FGM is sanctioned by Islamic law: “Circumcision is obligatory (for every male and female) (by cutting off the piece of skin on the glans of the penis of the male, but circumcision of the female is by cutting out the bazr ‘clitoris’ [this is called khufaadh ‘female circumcision’]).” — ‘Umdat al-Salik e4.3, translated by Mark Durie, The Third Choice, p. 64
“Bohra cleric urges female genital mutilation?,” by Mohua Das, Times of India, April 29, 2016 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):
MUMBAI: Efforts may be on to end the practice of female genital mutilation that young girls in the Dawoodi Bohra community are made to undergo in India but their spiritual leader may not be convinced yet as he went on to publicly encourage the act of khatna (female circumcision) albeit indirectly, in his recent sermon at the Saifee Mosque in Bhendi Bazaar.
A four-minute audio clip from Syedna Muffadal Saifuddin’s bayaan (speech) on the occasion of the 51st Syedna Taher Saifuddin’s death anniversary, has gone viral over a mobile messaging app and generated conversations within the community on how the Syedna’s endorsement may urge close followers of the spiritual head to continue with the painful practice.
The clip begins with a plea from the Syedna speaking in a mix of Gujarati and Urdu. “We should keep our things strong, stay firm. Even the big sovereign states, whatever it is they say, if it makes any difference to our things, then we are not prepared to understand!” he says and then adds. “The act has to happen! If it is a man, then it is right, it can be openly done, but if it is a woman then it must be done discreetly, but then the act has to be done. Please understand what I am trying to talk about…”
A Mumbai resident present at the Hussaini Mosque where the sermon was being beamed live on a giant screen confirmed that the clip was what he had heard being broadcast. “The Syedna was reading from a script which is usually the routine on such an occasion but all of a sudden he went off and started talking in a cryptic fashion. It was confusing at first. Then we gradually realized that he was talking about female circumcision when he used words like amal (act), mamlakat (states) and that the act must be carried out discreetly for women and openly for men. It was very disturbing for me and my wife,” he told TOI. A close friend of the Syedna family dismissed such an interpretation of the Syedna’s speech when TOI called him. “It was a general comment. Nothing specific. People are interpreting it differently,” he said alleging that, “Those close to the new claimant to the Syedna title are trying to target our revered Syedna (Muffadal Saifuddin).”
A 36-year-old Bohra woman who has lived through the horrors of khatna and currently settled in the US expressed her anguish having heard the clip. “Just a month ago many of us in the US received a letter from the jamaat (local community unit) that works under the Syedna’s guidelines. It said that we must follow the law of the land and not practice khatna. I was thrilled, at peace with my faith. What I just heard reflects hypocrisy. I’m disillusioned and worried.”

In Islam women are not supposed to enjoy sex, so they are in essence the tool of male masturbation. Interestingly for many centuries the Catholic church held that sex was a sin following the dictates of st Augustine.
Carolyne says
It is still referred to as “The Original Sin.”
Kathy Brown, Esq. says
The Church does not now, nor did She ever, teach that sex was ‘original sin’. The original sin was disobedience to God’s commandment not to eat of the ‘Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil’.
Instead, sex was from the first ordained by God; for married couples that is. ‘Be fruitful and multiply’ was God’s commandment-quite a good thing.
However Augustine did take a rather dim view of sex, no doubt about it! In the ‘Confessions’ which he authored, he details his wild-and-crazy life before his conversion; and having been a young man during that time (he did not convert until his early 30’s) sexual sin was, so to say, his ‘bete noire’.
As to this revolting geriatric pervert above, well, just look at him. He can’t wait to rape his next 7 year old victim. With allah’s (Satan’s) blessing of course.

To show the true equality of women under Islam, any Imam requiring circumcision of the female by cutting out the bazr “clitoris” should have his biological equivalent cut out in the same fashion.

That’s all nice and dandy, but it tells us nothing regarding whether or not Bohras practice FGM. Which apparently they do. That they allegedly never touched Umdat al Salik once in their life doesn’t mean they don’t practice what’s written there.

