Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

Minneapolis: “Moderate Muslims” enraged at trial of accused Islamic State jihadis, claim entrapment

May 28, 2016 4:05 pm By Robert Spencer

What would it take for you to commit mass murder in the name of Allah?

Would you do it for money? For love? Out of a sense of justice? Out of a sense of religious duty?

Absurd as they may seem, these are serious questions, for as jihad mass-murder plots are being uncovered in the United States more frequently than ever, those are accused of perpetrating them and several Islamic groups are increasingly charging entrapment: that overzealous FBI agents pushed poor innocent Muslims into taking part in a jihad plot that otherwise would never have existed.

And so it is here. The same claim has been made in connection with numerous other jihad cases in the U.S. Yet charges of entrapment are silly for any Muslim caught in a jihad terror plot to try to pursue. For there is every indication that these jihadis were more than willing to do whatever was necessary to enable them to join the Islamic State. If undercover agents approached you and tried to entice you into joining a murderous jihad group, how hard would it be to convince you to do it?

Speaking strictly for myself, I have absolutely no worries of ever being entrapped in this way; there is simply nothing, under any circumstances, that anyone could say to me to convince me to blow anyone up or behead anyone. And so if someone showed up and started trying to cajole me into doing so, I would find him irritating, but I wouldn’t even come close to doing anything that would enable anyone to portray me as guilty of anything. Law enforcement agents were not to blame and cannot justly be held accountable for these men’s choices.

These increasingly common charges of entrapment should be seen for what they are: yet another attempt to divert attention from the ugly reality of Islamic jihad activity in the U.S. and around the world, and to place the responsibility for jihadist misdeeds upon non-Muslims — specifically the ones who are trying to thwart the jihadists” plans. After 9/11, we were assured again and again that the vast majority of Muslims in the U.S. and worldwide were peaceful, and sincerely condemned such violence perpetrated in the name of their religion. Yet nearly fifteen years later, we still have yet to see a sincere and effective effort within mosques to expose and report those who hold to the beliefs that led to those attacks.

Instead, we get more finger-pointing and claims of victimhood, even from self-proclaimed moderate Muslims. And that means we will also get more jihad.

“Somali Americans divided as FBI informant testifies against friends,” by Oliver Laughland, Guardian, May 27, 2016:

Abdirahman Bashir sat alone on the stand and began to cry. His head slumped in his hands, his eyes darting between the floor and the ceiling, he avoided the gaze of the three defendants in court. Young men he had allegedly planned to die with. Men whom he ultimately betrayed.

Bashir, a 20-year-old Somali American, had once pledged allegiance to the Islamic State militant group after consuming hours of violent propaganda videos. He listened to lectures delivered by radical cleric Anwar al-Awlaki and saw his four cousins depart for the frontlines in Syria. He had planned to follow.

But in December 2014, as the net began to close around him and his alleged co-conspirators, after a reported first attempt to leave the United States failed and news arrived of his cousins’ death following an airstrike, Bashir was looking for a way out.

He agreed to become an informant for the FBI.

Bashir spent the following months recording his friends with a hidden microphone as they plotted to leave Minneapolis for Syria. He taped them at their homes, inside mosques, at shopping malls and during car rides, as they articulated their radicalized views and plans to exit the US.

The recordings form the backbone of the prosecution’s case against 10 indicted Somali Americans from Minneapolis, who formed an alleged Isis cell in the city. These men, all in their early 20s, are facing charges of conspiracy to commit murder outside of the US and providing material support for a terrorist organization. Bashir’s evidence, delivered over five days in court, provides a detailed window into the ways these young men were radicalized and how the terrorist group is attempting to recruit fighters from the west.

His appearance in court has also sharply divided the large, overwhelmingly impoverished Somali diaspora in Minneapolis, which is still reeling from a swathe of young men who left the city between 2007 and 2011 to join the terrorist group al-Shabaab and fight in Somalia. Some accuse Bashir and the FBI of entrapment, saying the tactics have further intensified the mistrust between some members of the community and law enforcement.

Although the number of Americans seeking to join the Islamic State is small compared to Europe, where recent estimates suggest around 4,000 EU citizens have travelled to fight abroad, the trial in Minnesota is an indication that the US government, which has indicted 85 individuals – with an average age of just 27 – for connections to Isis, is willing to experiment with sentencing options for at least some of those involved in this Minneapolis group.

Six of the accused already have pleaded guilty, and, borrowing on practices used in European countries such as Denmark and Germany, the court will explore these young men’s capacity to be deradicalized. These evaluations could lead to shorter prison sentences, with a focus on probation, potentially offering some of these young men a second chance.

