Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

Missouri: Youth pastor’s wife wearing hijab in “solidarity” with Muslims

Apr 21, 2016 9:32 pm By Robert Spencer

“Someone needs to be communicating with Muslims that there are Christians in this nation who love them.” How wonderful! Now when will Martha DeVries show some love for Aqsa Parvez, whose Muslim father choked her to death with her hijab after she refused to wear it? When will Martha DeVries celebrate the memory Amina Muse Ali, a Christian woman in Somalia whom Muslims murdered because she wasn’t wearing a hijab? And of the 40 women who were murdered in Iraq in 2007 for not wearing the hijab; and of Alya Al-Safar, whose Muslim cousin threatened to kill her and harm her family because she stopped wearing the hijab in Britain; and of Amira Osman Hamid, who faces whipping in Sudan for refusing to wear the hijab; and of the Egyptian girl, also named Amira, who committed suicide after being brutalized for her family for refusing to wear the hijab; and of the Muslim and non-Muslim teachers at the Islamic College of South Australia who were told that they had to wear the hijab or be fired; and of the women in Chechnya whom police shot with paintballs because they weren’t wearing hijab; and of the women also in Chechnya who were threatened by men with automatic rifles for not wearing hijab; and of the elementary school teachers in Tunisia who were threatened with death for not wearing hijab; and of the Syrian schoolgirls who were forbidden to go to school unless they wore hijab; and of the women in Gaza whom Hamas has forced to wear hijab; and of the women in Iran who protested against the regime by daring to take off their legally-required hijab; and of the women in London whom Muslim thugs threatened to murder if they didn’t wear hijab; and of the anonymous young Muslim woman who doffed her hijab outside her home and started living a double life in fear of her parents, and all the other women and girls who have been killed or threatened, or who live in fear for daring not to wear the hijab?

Who will show any love for them? When will anyone stand in solidarity with them? Those who taunt or brutalize hijab-wearing women are louts and creeps, and should be prosecuted if they commit any acts of violence. At the same time, the women who don’t wear hijab in Muslim countries are far more likely to be victims of violence than hijabis in the West. Who speaks for them?

“Youth Pastor’s Wife Is Wearing a Muslim Hijab — Here’s Why,” by Billy Hallowell, The Blaze, March 21, 2016 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):

A high school guidance counselor is attempting to counter anti-Muslim rhetoric by wearing an Islamic hijab to her public school every Monday — an effort that she launched after her pastor spoke about the importance of challenging oneself to make a difference.

“I felt moved out of my comfort zone,” Martha DeVries said of the motivating sermon.

DeVries, the 47-year-old wife of a youth pastor who resides in Kansas City, Missouri, also explained that she felt a responsibility to show her support for refugees and Muslims based on some of the political rhetoric that has been raging of late.

“I’ve just gotten very tired of hearing so many negative things, like Donald Trump’s ‘let’s not let Muslim immigrants into the United States’ and the scare on Syrian refugees,” DeVries told Baptist News Global last month.

In addition to the rhetoric, DeVries cited the Bible’s proclamation that Christians should love others — a message that she is hoping to bolster by wearing the Muslim headscarf.

“I think of Muslims in my community as my neighbors and it’s not my job to judge them or determine their salvation,” she said. “My job is to love them.”

DeVries continued, “Someone needs to be communicating with Muslims that there are Christians in this nation who love them.”

She said that the act of solidarity — which was undertaken after receiving advice from Muslim women about the appropriateness of wearing the hijab — received no negative feedback in school or her community since she started wearing it in December; she plans to continue through May….

When will some Imam’s wife wear a cross to show that they love Christians or a star of David pendant to show they love the Jews?
Has anyone asked this looney those questions?

These liberal do-gooders ate too stupid to notice that all of this “solidarity” crap and the interfaith dialogue BS is always one-sided: Christians bowing down to muslims. There is no reciprocity, but somehow this fact escapes them. Perhaps her hijab is on too tight and has cut off circulation to the brain.

‘Maybe her hijab is on too tight’. No Hope-that can’t be the reason for this cretin. Because she was stupid enough to put it on in the first place.

