Homesick for “Islamophobic” US, “Clock Boy” returns to Texas

Jun 30, 2016 1:43 pm By Robert Spencer

Ahmed Mohamed didn’t build anything. He just fit existing clockworks into a pencil box. His arrest was a hysterical overreaction, but not “Islamophobia”: school officials nationwide have acted in similar ways with non-Muslim students because of the zero tolerance policy on weaponry. There were ominous implications of this entire episode, with the inevitable effect that school officials will be wary of stopping Muslim students with suspicious objects.

He left the U.S. because of all the “Islamophobia” to which he was supposedly subjected, while in reality he was lionized everywhere. Now, apparently, after living in Qatar for awhile, American “Islamophobia” doesn’t seem all that bad.

Ahmed Mohamed Obama

“Ahmed Mohamed, Irving’s infamous ‘Clock Boy,’ returns to the U.S.,” by Allison Harris, FOX4News.com, June 27, 2016 (thanks to Steve):

IRVING, Texas – Ahmed Mohamed, the Muslim teenager who made headlines last year when he was suspended for bringing a homemade clock to school in Irving, returned to the United States Monday afternoon.

“Ahmed and his family have missed his grandmother, his aunts, uncles, cousins and friends here in Irving and across North Texas very much,” Aldean Mohamed said. “Ahmed and his nuclear family miss America and their whole family here in America very much.”

Ahmed said Facebook, MIT and NASA have contacted him through social media, asking him to visit while he’s in the U.S. during the summer.

The 14-year-old said he’s happy to be back home, and seeing his friends and family is first priority. He’s been going to school in Qatar and says there’s a 50/50 chance he’ll finish high school in the U.S., but says he definitely wants to go to college here. He says he’s interested in coding, engineering and technology.

“I’ve matured more. It’s normal to mature but I’ve matured way more since I got a little bit of publicity, and I’m happy for it,” Ahmed said.

“It’s beautiful to be here in USA,” said Ahmed’s father, Mohamed Elhassan Mohamed. “It is our home and it is our country and we love it. As you see, if there is something wrong, America will stand for it and that is what happened. Something was happening to my son. Everybody has a heart, has children, Something is wrong, so they stood for it.”

The 14-year-old was arrested in September after Irving MacArthur High School faculty mistakenly thought the homemade digital clock he’d taken school was a bomb.

The subsequent fallout made international headlines. Ahmed was invited to visit the White House, participated in Google’s science fair and included in Time’s “Most Influential Teens of 2015” list. He and his immediately family ended up moving to Qatar, where a foundation offered to pay for his education.

Irving Mayor Beth Van Duyne at the time said she stood behind the actions of her police department,

Ahmed’s family is still suing Irving ISD and Irving Police for $15 million in damages, according to Mohamed’s uncle.

The Department of Justice is investigating Irving ISD after dozens of Democratic members of Congress called for an investigation.

Ahmed is now at the family’s Irving home before he will travel across the states.

Message to Irving Texas: don’t be afraid to take this b.s. civil suit to trial. I have a strong feeling that Clock Boy’s case is just not going to play well.

The real penalty is the legal expenses incurred in this garbage suit. The amount is obviously unrealistic, but provides plenty of wriggle room for the lawyers to negotiate a substantial settlement. Ultimately, they want to settle for just enough that it will equal the expense and trouble of fighting the lawsuit.

The US needs a “loser pays” provision so frivolous or harassment lawsuits of this type are discouraged.

Notice the family misses the environment of the US, but says nothing about contributing to it. A good way to contribute would be to drop the lawsuit and acknowledge that the police needed to protect the school, even if they went a bit overboard. But, with people like these, they’re always entitled to something and never seem to contributing.

I personally think Ahmed was played as a pawn by first his father, and then Obama and CAIR. They shamelessly exploited him.

As for Ahmed, he seems to have a mediocre technical ability which might fit San Marcos University or the University of Kansas or a technical community college, but would leave him totally at sea at places like MIT, which is also exploiting him.In true affirmative action style, he’ll probably get into a university far beyond his ability, and spend his whole college career seething about the injustice of the American system.