As he cried on the stand, Bashir told the court how he suffered from anxiety attacks immediately after members of the alleged cell were arrested in April last year and his involvement was revealed.

“I felt lonely,” he said, as the all-white jury listened. “A lot of the community members would say: ‘This guy is after us.’ Even some of my family members would tell their kids to stay away from me.”

Sitting in the dock, defendant Guled Omar, 21, shook his head as Bashir wiped his eyes. Abdirahman Daud and Mohamed Farah, both co-defendants aged 22, stared into computer monitors without emotion.
‘May Allah’s curse be upon you’

Bashir recorded his friends for around four months at the beginning of 2015 as they liaised with the 10th defendant in the case, 22-year-old Abdi Nur, who successfully fled the US to join Isis in 2014. The young men were recorded discussing various propaganda videos depicting torture and murder that they shared with each other, and, ultimately, their plot to buy fake passports to escape via the southern US border into Mexico.

But that plan was a sting. Bashir told members of the group he had found a man in San Diego, California, who could source them a set of fake passports. The man, whom the group nicknamed Miguel, was an undercover FBI agent.

Bashir told the court how he, Daud and Farah, drove for three days from Minneapolis to San Diego in April 2015. On the way they listened to lectures delivered by Anwar al-Awlaki, the US born radical preacher killed in Yemen by a US drone strike in 2011. But mostly, they sat in a tense silence.

In one instance of rare conversation played to the court, Daud told the group he could no longer sleep until he saw the Isis flag.

“I can’t believe I’m driving out of the land of the kuffar,” he said. “I’m going to spit on America at the border crossing. May Allah’s curse be upon you.”

When the group arrived at the exchange point, a small warehouse in the city suburbs, armed FBI agents threw two flashbang grenades, pointed their weapons at the defendants and escorted Bashir, who had faked an injury, away from the group. They had not seen him since that day.

Bashir told the court this week that he had been paid more than $100,000 by the FBI in the summer of 2015 as he assisted the investigation by translating and transcribing his recordings. He had previously been unemployed. Although paying informants is common practice in the FBI, a group of young boys, who later identified themselves as friends of Guled Omar, gasped inside the courtroom as they heard the figure.

“Shit man, nobody gets paid that much,” one whispered.

Later, one man in the group, 23-year-old Hasan Ali, a student who has attended almost every hearing to “show support” for Omar, said the FBI’s use of an informant had spread distrust among his friends, whom he described as moderate Muslims. “Going back into the community, we’re not going to trust each other any more,” he said. “White people always look at us as terrorists, now the FBI is making things even worse.”

Mohamed Farah’s father, Abdihamid Farah Yusuf, was also enraged by Bashir’s testimony. “He [Bashir] used to come to my house, eat with my boys,” he told the Guardian. “It was entrapment by the government. A set-up.”

Earlier in the day, the court had heard recordings of Farah and Bashir admiring the contents of a newly released Isis video “Upon Prophetic Methodology”, which depicts hundreds of captives being gunned down with AK47 rifles by Isis fighters, who then toss their bodies into a riverbank stained with blood. Extracts from the video were played to the court, and many in attendance craned their heads away from the screens, as Omar, Bashir and Farah watched without reaction.

Despite the overwhelming evidence, Abdihamid Farah Yusuf, who arrived in America in 1992 fleeing civil war in Somalia, maintained his son had not been radicalized and had no intention of fighting in Syria.

“He never spoke about Isis. We came from civil war – why would he want to go to another one?”

Twenty-one-year-old Abdirizak Warsame, one of the six who already has pleaded guilty to providing material support, also testified against his former friends on Tuesday, telling the court: “We would keep it [extremist views] from our family members.”

Warsame told the court how he also consumed hours of propaganda videos, including Flames of War, an extended, slickly produced film that depicts Syrian government soldiers digging their own graves before they are shot in the head by a phalanx of Isis fighters. “I watched it three of four times,” he said.

He also told the court how a group of the accused young men went paintballing in the summer of 2014, and yelled “Allahu Akbar” as they fired on other participants.

“It felt you were actually fighting,” Warsame said in monotone. “But we didn’t go there to specifically train.”