No-it’s gotta be the Michael Savage explanation, i.e., ‘Liberalism is a mental disease’. However: You’re on to something. Because of course now that she’s donned the headbag what little smarts she has will decrease incrementally.

Jesus loves the Muslim people, but I would venture to declare He abhors Islam and what it promotes! He NEVER took sinners into the homes where He was staying, until AFTER they’d repented; He went to their places. There was a reason for that; the same reason you don’t bring someone infected with say, ebola, into your home; it’s CONTAGIOUS!

Sorry Terry, but your very inept attempt to proof text scripture falls very short of the lesson taught by the Christ. Here is what he actually said as Matthew provides it in teh 5th chapter of his Gospel:

43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor[a] and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”

You actually are under exactly that obligation.

Please don’t misuse the Word of God to try to score cheap political points in a Facebook rant..

To RevJCY – who sez, “You actually are under exactly that obligation..”

Let me see if I’ve got this right: These verses you quote require or “oblige” Christians to commit to suicide? Genocide?

You don’t sound like a Christian at all, let alone a Christian minister. I don’t trust you as far as I can throw you, “Rev”. You sound like either a troll or a member of the moron class, like the idiot woman sporting a headscarf til May in order to “show solidarity” with a class of people who want to destroy anyone who varies from the prescribed path. Islam, furthermore, is NOT a “religion”: – Islam is a totalitarian theocracy, Fool.. What utter nonsense you post, “Rev”!

You also say “Please don’t misuse the Word of God to try to score cheap political points in a Facebook rant..” Terry’s point is nothing like a “rant” – it is, rather, intelligent and well taken, and nothing like “cheap political points” unless you and Christ consider human life itself “cheap”. You are not on Facebook now, Buddy. There’s purpose and serious matters being addressed here at Jihad Watch. Get with the program.

For a start, you can clarify how Christ commits His followers to suicide and genocide. Okay? I’m waiting with bated breath to hear your response.

        Cheers!

To Mockingjay – Then, again, Mockingjay, Protestant Christians (such as the Episcopalians, who taught me) do not deny, like Islam does, the existence of, individual choice. I was encouraged to participate in intellectual activity and questioning in my conservative, Episcopalian upbringing and schooling.

Roman Catholics and their religious obligations are not my area of expertise, but I believe they are taught to suppress individual choice and defer to and abide by whatever the current pope, whose words come directly from God and who is infallible…(no matter that one pope disagrees with a previous pope – go figure) says. I agree that Pope Francis appears to be acting on these verses from Matthew, but a rational mind will equate those verses with suicidal proclivities that, in time and with practice, will most certainly lead to self-destruction. What’s the sense in that?

          Cheers!

          ………………..

Mockingjay, devout Christians have staunchly defended themselves against aggression for many centuries now, including against Islam.

Loving one’s enemies does *not* mean suicidally rolling over for them.

Corinthians CH 13 tells us what to do. And Jesus also said, give unto Rome that which is due(abide by the laws and pay your taxes). So by living examples we in Western countries are SHOWING Muslims how to be. And whether 2nd and 3d generation American/Western Muslims will admit it or not, they too are influenced by our Laws which are based upon Christian principals. It’s the Muslims who are fresh from the ME by a generation or two, who are the least influenced by Western Culture and desire Sharia, or so it seems to me anyway.

Now the law is being stretched and tweeked to allow for Shari’a Law. So when our legal “doctrine” is threatened, we must act and stand against that threat.

        Apr 22, 2016 at 8:05 pm

Exactly Sandra! Agape Love, the love of the wholeness of God the Father, is about truth. I am sure that our Father would not want his children to roll over and expose our necks as a people. If we did, who would be left to spread the Gosple? Personal sacrifice, like the Christians in the Lion’s den of Rome, is a different example of love and a different TIME. Today we have LAWS that cover religion and murder and all written from a Christian historical perspective.

I’d fight a rhetoric I did not like by arguing with words, but whatever works for you…

I’ve just gotten very tired of hearing so many negative things, like Donald Trump’s ‘let’s not let Muslim immigrants into the United States’ and the scare on Syrian refugees

You know, like the ones in Paris. And Cologne. And raping children in swimming pools. No need to ban or be scared of rapists and murderers…

She said that the act of solidarity — which was undertaken after receiving advice from Muslim women about the appropriateness of wearing the hijab — received no negative feedback in school or her community since she started wearing it in December; she plans to continue through May….

