“There’s allegations that the individual has made threats in the past to having ties to terrorist organizations.” Would it have been “Islamophobic” to have monitored him more closely?
“FBI: Suspect Bragged About Ties To ‘Terrorist Organizations,’” by Steve Guest, Daily Caller, June 12, 2016:
FBI Special Agent Ron Hopper, who’s in charge of Orlando’s FBI office, says that the individual who attacked an Orlando nightclub Sunday morning bragged about “having ties to terrorist organizations.”
The shooter is reportedly Omar Mateen, a U.S. citizen from Port Saint Lucie, Fla., according to CBS News.
Hopper said, “The history that we know of this individual so far is that he may have made threats that he was tied to” islamic [sic] terror.
In an interview on Fox News’s “Fox & Friends Sunday,” Hopper said, “There’s allegations that the individual has made threats in the past to having ties to terrorist organizations. However, those have not been confirmed or vetted so far. Obviously, we are in the initial stages of this investigation at this time.”…

Apparently Mateen was born in New York …
And I just found this information online regarding those t-shirts:
“In a series of social media photos, Mateen is seen wearing T-shirts emblazoned with the New York Police Department name and emblem.
However, the NYPD said Mateen had no association with the department and the shirts were unofficial merchandise that could be bought at any shop.”

From what I’ve seen in the news, he worked in a private security company and was thinking of joining the NYPD.
But, you know, the stance of sort of people trying to pin this on gun laws can be simplified as “only cops should be allowed to own guns”. Because, apparently, no cop will ever be “radicalized” or whatever. Liberal logic, I guess…

It has been repeated time and time again, as the Muslim numbers increase in a country the more of the Koran will be initiated, namely killing of Jews, Christians, Lesbians, Homosexuals, and Transgenders. Stop the influx of Muslims and only allow Christians, Yasidies, and or any other Religion. Mr. President, you have created a warrant for the wanton murder of citizens in this country that do not accept Allah!

Agreed. Diversity is truly a wonderful thing, but not at the moment it goes to the point of becoming suicidal. In other words, let’s keep bringing new blood into the US, from every religion and every race, but let’s keep out the specific culture that will destroy multiculturalism and establish a monoculture: Islam needs to be excluded, not given a grasp in the US.
Yes, there are “moderate” Muslims. But their ignorance of their own core texts and of the totalitarian goals and actions of their prime exemplar Muhammad as recorded in those core texts is negligent ignorance that is way too costly and destructive — particularly in terms of free speech — for the rest of us, who cannot publicly criticize Islam without being worried about getting our faces all over the internet as a target for any Muslim jihadist in the world, or for some Muslim co-worker or neighbor one day going ballistic in jihad against us while our backs our turned. Artists, teachers, cartoonists, politicians, and public figures of all kinds currently censor themselves for fear of jihad violence. Non-Muslims also seek to censor Islam criticism, because, for example, if I am a teacher in a school and tell any kind of balanced lesson about Islam, lots of parents become very afraid their children might become targets of jihadists, and will get me fired. They will be backed up by the brain-dead type of leftie who is totally naive or asleep about Islam and will call me a racist and bigot. The brain dead kind of leftie can only make this effective because of the jihad threat that backs him up.
Perhaps it is fair to say that adult, moderate Muslims, by supporting Islam, are negligently part of jihad mass murder, or at least guilty of negligence that is advantageous to jihad subversion and treason. Legal policies should reflect that situation. And current laws against subversion and treason should be applied wherever possible against mosques and people that promote jihad literature and sharia literature, and that teach and support the Qur’an’s and Hadith’s violently subversive and treasonous aspects. These things might be tolerated if Islam were a small sect. But Islam, through immigration and rapid reproduction (not so much through conversions) is a huge and spreading criminal organization many of whose members do not even recognize it as such, but should do so and are responsible for their ignorance or denial of what they are part of.
The only “moderate” Muslims who are not guilty of of a negligent participation in jihad are those who publicly acknowledge that sharia and jihad are totalitarian aspects of the core texts and of Muhammad as portrayed in the core texts, and publicly reject the relevant specific verses of the Qur’an, the relevant hadith, and the specific passages in the earliest Muslim biographies of Muhammad.
If they pretend those verses are not really there, if they are vicious liars like Reza Aslan when it comes to Muhammad’s actions as recorded in the core texts, or if they say that the relevant Qur’an verses and canonical hadiths do not say what mainstream authoritative Muslim scholars around the globe agree the Qur’an and hadith do in fact say, then we are dealing with people who are part of the problem.
How they can be dealt with legally is the question. Probably they will have to be tolerated, and the only remedy will be sane immigration policy.

