The Mayor wanted no public discussion of “possible links to terrorism.” My latest in FrontPage:
The Boston Globe reported last Friday that Christopher Louras, mayor of the small Vermont city of Rutland, “has unveiled a plan, developed in near-secrecy, to resettle 100 Syrian refugees who fled the onslaught of the Islamic State and are exiled in sprawling Jordanian camps.” The plan will “gradually send Rutland more Syrian refugees than are currently living anywhere else in New England.” While the Globe is clearly pleased at Rutland’s “instant cultural diversity for Rutland,” the secrecy of the project sounded a sour note. Why should such a glorious act of “diversity” and “multiculturalism” have to be planned out in secret?
Yet instead of having a frank public discussion about the plan to bring in the migrants, according to the Globe, “months-long discussions about whether to invite the Syrians were limited to the mayor, a small circle of city and business leaders, and a nonprofit resettlement agency. The president of the Board of Aldermen, who knew about the effort, did not tell his colleagues until a day or two before Louras announced the plans at an April 26 news conference.”
Board of Alderman President William Notte explained cryptically: “There was no benefit to anyone to spread the knowledge.” No benefit? Why not? Louras was more forthcoming than Notte: the Globe stated that he “made no apologies for excluding the public from the planning. If the proposal had been floated earlier, the mayor said, the debate would have become ‘about them’ — meaning the Syrians, their culture, and possible links to terrorism — instead of whether the city had the means to accommodate the refugees.”
Yes, and we can’t possibly have a public discussion about whether the migrants have possible links to terrorism. That would be “Islamophobic.”
Louras also states that “the benefits, economically and culturally, that we will recognize is exactly what the community needs at this time.” The Globe then notes that the mayor is “the grandson of a Greek immigrant who fled the Ottoman Turks a century ago.”
This little detail puts this whole affair in a most interesting light: Louras almost certainly thinks that the Muslim migrants he is bringing to Rutland are the modern iteration of his grandfather or grandmother, fleeing from oppression in the old country to freedom in a new land. In reality, Louras isn’t bringing to Rutland people like his refugee grandparent. He is bringing in people who are much more like – in beliefs and outlook – the Ottoman Turks from which his grandparent was fleeing. It has almost certainly not entered Louras’ mind that any of the people he is bringing to his town might share the world view and aspirations and goals of those who drove his grandparents out of Ottoman Turkey. Inconceivable!
Unfortunately, it is all too conceivable. Ahmad al-Mohammed and one other of the jihadis who murdered 130 people in Paris in November 2015 had just entered Europe as refugees.
In February 2015, the Islamic State boasted it would soon flood Europe with as many as 500,000 refugees. And the Lebanese Education Minister said in September 2015 that there were 20,000 jihadis among the refugees in camps in his country. Meanwhile, 80% of migrants who have come to Europe claiming to be fleeing the war in Syria aren’t really from Syria at all.
So why are they claiming to be Syrian and streaming into Europe, and now the U.S. as well? An Islamic State operative gave the answer when he boasted in September 2015, shortly after the migrant influx began, that among the flood of refugees, 4,000 Islamic State jihadis had already entered Europe. He explained their purpose: “It’s our dream that there should be a caliphate not only in Syria but in all the world, and we will have it soon, inshallah.” These Muslims were going to Europe in the service of that caliphate: “They are going like refugees,” he said, but they were going with the plan of sowing blood and mayhem on European streets. As he told this to journalists, he smiled and said, “Just wait.”
Will they be waiting in Rutland?

If I lived in that town, I would be looking for a new mayor…

If I live in that town, I would be looking for a Glock 19, Colt R-15, and lots of ammo/magazines. Also a dozen like minded, stout hearted, Christian people with similar views.
PRCS says
Just Christian people, Zeke?
Jews aren’t imperiled by “the believers”?
How about agnostics and atheists?
Islam teaches hatred of ALL others.

How “Christian” of you. I am sure Jesus would be pround of your generosity.

Where did he say he was a Christian, and who appointed you Jesus’s spokeswoman? While you are at it, tell us where in scripture that is is a sin to prevent someone from raping your wife, mother or daughter.

If I lived in that town, I would be putting the house up for sale before property values plummet due to rising violent crime and get out of town fast.
LR says
I think it’s too late for that now. I heard the other day someone had their house for sale there, for two yrs. already. This certainly won’t make it any better.

May be a nice time to organize like minded souls to “welcome” your new masters. Make sure “nothing” happens to them. Invite the bike clubs. I bet these guys would love a ride. Suggest it might be better for them to pick a bigger city with job prospects in their fields.
I suggest a fund to send them to Germany.. Tell the Merk will give each one 10,000 Euros when they come.
This mess is the UN and approved by an enemy of America in the muslim house.

Vermont? Bernie Sanders and Howard Dean land with Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream. Hope the refugees and inhabitants fight each other to the death.

That’s a disgusting thing to wish for. Sick.

Unfortunately, it’s what is coming. Free men & women won’t tolerate tyranny, slavery, oppression of natural human rights and genocide.
History of Islam proves that that’s exactly what Islam brings.

