus was able to cast out demons because He was demonic. You know not of what you speak. You are remarkably close to the unpardonable sin.
All Christian denominations are offshoots of the Catholic Church — the original Church instituted by Christ.
The various evils you ascribe to the Catholic Church were the efforts of the evil men who infiltrated the Church in order to destroy it from within. Much the same as islam’s war on the west, to infiltrate from within. This is the tactic of satan which he repeats over and over against his main enemies – Christians and Jews.
For example, the pedophile (or pederast) priests were infiltrators into the Catholic Church and hierarchy (both communists and high level masons/satanists). Their expressed goal is and was to discredit and destroy the Catholic Church. Why? Because it is the bride of Christ and helps bring souls to heaven rather than to satan’s hell. It is also the strongest spiritual army against satan and his kingdom. Christ wins in the end and His purified bride enjoys the wedding banquet with Him.
Lion of Judah's Cub says
P.S. The Catholic Church had nothing to do with the creation of islam. Any such claims are false.

Jack Diamond says
There are many self-described atheists, ex-Muslims like Ibn Warraq, Ali Sina; even Hugh Fitzgerald himself (as I recall), who are obviously vital in the counter-jihad.
Too many at JW seem more concerned with their atheist bona fides and their “crusade” against the idea of God anywhere by anyone, than with the specter of Islam and its unique threat to the civilization they supposedly prize. There is also a personal big chip-on-the-shoulder grudge against Christians and Christianity, by many of them. That so many think it more important to assert their contempt for religion itself than make common-cause against a deadly common enemy shows a sorry lack of comprehension of the clear and present danger here. It’s more urgent to ridicule religion. The condescending tone (of a “superior intelligence”) is another unfortunate hallmark.

Indeed, Jack. Yes–I’ve observed, and even experienced, the same ridicule from a few (not all) atheists on JW. Amazing how many of the comments under this refer to what happened between Christianity (various) and Islam around the time of the Crusades.
These are almost all totally irrelevant & are often distractions and deflections often by pro-Islamists who still haven’t got rid of their adopted sense of victimhood, the only thing they feel they can justify & measure their lives by & offer as an avenue of “blame” for their unutterable uselessness.
In short their perceived problems are “always someone else’s fault”.
They neglect to mention that the Crusades were largely rescue missions & very few in number around 1100-1200AD, in contrast to the thousands of wars and other actions undertaken by Islamists in their expansion across North Africa, & into Spain and Europe as well as the Mediterranean Islands, including the Islamisation of Turkey, from roughly 630AD to the present day.
Doug4500 says
I meant to add that unless we turn our minds away from these distractions we will not focus on the current problem with Islam which, while similar to their hegemonic ventures in the past, has this time been facilitated by an inexplicable synchronous insanity by so many of the world’s leaders in their appeasement, acceptance or encouragement of mass immigration of Islamists, a notable proportion of which is being exploited by jihadists.

10:4. That you be not bowed down under the bond, and fall with the slain? In all these things his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
10:5. Woe to the Assyrian, he is the rod and the staff of my anger, and my indignation is in their hands.
10:6. I will send him to a deceitful nation, and I will give him a charge against the people of my wrath, to take away the spoils, and to lay hold on the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.
10:7. But he shall not take it so, and his heart shall not think so: but his heart shall be set to destroy, and to cut off nations not a few.

Islam not compatible with democracy. Therefore stands to reason, islam should have no say in democratic rule of law..nor address any such matters. They should by their own Sharia not participate in voting rights of the infidels yet they do to harm the democratic system from within. Once they have a number of delegates..senators..members of parliament they will impose their views even further denying democracy and free speech even more so than they already do. This will lead to clash of cultures and internal unrest unless something drastic is done soon. I think it is about time Islam makes a big decision to update its so called scriptures from God, or they will be isolated even further with time…once the libertarians are removed from power.