No negative feedback? Oh, what a difficult task it must have been – almost as if “islamophobia” is a myth or something. Anyway, hope things turn out right afterwards – I’d hate to come June or July and read something like “Youth pastor’s wife murdered after local muslim mistakes her for an apostate for stopping to wear the hijab”, or whatever muddle, fuzzy obfuscation the MSM would report it under. Probably disguised as an anti-muslim hate crime or something “Youth pastor’s wife who wore a hijab out of solidarity with muslim women found dead, islamophobia suspected”…

        To Cathy Brown,

Please don’t assign to her the status of a dhimmi. Dhimmies are hopeless, tyrannized and oppressed; outnumbered and unarmed. No external help, always denied. If they manage to rise or to fight back, then that is usually ‘reported’ as “inter ethnic violence” – and help is given to the Muslims, with ‘peace keepers’ to protect the Muslims.

Many on this, and other websites, use this degrading term, instead of using it with the utmost sympathy. Though, I hasten to admit that occasionally there are some characters who deserve contempt. Those dhimmies who escape, to the US, and some European countries, are even send back for torture and slaughter. Many dhimmies, including children, rather die horribly than denouncing their faith.

You are however *absolutely correct and truthful, nay accurate*, in calling her demented. 100% agreement from me!

BTW, I wonder what her husbands favored sermon is… “Blessed are the feeble minded”, perhaps.

        • Fessitude says

          Apr 22, 2016 at 2:19 pm

DFD is correct in distinguishing the dhimmi from the Westerner who has (thank Allah) no real experience of Islamic oppression nor any in their family heritage (example, Danny Thomas, Kasey Kasem, Ralph Nader, et Al…) and yet still has the impulse to defend Islam & Muslims. Many moons ago, Jihad Watch used to imply this confusion of categories with its sister site “Dhimmi Watch” (often reporting on Western Useful Idiots under that rubric). However, I wouldn’t go as far as DFD and imply that all dhimmis are exempt from our criticism or condemnation just because they are victims of Islam. There are historically indications of some dhimmis behaving like “Kapos” while in our time we sometimes find a Christian or Jew who originally hails from the Muslim world now living in the West, yet still defending Islam and/or Muslims. Some indeed almost seem to behave like agents of Islam. Many if not perhaps most dhimmis do deserve our sympathy; but I’d hesitate to make that a blanket rule.

          To Fessitude:

You are of course correct, there are numerous Kapo-dhimmies indeed. Unfortunately so.

I should have noted that there are exceptions, to what is otherwise the rule. Well, noted. Talk about Kapo-dhimmies, how about a guy washing and kissing their feet…

        • gravenimage says

          Apr 23, 2016 at 12:39 am

DFD, “dhimmi” has typically been used in both senses here at Jihad Watch–as the Infidel forced to live under Shari’ah law *and* the tool in the West toadying to Islam without compulsion.

If you look through the archives dating back a few years, you will find that there was a companion section to Jihad Watch called Dhimmi Watch dedicated to just these kinds of stories–the one above definitely would have come under this category.

Robert Spencer eventually merged JW and DW because there was so much overlap.

There also used to a virtual awards ceremony around the first of the year featuring such categories as Anti-Dhimmi of the Year.

I agree that the two uses of the term “dhimmi” are hardly identical–but in calling an idiot like the one above a “dhimmi” I doubt many people are actually confusing her with an oppressed Copt in Egypt or Christian in Pakistan just trying to survive.

I’m listening to the first one, to see if I can detect any blatant signs of him being a “liberal”. So far, I haven’t heard anything specific, other than the hint of one where he jokes, half-facetiously, that while contemplating the current Presidential campaign, he finally decided to buy a “Salvy for President” t-shirt (referring to the MVP player (catcher) of the Kansas City Royals, Salvador Perez of Venezuela (what the hell is a Venezuelan doing on an American baseball team? but I digress…?).