The city’s liability insurer(s) will foot the bill for the suit. I know how this works, I’ve been litigating for decades. $15 million is clearly a b.s. “pie in the sky” demand, but signals that the kid’s family wants 7 figures for this. I can’t imagine it will cost anywhere near that to work this case up for trial. If the kid gets blown up at his deposition (pun intended) his family may rethink this. But based everything in the news about what happened, this is a very defensible case. And based on current events, this isn’t a good time for another plaintiff to be claiming that police and school officials over-reacted to a bomb. or to a “hoax bomb.” And unless there is a heavy Muslim demographic in Irving, I seriously doubt the jury pool is going to be at allfavorably disposed to this family.

          Norger,

Thanks for your post. I’ve noticed that knowledgeable comments by lawyers have added immensely to the quality of the threads.

Interestingly enough, I live next door to Irving, although I have no inside knowledge and precious little outside knowledge of it. I tried researching based on your comments, though, and came up with this gem:
          http://madworldnews.com/islamic-tribunal-texas-muslims/

There is a large mosque in Irving. Apparently, they tried implementing an “informal” sharia court. The mayor of Irving got wind of it, and publicly supported a Texas bill that specifically forbade any tribunal not based on US law. She was attacked by the Muslims and held her ground. Yes, you heard right. A public official who did not cave at the first whine by Muslims.

Kudos to brave Irving Mayor Beth Van Duyne! We need more leaders like her.

      @RonaldB

That’s really interesting about the local dynamic. You are right that most cases settle, but there’s a lot for the defense to work with here. Whoever is coaching this kid is not doing the civil case any favors by having him trumpet a $15 million demand–he and his family have already been showered with all kinds of gifts & invitations. This makes them come off as even more scheming, opportunistic and greedy.

I’m biased, but in the few sound bites I’ve heard, Ahmed sounds completely phony and rehearsed to me. He comes from a family of Islamic gadflies;it’s no coincidence that his father tried to defend Islam in a debate with Robert Spencer– and was badly embarrassed. That didn’t work, so here comes the victimhood card.

If this case were to get tried, it would get lots of media attention. A defense verdict would effectively be a rebuke to everyone who jumped on Clock Boy’s bandwagon. I’d love to see it.

Yes, DP111–we see what stagnant sh*tholes countries are where Islam has completely “won”–places like Afghanistan, Yeman, and Somalia, with subsistence economies and very little trade of any kind.

Islam has been parasitic from its earliest days–the “Prophet” Muhammed despised productive labor, and even preached that Muslims who worked hard rather than pillaging and enslaving Infidels were bound for hell.

Most of the “achievements” of Islam were actually done by non-Muslims recently conquered by Muslims, before they were completely ground down by Muslim oppression. That is what the “Golden Age” of Islam was comprised of.

No surprise that Islam collapses when it has no more Kuffar to exploit.

Indeed. This was a set-up from the word go, and not coincidentally, has thus far been thing that ever happened to this manipulative, opportunistic, attention seeking family. If a kid from any other ethnic or religious group did this, he’d be suspended from school, let back in, case forgotten.

Would you rather have the school err on the side of caution or not when a device appears to a bomb?

Because his name is Ahmed and he’s Muslim, he gets invited to the White House, NASA,MIT….it’s just sickening how hard they fall for this transparent nonsense.

    Mr. Spencer,
There’s a new article over on TakiMag that deserves your, or Mr. Fitzgerald’s, analysis. It’s a basic apologist piece, but it’s an excellent example of the typical equivalency that is being peddled by Western journalists concerning islam. The article is at:

Guy, I’d say that this is the usual Islamophilic twaddle, except that it actually admits that Islam is a religion imposed at sword-point. The odd thing is that the author appears to *admire this*.

Whether Allan Massie would actually enjoy being forced to accept Islam or be killed himself is, oddly, something he does not really address.

And referring to Islam as a “comprehensible civilization” is not, of course, necessarily a compliment. In most cases, it means that Islam allows for no freedom at all.

      • Guy_Montag says

        Jul 1, 2016 at 10:00 pm

        GI,
It’s definitely an odd article. It hits the usual points of false equivalency that I expect from the journalistic West, a nihilistic desire for cultural suicide, but it takes a weird new tack. I think Robert and/or Hugh’s analysis are required to correctly address this convoluted article.

