Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

Surprise! After secret talks, tiny Vermont town gets 100 Muslim migrants

May 13, 2016 9:41 am By Robert Spencer

“Louras made no apologies for excluding the public from the planning. If the proposal had been floated earlier, the mayor said, the debate would have become ‘about them’ — meaning the Syrians, their culture, and possible links to terrorism — instead of whether the city had the means to accommodate the refugees.”

Yes, and we can’t possibly have a public discussion about whether the migrants have possible links to terrorism. That would be “Islamophobic.”

“’The benefits, economically and culturally, that we will recognize is exactly what the community needs at this time,’ said Louras, the grandson of a Greek immigrant who fled the Ottoman Turks a century ago.” It has almost certainly not entered Louras’ mind that any of the people he is bringing to his town might share the world view and aspirations and goals of those who drove his grandparents out of Ottoman Turkey. Inconceivable!

Meanwhile, back in the real world, Ahmad al-Mohammed and one other of the jihadis who murdered 130 people in Paris in November 2015 had just entered Europe as refugees.

In February 2015, the Islamic State boasted it would soon flood Europe with as many as 500,000 refugees. And the Lebanese Education Minister said in September 2015 that there were 20,000 jihadis among the refugees in camps in his country. Meanwhile, 80% of migrants who have come to Europe claiming to be fleeing the war in Syria aren’t really from Syria at all.

So why are they claiming to be Syrian and streaming into Europe, and now the U.S. as well? An Islamic State operative gave the answer when he boasted in September 2015, shortly after the migrant influx began, that among the flood of refugees, 4,000 Islamic State jihadis had already entered Europe. He explained their purpose: “It’s our dream that there should be a caliphate not only in Syria but in all the world, and we will have it soon, inshallah.” These Muslims were going to Europe in the service of that caliphate: “They are going like refugees,” he said, but they were going with the plan of sowing blood and mayhem on European streets. As he told this to journalists, he smiled and said, “Just wait.”

Will they be waiting in Rutland?

Chris Louras

“Vermont city prepares for Syrian refugees with welcome, wariness,” by Craig F. Walker, Boston Globe, May 13, 2016:

RUTLAND, Vt. — Marble quarries known the world over once attracted immigrants to this small city tucked beside the Green Mountains. Now, a simple quest for peace and safety is beckoning a new group.

Mayor Christopher Louras has unveiled a plan, developed in near-secrecy, to resettle 100 Syrian refugees who fled the onslaught of the Islamic State and are exiled in sprawling Jordanian camps.

If approved by the State Department and others, the resettlement would begin in October and gradually send Rutland more Syrian refugees than are currently living anywhere else in New England.

The influx would be a jolt of instant cultural diversity for Rutland, where there are no mosques and no other Syrian immigrants. Most residents appear ready to welcome the refugees, mindful of the harrowing images of Syrians desperately seeking refuge outside their ravaged country.

“They have nowhere to live,” said Jerry Dubeau, a 59-year-old who supports the move. “That’s what this country is all about. We’re all from somewhere else.”

But mingled with good wishes has been a touch of fear, and simmering anger that the decision was made behind closed doors.

“Their culture is different than ours. Their world is just different than ours,” said Chris Kiefer-Cioffi, a selectwoman in a neighboring town who worked for 27 years on the Rutland police force.

Some residents have asked whether the refugees would be inoculated, others have wondered whether a terrorist could infiltrate the group, and still more have questioned what the dollars-and-cents costs will be for caring for people arriving with little but their clothes.

Months-long discussions about whether to invite the Syrians were limited to the mayor, a small circle of city and business leaders, and a nonprofit resettlement agency. The president of the Board of Aldermen, who knew about the effort, did not tell his colleagues until a day or two before Louras announced the plans at an April 26 news conference.

“There was no benefit to anyone to spread the knowledge,” William Notte, the aldermen president, said in an interview.

Louras made no apologies for excluding the public from the planning. If the proposal had been floated earlier, the mayor said, the debate would have become “about them” — meaning the Syrians, their culture, and possible links to terrorism — instead of whether the city had the means to accommodate the refugees.

Once the logistical questions were quietly answered, Louras said, the timing was right for an announcement in this city of 16,500 people, which is 95 percent white and overwhelmingly of Eurpoean ancestry.

“I own it. I took the hits, and I’ll continue to take the hits,” Louras said recently at a downtown pig roast, where he helped dish out the pork to benefit a children’s museum.

Giving the refugees a home here will put Rutland on the right side of history, the mayor and Notte said.

“The benefits, economically and culturally, that we will recognize is exactly what the community needs at this time,” said Louras, the grandson of a Greek immigrant who fled the Ottoman Turks a century ago. “As much as I want to say it’s for compassionate reasons, I realize that there is not a vibrant, growing, successful community in the country right now that is not embracing new Americans.”…

…….this is sickening….sickening….there seems to be no other solution but civil
disobedience…WTP have spoken and shouted and even pleaded with our Elected
reps. and to no avail….DC continues to turn a deaf ear to our requests and demands..
what ELSE can WTP do?…..do you think the DTrump will “fix” the problems we are
having especially with the bulldozing of our Constitutional rights? His ego is such that
he will be playing “mine is bigger than yours” politics in DC and NOTHING will get
done….so DT says that he will make Mexico build and pay for a wall…..OK! Great!
So, let me understand…DT speaks and the jello congress bows down and oays homage? Don’t we already have a KING Obama…we gonna trade that king for
another king?…WHERE are our Elected, Promise making – promise breaking, over paid,
pampered, self important, weak kneed representatives? If DT has played us for a bunch
of fools….he might want to rethink his position……when WTP get angry the pendulum
always swings in too great an arch in response….NTLess…there is No One Else to

Where do these politicians get the idea that they do not answer to the American people. How dare this man, or any other politician, decide to make a decision like this without public knowledge. 95 million Americans are out of work and I am so sick of hearing how we need more immigrants. Why? To collect the promised lifetime benefits? or to take what jobs are left, because any business that hires a Muslim immigrant receives a $3,000 tax break for each immigrant employee and a $12,000 bonus if the Muslim is a college graduate.