And it gets funnier: replaying to someone here, he posted a link to an essay on his blog where he explained why he left. That article was dated November 17, and in there he expressed his disappointment at the communities in Jihad Watch and Paltalk. You can imagine how surprised I was reading that due to his wiling return to JW alone, but the kicker was that on December 21 he wrote a post on the Sam Harris forums inviting people to go on PalTalk. “Her Husband Approves” Good, I would suggest he had little say in the matter, BUT under Islamic law she would have been whipped or punched into submission had her husband NOT approved.
This women says that as a Christian her main calling is to love one another, sorry the main and most important calling of all Christians is to share the Gospel. The Gospel in its full totality is very challenging and personally demanding and is far more involved than ‘feeling good” or having “happy clappy” church meetings.
Then there is the matter of persecution of Christians under Islam, is her church prepared to address this issue, perhaps she should invite some Christians from Egypt or Syria who suffer constant persecution under Islam in their come countries to come and speak to the starry eyed millennials of her church.

He told me that he’s a muslim, which is, like, this really peaceful religion, which treats women like princesses, and that I’m so beautiful he thinks I look just like one myself. In fact, he told me that he’s so rich he’s coming to the US soon to visit and that he’d like to meet me when he does. Oh yeah: he’s bringing his friends with him, and they want to meet me too!’

DD: ‘How exciting for you! What do your parents think of your new friends?’

UTYOSWHDDFAC: ‘I have no idea, because he told me not to mention them to my Mom and Dad. He said he and his friends want to meet me by myself, with maybe some of my girlfriends too.’

DD: ‘He’s probably a little nervous Honey. Maybe your parents would be islamophobic, you know? He’s treating you with dignity, letting you make your own choices.’

UTYOSWHDDFAC: ‘Totally! He SO thinks I’m a grown woman, OK? He said in his country girls my age get to be treated as if they’re women, and they can even get married if they want to! I really feel like I’m falling in love with him Mrs. DeVries-even tho’ his picture looks a lot older than me…’

DD: ‘Now be careful Honey-remember, you don’t want to judge him or be ageist. I want to support you in your choices, so you always feel you’re in your very own Safe Space.’

UTYOSWHDDFAC: ‘Oh, thank you Mrs. DeVries! He’s coming here next week and I’m going to meet him then.’

          DD: ‘It’s all good.’

UTYOSWHDDFAC: ‘I just love you Mrs. DeVries! You SO never do any microaggressions against any of us kids-I mean, women-so, can I ask you a question?

DD: ‘Of course you can Honey. What is it?’

He also needs Rev Dr Mark Durie’s three books – “Which God?” (on the difference between the Biblical God and Allah), The Third Choice: Islam, Dhimmitude and Freedom, and “Liberty to the Captives” (practical pastoral advice re the spiritual liberation and ‘deprogramming’ of Dhimmis and of those who have left Islam and become Christian). And there are also two very helpful – and quite brief and clear – books by an ex-Muslim now-Christian, ‘Sam Solomon’ [nom de plume], entitled “Al Hijra: The Islamic Doctrine of Immigration” and “The Mosque and Its Role in Society”.

As a *youth* leader he NEEDS to know this stuff so that he can inform and prepare the kids for the very dangerous and frightening world they are going to inhabit.

The Mark Durie book “Which God?” would be particularly helpful. It is a revised and expanded version of an earlier book called “Revelation? Do We Worship the Same god? Jesus, God, Holy Spirit in Christianity and Islam”, in which the key differences – indeed, antitheses – were summarised handily at the back of the book in tabular form. An excellent ‘teaching text’ that would certainly be comprehensible, with some guidance, by any intelligent teenager.

FINANCIAL. The Islamic veil is about the MONEY, i.e. where the inheritance goes.

What proves this is the story of the revelation of the verse of veiling: Sahih Bukhari 1:4:148; Sahih Bukhari 8:74:257; Sahih Muslim 26:5397.

The real purpose of the veil is to hide a woman’s face and body from unwelcome suitors and reserve her for her FIRST COUSIN.

A first-cousin marriage allows the grandparents to bequest their wealth ONLY to their own offspring and not have the money leave the family.