      • Guy_Montag says

        Jul 2, 2016 at 6:49 am

        GI,
Allan Massie has just submitted another article to TakiMag, a Brexit piece. The quote that I find most nonsensical is:

“For the moment at least, Angela Merkel, the most important and most sensible of Europe’s leaders, is sympathetic and understanding, saying there is “no need to be nasty” to Britain…”

Almost eight decades in the West, and Mr. Massie embraces the suicide of the West. Madness.

This article by Massie is a companion piece to Traub’s recent article in Foreign Policy, succinctly analyzed by Hugh.

Massie admits to Islam being imposed at sword-point, but only after implying that it was a response to the Crusades by bringing up the Crusaders first. Massie doesn’t have a good understanding of time-lines – or maybe he is deliberately distorting the time-lines.

      • mach37 says

Also, I found the “comprehensible civilization” moniker a very curious arrangement of words; as if “comprehensible” was synonymous with “good.” A civilization is not good just because it is understandable.

Yes–Islam is incredibly racist. The “Prophet” himself referred to Ethiopians as “raisin heads”.

The family is really trying to clean up at the taxpayers’ expense: $15 million because law enforcement was trying to protect children! And who cares if in the future, school staff and law enforcement are forced to be so careful about not offending a Muslim that bombs actually do go off in classrooms? If the family gets $15 million, I guess they figure, why should they care about anyone else? They can retire to some beach.

If we could get Yerushalmi to countersue, wouldn’t that be sweet.

”If we could get Yerushalmi to countersue, wouldn’t that be sweet.”

      Indeed.

It’s time to call their stupid bluff. Where, in the Western world, would it be possible for this little meretricious *wanker* and his disgusting family to carry on such an obvious scam ? Only in the West, where we have been so demoralised and stupefied by ‘white guilt’, and crap about ‘racism’, that we appear to be unable to call out this little sh*t for the meretricious scumbag that he is. Pointing out the massive cracks in this little turds version of events is apparently ‘racism’.

He *says* that MIT blah, blah, have invited him to grace their hallowed halls. OK, lets see **MIT** tell him to describe, to **all** of us, exactly how he made the ‘clock’, and exactly *how* it works ! I can;’t wait !

This pathetic little tool will never be able to tell **anyone* how he made the ‘clock’, because , of course, he never made anything. How disgusting and revolting, and **pathetic** this all is. This stupid little brat is being **used**.

I’m raging against him, but of course, the target of my rage should be against his vile parents, and the disgraceful American media circus which has enabled him and his foul family. On the other hand, this little pipsqueak is, what, fourteen ?, so he has reached the age of intelligence, and the concept of morality.

In fact, I loathe them **all**, and hope sincerely that that the American Justice system tells them all to go and scr*w themselves.

        Jun 30, 2016 at 7:12 pm

        Gee, Mirren,

Perhaps we should explain how the clock works for our little “genius” from someone who actually made one from “scratch”. When you start off with a microprocessor with more computing power than the early IBM 360, “scratch” may be exaggerating. This is simplified:

There is a central crystal-controlled oscillator with a frequency-divider circuit to provide a baseline pulse that drives counter circuits in the “jungle” chip or an input to the microprocessor if the clock is a computer. The early alarm clocks were jungle chips until microprocessors became cheap. Counter circuits, discrete or software loop controlled, provide the time that is both displayed and compared to a stored value that represents the alarm set time. When the numbers match, the alarm is switched on. The display in the clock-boy clock is a multiplexed LED display. In this case, multiplexing means turning on the display digits one at a time so quickly that the image persistence of the human eye holds the image of a digit until the next time it is presented. You can test for multiplexing by picking up the device display and moving it quickly from side to side. This is how the novelty pendulum display clock shows all digits with a single digit display.

I could go on to describe the individual components that make up the shiift registers, bi-stable latches, oscillator, comparators, ALU, and microcode set – but that’s for clock-boy to learn and tell us

Yeah, I know, booooring, even to me.

          Hello Wayne.