This Pig Roast will cause problems because not only is Islam supremist in nature, the Umma are required, wherever possible, to forbid that which Allah forbids.

“Ye are the best of peoples, evolved for mankind, enjoining what is right, forbidding what is wrong, and believing in Allah” Quran 3:110

Unlike Democracy, Islam has no equivalent of tolerance, biding its time until it can demand compliance.

This article is a keeper. It shows the depths of corruption at local, state and federal levels. You have elected officials and government and non-governmental agencies conspiring to deceive the good people of Rutland.

The ballot box alone is not going to correct this level of corruption; these are outright communist tactics.

‘… The mayor’s strategy of keeping the plan quiet is supported by the Vermont Refugee Resettlement Program, which is a field office of the US Committee for Refugees and Immigrants. The program’s executive director, Amila Merdzanovic, called the hidden talks “the right thing to do — to move slowly, keep it to a small circle of people, and then expand.”

Merdzanovic, in e-mails obtained by the Rutland Herald, had stressed the importance of secrecy all along….”

Yes, although it doesn’t matter how much people know about Islamofascism if political leaders can continue to act autonomously, and with imperviousness. Only when there is a personal or electoral cost to the fascist scum ruining our societies will it stop, because they are determined to do it, clearly get deep personal satisfaction from doing it, and pay no price.

There could be 10 different Muslim terrorist groups publicly declare war and detonate 10 nukes across the US tomorrow, and the political and journalist elites would cry out “beware Islamophobia!”, have a good laugh, shed a public tear, and wouldn’t pause for a second in Islamizing the country. And so far we’re stuck with people of this caliber running the show across all Western countries (but not anywhere else in the world, interestingly).

Who is going to pay for a mosque? Not a problem. I’m certain the town will find a building …. perhaps even some church property will be donated. Once the Muslims become the majority and are able to change the local laws, either some form of jizya will be imposed on the remaining Christians or else the many abandoned churches will be converted into however many mosques are required.

Mayor Christopher Louras, 5 times the 2-year office, is basing his expectations on the results of immigrants who came to Lewiston, Maine, almost 15 years ago.

He is betting that the immigrants sent to Rutland will be well-vetted industrious like the pre-ISIS Muslim immigrants of 2001. He is also active in promoting the city; raising its visibility and status. He likely has aspirations for higher office and sees the migrants as a stepping stone to a federal position.

Counting on the federal government to select the best current migrants may be a poor bet. Acting more like a CEO than a people’s representative will have consequences if the bet goes sour. Time will tell. Lewiston, Maine got a state-championship-winning soccer team.

    May 13, 2016 at 10:40 am

The influx would be a jolt of instant cultural diversity for Rutland

And this is apparently very important because Rustland is a

city of 16,500 people, which is 95 percent white and overwhelmingly of Eurpoean ancestry.

    Anyway:

where there are no mosques and no other Syrian immigrants

Probably because there are no muslims there. A mosque equals “cultural diversity” now? Man, Saudi Arabia most be the most “culturally diverse” place on earth then… Oh, wait, the standards for “cultural diversity” are a mosque *and* “Syrian” “refugees” (because these are being presented as refugees, not immigrants) – scratch Saudi Arabia then, because they’re not taking any of them for fear that terrorists might slip in.

Louras made no apologies for excluding the public from the planning. If the proposal had been floated earlier, the mayor said, the debate would have become “about them” — meaning the Syrians, their culture, and possible links to terrorism — instead of whether the city had the means to accommodate the refugees.

“Cultural” clashes, diseases carried by people who might not be inoculated, and how much they’ll cost the taxpayers are not topics worth discussing with the populace? Don’t the people have a saying in this? If you genuinely fear that the locals don’t want the “Syrians” there, why bring them behind their backs?

Months-long discussions about whether to invite the Syrians were limited to the mayor, a small circle of city and business leaders, and a nonprofit resettlement agency. The president of the Board of Aldermen, who knew about the effort, did not tell his colleagues until a day or two before Louras announced the plans at an April 26 news conference.

“There was no benefit to anyone to spread the knowledge,” William Notte, the aldermen president, said in an interview.

This is what a conspiracy looks like.

    “The benefits,

To whom? The business leaders who were in the secret meeting?

economically and culturally, that we will recognize is exactly what the community needs at this time,” said Louras, the grandson of a Greek immigrant who fled the Ottoman Turks a century ago. “As much as I want to say it’s for compassionate reasons, I realize that there is not a vibrant, growing, successful community in the country right now that is not embracing new Americans.”

Economical and cultural benefits? What the hell? First of all, you’re NOT bringing in cultured millionaires, you’re bringing penniless “refugees”. Second, “economical benefits”? Seriously? What the f***, man? You want to exploit the plight of people escaping war, and you’re willing to uproot them from a area quite close to their own geographically, linguistically, culturally and religiously and to have them dropped in the middle of nowhere halfway across the world? And you’re calling them “new Americans”? What if the war ends the day after they get there and they decide they want to go back to their country? Are you going to put them on camps and say they’re not allowed to go back? “Re-educate” them?

You want to embrace new Americans go home, f*** your wife and have another kid. Or, depending on your age, tell your kids to have more kids. And if you don’t have kids… well, you’re part of the problem, aren’t you? You want to have “new Americans” without going through the trouble of breeding and raising them. That’s not how things work. People don’t instantly become Americans just because they’re living in America. Especially when you go out of your way to ensure they don’t have to adopt American culture and way of life.

    Also, this:

I realize that there is not a vibrant, growing, successful community in the country right now that is not embracing new Americans.

This is not an “A therefore B” correlation. Those “vibrant, growing, successful” communities are NOT vibrant, growing and successful BECAUSE they’re embracing “new Americans”. It’s the other way around – communities who are vibrant, growing and successful are, against their better judgement, taking in “new Americans” because they’re vibrant, growing and successful.