The Islamic veil has NOTHING TO DO WITH PIETY OR WITH MODESTY! The veil is PURELY about MONEY!

The pair wore other disguises as well…apparently…as an immature prank on friends. The details of the story are not confirmed by an eye-witness.

Pierre Trudeau wrote anti-Semitic plays in high school and expressed admiration for fascist dictators such as Franco. In his early twenties, he wished to establish a fascist style of government in Quebec.

The commentary in the link brings up an important issue, in fact I think the most important issue bar none in all of this…Were Mohammed’s warlike instructions regarding the unbelievers and the polytheists intended to be taken only as limited to their historical context or for all time?

Everything I can find in the scriptures and history tells me they were intended for all time…I agree with all the jihadi groups about this. But Islamic apologists, both Muslim and non-Muslim, insist that they were limited to their historical context. I am surprised more isn’t made of this…surely it is a clear divide which we should all be able to come to a clear view about (unless the sneaky bastards are lying to us…gosh!)

Yeah, she can visit that mass grave recently found in the Levant. The one filled with the corpses of women the New Caliphs couldn’t market as sex slaves because they were too old or ugly. There were no teen or prepubescent female corpses in the mass grave. When she visits that place she should ask her ISIS tour guide, who dug the grave hole? Surely the New Caliphs didn’t do the work; it was no doubt dug by the husbands and fathers and sons of the women buried there. Moslems by predilection are not given over to hard labor. They prefer slave labor, just like the Holy Prophet Mohammed, who never did a day’s work in his life. But, then again, nor did Bernie or Hillary; maybe that’s why they like Moslems so much. Easy living.

Hello M Observer, I am always pleased to see comments from Australia on Jihad Watch, it helps me to know that I am not alone in being concerned about Islam, Islamic Sympathizers, Islamic Apologists and excessive Islamic immigration into this country.
As you would know we are not allowed to have any public discussion on race or immigration matters here in Australia. It is so wrong.
Regarding this misguided pastor’s wife, her actions defy logic. No one, and I repeat no one is forced to wear a headscarf either here or in the USA, Why should we have to show empathy?
Now, if instead, the pastors wife wanted to show some love to some local Muslim women she should invite them to a morning tea and bible study. Then if she was really brave she should suggest that they come in western dress, the ladies from the church just may find Islamic dress slightly intimidating…
Heedless to say, any Muslim woman who did accept such an invitation would sooner or later be beaten or whipped by her husband.
      When will we ever learn?

‘This is the way the world (Western civilization/Judeo-Christian society) ends, not with a bang but a whimper.’

Acts of solidarity such as this are not legally treasonous, but they are far too close to being morally and intellectually treasonous. These ridiculous acts lend culturally backward, misogynistic customs–the hijab– the air of legitimacy. Western women should be protesting the hijab, not wearing it!

In the west, we began the long, hard work of overcoming the marginalization and sequestering of women centuries ago. The detente between the sexes is enshrined in such things as domestic architecture, which includes a room where adult men and women were free to talk with each other: the parlour or conversation room.

In Islamic society, by contrast, there is the harem, in which women were isolated from male company their entire married life.

  33. Alarmed Pig Farmer says

    Apr 22, 2016 at 12:29 pm

First we saw freedom made to shrink in the face of socialism and globalism. The first is demanding of the individual, the latter makes him feel good. So the U.S. Constitution has been shrunk to the point of no longer being the law, but now being a reference document used only in situations where it can be used to deliver for globalism and socialism. And this doesn’t even account for awful sister ideologies like racism and sexism in its various forms, much less the scientific fraud called environmentalism.

But we’ve seen Christianity also shrunk and twisted into a grotesque image of its former self. A preacher’s wife wearing with pride a sexist artifact like a hijab, celebrating a terribly awful thing like Islam.

Why is that? How is that? What, if anything, can be done about that?

    • quotha raven says

      Apr 22, 2016 at 4:25 pm

To Alarmed Pig Farmer – Your observations about the state of our Constitution are, sadly, accurate.
As I say from time to time, Welcome to Post-Constitutional USA.