The most detailed account of how some of these young men moved to a path of radicalism came from Bashir himself. The 20-year-old’s family moved to America in 1992, escaping famine in Somalia, and raised him in a moderate household. He spoke calmly, describing how his views began to change as a high school freshman. He watched documentaries about the war in Afghanistan and had long conversations with his cousin, Hanad Mohallim, who in March 2014 left the United States to join Isis. The fact he now had four cousins fighting abroad increased his status amongst the group that remained in Minneapolis, he said.

But Bashir remained skeptical about the terror group, promising Mohallim on the day he drove him to the airport as he left America that he would follow if Mohallim could prove the fight in Syria was “true jihad”. His father and other members of his family often tried to talk him out of his radical views, but had little effect in that time. In August that year, when footage of the gruesome execution of American journalist James Foley emerged, Bashir asked his cousin over the internet: “Why would they randomly just kill a reporter?”. But Mohallim always had an answer for any of Bashir’s questions. His cousin told him Foley was a spy and Bashir believed him.
No easy answer

For Abdirizak Bihi, a prominent community organizer in the largely Somali neighborhood of Cedar-Riverside, the major route for these young men’s travel into extremism is one that is not being articulated in court: poverty.

The Somali community in Minnesota, officially estimated at just over 46,000, but likely to be larger, has the highest rate of poverty of any ethnic group in the state. According to research published by the Minnesota State Demographic Center, 58% live in poverty, with an additional 26% living close to the poverty line, and 40% of adults are unemployed.

On a short tour of the neighborhood, showcasing bustling Somali malls, tall brutalist housing towers and a diverse cultural center, Bihi was approached by a handful of younger residents who complained that they have no jobs. Public services in the neighborhood remain grossly underfunded, he said, pointing to the single publicly funded community center in the neighborhood.

“We need to fill the gap of youth programs. We have to compete with the bad people,” he said. “If we don’t engage our young people, somebody will, and that’s what happened.”

But the argument may not fully explain each of the 10 men’s pathway to radicalism. Guled Omar, who prosecutors say was the elected “emir” of the Minneapolis cell, was studying at college and had been working as a security guard before his arrest. Omar, who began testifying in his own defense on Thursday afternoon, was one of 13 siblings raised alone by his mother. Like Bashir, members of Omar’s family have gone to fight abroad. Omar’s older brother Ahmed Ali Omar, escaped to Somalia in 2007, one of the first Americans from Minneapolis to leave. He remains remains at large and was later labeled by prosecutors as an al-Shabaab recruiter.

The FBI estimates that between 30 and 40 individuals have left Minnesota in the past decade to fight for terror organizations abroad. Bihi’s own nephew, 17-year-old Burhan Hassan, was recruited to fight for al-Shabaab and was killed in Somalia in 2009.

The experience has left Bihi with little sympathy for those who criticize the FBI’s use of an informant in the current case.

“Those of us who have seen our young ones slip out of the country, killed in a far away country and never seen their bodies, never seen closure – we look at the whole thing and say: ‘They [the families of defendants] are lucky.’ Their kids are alive and they get to see them.”
A deradicalization program

US district judge Michael Davis, the senior jurist presiding over the case, has recruited a German de-radicalization researcher, Dr Daniel Koehler, to evaluate each of the young men who agree to take part in a program of deradicalization….

This absurd idea is based on the government’s fundamental and unshakable assumption that Islam is a Religion of Peace, and that jihad terrorists are misunderstanding and misinterpreting it. So all that needs to be done is teach them the true, peaceful Islam, and all will be well, right?

Well, let’s see. De-radicalization programs have been implemented elsewhere, notably in Indonesia and Saudi Arabia. Let’s look at how they fared:

11 ex-Gitmo prisoners flee the Saudi “rehabilitation program” and join up with terrorist groups

Jaw-dropper: 25 former Gitmo detainees “return to militancy” despite Saudi rehab program!

Graduate from Saudi jihadi rehab program killed in Syrian jihad: “killed a large number of Christians before his acceptance by God”

Flight 253 jihadist wasn’t cured by Saudi anti-jihad art therapy

Former Guantanamo detainee now top al-Qaeda ideologue — “He was transferred to Saudi Arabia in 2006 where he was placed in a national rehabilitation project.”

Indonesian government admits that its jihadist rehab program is a failure

“Hey buddy, you wanna go kill some unbelievers, get some spoils, get some sex slaves, and become a big-shot in the new Caliphate?” “Duhhh..sure, the Imam and Qursn sez I should fight for Allah.”

I think that if the West decided to stop supporting Muslims (welfare payments, housing, health care, free education), it would become pretty unattractive to leave the Dar-al-Islam.

