How refreshing and unusual: a balanced report of one of a talk by a foe of jihad terror. Contrast the CBC report here.
“Political Islam critic Robert Spencer’s Calgary talk: Smeared by lefty media, welcomed by normal people,” by Sheila Gunn Reid, The Rebel, May 2, 2016:
Controversial Author Robert Spencer was in Calgary last week to give a talk at an event hosted by the newly founded Calgary chapter of the Jewish Defence League.
Robert Spencer is only really controversial because he is a vocal critic of radical Islam. He doesn’t say anything hateful. He’s factual. Spencer’s speeches and writings frequently cite the Koran and the teachings of Islamic leaders. If you want to know what radical Islamists advocate, look to their book. Makes sense to me.
Security was tight at the Calgary event but the room was packed. People from all different religions and backgrounds were there to listen to Spencer talk about how the Western world is failing to address the threat of radical, political Islam. Of, course, the leftist media had a field day with the mere fact that Spencer’s feet touched the ground in Calgary.
Before a word had even left Spencer’s mouth, the Calgary Herald had sought Imam Syed Soharwardy for comment. Soharwardy told the Herald that Spencer’s mere presence and words would cause a fracture in the faith community in Calgary. Perhaps Soharwardy and his fact averse ilk need a safe space from Spencer’s truths.
CBC was just as bad. Of course. They ran to Soharwardy, too. They did their best to smear the JDL as terrorists and Spencer as an “anti-muslim blogger”. Spencer is a best selling author and expert on political Islam. CBC would have you think he is a hate preacher.
I was there and Soharwardy wasn’t. I didn’t see division. I saw unity between Jews and Gentiles against the threat of fundamental Mohammadism.