My first was the same. Later I learned how to build it in software as a part of a data logger. Those were heady days before MITI and Japan took over the IC market and consumer electronics. I hope those were exciting days for you, as well.

        • Westman says

          Jul 1, 2016 at 2:04 pm

          Yes, Wayne,

I did own a Pickett slide rule and I still have a TI-36 solar scientific calculator that still works. I remember those “rich” days.

My very first self-taught projects involved vacuum tubes until my first CK722 transistors became available through a friend’s engineer father. We both were interested in electronics. I often wonder what happened to Charlie in his life after my family moved and I lost contact. I thank him and his father, every so often in my mind, for providing the opportunity for experience that sent my life in a secure and interesting direction.

Perhaps one thing was lost by learning the physics of how everything functions – childhood magic. On the other hand, I understand what is worthy of caution and what is not. There is a lot of confidence that comes from understanding an unseen world.

          Wayne,

I think technology, particularly automation, distorted the normal bell curve of employment and eliminated too many labor jobs, leaving millions without a decent wage or even a job.

Maximizing returns to shareholders is not a sufficent goal to maintain a stable society. It may bring high profits in the short term yet it is weakening society and undermining family life. Men and women need respectable and adequately paid work.

          Jul 2, 2016 at 10:10 am

          Wayne,

There is a bright side to technology. It has accelerated the obsolescence of Islam. Today, Islam in the majority is an economic death sentence for a nation that doesn’t have a natural resource to sell.

It was born in the desert, in a zero-sum economy where the physically stronger took more of the pie by force – a Warlord Culture. It is out of step with modern life and is strongly anti-capitalist. I think the migration to Europe represents a beginning to the failure of Islam as its adherents come to the reality that it is retarding their quality of life in Europe.

Ahmed’s lawyer probably figured they stood a better chance of collecting the $15m if they came back to the US. I don’t expect them to collect $15m, but with the state of judgery as it is in the US these days they might collect a portion of that.

This Clan is milking it for all they can. Maybe Atty Genrl Lynch met them at Port of Entry to find out about Qatar and give them advice on Civil Rights. After all this week she compared grandchildren stories with Bill C who is under investigation like Hillary on a private plane alone for 30min. I’m not a birther but I might start believing since 2 President 16 years have taken the moral fiber of the US to depth unknown. If Hillary wins I can’t fathom.the outcome.

    Jun 30, 2016 at 11:10 pm

I agree with the other commenters here that once the family got a taste of real Islamic life, they came running back to the comforts and freedoms of a secular society. I am reminded of Eldridge Cleaver, who jumped bail in 1968, lived in exile in Cuba, Algeria, and France, but came back to the U.S. in 1975, after finding out first hand that life outside the U.S. is not nearly as good as many people claim (especially his time in Algeria).

    • Ed Lee says

      Jul 1, 2016 at 12:32 am

Cleaver’s remarks in 1975 when he returned to the U.S. made it clear that he saw intolerance, corruption, and slavery in Algeria that made the U.S. of the 1960s and 1970s seem almost benign. To change gears somewhat, do you remember the 1968 Playboy interview with football player-turned-actor Jim Brown? In a very gutsy move for a black American celebrity, when the interviewer asked him about “Black Power”, he answered that “it’s not black power, or white power, it’s green power. If you have the money, people will listen”. He is a man who was well ahead of his time.

Clock Boy makes my blood boil. He is emblematic of both the deceit of Islam and the suicidal self-delusion of the West.

Whoa! Hold the horses! What the kid brought into the school was a timer for an IED. You can’t call just any undisassembled digital timer suitable for a bomb, but what he had WAS suitable for one, just because its open circuitry was just the thing for an IED.

What would be the reason for this is utterly ridiculous lawsuit, in which the family is asking for 15 million dollars??? Are you kidding me? Police, other public officials do have the right to contact the authorities if THEY SUSPECT…they don’t have to be correct, if there’s a reason to believe, considering the kid is Islamic, young, male…and of course, with the RASH OF TERRORIST BOMBINGS, MURDERS…I say, a simple apology would be sufficient. Him and his family are lucky they’re even here to begin with. It’s not a right to be here in America…It’s a privilege, or it used to be one. Privilege-means you earn the right.