That’s like saying that if Verne Troyer, Tony Cox or Peter Dinklage were drafted to the NBA they’d become 7ft tall because, as we know, the NBA if full of tall people. Not going to happen.

These officials never actually name the improvements that will be forthcoming when these people appear;that’s because there isn’t any. Why would there be? They are coming from a dysfunctional society on every level compared to the West. And exactly what skills are they going to bring to enrich Vermont society that the indigenous Americans cannot supply? Well none actually. This whole business stinks. The governing class conspire against and lie to the people continually. Here in Britain we have finally learnt that the government has been routinely lying to and tricking the people about the number of migrants from the E.U ,who are not necessarily European as such. The people were told about 300,000 people came in last year,a huge amount;it now transpires the true figure, kept secret for as long as possible,is 800,000. A disastrous amount. No wonder schools, hospitals, housing, medical services, social services are collapsing. It’s is truly disgusting.

Well if my Mayor underhandedly negotiated this project without consultation with the people he represents he’d be dismissed as not fit for purpose. This left wing luvvie, has I believe ,been visited and compromised by members of the government who appear determined to get as many muslims into the States ,no matter who or what they are. How dare they and the Mayor do this behind your backs, isn’t he appointed by you?Obama cannot accept that islam is intolerant ,racist and xenophobic .That means you could have IS, paedophiles ,murderers etc as there are no longer any proper vetting procedures. What we’ve seen in Europe is a huge wave of muslims claiming refugee status but are not from Syria, they are economic migrants mixed up with manipulative young male muslims highly motivated to spread islam. I have no doubt many have returned from war torn areas and were active jihadist fighters. As hardened fighters hell bent on supporting IS and the caliphate they cannot be trusted. The demands for sharia law, the patrolling of streets claiming them for islam ,the demands for halal meat, demands for the koran to be taught in schools ,and the gradual pressures to endorse islam will be persistent when their numbers grow-like a cancer. Look to Europe where the same luvvie attitude has saddled us with millions of these people who are poorly educated ,ignorant ,diseased ,unemployable and some have mental and physical problems after generations of marrying family members. In Germany many women and children have been raped by muslims claiming the right to do this as we westerners are infidels and inferior. In Europe we’ve had the murders ,violent assaults, people being sexually assaulted in discos ,and businesses threatening to close down due to intimidation and violence. Sexual assaults in swimming pools in Sweden and elsewhere have been meant they have closed as this has become a serious problem. Also hygiene has been an issue with muslims wearing their pants under swimming trunks and the soiled underwear reacting with the chlorine resulting in the closure of the pools. The list of problems we Europeans have experienced has been considerable with governments covering up for the muslim violence and even blaming their own people for the rapes and sexual abuse. What’s also been happening is governments have spread lies about what a wonderful experience it’s been living in a multicultural society and how much the migrants have contributed to the wealth and anyone disagreeing is a islamophobic racist bigot! Meanwhile our politicians have stuck to the party line and exerted pressure on the police , local government and the judiciary to tow the political line.Well the lids off and we see the serious ramifications on our schools ,health services, local authorities and government policies and our culture. Islam does not enrich any culture, these people are not beneficial to the local economy because most aren’t able to work or contribute , if at all ,until they can speak english and are educated to a sufficient level. Then you have to contend with islam, when third generation muslims go off on jihad ignoring their families ,friends and the only culture they know . Islam does not integrate. Good luck Rutland , you’ll need it and may your God go with you!

The way it’s working out is now apparent. This mayor and those conspiring with him are helping to build the image and force everyone else to worship it.

From the piece: ““I own it. I took the hits, and I’ll continue to take the hits,” Louras said.”
NO, mayor. You got the money,,,
But the young women and little kids will be taking the hits. They’ll be hit upon by all those *refugees* who have the *culture* that says they can rape any and all whom they choose. (Much as the demons did with women before the flood of Noah’s day.)

And all of the places that raise or sell pork…farms, grocery stores, butchers and restaurants. Hits there, too. And places that sell/serve alcohol.
And all of the businesses that hire some of the *refugees* and then have to make special accommodations…foot baths, prayer rooms and extra time for *preying.* And allowing all of the women…if there are any…to wear scarves…no matter the appearance or danger.
And the anger when the people in the community…that didn’t come from somewhere else…refuse to bow to islam and its adherents…and get slaughtered by the angry moslims.

The government is supposed to be by for and of the *people.* But the way it’s working out now, the *people* are being kept in the dark about everything that is going to seriously affect their lives and health and purse from this point forward.

And what community needs a *culture shock*? The ones that are mostly white and perhaps Christian or Jew,, of course.

The U.N. is a big part of the *image building* going on to benefit the wild beast. The U.N. is in charge of who gets sent where. And the *strong cities network* lynch spoke of is also a large part of what is going on here. The *strong cities* are getting a *cultural shock* that will be the first step in the trouble that is coming.

And the trouble is coming just like the prophecy foretold. First the wild beast and its image are worshipped…and then the end comes.

    Thankfully, the end comes.

Three stories would be borderline for a proper send off. Probably best to get some strong men to throw the offender up as far as they can thus gaining perhaps another half storey. That would most likely do the trick (there are probably peer reviewed studies on the aero dynamics of all this in the archives at Riyadh university). If not there’s always the “then throw stones at them” option to bring the proceedings to a successful conclusion. But this too requires a bit of thought. If the stones are too big it might all be over too quickly and if there are no mini size ones the children won’t be able to join in.

There you are Wellington. Do you remember our conversation about what Daniel Pipes believes about the jihad verses? I asked him in the comments column of his latest article:

      “Submitted by ECAW

Dr Pipes – A friend claims that you believe the jihad verses in the Koran are only applicable to the time when they were “revealed” as opposed to being intended to be valid for all time until the entire world is under Islam. I maintain that you hold no position on the matter, only being interested in what Muslims believe about it, in the hope that they may move more to the former. Which of us is right, please.

