Belgium pays €78,000 to Muslim convicted of plotting jihad attacks in Europe

May 13, 2016 8:24 pm By Robert Spencer

“An Al-Qaeda terrorist convicted of plotting attacks against US targets in Europe received about €78,000 in compensation, as he claimed his human rights were violated by his extradition to the US.” Europe is in full appeasement and surrender mode. Why didn’t they just make Nizar Trabelsi Prime Minister?

Nizar Trabelsi

“Belgium paid Al-Qaeda terrorist nearly €80k in ‘moral damages’ – reports,” RT, May 13, 2016:

An Al-Qaeda terrorist convicted of plotting attacks against US targets in Europe received about €78,000 in compensation, as he claimed his human rights were violated by his extradition to the US, it has emerged.

The information was revealed in Belgian media on Thursday. The compensation to the extremist – who was convicted of planning an attack on troops at a Belgian airbase and was suspected of planning an assault on the US embassy in Paris – was approved by the European Court of Human Rights back in 2014.

Nizar Trabelsi, a Tunisian professional football player turned jihadist, was convicted on charges of association with Al-Qaeda militant group and plotting attacks on US targets, including Kleine Brogel Air Base in Belgium. The base is home to the US Air Force’s 7361 Munitions Support Squadron.

The jihadist reportedly met Al-Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden on several occasions back in 2001.

He was also accused of plotting an attack on the US embassy in Paris in 2001. According to reports, Trabelsi planned to become a suicide bomber. Those charges, however, were soon dropped.

In 2003 Trabelsi was sentenced by a Belgian court to 10 years in jail. He was officially accused of acts of criminal conspiracy, destruction by explosion, possession of combat weapons and belonging to a private militia.

In 2013 he was extradited to the US and has been in jail since.

According to the European Court of Human Rights, which received the claim, Trabelsi’s extradition to the US “exposed him to a risk of treatment contrary to Article 3 of the Convention.”

“He also contended that the enforcement of the decision to extradite him had infringed his right of individual petition,” a 2014 ECHR statement read.

The ECHR ordered to pay the jihadist no less than €90,000 (about US$100,000). His family, which lives in Belgium, had already received €11,000.

He wants to kill them and they gave him €78,000 in advance. What is going on here?
Angemon, could you explain this please?

Article 3 forbids “torture or to inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.“. The 8th amendment to the US constitutionreads “Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted“.

How were his human rights violated?

My point is what made the Belgian authorities to pay huge sums of money to a muslim jihadist terrorist that wanted to massacre them?

Again: read the article. Asking me to explain you something I’m arguing against, as if I were somehow responsible for it, does NOT speak well of your comprehension skills.

It is truly incomprehensible to me when a nation gives such huge amount of money to an enemy jihadist that wanted to massacre them and I thought you could shed some light on this. My old fashion common sense tells me that something is wrong here and I am wondering if I am right.

Again, why on earth you’d think that when I’m clearly opposed to this decision?

“My old fashion common sense tells me ”

Is it the same common sense that saw me questioning this decision and made you think I could shed some light about it? If so, I think your “old fashion common sense” needs to be taken behind the barn, put out of its misery and replaced by actual working common sense.

No one can explain how the European Court of Human Rights, the European commission, nor European Governments work.
You can get a good idea if you look at how the Liberal Progressives work throughout the Western world.

The Belgian laws are insane. I’m sure Belgian inspectors can visit the prisoner in his US jail any time they wish with the full cooperation of the Attorney General.

Insane indeed. Still, having to pay him for leaving is better than having him on Belgian soil. Now if only they were to do something about his family…

I´ll be willing to bet, that the family of this piece of shyte is already living off the Belgium taxpayer and have been since their arrival in that country.
Still, 78,000 Euros is a nice little bonus for these poor little disenfranchised Musrats.

I’m amazed that he didn’t claim that extradition to the States infringed his human (sic) rights because he had a pet goldfish…I’m sure that the EUHRC would’ve upheld the claim!

Bear in mind that it was not Belgium that made this decision, it was the European Court of Human Rights, who’s principles are now – I believe – enshrined into European Union law. Belgium COULD – in theory – have over-ruled the Court, but the diplomatic consequences of doing so would have been immense.

And you wonder why so many Brits want to get out of the EU ?

The money was for compensation for the worms legal costs, arising from the finding that USA judicial code (and in particular the minutia of sentencing policy and the possibility – or otherwise – of parole) is contrary to the European Convention on Human Rights. Belgium – as a signatory – was therefore deemed to be at fault for allowing the extradition to proceed, and hence the requirement to compensate the terrorist for his legal costs.

So to summarise; the ECHR has just forced Belgium to enrich the terrorists lawyers. It would be interesting to find out who they where.

ECHR ordered the payment and the Belgian govt. fell into line. How the ECHR operates is often a mystery to many of us. Which is good reason for leaving the EU

The Belgians got off easy. Now he is in the U.S. court and penal system. How many millions will it cost to run him through our courts and prisons. Who will accept him when we turn him loose after his jail time. No one will take him and we will turn him loose in the U.S..

Trabelsi’s family, friends, jihadi networks and imams should be all deported back to Tunisia and divers other cack holes in Africa and the Magreb. The claim that his human rights were violated by being deported to the USA is laughable, were it not for the fact that he was awarded signfiicant compensation. When will the political class of Brussels and its corrupt, dhimmi judiciary get off their knees and do their duty to protect the vicitims of terror and genocide rather than submit to the fucking Sharia murderers and bombers?
