Muslims yes, Jews no: The hypocrisy of the New York Times

Jun 7, 2016 8:59 am By Robert Spencer

The New York Times always sides with Muslims and against Christians and Jews. It is not a reliable source of news and analysis. It is just another propaganda arm retailing the point of view that the political elites want you to hold — and that point of view is that special accommodation for Muslims is always and everywhere justified, while accommodations for any other group are an affront to the Constitution.

“Muslims Yes, Jews No: The Hypocrisy of the NY Times,” by Rabbi Benjamin Blech, Aish.com, June 4, 2016:

This time the New York Times really outdid itself.

If there were an award for hypocrisy, the hands-down winner should clearly be the paper which has long regarded itself as “the newspaper of record.” Within the span of just a few months, the Times editorial board took heated and diametrically opposed positions on the identical issue – the only difference being whether an accommodation was being made for the religious sensitivities of Muslims or of Orthodox Jews.

This past February, when the city of Toronto allowed for women-only sessions at a public pool at specific hours at the behest of Muslim residents, the Times was delighted. Although it was a story from across the border, the editorial writers of the newspaper gushed at this beautiful demonstration of “community integration.” This was a “model of inclusion.” Here was Canada showing us how citizens with differing views of modesty and morality could be extended the courtesy of understanding and the consideration of a policy which would be willing to extend community benefits to all at the cost of minimal sacrifice. The pool might not be open to everybody at all times, but everybody could find some times to enjoy a publicly funded recreation.

So religious accommodation, the Times effusively affirmed is a good thing even if, just like any accommodation, it requires a little compromise. But remarkably enough that is not the way they saw it at all when the ideal was now offered as justification for Orthodox Jews having a few hours during the week set aside at a municipal pool in Brooklyn for women whose religious scruples prevent them from swimming together with men.

Suddenly the former defendants of inclusiveness viewed the matter in a totally different light. This desire on the part of, as it turns out, an exceedingly large number of residents in that particular area of Williamsburg to be true to their traditions of modesty is, according to the New York Times, an affront to “the laws of New York City and the Constitution.” The same Constitution in whose name liberals today so vociferously demand equality for same-sex marriages, unrestricted bathroom use for trans-genders and a host of other “rights” which may upset others it seems according to the interpretation of the Times is unequivocally opposed to granting consideration to Orthodox Jews for their beliefs….

One would think that separating people into groups – in this case because of gender – would be segregation. Good thing the NYT is here to tell me it’s inclusion!

BOOM! You said it! A Fine example of doublespeak if I ever heard one. Muslims/CAIR especially, scream for inclusion,(which they already HAVE per the Constitution) yet what they really want is special treatment/rights.

Someone needs to remind them that “As long as there are special rights, there can be no equality”- Camille Paglia

I am not surprised at all. The “enemy” the political left and the Muslims have in common ist the Jew. It is the same over here in Europe. The media and the so called elites please the Muslims whereever they can. At the same time they ignore the jew hatred of the Muslims in Europe and abroad, and portray Israel as an evil creation.

At most outdoor public swimming pools spectators can watch from behind fences or other barriers. Maybe they will need to build high, slippery, opaque walls around the outdoor pools so the muslimas won’t have to swim in their piqabs.

Will Canadian cities on lakes or on the ocean have to decree and enforce “female only” swimming times in lakes, oceans, and rivers to accommodate Muslims? How will they keep the men away so they don’t watch? Will male relatives accompany them?

So, now to be fair will there have to be male only swim time, and separate swim time for every letter of
LGBTQO (are there any more, or are those covered by O?) communities?

The NYT is consistent with its Jews are the news only after they are killed in the Holocaust not during the Holocaust or when they offend the Palestinians. This is because the previous Ochs-Sulzberger publishers were doctrinaire Reform German Jew and Arthur Ochs Sulzberger (a non-identifying Presbyterian) who do not believe the Jews have ethnic claims as national group (as opposed to Arabs, who can claim to be Palestinians, Saudis, etc) and hence really have no rights to Israel, should be relegated to the back pages during Holocausts and by no means be given separate swimming hours,
Jews are only news when they annoy the Palestinians.

There has been a change for the worse in the media: Today the terrorists are not called freedom fighters and not even fighters: they are presented as bystanders who are killed by Israel for no reason.

What if the media reported every terrorist attack the same way they reported terrorist attacks against Israel? Video Sparks created this video to show you what the headlines would read:

The horrible headlines continue to flood the media. Despite Israelis coming under attack from a wave of Palestinian terror, for many media outlets the story is all about Palestinian “victims” of Israel: MORAL AMBIGUITY

Wave of Palestinian Violence Accompanied by Spate of Bad Writing 10-14-15 CAMERA–Some correspondents and headline writers are doing a fine job reporting on the outbreak of terror in Israel, but all too many others are failing at this task. Journalists in the latter category have relied on the passive voice, euphemism, and imprecision — reportorial smoke and mirrors — to obscure Palestinian terror attacks and even recast terrorists as victims of arbitrary Israeli violence.

What explains the absence of investigative reporting into Hamas crimes in the Western media? Who Is Jailing and Torturing Palestinian Journalists? by Bassam Tawil 11-25-15
    http://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/6941/palestinian-journalists-persecution
The Palestinian Authority (PA) sees no need for international intervention to halt its own crackdown on freedom of speech. Nor does it consider the closure of a newspaper office and the detention of journalists as a “war crime.” The report reveals that Palestinian detainees have been undergoing severe torture while in PA detention. During the past few years, ten people have died in Palestinian prisons. As far as we can see, no one from the European community has taken the slightest notice.