We are like those described by Marx, “selling the executioner the rope used to hang us”. Importing uneducated, unassimilable persons who will most likely become public charges is foolish in the extreme – especially when the public charges consider themselves superior and that they should be in charge.

If the Muslims can’t support themselves, offer them a one-way ticket to any Muslim country they wish. Much less expensive than continuing to pay for them. They are too high-maintenance and too much of a threat to decency and safety.

Jihad mass-murder plots are being uncovered in the United States more frequently than ever. That’s is very encouraging, for it means that there are people, somewhere in USA law enforcement, who are still aware of what is happening. Only a few, perhaps, but may their knowledge never be wasted.

The problem is not law enforcement, it is the government trying to protect them, the terrorist. The President condone Muslims Jihad. He is one of them. Why Islam is taught in school? The whole Islamic DOCTRINE is part of the curriculum of World History.

@Idania: I must take issue with your last sentences.

I taught 7th-grade World History in the school year 2000-2001, right before the Twin Towers (and Pentagon, and Pennsylvania) attacks.

The World History textbook we used was “World History: The Human Experience” (copyright 1997 by McGraw-Hill, major funding by the National Geographic Society).

This text includes units on Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism. It contains smaller discussions (a couple of paragraphs at most) on Shinto and animism. Somehow, Sikhism was overlooked, appearing *only* as an identification of Indira Gandhi’s assassins in 1983.

My class covered the units on Judaism, Christianity, and Islam in depth. I was careful w/regard to the statement of faith in Islam. I didn’t read it out loud, but I did write it on the board. I cautioned them that they, too, should NOT say it out loud, because saying it out loud three times in the presence of other Muslims was considered an “official” conversion, and those who converted to (or were born into) Islam could be killed if they left or tried to leave the faith. They were shocked, one and all.

I only wish I had had THEN some of the knowledge I’ve gained in the years SINCE THEN re. Islam. I had read what was available in English up to then, but was pretty limited in sources which enabled me to expand on or contradict the textbook. 🙁

I would’ve loved to be able to contradict sentences like these:

–“Muhammad extended protection to Jews and Christians who accepted the political authority of the Islamic community” (p. 273)

–[a real howler if ever there was one] “The Quran presents the basic moral values of Islam, which are similar to those of Judaism and Christianity. Muslims are commanded to honor their parents, show kindness to their neighbors, protect orphans and widows, and give generously to the poor. Murder, stealing, lying, and adultery are condemned” (p. 275).

–Allah is described in this textbook as “an all-powerful, just, and merciful God” (p. 275).

–“The third pillar…reflects the Islamic view that the wealthy should assist the poor and weak” (p. 276). If so, why aren’t the wealthy Islamic countries opening their countries to the poor of Africa and the Mideast who are swarming Europe?

          And on and on….

But the principles on which Judaism and Christianity are founded are also set forth in this textbook. It turned out to be Very Good that we studied Christianity, even though almost all of the students in this particular class were from Christian, or at least Western, families. At least two students were visibly surprised when they learned that (Roman) Catholics are Christian! Very sad, that they were church-going and didn’t know this.

There’s enough material in this textbook for a two- or even three-year, in-depth course on World History, but we had only the one year available, so the units on the other religions weren’t reached. (But students could read anything in the text that interested them; the Index is quite good.)

I hope this sheds some light on at least one World History book, used 15 or so years ago. Islam, together with the “other” two Western religions, was already being presented to students then.

It is quite simple; feed the hungry dogs and kill the rabid dogs; that’s the humane thing to do. All Muslims should be considered to be rabid dogs who will bite the hand that feeds it at the first opportunity. Keep the Muslim refugees in the Middle East and provide them with food. Do not bring these rabid dogs into the West.

Of course they are *entrapped.* By islam and by their parents and older moslims who are gung-ho for staying a part of the beast.

Riding in the car, without any FBI agents on board, talking about it and listening to it, shows they were in favor of it and no one was “entrapping” them into doing something they didn’t wish to do.

The one older moslim, saying he had fed the young one who testified, also said they came in 1992, fleeing war, so why would his son… *why would he want to go to another one?””… Well, his son is only 22, so he had never lived in Somalia, to know war. That argument doesn’t hold water.

islam is a psychopathic, satanic beast. Anyone who wants to enable it to grow is responsible for his own actions.
And if *poverty* is to blame, more of them should work for the FBI…and make a nice bundle.

Outrage over Turk masturbating on sleeping woman on bus

There has been public outrage in Turkey after an employee at one of the country’s largest bus companies was caught masturbating on a sleeping passenger. The victim says it reflects “the oppressive environment against women” in the country.