Wellington says
Sick old bastard. FGM is barbaric while male circumcision is quite defensible on medical grounds alone. Cancer of the penis is rare but there has never been a diagnosed and recorded instance of it in a circumcised male. Moreover, male circumcision doesn’t in any way interfere with sexual pleasure or urination while FGM is quite often a guarantee to do one or the other or both. No comparison. The one is sick and control-freak stuff and the other is innocuous and even medically sound.
Mark Swan says
The whole purpose of FGM is an attempt to destroy the female sexual experience…
leaving the woman out of the picture…and still allowing a male to use that woman.

God compares his Church with the human relationship. The whole love affair between God and the people is a mutual adoration like a husband and wife becoming one. Islam does not understand this concept at all. It is beyond them. Their Allah is concerned about one being, and one being only- Allah. Not human kind. Allah sees Muslims as minions to have POWER OVER, not for or with. Even Paradise is for men with no interaction with God. Just physical gratification. Jesus exposed himself to the world in the most intimate of all things;public death. We are his Bride. This is all about relationships and intimacy. Something Muslim men nor women have no concept of. Islam is the epitome of SELF ADORATION.
Carolyne says
Frankly, I don’t understand your concept either.
Mark Swan says
I understand Your comment linnte…Muslim Men and Women are a mess.
Kathy Brown, Esq. says
How beautifully put Linnte. Your Christianity is showing!
You struck to the heart of the matter-islam has no ‘heart’.
Judaism and Christianity, with their personal God Who interests Himself in the affairs of his children-it is not even as if these religions speak a different language! It is that islam is deaf altogether. So of course there is not only no compassion; there is pleasure in pain, in torture: of all living things, animals, captives, and first and foremost those who should be most dear, one’s wife; one’s children…
And this profound deafness: It illuminates something else too, the oft-asked question, ‘Why do the neighboring muslim countries take in NONE of the migrant musims?’ Here too: There is no concept, none whatever, of love of neighbor. The [unholy] koran has no parable of the Good Samaritan; no ‘Forgive others as I have forgiven you’; no Good Thief on the cross beside Jesus, forgiven at the last moment, who is promised-in Christ’s last gasping breath- ‘This day you shall be with me in paradise’.
No-there is nothing of that, nothing.
And I would like to remind Linnte: Did you not worry about how you would ‘explain’ things such as these? To muslims; to anybody? But look at what’s happened! You’ve not only got no trouble doing this; you are eloquent! You just wrote: ‘The whole love affair between God and His people is a mutual adoration, as between a husband and wife.’ Yes? That was you writing that, was it not? With a little help, of course, from the Holy Ghost?
I don’t know when I’ve seen that so perfectly put.

Thanks Kathy! It’s from the old Testament. My Grandmother read the Bible at the dinner table EVERY night before dinner. If the Book, (like Song of Solomon) was too long, she divided it up, but it was wonderful to learn from. And because her excellent cooking was the reward if good listening, I listened well. So, while we ate, she’d ask us questions about what she read. I don’t remember the actual words, but I remember the concepts well. And she and granddad were still in love till they day they died. I think I got lucky! And Holy Spirit gives me prompts I think. That’s possible, yes? So, I have heard the whole Bible, at one point or another. I spent summers working on their farm. Can’t wait to see them again some day.

“Cancer of the penis is rare but there has never been a diagnosed and recorded instance of it in a circumcised male.”
A bald faced lie, unfortunately. A cursory Google search will make it clear that per capita, the largely cut US male population suffers this malady far more often than their overwhelmingly intact European and non-Muslim Asian counterparts. More men get breast cancer, and since it’s a rare old man’s disease to begin with, it’s hardly justification to irreversibly alter the body of a child who cannot consent.
As for the rest of your spurious post, the essential point that you seem to be missing is that forced genital cutting isn’t a pissing contest–the same rights are violated, regardless of the victim’s gender or the spectrum of tragic outcomes.
That aside, since no one had so much as brought up the topic of male circ before you did, I’m genuinely curious why you felt the need to do so in the first place. Protest too much, perhaps?