To ECAW and Angemon – I’ve been torturing myself with listening to the coverage of this massacre on NPR since early this morning. I have never heard more verbal machinations in my life to avoid pinning this on anything Islam. Already a hotshot imam has weighed in, as we know, insisting that “we” put a stop to these shootings. Oh, I’m seething!

raven,
I too heard much of the coverage, and I think it was pretty fair. Don’t remember who (maybe someone from DHS?) but they did interview a man talking about Islamic terrorism. Jihad and terrorism was covered, as info. about the murderer came out.
The Imam I heard speak was actually the only gay Imam we know of. I had no idea. What a trip!
quotha raven says
To LR – It improved as the morning wore on. Of course, I read all the latest on JW at around 5am Pacific time, and OPR was still prattling on for a couple of hours after that, dancing around the obvious. But once the governor came out with the announcement that Mateen had called 911 to proclaim his allegiance to ISIS, OPR pretty much had to bit the bullet. You’re right; they became much more compliant when the facts hit them broadside!
Cheers!

A lot of people will not be awakened even by atrocities. The character of many kinds of faith is that when events seem to disconfirm the faith, the faith is often paradoxically strengthened.
That is one reason why faith should not be in a set of ideas, whether those ideas are religious or secular. Faith should be in a transcendent reality and in the process of thinking. Faith not in the sense of ideological belief — but in the sense of a kind of critical trust in the process of experience, and not just physical experience, but spiritual experience. Perhaps this can lead to an objective spiritual meeting with the Christ, so that one need not have faith in any doctrine or book, but can know higher reality directly.

No concentration camps or sterilization.
That is just crazy talk.
However, I would not necessarily be against targeted assassination of known jihadis as a matter of self-defense if we are first willing to admit we are at war with Islam.
eduardo odraude says
Why are we admitting to this country hundreds of thousands of Muslims each year? Because of PC stupidity, which says that the Other is ALWAYS worthy, and insists that anyone who suggests otherwise is a bigot. Muslims themselves advance this idea, which in time may destroy the United States.
I’m all for the Other, provided his culture is a tolerant one. I love multiculturalism, provided it does not tolerate totalitarian cultures that seek to use death and intimidation to silence criticism and establish the totalitarian state. Islam is a totalitarian project designed by Muhammad, even though some Muslims are not aware of it.
Any gays who support the Democrats should be aware that such support is suicidal for them, not so much because of this attack — but because as the Muslim population grows, it will become more and more difficult to be gay. And those of you who are not gay but disgusted by gays and secretly think maybe the attack is not an entirely bad thing, remember that the orthodox Muslims, the ones that try to follow Muhammad, are coming for you too, and seeking to destroy your free speech and your religion, whatever it is, if it is not Islam. Walter Sieruk says
Concerning this heinous and deadly jihad shooting at that gay nightclub the results murder of 50 people and the wounding of 53 more, there is among, many other things, a large contrast between the way this jihad-minded Muslim behaved and how a Christian would handle seeing a gay nightclub . A Christian, at this very worst. the Christian on viewing such could might take on haughty attitude and think to himself “What degenerates ! I don’t want to have anything to do with those immoral people” By contrast, a Muslim, at in the worst case. as last night, would murder and maim those people . The difference between the Christian and Muslim mindset is outstanding.
jayell says
So, after this, are people STILL going to argue against Donald Trump’s point that ‘America has got a problem with islam’? I believe that one news report states that Mateen went ballistic ‘when he saw men kissing’, an extreme reaction that might suggest to a psychologist an extreme personal reaction triggered by some kind of extreme internal repression (I wonder what exactly???) as much as any adherence to an extreme ideology. Even if this were the case, it would not excuse islam, since islam would have been largely responsible for inducing any such internal repression of this sort in the first place. Which would make Donald Trump’s argument even more relevant; because, not only does islam openly prescribe such atrocious behaviour in its holy writ, it also corrupts and distorts peoples’ personalities and perceptions so that they will be more likely to commit these atrocities. And with all these people on the loose who may have islam-induced problems, the world is hardly going to be a safer place. Donald Trump is absolutely right.

On one local talk show, a man did call up and reminded us that a while back at one of the mosques (in Oralando?), a guest Imam advocated killing gays. (I think that story was covered on JW).
Time for every single gay and their friends in Florida to go protesting at that mosque, and create TONS of coverage about that.