In answer to the three questions you pose at the end of your comment, I’d answer:
      1. Stupidity and ignorance.
      2. Stupidity and ignorance.
      and
      3. Education, and possibly making the hijab illegal to wear by students in schools, as was done in Paris (or maybe all of France; I’m not positive).

My answer to 3, however, is a tall order, challenging, to say the least. My own poor brain finds it hard to be optimistic that any aspect of it will be popularly initiated, let alone successful. Helas! The country is full of people incapable of rational and discerning thought, and most of them don’t even have a clue that rationality and discernment are critical elements of truth seeking.

    Qur’an 33:59:

“O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their veils over their bodies. That is most convenient that they should be known and not molested.”

In other words, it is unveiled women who *should* be molested.

Quotha: You never said a truer word, i.e.: ‘Roman Catholics and their religious obligations are not my area of expertise.’

    Hold that thought, will you?

Yes Q: Here I am, resident Roman Catholic ‘suppress[ing] [my]ndividual choice’ and ‘deferr[ing] to whatever the current Pope says…’. Oh wait. I actually can’t think what to say here because, wouldn’t you know it? I’ve lost my [live] feed to what Pope Francis is saying, right this minute, so, naturally, I’m all of a muddle…

For the ten zillionth time: WE are not taught to ‘defer to whatever the current Pope says’. WE believe that he is infallible on matters of ‘Faith and Morals’, a highly circumscribed area of pronunciation on Dogma,

Papal infallibility was only pronounced in 1870. Such infallible pronouncements are extremely rare. We defer to those pronouncements, and only those. So for example: when Francis opines that Americans shouldn’t build walls to keep out illegals, that is NOT infallible. In fact: that’s just him, talking. And WE are as free as the next person to consider that meretricious dribble, which it is, so I do.

    Moving right along:

I-in common with all [practicing] Christians-‘suppress [my] individual choice’ to the teachings of Christ. I do this freely, nay, joyously! Since I-despite my JD, my membership in the English Honor Society and whatever other intellectual gifts I possess-do NOT possess the mind of God, I very gratefully ‘defer’ to the teachings of the Magisterium. That is the ‘Repository of Faith’ which started collecting about 2,000 years ago, when Christ instituted the Holy Roman Catholic Church.

Now of course this differs from Protestant theology. That’s not a problem because you see, Quotha, I am not a Protestant. I am a Catholic.

We have an unbroken line of Popes from the time of Christ. St. Peter was the first. We’ve had some saintly ones, some perfectly-fine-but-not-saintly-ones, and some off-the- charts horror shows (the Medici spring to mind). Through it all we have endured which is not surprising since Jesus Himself said of the Church ‘…the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it.’

Finally: As for Christ’s commandment to ‘love thy enemies’, Sandra nailed it. We are to pray for our enemies, and act with love towards them. However as you yourself know, since you too are a Christian, that is completely congruent with fighting ‘just’ wars. ‘Just’ wars are those which are in defense of our own lives and/or those of others.

And now I”m so utterly exhausted from talking off my live feed to the Vatican that I simply must go to bed. I wish you a very good night.

To Kathy Brown, Esq – I’m really sorry I didn’t express myself better; I didn’t mean by my reference to intellect to suggest that Roman Catholics are stupid – I should have remembered that Papal infallibility applies just as you explain.so articulately to “matters of ‘Faith and Morals’, a highly circumscribed area of pronunciation on Dogma” and, in those matters, faith and duty prevail amongst the believers. A long time ago, I was married in the Roman Catholic Church to a Yale grad with a PhD from Columbia, and to do so, I had to take instruction from a Catholic priest. And sometime in pre-history I took a course in comparative religion, which addressed Roman Catholicism. Beyond that I’m an ignoramus and not deeply interested in tenets of religions. Except for Islam, which interests me very much, as a force and a threat and a theocracy, but not as a religion per se.

Please accept my apologies for any offense you understandably took from what I said…badly.. And while I embrace Christian values, I’d characterize myself as a lapsed Episcopalian, not a Christian. I’m unable to make that required “leap of faith”.Thank you, Kathy B, for your anticipated indulgence, and for your clarification – which benefited me and no doubt other readers here at JW.
