Scotland: Saudis cut funding to ex-Muslims after they refuse to aid building of mosque

Apr 28, 2016 7:20 pm By Robert Spencer

“Wahhabism does not want people to think for themselves. Saudi Arabia does not want people to think for themselves. It is against women, it is against gay people, it talks of killing. Saudi Arabia wants to spread this around the world. I cannot be a part of it.” This raises important implications for Saudi students in the West, but Western authorities will not, of course, consider them.

Haifa Alshamrani Abdullah Amri

“Saudi family left destitute after having university funding cut off blame refusal to co-operate over building of a mosque,” by Kirsteen Paterson, The National, April 28, 2016 (thanks to Thomas):

A DESTITUTE family claiming political asylum in Scotland told yesterday of their fears of being sent home to Saudi Arabia in a row over a mosque.

Haifa Alshamrani came to the UK to study medicine but her visa was revoked when Saudi officials cut the funding for her Glasgow University tuition. The 29-year-old travelled to Scotland with husband Abdullah Amri and children Mohammad, ten, and Gadah, seven, and wept yesterday as she recalled selling her jewellery and wedding ring to pay bills.

Alshamrani, who aims to specialise in regenerative medicine, claims the decision is linked to Amri’s refusal to participate in efforts to create a Wahhabi mosque in Preston, Lancashire, on behalf of Saudi authorities.

Amri is an agnostic and Alshamrani renounced her faith several years ago and the couple say they could not be involved in activities related to the form of Islam most commonly practised in their home country.

However, they claim to have suffered threats and intimidation and been asked to return to Saudi Arabia, but fear persecution if they do so.

Unable to work or study as they wait for their asylum claim to be processed, their Saudi bank accounts have been frozen and they have sold their possessions to pay rent. Now they are waiting to put their case to immigration officials and yesterday Alshamrani told The National: “I never dreamed I would be in this situation in my life.”

Amri lost his maths teaching job in Saudi Arabia in 2012 for failing to practice Islam in public and the pair arrived in London the following year as Alshamrani tried to pursue her medical ambition.

She subsequently gained a Saudi-sponsored place at Glasgow University but received an email from the institution in November 2015 informing her that her funding had been cut off. Appeals to the Saudi embassy failed and, when she called home to query why she could not access funds in her bank account, was told to fly back to discuss the matter.

Alshamrani fears this is an effort to lure the couple back to answer for Amri’s refusal to cooperate on the mosque. She cites recent high-profile cases in the Gulf kingdom including that of the blogger Raif Badawi, who was sentenced to ten years imprisonment and 1,000 lashes for writings critical of Islam, and Ali al Nimr, who was just 17 on his arrest after anti-government protests in 2012 and is currently awaiting execution.

Alshamrani said: “Because my husband would not help, he is an infidel. He was working with the Saudi Students Association and the Saudi Embassy put money into his bank account in instalments to buy a church and convert it into a mosque.

“He said he would not do this and tried to give the money back. People came to our door shouting threats. We don’t speak to our families at home for their own safety. I don’t want them at risk. It is not safe for us to go back.”

She went on: “I want to be a student. When I say I am an asylum seeker the attitude of people changes automatically. I didn’t come here to take your benefits, I came here to get qualifications.”

Saudi authorities fund around 125,000 international students, also supplying a monthly allowance to learners. With this gone and the asylum case in motion, the family fear they will be unable to remain in their tenement flat and be placed in accommodation by the British state….

A crowdfunder seeking £850 generated £1,255 for the family, with one donor, a 17-year-old girl from Australia named Ruby, sending her wages and toys for the children.

Alshamrani said: “When I sold my wedding ring, which has our names inside it, the man asked me why I wanted to do it when I would only get £60. But you need ID to sell jewellery and because they took our passports, the only form I had was the asylum form. All I could say was ‘you know why’.”

Amri, 36, said: “When I was a child, BBC Arabic was the only radio station talking about democracy and freedom. I lived in a very strict religious family where everything was forbidden but I bought a radio and I would hide it under my pillow and listen at night. The UK was my dream.

“Wahhabism does not want people to think for themselves. Saudi Arabia does not want people to think for themselves. It is against women, it is against gay people, it talks of killing. Saudi Arabia wants to spread this around the world. I cannot be a part of it.”…

Absolutely! But it must be GOD and JESUS doing the job, and most certainly NOT the good citizens of the UK, who are already awash with these people who are either running away from their self-generated evil or trying to is bring it to the UK. The UK is supposed to be the home of the British people and NOT an unregistered international charity. We’ve already had more than enough of it. Sorry. End of.

Why not Zeus? Maybe Zeus could rescue them. For the past three thousand years he hasn’t done anything. Give him a job to do. On second thought, maybe Jesus. He has been out of work for only two thousand years and might be more inclined.

I think that Muslims who renounce their faith genuinely and nobody does it lightly, due to the dire possibilities of retaliation from relatives and or community should be given grants
by the government. This would encourage more of them to give up their faith.
These are the sort of worthy individuals who would be of value to our country. Unlike the majority who are mostly a burden and also potential harmful

I agree completely with the views expressed by BC.

To jayell in particular: I’m Anglo-German, and proud of both. The last people expressing such notions and contempt for our Christian heritage and its resultant attitude, were members of the NSDAP.

I don’t think this family has left Islam, just the form of Islam which exists in Saudi Arabia. The fact that they cannot participate in that kind of Islam means they would likely make good subjects in GB and she would be a doctor, which I believe are are short supply there. I think the British government should help them and not tolerate those Muslims who are rioting in the streets, raping, beheading, etc. They should be deported. These should be helped.