During a journey from Muğla to İstanbul on Tuesday, a Metro Turizm bus assistant identified only by the initials C.G. is reported to have started masturbating beside a woman, known only as C.D., while she was asleep on the vehicle.

Entrapment – i.e., “I thought he was the real deal and I would get away with it”.

“I felt lonely,” he said, as the all-white jury listened.

The implication being that the jury is not “diverse” enough and that this lack of “diversity” is harmful to the defendant. Because diversity is skin-dep, you see – how many muslims are there in the jury?

“…These increasingly common charges of entrapment should be seen for what they are…”

Let’s not forget also that many thousands of young muslim born people, living in non muslim countries’ are force-ably entrapped within compliant ‘ethnic bubbles’ by their extended families and the wider immigrant muslim community. These people yearn for liberation from the shackles of traditional Islam but remain head covered and religiously observant out of fear.

This absurd idea is based on the government’s fundamental and unshakable assumption that Islam is a Religion of Peace, and that jihad terrorists are misunderstanding and misinterpreting it. So all that needs to be done is teach them the true, peaceful Islam, and all will be well, right?

The Somalis seem to harbour the very worst of immigrants quite unwilling to integrate, just look at the garb of those women. At the trial of the Somalis who trapped and raped a schoolgirl in UK, the families of the accused were shouting insults at her parents and trying to intimidate them and demonstrators outside were saying they the perpetrators were being victimised!
” the large, overwhelmingly impoverished Somali diaspora in Minneapolis, which is still reeling from a swathe of young men who left the city between 2007 and 2011 to join the terrorist group al-Shabaab and fight in Somalia”

The women on the photo are not convincing . All their body language reveal they are there at their father, brother or husband demands. They are women under inflluence.

Moreover the fact that they cover all their body is a convenient way , for their husbands, brothers or males of the family , to hide the fact we could see these persons are beaten women . By hiding all their body , no one realise en what state are their arms , legs and body .

The people of ” The Book “, follow another path. We DO NOT want to go out and reek havoc on our innocent neighbors.
BUT, The muslims are different. With minds deeply flawed and steeped in the doctrine of SATAN, they are convinced that to mindlessly murder their Non-Muslim neighbors is “their sacred duty”.
I know. To a modern mind, this is utterly INCOMPREHENSIBLE! But, that is the case.
It is so very EASY for law enforcement to find such people that thousands of agent working around the clock would be needed just to “scratch the surface”, routing out jihadists in any big city mosque! !!!
Strange, bizzar, and a very DANGEROUS SITUATION yes!
But it must be done! For safety reasons alone. Not to mention National security.

They don’t recognize that the more decent free people learn of their way of life and the Dar-al-Islam, the less appealing it is.

Yet Muslims view themselves as superior. The world has gone mad with the rush to receive Muslims into the Western world.

They have little or nothing to offer, Muslims are too high-maintenance, and they should stay home and improve their place of origin.

The media will be in full support, the judges…. I think that will depend on the amount of compensation claimed.

And so if someone showed up and started trying to cajole me into doing so, I would find him irritating, but I wouldn’t even come close to doing anything that would enable anyone to portray me as guilty of anything. Law enforcement agents were not to blame and cannot justly be held accountable for these men’s choices.”

    **Exactly**.

And this is what the prosecution should be underlining, **loud and clear**, and the judge also.

This proves that “vetting”, no matter how extensive, simply will not work. The opportunity for any muslim to become radicalized is merely a few computer clicks away. Common sense and the security of the US must come before any humanitarian granted asylum. Did the WWII generation accept thousands of Japanese “refugees” at the height of WWII? Hell no!!! There are many parallels between Japan during WWII and Islam of today. 9/11, Pearl Harbor, fanatical millitant religion, suicide bombers, kamikaze, decapitation, the rape of Nanking to name a few. Look how that generation of Americans won compared to our current generation. We are in deep, serious trouble.

I don’t see much room for entrapment here, the conspiracy had already been hatched. It’s not like the FBI had concocted the plan from whole cloth and presented it to a group of Somali muslims. And how do you entrap 10 men? it’s so unlikely as to be laughable. It’s not poverty, they weren’t tricked, they’re just brainwashed little pr*cks wanting to kill for their faith. And it’s too bad so many are unemployed, I mean for the community. We’re supporting them and this is thanks we get. CAIR MN accuses us of “islamophobia” while members of their constituency plan murder for allah, which comes as no surprise because this is what good muslims are supposed to do–JIHAD. But we’re the bad guys for talking the truth about islam, we’re the islamophobes that don’t understand their “faith.” No, I understand it all too well. That’s why I’m concerned.