Some people have said that it’s harder for circumcised males to get STD’s than uncircumcised ones…anyone care to comment?
Carolyne says
Male circumcism is going out of fashion. It foo is a barbaric torture.
Mark Swan says
While some well-meaning people consider male circumcision barbaric, medical science shows that circumcised little boys have a reduced risk of urinary infections, circumcised men have lower rates of cancer of the penis and women married to circumcised men have much lower rates of cervical cancer!
Kathy Brown, Esq. says
That is all true Mark. I learned that in Nursing School. And I have seen it borne out in my patients when I was a nurse.
linnte says
The prepuce on a male does not prevent STD’s. Because during intercource, the penis is extended past that piece of skin. Circumscision can affect the sensation in the glans(the poofy part at the end)if the circumscision is done wrong and too much tissue is removed. But it’s not usual. Some young boys who have not been circumcised, may have a painful first erection or first sex, because the prepuce has never been retracted past the glans. If a practitioner notices that the prepuce is too tight at the opening, he/she may encourage the parent doing diaper changes to pull down the prepuce in an attempt to get the glans through, gradually, so to stretch it out. Under the glans of an uncircumcised man is a substance called sphigma, which is a natural anti bacterial. This actually helps prevent bladder infections or infections of the glans, unless it is not cleaned during bathing and too much builds up. Then it is counterproductive and smelly!
There is really no medical evidence for circumscision except preventing a painful first intercourse. I think it is the only thing that I have come across in the Bible that doesn’t make sense to me, any way. I mean, why did God have Abraham do that? Probably just an obedience thing, or maybe a clear sign to others that they are Jews?
Anyway. The need for circumscision today, is not relevant per my medical training, except to distinguish a Jew/Christian from heathens. I personally think it’s barbaric ? Linnte RN

It is in fact, men who are circumcised as babies who are less likely to suffer penile cancer, or STD’s.
”As for the rest of your spurious post, the essential point that you seem to be missing is that forced genital cutting isn’t a pissing contest–the same rights are violated, regardless of the victim’s gender or the spectrum of tragic outcomes.”
There is nothing ‘spurious’ about Wellington’s post. *I* am curious as to why you feel the need to be so arrogantly rude.
Wellington’s point was quite clear. Male circumcision doesn’t prevent normal urination, or prevent sexual pleasure, or sexual reproduction. Female genital mutilation *does*. *That* is the essential point. That being said, I don’t approve of male circumcision, unless there is a medical reason for it, but there is no way you can compare the two, in terms of suffering.
”That aside, since no one had so much as brought up the topic of male circ before you did, I’m genuinely curious why you felt the need to do so in the first place. Protest too much, perhaps?”
It is perfectly logical to bring up male circumcision in relation to female genital mutilation, and to point out the essential differences between the two. I think it’s *you* who are protesting too much. Why ?
Further, I note you have made no comment on the vile practice of FGM, except to say, ”forced genital cutting isn’t a pissing contest–the same rights are violated, regardless of the victim’s gender or the spectrum of tragic outcomes.”
I find it extraordinary you can say it is **regardless** of gender, or the outcomes. In fact, it’s a pretty damn stupid thing to say.

Jan. 6, 2011 — Circumcising men can reduce cervical cancer risk in women, a new study shows.
The study involved more than 1,200 HIV-negative, heterosexual couples living in Uganda, where circumcision of male adults is increasingly encouraged as a means of slowing the spread of HIV/AIDS.
Half the men received the surgical procedure at enrollment and the other half were scheduled for circumcision after their participation in the trial ended.
Two years later, the female partners of the men who remained uncircumcised were more likely than the partners of the circumcised men to be infected with human papilloma virus (HPV) types most often associated with cervical cancer.
In earlier trials, Johns Hopkins University researcher Aaron A.R. Tobian, MD, PhD, and colleagues showed that male circumcision reduces HIV infection, HPV in men, and genital herpes.
Wellington says
You have no idea what you are talking about, Just A Concerned Citizen. And what cursory Google Search? Take a look at the American Cancer Society site on this and you will find that while there has been a change in thinking that circumcised males many not have a lower risk of penile cancer after all (this is still very much debated however) there is NO evidence that circumcised males have a higher risk. I will refer you to Miirren’s and vicki’s posts above which further substantiate my original post and the benefits of male circumcision. Reconsider.