I am a follower of Jesus Christ, my husband is an atheist , he does not exhibit such hate in his heart for those who follow Jesus Christ. I have to assume that those who exhibit such hate have been given over to hell and hell is their master.

Praying to Almighty God in the Holy and Powerful Name of Jesus Christ for their safety will do not good because they are still unbelievers of the Lord and Personal Saviour Jesus Christ. If you are praying to God in Jesus’ Name (and that’s the right way to pray, as told by Jesus Christ Himself), please pray that they get Born Again by the power of the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ. If they do get Born again, then they become CHILDREN of the Good God of the Holy Bible. Now, nobody needs to worry about GENUINE CHILDREN of the God of the Holy Bible. Why? Because He has PROMISED to take good care of them like a good earthly father takes care of his children. Human father’s have very little power to care for anything…but Almighty God…He has power to do anything He wants to because His Power is INFINITE!

However Abdullah, who is agnostic and does not practice Islam, did not want to get involved in religious activities with the students.

Haifa said: “The students were in the process of buying a church to convert into a mosque. They wanted him to help.

“My husband said this wasn’t really his duty, it was for him to assist them with academic issues.

“They reported him to the embassy, and the embassy started putting pressure on him to do what they wanted.

Why would he call his son that if he is agnostic and always wanted to live in the UK? That name is a dead giveaway for being branded a muslim. and all the negative things it stands for.

  11. Westman says

    Apr 28, 2016 at 10:11 pm

The UK government should be paying serious attention to this. I’m betting there are 10’s of thousands of European Muslims looking for a safe way out of Islam. Squeezing Islam by law into civil law compliance isn’t going to work; it will, like a tubular ballon, just expand out elsewhere.

Offering extra financial support and safety for these folks who want to leave, could work. Safety would be the key. Of course it would require governments to offer no special treatment for those remaining in Islam and the howls of discrimination could be heard around the world.

However, there is no hope for Europe unless it is willing to declare Islam to be a cause of terrorism and a detriment to its future. I can envision the sculptures and priceless art of France being destroyed; something even the 3rd Reich would not consider. How long will it be before some “lone wolf” Fundamentalist Muslim does some serious damage? I expect to hear of it soon enough. Then imagine a mob of them running through the Louvre and the fear of police to be labelled racists.

I sense this also….math skills are needed for many things….some good some bad….being an atheist does not prohibit one. from abetting or building bad intents or supporting jihad.

So qualifications cannot be achieved in one’s own country? No math education there? This is the sticky glue problem of islam….and the problems it brings…Especially the problem of misdirection to carry out goals.

If any of this story is true, these are the cases that deserve the protection and asylum in the Western world. Especially if they and their protectors will receive threats. Furthermore those present in Western countries (and enjoying the benefit of living there) that make or even facilitate any threats to them are to be found, arrested and expelled / returned to their respective country of origin for life.

We need to make a stronger stand for our own values.

The Saudi’s offered to build 200 mosques in Germany for these immigrant freeloaders BUT NEVER took in one single immigrant fleeing Syria. NOT ONE. The Saudi’s practice the severest form of Islam called wahhabism, where the teachings are all anti kafir, spreading the hate of western society where ever a Saudi built mosque appears. This islamic religion of hate is financed by the Saudi’s world wide. And if the 28 pages of the 9-11 report comes to light the finger of blame will point directly at this corrupt and cruel wahhabi regime from Saudi Arabia.

“…But as for those who disbelieve, garments of fire will be cut out for them; boiling fluid will be poured down on their heads, Whereby that which is in their bellies, and their skins too, will be melted; And for them are hooked rods of iron. Whenever, in their anguish, they would go forth from thence they are driven back therein and (it is said unto them): Taste the doom of burning.” (22:19-22)

That was in reply to this post from Cuteness_things, which seems to have disappeared:

      Can you discuss me 🙂

What is Wahabii in your opinion?

True Islam is one not shuii not wahabii not any other name

      Did you read Quraan before?

It’s a very peaceful holy book
Full of guidance to us as Muslims

When you read one verse you should complete reading to get the whole meaning

Cuteness, I have read the whole Qur’an, Hadith/Sunnah and have read other Islamic writings. Question for you….do Wahhabiists practice anything NOT in the Qur’an? Are they ADDING ayat to the Qur’an? Do you follow all the words in the Qur’an? Do you think Jews are just as wonderful as Muslims? Do you have very close Christian friends that you do things with, like go to movies or restaurants and eat together? What do you think Muhammad means when he says people of the Book are the “vilest of creatures”.

Here on this blog, none of us ADD to or TAKE AWAY anything from the Qur’an. We understand the Medina time period and the Meccan time periods, and how they are relevant to the teachings of Islam because we learned this from Islamic Scholars, not of our own opinions! It all comes from the Qur’an and Hadith. I do not MAKE UP NEW Qur’an words. I think your idea of peace is very different from the West people. To you, peace is ORDER, meaning no Muslim disobeys the rules. To me, peace is listening to God speak to my heart through his WORD, Jesus. My impression of Qur’an is it is FULL of horrible words because Islam calls people to violence. You just read the “peaceful” words instead of reading ALL the words. Read your Qur’an and underline all the peaceful words, and circle all the Jihad words(yes we know Jihad is NOT an inner struggle! Look up the meaning in Arabic for each Jihad word in the Qur’an and Hadith). See how many more verses for Jihad than peace. Also note, WHO Muhammad is speaking to in the peaceful verses; to Muslims only or to everyone.