There just had to be a money trail here, somewhere. These local politicians would not just trash their own future as political “leaders” for nothing! Some where there was a pay off. And likely a big one!
These guys obviously know how the local VOTERS feel about this “sensitive issue”. No one is going to want to be living with in spitting distance of these forth world barbarians. The Vermont folks I’ve known will likely NEVER vote for these traitors again!

This mayor and his cronies are not as stupid as they pretend.
The muzzie template is to attack elsewhere, and keep their safe space for plotting and organising, and then lying low after their atrocities (those who get away).
So it’s the poor schmucks further away who get the’benefit’ of islam.
This mayor will be long gone before the consequences of this decision are known, but then, they might all turn out OK.
But since when did a poxy local official get to make such life-threatening decisions in secret.
Let’s hope our new mayor of London doesn’t get any ideas like this.
Annak says
This is the problem we face. Not only the top elites are forcing Muslims on us but ” poxy officials” And of course our leftists do-gooding fellow-citizens who agree and who vote for i.e. Khan.He is now poncing around as if he is PM !
And for the Muslim Mayor of Rotterdam who has now been approached to take leadership of the failing Dutch Labour party. They learned from London I suppose how they can increase popularity, muslims, muslims muslims in the highest offices??

Christians flee from the Middle East and assimilate. Muslims infiltrate from the Middle East and do not assimilate. Huge difference, which is lost on Louras and his few “associates” who hatched this foolish plan in secret, and which furtive underrtaking demonstrates in microcosm the huge chasm which is continuing to develop between the people at large in any Western nation and those who are in charge in the West, from the national level down to the most local level.
Angemon says
Indeed.

I wasn’t able to pull the article up–restricted to paid subscriptions–but here’s a headline from the Rutland Herald:
“Foes seek a public vote on refugees
Opponents of refugee resettlement hope to force a vote on the subject.
Date: 05/17/16”
As one can imagine, at least some of the natives aren’t happy about this.

Is there a local chapter of ACT for America in Rutland, Vermont?
If there isn’t… then the *nearest* chapter needs to sift any related news stories and reports to find out who in Rutland, Vermont, is protesting *against* this proposal, and get in touch with them, about *creating* a chapter.
A further line to pursue: imagine if Rutland, Vermont, or other similarly-afflicted towns, were to stand up and say, “NO Muslims, but we are more than happy to accept bona fide background-checked Assyrian *Christians*, as well as Yazidis and Mandaeans”. And find out about Barnabas Fund’s “Operation Safe Havens”, circulate this information through all the local churches, and put pressure on the relevant Congresspersons.
If lots and lots of little towns – especially in the more ‘bible belt’ regions of the USA – were to stand up and state that they wish to be part of **rescuing Assyrian Christians (whether from ‘Syria’ or “iraq’) from **genocide** and are happy to also rescue Yazidis and Mandaeans – then that might send a message.
Personally, I do not see why the majority-christian countries that are still not formally governed by outright Muslims should not do for the Christians of Iraq and Syria what the Israelis did for the *Jews* of those very same regions, some decades ago: “Operation Magic Carpet” or “Operation Exodus” or “Operation Eagles Wings”. If there are not enough of the Assyrian and related Christians left in that region to be able to maintain and defend a ‘Christian Kosovo’, a sovereign – Muslim-free, it would *have* to be entirely Muslim free – enclave/ mini-state somewhere in part of their traditional lands, and if neither Russia nor the USA has the will or the imagination to create and guarantee such an enclave/ mini-state, then the only other option, if these people are to survive at all, is for them to be gotten outta Dodge altogether, and FAST.
Imagine if, all over the west, instead of hundreds of thousands of menacing and multiplying Mohammedans, towns like Rutland, Vermont, were taking in thousands of … fervently-believing and hardworking and delighted-to-be-here Assyrian Christians, who would work hard, raise families, learn the languages, and … build and fill new *churches* (or, as Copts have done in Australia, find old churches and repair them and fill them up with people again).
If a few thousand Assyrian Christians were received into Rutland, Vermont, what would happen would be… just one or two more churches, perhaps with slightly different decor and music, but perfectly recognisable, and celebrating Christmas and Easter loudly and joyfully right alongside the existing churches. And the Department of Homeland Security wouldn’t need to worry that said churches were ‘radicalising’ young people.. because ‘radicalisation’ in the case of an Assyrian Chaldean Catholic church = a new monastery or convent filled with monks and nuns!

The ignorance of our leaders is dangerous and incomprehensible.
Why bring in Muslims into Judeo-Christian countries when we know that most of them don’t integrate and ever more become terrorists? Rob Wainright, Europol director, said already some time ago that already 3-5,000 terrorists had arrived in Europe. Heaven knows how many have gone to the US and other Christian countries. This is mass suicide.
Christians are the most vulnerable, the most persecuted group in the world. They are even attacked in refugee cfamps, and this not only in the Middloe East but also in Germany and Sweden! So why don’t our leaders want to bring in Christians?
The EU Counci and Parliament as well as the US Congress have admitted that Christians are suffering genocide, yet the leaders, politicians, media and Christian Churches are silent. Even the Pope doesn’t give a hott. This is truly driving me to despair.
Holo.