Rape isnt about sexual gratification, mostly. It is about power over, and the inability to see other people as important or equal to oneself. It is the ultimate show of power over the victim and it is meant to break the spirit. Put a man who has empathy toward humanity in a situation where he is commanded to rape and it won’t happen because his ability to get an erection is not there. Trust me, I know.
Aussie Infidel says
The on-line version of the ‘Reliance of the Traveller’ (‘Umdat al-Salik’), states:
“e4.3 Circumcision is obligatory (0: for both men and women. For men it consists of removing the prepuce from the penis, and for women, removing the prepuce (Ar. bazr) of the clitoris (n: not the clitoris itself, as some mistakenly assert). (A: Hanbalis hold that circumcision of women is not obligatory but sunna, while Hanafis consider it a mere courtesy to the husband.)”
But unfortunately, many Muslims who perform these procedures have never read the Sharia, but do so according to hearsay form their predecessors. Consequently many young girls who are ‘cut’, often by unqualified backyard operators, suffer dreadful problems as a result. Circumcision for both men and women predates Islam, and is also still practised by other cultures today. However, since it has been codified as an obligation in Sharia law, it is regarded by most Muslims as a family duty to uphold the faith. Such is the power of religious indoctrination.
This abhorent practice will only cease in Islamic countries when Muslim clerics issue a fatwah forbidding it entirely – but I don’t see that happening anytime soon. In the West, we now have laws against FGM, but in many cases, they are not enforced.
herve jaubert says
Muslim men believe that men only are allowed to enjoy sexual pleasure. The woman is only to provide sexual pleasure to her man, and not the other way around. If women could enjoy sex, they could even seek it with someone else, especially because muslim men are poor lovers. By removing the clitoris, they prevent or at least limit considerably the woman desire to have sex, so men don’t have to bother going through the effort to satisfy their wives

Female genital mutilation has been widely practiced in Egypt and Sudan among all religions since ancient times, when it was called Pharaonic circumcision. The majority of Coptic Christian women in Egypt, as well as Muslims, undergo clitoridectomy. This unfortunate practice seems to be historically rooted in the cultures of this region. Widespread FGM is well-documented to predate both Islam and Christianity, and so cannot be blamed on either, except to the extent that religious leaders could do more to eradicate the practice. See the excellent article on FGM in Wikipedia for further facts.

So your point is that it is OK because it has been practiced for centuries? It is not OK no matter how long or who did it. Period. And certainly many practices in play in the ancient world are not practiced today by civilized peoples, the exception being Islam with has not and does not desire to change. Crucifiction, too, was an ancient practice which now is only is practiced by Allah’s “people.” Few cultures practice polygamy today. It doesn’t matter how long a practice has been in use or by whom. This is wrong and is misogynistic.
Ver Auger says
I did not say that FGM is OK! I reported the historical fact that it unfortunately seems to be endemic among people of all religions in Egypt and Sudan, including Egyptian Christians. The origins of FGM cannot be blamed on any of the monotheistic religions of the area because it predates them. My point is this: you cannot eradicate a barbaric and evil custom unless you educate yourself about how deeply it is ingrained in the local cultures. FGM was practiced there before the birth of Jesus, and was reported by ancient Roman and Greek chroniclers with the same degree of horror and amazement that we feel when we see parents doing this to their daughters. Make no mistake, I oppose FGM.

He included the wives of visiting leaders and showed his power over th leaders by raping their wives and daughters knowing they could do nothing. Soraya, the young girl was raped forced to drink alcohol, use cocaine, watch pornography to learn what The Guide [Gaddafi] likes. Muslim men are handicapped in a first place because of chopping off the skin from their thingy. They are stripped off of the most sensitive part of man’s body, and that is why, biologically and mentally, they can’t be sexually satisfied. Plus, a big kitchen knife can make her staying a lifetime looking like a six year old girl, so she has a bigger market prize: her husband loves her better mutilated and without anything to grow into something that he anyway doesn’t have to fill with-in..