      Daniel Pipes replies:

You are emphatically correct. I don’t engage in my own Koranic analysis but follow what Muslims believe it says.”

      http://www.danielpipes.org/16661/sykes-picot-at-100

BTW I’ve been looking through all the jihad verses and their surrounding verses and can find nothing explit or even implicit about limitless jihad, only about his particular military campaigns in Arabia. It surprised me. There is of course plenty in the early history (although that seems rather shaky) and the much later hadiths etc to paint Mohammed as a global megalomaniac rather than just a regional one. It seems to me that when people say the verses were only contextual you have to go outside the Koran to counter their claim.

      Wanna argue the toss? 🙂

The meaning of Islam is not open to PRIVATE interpretation. The ‘consensus’ of Islamic scholars decides, rather than a coin toss.

The ‘consensus’ (ijma) was completed in 1111 AD and since then, no update has been considered canonical, but mere speculation.

Sharia law says that jihad is in effect as long as there is a Dar al Harb unconquered by Islam.

Not buying what? I presume you do not think the doors of ijtihad were closed in 1111 AD or others say in 1305 AD. That is the canonical view. Anything else is ‘bida’ and ‘all bida is from sin’.

There is no procedure within Islam to reopen the doors of ijtihad. Such a move would lead to accusations and more vicious counteraccusations and then a massive civil war would erupt among Muslims that would make ISIS appear small.

          http://www.stevenmasood.org/article/concept-ijtihad-history-islamic-jurisprudence

          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ijtihad

“In the 11th century, jurists required a mufti (jurisconsult) to be a mujtahid; by the middle of the 13th century, however, most scholars considered a muqallid (practitioner of taqlid) to be qualifed for the role. During that era some jurists began to ponder whether practitioners of ijtihad continued to exist and the phrase “closing of the gate of ijtihad” appeared after the 16th century.

The settling of Sunni law and increasing prominence of taqlid has at one point led most Western scholars to believe that the “gate of ijtihad” was in fact effectively closed around 900 C.E. In a 1964 monograph, which exercised considerable influence on later scholars, Joseph Schacht wrote that “a consensus gradually established itself to the effect that from that time onwards no one could be deemed to have the necessary qualifications for independent reasoning in religious law, and that all future activity would have to be confined to the explanation, application, and, at the most, interpretation of the doctrine as it had been laid down once and for all.” While more recent research has disproved the notion that the practice of ijtihad was abandoned in the 10th century — or even later — the extent of legal change during this period and its mechanisms remain a subject of scholarly debate.”

        May 13, 2016 at 3:26 pm

Well, let’s see here, ECAW. Pipes DOES maintain that much of Sharia is only applicable to the early years of Islam and yet he holds out hope that Muslims will eventually treat with the violent verses in the Koran in some symbolic way or contextually or something along these lines——-and it’s up to Muslims to do this. Uh-huh. Don’t hold your breath.

And the chief source for Sharia, above all other sources, is the Koran, eclipsing even the hadiths and sira, and so a derivative of the Koran, i.e., Sharia, is to be dismissed in large portions because of anachronism and the Koran, which to my knowledge, for 1400 years has never been treated “contextually” by virtually all Muslims is now to become treated contextually. Quite a tall order I would say. Lots of luck and all that. Besides, seems tons of Muslims are not getting this “message,” now are they? The Pew Research poll taken in Egypt back in 2010, which showed that over 80% of those polled thought a Muslim apostate should be killed and an adulteress should be stoned to death, certainly does not inspire hope for Sharia being largely dismissed and the Koran treated as merely descriptive often times rather than always prescriptive. Many similar polls of Muslims show the same rough percentages.

So, all the Land of Islam v. Land of War stuff can be dismissed. Really? And what of verses in the Koran itself, for instance Sura 8:39, which calls upon Muslims to fight unbelievers “until there is no more fitnah and all religion is for Allah.” Sure strikes me as an eternal call for jihad. Moreover, just look at all the hate in the Koran, never mind the violent rot. As Robert Spencer has pointed out, it is difficult to find a single page of the Koran which does not ooze antipathy towards non-Muslims. For instance, Sura 60:4 which encourages Muslims to despise unbelievers until they accept Allah only. Seems to me that holding out hope that Muslims will eventually adopt a true Golden Rule for all is also naïve in the extreme.

Oh, and meanwhile, there have been over 28,000 documented Islamic terrorist attacks worldwide just since 9/11 and this doesn’t take into account all the tens of thousands of such intended attacks that were thwarted by security agencies across the world during this same time period. I would contend that what Pipes hopes for is a fantasy version of Islam that has never existed except among a few deluded Muslims here and there and, more important, never will exist except for a very small percentage of Muslims, who would be far better off just giving up on Islam completely.. I mean I have to ask, why try to save this putrid, truly putrid, religion at all? There’s NOTHING good in it which can’t be found elsewhere and yet there is much bad in it which is difficult to find anywhere else. So what’s the damn point?

          Re Pipes:

          1. I have seen nothing by Pipes maintaining that much of Sharia is only applicable to the early years of Islam. If you can provide a link I would be interested to see what he says.

          2. Please don’t think I agree with Pipes about waiting for moderate Muslims to show up or the spurious distinction between Islam and Islamism. I don’t. I think it as unrealistic as you within the next thousand years or so and we only have another 20 years to save ourselves IMHO.

Re my particular interest in what meaning we can take from the jihad verses:

“Sura 8:39, which calls upon Muslims to fight unbelievers “until there is no more fitnah and all religion is for Allah.” Sure strikes me as an eternal call for jihad”

Look at some of the surrounding verses:

          34. What (plea) have they that Allah should not punish them, when they debar (His servants) from the Inviolable Place of Worship, though they are not its fitting guardians. Its fitting guardians are those only who keep their duty to Allah. But most of them know not.

          39. And fight them until persecution is no more, and religion is all for Allah. But if they cease, then lo! Allah is Seer of what they do.