Many Muslims are merely waiting to be invited to join the jihad, because they already believe that jihad terrorism is mandated by Allah in the 164 jihad verses in the Koran.

15% of Muslims (that is about one in six) self-declare in surveys as approving terrorist groups. That means that worldwide as many as 300 m Muslims are thinking about conducting jihad. It is relatively easy to find Muslims who will participate in jihad terrorism for ‘religious’ reasons…for ‘the cause of Allah’.

I like the sign our deranged Fyodor Karamazov is holding. BTW: What does “moderate” mean? It means something in the middle between two extremes. Can you name the two extremes in Islam that “moderate Islam” moderates between? If one extreme is “we’re gonna kill ya!” and “moderates” are “we’re not gonna kill ya,” it’s not moderate, is it? Name the two extremes.

What is that a ‘moderate’ supremacist wants?

      • Jerry says

        May 29, 2016 at 11:35 am

I think a full-blown supremacist is one that sticks the knife in all the way, while a “moderate” only sticks it in half-way. But in the end they both want the same thing, us dead or subjugated. I see it somewhat like mob violence, where the worst perpetrators are encouraged by the rest. Any one of them could act to stave the death and destruction, but instead feed the flames of hate and bigotry with indifference or tacit approval. Moderates play the devil’s music with their beliefs, and after the killers dance that tune they feign innocence. But it’s worse than this, because the cultural and religious traditions that moderates maintain manifests in many different ways in society, the terrorists are only the most poignant expression of that violent, supremacist ideology. Enclaves, rape, sexual mutilation, honor killings, acid in the face, misogyny, and other forms of hate and bigotry, these are also products of islam’s bigoted ideas.

I’m pretty sure you’d agree, the term “moderate” provides no comfort to those of us faced with cultural annihilation and loss of freedoms. A moderate death is no less complete than one filled with drama. I don’t want a nation that is “moderately” safe and secure with human rights and freedom. I want one that is fully dedicated to equal rights and safety for all, white, black, religious, atheist, and everyone else in between. Only then can we be truly “multicultural.” Islam is against this and therefore cannot be a part of that future.

Close those d*mn mosques. They are like poison mushrooms on the landscape.

    • WorkingClassPost says

      May 29, 2016 at 10:31 am

      That’s a very good question.

My guess is that a moderate is one who will only kill some of us, maybe just the men, and the women can live as dhimmi’s or slaves, perhaps.

“US district judge Michael Davis, the senior jurist presiding over the case, has recruited a German de-radicalization researcher, Dr Daniel Koehler, to evaluate each of the young men who agree to take part in a program of deradicalization….”

Mr. Koehler is an individual with no evident understanding of Islam, the texts and teachings and fourteen centuries of history, in fact, he compares Islamic “radicalization” with his experience with neo-Nazis, in an NPR interview. Here is some of his clueless methodology, and you can see how effective it is going to be with pious young Muslims wanting to do their obligatory Jihad Fisabilillah:

“First of all, I try to identify my risk assessment, the stage within the radicalization process, if there is any. And then I try to figure out the individual driving factors, what I call the radicalization recipe. It’s a combination of positive and negative aspects. Positive aspects like quest for significance, justice, help, poor, defend, women and children, Syria, delivering humanitarian aid. So this is a very strong positive urge. The negative aspects – lack of perspective, problems in family, problems in school, and their employment, whatever – they have not felt that they are part of a society. And these positive and negative aspects are bound together by radical ideology.

“If there’s a conflict in family, you help the family to avoid conflicts to solve any particular argumentation, fighting, debating within the family. You give them the tools to de-escalate the situation. For example, if they have a quest for justice and want to help people in Syria, I would, for example, recommend to the family why not helping your son and daughter collecting funds through a legitimate foundation?”

There are Muslims who sit on the sidelines, there are those who follow the letter of Sharia law; there are no moderate Muslims. Islamic law uses the authority of the Qur’an, hadith, and scholarly consensus to assure the rule. The rule in Islamic law is that Allah sent Muhammad to deliver his message to the entire world, superseding and abrogating all previous religious systems. Doctrinal authority for the abrogation of other religions comes from the Qur’an and hadith and is stated in Islamic law. It then this rule holds, religious and political reconciliation may be beyond Islam’s capability. Paraphrase from Stephen Coughlin.