Such ignorance also at least partially defeats the fully justified criticism of female circumcision which is indeed barbaric and ordinarily has many ill consequences. I mean, after all, if A is wrong and B is not wrong but a person argues that both A and B are wrong, then this waters down the argument against A, especially when it is shown that B is not wrong at all, thus calling into question the credibility of that person’s argument against A.
If you doubt me about male circumcision, which should NEVER be classed with female circumcision as a negative, Google “Mayo Clinic on male circumcision” which will point out several benefits of male circumcision, three of them being less likelihood to get a urinary tract infection, less likelihood to get an STD and less likelihood to get penile cancer. There is no comparison between the barbaric FGM and typical male circumcision.
However in the interest of full disclosure there may in fact be some minor differences in sexual pleasure and ease after male circumcision but in no way in comparison to FGM
The Minor point and technicality I refer to can be looked up online.
I will attempt to explain without getting too specific in detail.
1 — Male circumcision has an advantage of easier to air dry.
2 — Uncircumcised males have better motion sailing the ocean and daily stroking.
Please consult Google for details
As I said the difference is minor

Such brutal, cruel and outright vicious butchery of F.G M. exposes the extreme and ruthless misogyny that is so,much , within the spite of Islam. Nevertheless the propagandists for Islam still have the gall to say that “Islam is a religion the respects the rights of females” Such a blatantly false statement in not only what’s called “disinformation.” but it’s also a lie and proof that anyone can make claim about anything regardless of how false that claim may be.

But wait! FGM isn’t an islamic problem, it’s a central african problem.of christian countries. Scholar Reza Aslan says so!
Panmelia says
It has been known to be practised in African Christian communities, much to the shame of the Roman Catholic church, which should have wiped it out. It isn’t a Christian problem at all, being unknown in any country where Christians live except ones in Africa.
The vast, overwhelming majority of little girl mutilators reside in 3rd world non-Christian countries, in other words, where mudslimes live. That’s because they’re backward, stupid and cruel.

And I must say: I love how many of us on these sites have gotten to know each other! Although we will all probably never meet, it is as if we get to be together, so to say, in our love of country and our horror at islam…

I absolutely adore most folks here! The talk is uplifting and I have learned BOATLOADS of stuff! Including about a study done that shows cervical cancer is more prevalent in women who have uncircumcised partners! Hahahaha! I am so very fond of you all. And I don’t think there are a smarter group of bloggers anywhere! Robert Spencer sets the tone and example.

What is not said is this, after cutting away the female parts they have to sew up the women, I mean sew up everything and leave an opening for urine and menstrual to leave the body, that’s right sew up the opening to the vagina as a means to protect the virtue of women and cause extreme pain on a wedding night as they are forbidden to have any procedure to open the vagina as not to compromise her virginity.

When I was a nurse I saw the sequellae of FGM. Here they are:
1. chronic cystitis (urinary tract infections)-high level infections. When you have lots of these, you have ascending infection. Leads to renal failure.
2. dyspareunia- pain/agony during intercourse, and after. Chronic inflammation of the perineal area.
3. pyometritis-uterine infections. When chronic, these lead to uterine cancer.
4. polyuria, oliguria-frequent urination, and scanty urination. The bladder is never quite emptied, thus it becomes a cistern for infection.
Now most of the ladies here have had simple uti’s (they’re more common in women because of our anatomy). Obviously: The mechanics of sex are such that the urinary meatus (opening) is directly adjacent to the vagina.
And ladies: We all know how painful these things are, am I right? The burning sensation whenever one urinates. Then chills and flank pain. The only treatment is antibiotic therapy, and that leads to immunity to the MOST effective antibiotics (Bactrim, Keflex, etc.).
Yes: FGM is the atrocity that never stops giving.