          41. And know that whatever ye take as spoils of war, lo! a fifth thereof is for Allah, and for the messenger and for the kinsman (who hath need) and orphans and the needy and the wayfarer, if ye believe in Allah and that which We revealed unto Our slave on the Day of Discrimination, the day when the two armies met. And Allah is Able to do all things.

          42. When ye were on the near bank (of the valley) and they were on the yonder bank, and the caravan was below you (on the coast plain). And had ye trysted to meet one another ye surely would have failed to keep the tryst, but (it happened, as it did, without the forethought of either of you) that Allah might conclude a thing that must be done; that he who perished (on that day) might perish by a clear proof (of His Sovereignty) and he who survived might survive by a clear proof (of His Sovereignty). Lo! Allah in truth is Hearer, Knower.

Verse 34 talks of the Meccans who kept the Muslims from the Kaaba.
In verse 41 Mohammed is talking about his cut.
In Verse 42 Mo/Allah is reminiscing about some previous caravan raid or battle (so it seems).

Who are the unbelievers who must be fought until religion is all for Allah, all unbelievers forever or just the Meccans? I see nothing in it about forever and everywhere, just a very specific campaign over control of the Kaaba and booty.

Thanks for your reply, ECAW. As for Pipes maintaining that much of Sharia is only applicable to the early years of Islam, I was told this directly by a friend of Pipes. Also, the fact that Pipes has clearly been outspoken against so much of what Sharia demands (many of his articles at his own website deal with this) leads me to conclude that what a friend of his told me is the case. I mean I don’t think Pipes wants the violent crap in Sharia ALSO treated contextually as he thinks the Koran can be (which I don’t). But you’ve been in contact with him. Why not ask him directly about this so we can clear up at least this matter?

As for the Koran and verses like 8:39 not being prescriptive but only descriptive, I just don’t buy it. Do you know of a single major school of Islamic theology, Sunni or Shiite, for instance the four main Sunni schools, the Hanafi, the Hanbali, the Maliki and the Shafi, which interpret the violent verses in the Koran as merely descriptive and not prescriptive? I would maintain that while Pipes is a sincere and good man he functions in a world of high theory, very high theory, and thus what he thinks attainable is almost certainly never going to happen, in short he is unrealistic.

Meanwhile, the killing by Muslims in the name of their religion goes on and on and on. And don’t forget that statement I previously made about there being nothing good in Islam which can’t be found elsewhere but yet there is much rot in Islam that is hard to find anywhere else. Why try and save this religion at all? I don’t see the value in it. Might as well try and have an innocuous Nazism.

Good to have this back and forth with you. I write in a spirit of friendship as I’m sure you do. Take care.

Wellington, yes I value being able to discuss this, and even disagree robustly, without it getting personal as so often happens here.

          1. Your first paragraph is not specific enough for me to comment on. In any case I am not particularly interested in what Pipes has to say about sharia (only on the original issue which I asked him about) but even so the onus is on you to provide references not on me to ask him about it. That is rather like the religious person’s claim that God exists then expecting me to disprove it.

          2. I do not say that 8:39 and similar verses are descriptive rather than prescriptive. I say that they are definitely prescriptive regarding the context they were “revealed” in. But I see nothing in them about a wider limitless prescriptiveness. If you do please point it out. The fact that the various schools of sharia do is beside the point, my point anyway. What do YOU see in the text to justify the limitless interpretation?

There is nothing in the rest of your 2nd paragraph and your 3rd paragraph which I disagree with

I would contend, ECAW, that you, like Pipes, are functioning in high theory land. Is it POSSIBLE that the violent verses in the Koran may only be meant contextually(which I pretty much treat as a synonym for “descriptively”)? In high theory land thinking, I guess so (and even here I remain dubious).

But the fact that Muslims through the centuries, all major Islamic schools of theology to the present, and of course Muslim terrorists in huge numbers don’t see them as you think it’s possible to see them, puts you, not even a Muslim, in an almost irrelevant category. I say “irrelevant” not critically but analytically. Meanwhile, the invocation of the violent verses are used on virtually a daily basis by devout Muslims to justify what can only be called sheer barbarism.

I would close here by pointing out that you yourself engage in a stretch of thinking when you are prepared to treat the Koran in isolation, not connected to hadiths, sira, Islamic schools of theology or what Muslims through the centuries have thought of the Koran. As I already said, it’s high theory, actually virtually to the point of irrelevancy, which again I don’t mean critically but analytically. And the violent verses aside, what about all the ones that manifest antipathy towards the non-Muslim, to be found on almost every page of the Koran? These alone justify dismissing the Koran as a heinous work, essentially a hate manual.

          May 14, 2016 at 3:29 pm

I disagree Wellington. That surprised you didn’t it?

I think I am at the other, literal, end of the spectrum, trying to get back to the original raw data. High theory land to me would be trying to take into account the vast exegetical apparatus, which Fess talks of, looking back at Mohammed through a series of very dubious lenses.

Imagine that Islam never spread out of Arabia, that perhaps Abu Bakr lost the Ridda Wars and the whole thing folded there and then. Then imagine coming across this strange book in the loft of a church or synagogue in the one camel town of Mecca 1400 years later. What would you make of it? I think I would think it a collection of tales and motivational sermons from some tin pot prophet/warlord to his troops in their bid to take over Mecca and the surrounding area. Looked at in that way do you see anything in it that suggests any ambitions beyond that? I don’t. 8:39 and its surrounding verses is a good example.

In fact though I do think Mo was implacably supremacist and without limit for several reasons, all of them outside the Koran.

Firstly there are the threatening letters to surrounding kings and emperors (which I believe to be undisputed) which you know about but I’ll give the link for in case anyone else is interested:

          http://wikiislam.net/wiki/Invitations_to_Islam_Prior_to_Violence

Secondly there is the claim that Mo sent his army out of Arabia to attack Byzantine Syria from his deathbed thus declaring his international ambitions.

Thirdly there is the fact that his companions and immediate successors carried on expanding militarily, from Spain to India in 100 years. You would imagine that they were in the best position to know Mohammed’s intentions.

The hadiths and the sira didn’t appear until 200 years after Mo’s death (and the story about the deathbed only comes via them). By that time everyone took limitless supremacism for granted. That is also a factor but personally I wouldn’t bet the farm on something handed down by word of mouth for 200 years. As I said elsewhere, and only as a speculation, it is not impossible that Arab imperialists, casting around for their own founding book, seized on the Koran just as some people think they seized on the minor or even non-existent figure of Mohammed as a founding father.

So, what difference would it make if I am right? None at all to Muslims who buy the whole hadiths/sharia package. I am not contesting that and think attempts to push a similar line have two chances, slim and fat.

But it is is possible that it could clarify the differences between me and the people I debate with. Those debates go along the lines of “Islam is supremacist, the Koran says ‘fight the unbelievers until religion is all for Allah’” “No it isn’t. All those jihad verses apply only to the contexts in which they were ‘revealed’”.

If I could say “I don’t dispute your view of the Koran but I still contend that Islam is inherently and implacably supremacist (and without limit) perhaps our debates would at least stand a chance of moving towards a resolution.

I totally agree that the Koran is a hate manual and full of hatred towards non-Muslims but that provides no evidence for the claim that it calls for limitless jihad.

Thank you for your reply, ECAW. Well, we will have to agree to disagree on this. I am overwhelmingly inclined to think that the Koran does call for unlimited jihad until all the world is under Islamic rule. On “my side ” here are many loathsome characters and elements, from the various major schools of Islamic theology, Islamic terrorists organizations galore, hundreds and hundreds of millions of Muzzies and so on. But lots of luck arguing your point about the Koran’s violent verses. You do know that you are in a very, very small minority on this issue, don’t you? And shouldn’t this in and of itself tell you something?

Good to have this “chat.” Now, back to the fight.

ECAW, all the schools of Islamic jurisprudence and virtually all Muslim clerics believe that Jihad is open-ended.

And the Qur’an and Hadith laud violent Jihad as the greatest expression of Islam–with respect, there does not appear to be anything time-limited about it.

“Allah has preferred in grades those who strive hard and fight with their wealth and lives above those who sit (at home). Unto each, Allah has promised good (Paradise), but Allah has preferred those who strive hard and fight above those who sit (at home) by a huge reward.”
        –Qur’an 4:95

Narrated Abu Huraira RadhiAllahu anhu, A man came to Allah’s Apostle Salallahu-alaihiwasallam and said “Instruct me as to such a deed as equals Jihad (in reward).” He Salallahu-alaihiwasallam replied, “I do not find such a deed.” Then he added, “Can you, while the Muslim fighter is in the battlefield, enter your Masjid to perform prayers without cease and fast and never break your fast?” The man said, “But who can do that?” Abu Huraira RadhiAllahu anhu added, “The Mujahid (i.e. Muslim fighter) is rewarded even for the footsteps of his horse while it wanders about (for grazing) tied on a long rope”.
        (Sahih Bukhari, p391, v.1)

Narrated Abu Said Khudri RadhiAllahu anhu, somebody asked, “O Allah’s Messenger Salallahu-alaihiwasallam! Who is the best among the people?” Allah’s Messenger Salallahu-alaihiwasallam replied, “A believer who performs Jihad with his life and wealth.” They asked, “Who is next?” He replied, “A believer who stays in one of the mountain paths worshipping Allah and leaving the people safe from his mischief.”
        Sahih Bukhari, (p391, vol.1)

I could go on, of course–there are many more.

Interesting that my limited claim that there is nothing in the Koran “explicit or even implicit about limitless jihad” has been met with a variety of rebuttals from outside the Koran…the hadiths, scholars ancient and modern, gates of Ijtihad, the four schools of sharia etc.

The two rebuttals relying on verses in the Koran do not counter my claim. Firstly graven, I am not saying that there is anything time limited in 4:65 but that there is nothing time-unlimited in it. Looking at the surrounding verses it is clearly referring to the Muslims military campaigns going on at the time…I’m sure we agree there. If it is also referring to an unlimited struggle beyond that context it is for the person claiming that to explain why.

8:39 is even more clearly embedded in Mo’s military struggle with the Meccans. If someone can identify the added ingredient of limitless, as opposed to limited regional supremacism, can they please point it out. I am not interested in what scholars said two, five or fourteen hundred years later but what anyone here can see in the text.

ECAW, I really don’t understand your point, or *why* you’re trying to make it.

As others have pointed out, even if you, or Daniel Pipes, *were* able to make a case that jihad in the koran is limited to specific past times, so what ? It’s not what us infidels think, but what *mohammedans* think. And they certainly aren’t going to pay any attention to what filthy kufrs say about their koran.

Over 28,000 jihad attacks since 9/11. Thousands more foiled by the vigilance of law enforcement, or sheer luck. What the jihadists themselves say. QED.

First of all let me separate myself from Pipes’ views. I do not agree with his optimism about “moderate” Muslims or his acceptance of the distinction between Islam and Islamism. My concern with him was only to challenge the claim that he thinks the jihad verses are only relevant to the times they were written in. He does not take any view on the matter, as he said in his reply to my question. That is the end of my concern with him.

For myself, I am not content to be told what to make of the Koran by generations of monstrous Islamic scholars or by modern jihadis, and am concerned for my own interest to try to sort out the peas from the carrots. The text is there for all of us to examine and come to our own conclusions. I have come to my own very limited conclusion, that there is no evidence in the Koran for a “supremacism unlimited by time and space”, only for a religiously inspired warlord’s concerns over his particular region.

Nobody here has identified anything in the Koran that clearly points to such “forever and everywhere” ambitions, only things outside the Koran as you have.

I know full well that what we infidels think doesn’t make a spit of difference to Muslims who overwhelmingly accept the version of the Koran as seen through the lenses of the hadiths, sharia etc and we must confront that reality.

But I can understand why Koran-only Muslims can go for a quietist version of Islam, which I think they do but I haven’t been able to find out much about them. I can also understand the people I debate with who say “The jihad verses are only contextual therefore Islam is not universally supremacist therefore Islam is not a threat to us”. Their first point is plausible but their conclusions are wrong because of evidence outside the Koran. I intend to take this line with them in future and see whether our discussions can progress beyond the usual “Yes it is” “No it isn’t” shouting matches.

Cuba rejects plans for first mosque.

The African nation of Angola and several other nations have officially banned Islam.

Record number of Muslims (over 2,000) deported from Norway as a way of fighting crime. Since these Muslim criminals have been deported, crime has dropped by a staggering 72%.

Austrian police arrested 13 men targeting suspected jihad recruiters.

A Chinese court sends 22 Muslim Imams to jail for 16 to 20 years for spreading Islam hatred. And have executed eighteen Jihadists; China campaigns against separatism (disallowing Islamist to have their own separate state). Muslim prayers are banned in government buildings and schools in Xinjiang (Western China). Hundreds of Muslim families prepared to leave China for their own safety and return back to their own Middle Eastern countries.

Muslim refugees beginning to realize that they are not welcome in Christian countries because of their violent ways and the continuing wars in Syria and Iraq whipped up by the hideous ISIS who are murdering young children and using mothers and daughters as sex slaves.

British Home Secretary prepares to introduce ‘Anti-social Behavior Order’ for extremists and strip dual nationals of their Citizenship. Deportation laws also being prepared.

The Czech Republic blatantly refuses Islam in their country, regarding it as evil.

Alabama – A new controversial amendment that will ban the recognition of “foreign laws which would include Sharia law”.

The Polish Defense League issues a warning to Muslims. 16 states have all introduced legislation to ban Sharia law.

Many Muslims in Northern Ireland have announced plans to leave the country to avoid anti-Islamic violence by Irish locals. The announcement comes after an attack on groups of Muslims in the city of Belfast; groups of Irish locals went berserk and bashed teenage Muslim gangs who were referring to young Irish girls as sluts and should be all gang raped, according to Islam and ”Sharia Law”. Even hospital staff were reluctant to treat the battered Muslim patients, the majority were given the Band-Aid treatment and sent home with staff muttering ”good riddance”.

North Carolina bans Islamic “Sharia Law” in the State, regarding it now as a criminal offence.

Dutch MP’s call for removal of all mosques in the Netherlands. One member of the Dutch Parliament said: “We want to clean Netherlands of B Islam”. Dutch MP Machiel De Graaf spoke on behalf of the Party for Freedom when he said, “All mosques in the Netherlands should be shut down. Without Islam, the Netherlands would be a wonderful safe country to live in, as it was before the arrival of Muslim refugees”.

I’m not sure why this is such a persistent myth.

While it is true that Japan allows very little immigration in general, they do *not* have a ban on Muslims. Nor is it true that the worship of Islam has been banned; there are a number of Mosques in Japan.

From what I’ve seen in pertinent articles, Japan has around 1300 Muslims and they have around a half dozen mosques or so with no additional ones permitted to be built. The Muslims are registered and watched closely and if they do anything that is deemed unsociable, they are immediately deported. There is no PC police or media that lavishes sob stories on those deported. There is no version of the ACLU to fight the deportation or any bleeding heart advocates, so booting them from the country occurs very fast.

Their people have a strong nationalistic identity and they react fiercely to anything that would conflict with that, like Islam. The sons of Mohammed will not find it easy to infilitrate Japan and it’s a shame we can’t learn from them in this regard.

Indeed. Fessitude, who has on several occasions reflexively defended the left in general – the purveyors of identity and divisive politics that are poisoning the waters for the rest of us – is using a left-based defence mechanism I’m calling “law of big numbers”. The posts he mentions are stripped of their contents and context and reduced to numbers. The number he ascribes me is bigger than the number he claims for himself, therefore I’m the one in the wrong – never mind that, as in the example you’ve provided, he goes on a rant about me that’s completely unrelated to anything in that topic I said or even the matter at hand. And there’s the use of loaded language – when he goes out of his way to decry me and lie about me or what I said, he’s “mentioning me” while when I call him out on what he says (including pointing out he’s lying about me) I’m “zooming in out of nowhere to pester him”. It’s “Fessitude’s Drama Theatre” and today’s play is “The Passion of the Fessitude at the Hand of the Big Meanie Angemon”, starring “Fessitude”, with screenplay by “Fessitude”.

It’s telling that he’s engaging in the same kind of argumentation used by groups like CAIR or BLM. Muslims are a minority, therefore anything they do must be their fight against oppression. Blacks are a minority so when they riot and loot it must be their way to fight against oppression. Because they’re a minority, you see?
It’s clearly meant to gather sympathy points at the expense of rational discourse, and it’s coming from someone who has a history of mocking and ridiculing people who attack the Left in general for its apologism of muslims.

This is an interesting case, because they said the States can’t be forced to intervene in Federal issues. Well, when Trump gets in and cuts off the feeding trough to these Sancturary Cities, they’ll sing a different tune.

The specific reason for shooting down the law was pretty valid though, because it applied to people got Amnesty from Ronald Regan. Sloppy, redo, rewrite.

With different executives running the show on Washington all it will take is one local whistle blower, and it’s going to get shut down quick.

It Happened here in my county in Georgia, One tiny mosque turned into a mega mosque now the whole area is hijab and guys that look like they just came back from the front lines of Afghanistan, there’s 2 huge Islamic schools too.

I visit the US on a regular basis. Mostly Florida. I developed the habit of “counting” the number of head
scarves i see in Florida. This year it was 3 times as many as last year.

America is now on a muslim infiltrated level the Netherlands was when i was a child. The Netherlands has not become a better place after these member of a death cult entered. The Netherlands is now much worse after that islamization of society. The Dutch people live in fear of a major muslim attack, which will come for sure.

America still has a chance to avoid islamization like the Netherlands but the American people have to act now!

Our cities are already overtaken, numbers are increasing. This will not end well. Americans!? Don’t do this to yourselves. Dont go on this pad of self islamization! It will bring you nothing but hardship, fear and islam..

Wise words, but read the comment section of the Boston source article, because folks there are all proud of setting up their kids to raped, molested and killed by the Muslim hoard. They are going on and on about how great the cultural influence will be, and how boring it is, and that having Muslims around will liven the place up.

Difficult not to laugh out loud, it’s so profoundly dumb.

Vermont is very liberal on everything except guns and the right of the State to secede. Well, at least they are bucking up and putting their money where their mouth is.

We are already there Dutch Patriot. The US has had more deadly Islamic war attacks than Europe combined, We are seeing hijabs in areas that were once redneck here in rural Georgia. We have 2 Muslim of Americas training camps here, both in rural areas with heavy Islamic populations. In my small county here we have seen a tiny mosque become a mega mosque, they actually were refused planning permission to upgrade it but the feds stepped in a demanded our county to allow the building of the mega mosque.
Hillary Clinton has already said she will emulate Merkel, and she said this at the height of the Syrian refugee crisis. Which isn’t even begun to be over.
I’m hoping for a Trump victory or its all over here too. But if we fall, so does Europe.

The 100 refugees are probably 100 men . After a while , they will ask for family reunion. That will mean their wife , brother or mother or father will came in.

Then , they will make children . A muslim wife is look over if she doesn’t have at least 5 children. In ten years from now that will make 1000 refugees in a 16,000 town.

Then they will have their little suburb, their stores. They will ask for their mosque but not only . They will need their school, They wiil be offended by christians churches bells , by any cross around. They willneed their own cemetary . Their city counsellor. Veiled woman will be seen everywhere in the town. Bearded men in djellabas. Muslims never mix , never blend with other cultures. Tensions will come up . Group rapt will show . Tags in cemetary , statues, churches etc….One day , this town will be their and nobody will remember the time before. Islam is like a cancer. Muslims don’t mary non-muslims. Muslims will work for a while until the day they become official americans . Then they work less. Family allowances, social welfare and illegal trafics will be their income. The town will not grow in wealthness. It will decrease. Poverty rimes with islam.

Your town will be sorry as these refugees have not a care about you, our nation etc, prepare your homes, your children should not be left alone and carry some protection with you be it a knife, pepper spray, small club, or a gun if you know how to use it. Keep doggy pick up bags handy as they will use your yard as a bathroom better …..yet read about Germany and their issues with migrants from the middle east when they went into a small town with just 100 residents, it was not a good situation.

If the proposal had been floated earlier, the mayor said, the debate would have become ‘about them’ — meaning the Syrians, their culture, and possible links to terrorism — instead of whether the city had the means to accommodate the refugees.”
    …………………………

So–it doesn’t matter if these Muslims are Jihad terrorists, but just whether Rutland is able to accommodate them?

I doubt Louras has the slightest idea of what that “accommodation” of this influx of violent Mohammedans is apt to entail–although he might want to look at Europe, with its mushrooming of rape, robbery, and murder.

Rutland is a beautiful town famous for its annual Hallowe’en parade. Let’s check in in a few months and see how this secret planting of violent Muslims is going there…

  43. Graham McGBH says

George Bush imported and turned a blind eye to millions of Mexican illegals. These illegals moved into small rural towns across the south and built communities. Many went back home during the recession. But they blended in, their kids became Americans, they didn’t demand their own laws or form of governance. American communities welcomed them.

Muslims on the other hand have no concept of the US Constitution or freedom on the level we have. Muslims want Sharia law, poll after poll has shown this.
They have no interest in integrating or becoming true Americans.

They will always first call themselves Muslim.

And when in the hell did the phrase “muslim American” come into existence?? Are there Christian Amercians? Buddhist Americans?

That phrase always annoys me. My ancestors have been here since the 1700s and fought in the Revolutionary War. I am not from somewhere else. Another annoying phrase is “Native American.” It actually means a person born in the United States, of which I am one. It does not mean an American Indian as is commonly used. That is just more PC.

Indeed. Those “Syrian” “refugees” are going to need a place to live, clothes to wear, food to eat (halal food, of course), water, gas and electricity (looking at the map, Vermont doesn’t strike me as a particularly warm place – I bet those heating bills will go through the roof), and someone to teach them the English language, if not also a marketable set of skills, plus money for assorted expenses. Who’s paying for that? My guess is the government of the USA. Meaning US citizens will pay for that, whether they’re for taking in refugees or not.

I’m sure the local businessmen and council members will profit from it, so what does the feelings and wanting of the local citizens matter? Their elected leaders just know better.

Some states have open meeting laws requiring elected public officials to publish agendas, meeting times, and dates, etc. This is especially the case for city government and school boards. These laws are in place so the press can report, so the public knows what business is being conducted on their behalf, and to prevent backroom decisions being made by a few people.

If that is the case in this mayor’s state, he may have violated that law, not to mention violating public trust and propriety. Something does not seem right legally here. But if public defender’s and individuals are successfully pressured not to prosecute by more powerful influences, those laws go unenforced, and law suits do not get filed.

But I would bet that if that city government denied transgender access to their desired restrooms, lawsuits would be quick and publicity broad.

  56. UNCLE VLADDI says

    May 14, 2016 at 5:00 pm

Did this TRAITOR ever even bother to ask WHY all the muslim Arab countries adjacent to Syria itself – like Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, the UAE, or even Iran – had the means to accommodate those rapefugees, yet CHOSE not to take in ANY of them?

Did he ask his constituent citizens if any of them WANTED to take money for such a risky endeavor?

Or did he only say to himself, as most politicians seem able to these days, something along these lines:

“I don’t care what you think, ever since you decided to defer your rights and responsibilities to think for your selves by hiring (‘electing’) me to do all of your thinking for you, peons!”

Did he take an oath of office to defend the safety of his constituent citizens, or did he take an oath to take their tax monies to support their sworn enemies instead?

And – what’s the penalty for TREASON, again?