I got to admit – I didn’t even know this memorial existed. However, it took me two seconds to realise why – it received zero publicity. Now why do you suppose that? Why hasn’t the media expressed their gratitude? Name me another country that’s done more?

About 50 million people visit New York every year & more than 8 million live there but no one seems to have heard of The Teardrop…. yet it’s a 100ft tall, 175-ton memorial to those who died on the city’s blackest day.

It only takes Trey Gowdy 3 minutes to leave the Media totally speechless. RE-POST PATRIOTS!
      https://www.facebook.com/NationInDistress/videos/625674134230085/

Trey Gowdy nails it. Is there a more despicable, treasonous, complicit, compromised and worthless group of individuals than those in the media? These people are right there morally next to any other social predator; rapists, child molesters, terrorists. I’m almost sixty. I’ve seen our media go from Walter Cronkite tearing up at men landing on the moon, to shilling for terrorists;.Jew murdering, ideological soul mates and full fledged partners with the Nazis. Really, is it any stretch to compare every one of them to rapists and child molesters?

Not in my wildest imaginings did I ever think I would live to see our Fourth Estate run praise child killing terrorists to the skies while bashing the most persecuted people in world history. And trying to outdo themselves by running interference for cop murdering, rioting thugs.

I’ve seen things decline. I’ve seen our government ultimately sell us out and not even hiding behind a pretense anymore.

I’ve been on a Bonanza kick lately. And watching other old western episodes. I’d forgotten how much they referred to God and the Bible on that show. And most Westerns really. And I can’t help but think how those frontier newspapers were always portrayed. You know what I’m talking about. How many times have you seen where the bad guys come in to the newspaper office and trash the place and beat up or kill the intrepid newspaper man? So that the “truth” wouldn’t get out. Today the newspaper men and “reporters” are coming in and wrecking the truth themselves. Really, they might as well burn their buildings to the ground. They are so morally bankrupt they are simply worthless. I haven’t watched the “news” in years. And it sickens me that a disproportionate number of people still do. We live in a sick society. And the fact that people actually believe what these social perverts are telling them speaks to the disease that is this nation’s decline.

      http://hurryupharry.org/2014/07/31/40-questions-for-the-international-media-in-gaza/

      1. Have you or any of your colleagues been intimidated by Hamas?

      2. Do you feel restricted in your ability to ‘say what you see’ in Gaza?

      3. How do you feel about the Spanish journalist who said Hamas would kill any journalist if they filmed rocket fire?

      4. Has Hamas pressured you to delete anything you have published?

      5. Has Hamas ever threatened to take your phone, laptop or camera?

      6. Has Hamas ever taken the phone, laptop or camera of a colleague in Gaza?

      7. Have you seen Hamas fighters in Gaza?

      8. If yes, why have you not directly reported Hamas fighting activity when you are eye-witnesses in Gaza, but rather indirectly reported about what the IDF says Hamas has done?

      9. Are you scared to publish photos of Hamas operatives on your Twitter page, or broadcast images of Hamas fighting and aggression on your news channel?

      10. Have you published any photos of terrorists launching rockets in Gaza? If so, are these images being turned down by your newspaper or broadcaster?

      11. Have you thought of interviewing the traumatised residents of southern Israel?

      12. When Israeli authorities say that most of the dead in Gaza are terrorists, and Hamas says most of the dead in Gaza are civilians, how do you differentiate?

      13. When Hamas Health Ministry statistics contradict Hamas’ own propaganda and reveal that mostly men of fighting age have died so far in Gaza, does it give you pause for thought?

      14. Is an underage armed terrorist still counted as a terrorist or a child when killed? Or both? Do you explain to your readers how this is possible?

        Part III

        15. Have you put to Hamas spokespersons that firing rockets from civilian areas in a war situation will draw return fire and lead to the death of civilians?

        16. Nick Casey of the Wall Street Journal tweeted: “you have to wonder with the shelling, how patients at Shifa hospital feel as Hamas uses it as a safe place to see media.” Never mind wondering; did you ask any patients how they feel?

        17. And how do you feel about the fact that Casey subsequently deleted his tweet?

        18. Russia Today journalist Harry Fear mentioned rocket-launching sites near his hotel. Have you noticed any terrorists or terror bases near your hotel?

        19. How do you feel about Fear’s expulsion from Gaza, for tweeting about the rocket launches from civilian areas? Are you worried that you might also be expelled from Gaza?

        20. Did you see any Hamas terror personnel inside Al-Shifa hospital?

        21. Have you interviewed a Hamas spokesperson inside Al-Shifa?

        22. Have you seen any rocket-launching sites in or around the vicinity of a hospital?

        23. Have you interviewed hospital staff or patients as to how they feel about their buildings being used for terror activity?

        24. Hamas’ command and control bunker is underneath Al Shifa hospital. Is this worth reporting? Have you asked to gain access to it, so you can interview Hamas commanders?

        25. French newspaper Liberation reported that Hamas’ Al Qassam offices are next to the emergency room at Shifa hospital, before deleting the article. Was the reporter right to delete the article, and will the information appear in the media at some point still?

        26. When the missile hit Al-Shati hospital where children were killed, did you see Hamas operatives collecting the debris of the fallen Palestinian rocket, as Gabriel Barbati reported? Did Barbati pick up on something you missed?

        27. Barbati prefaced his tweet by writing “Out of Gaza, far from Hamas retaliation.” Will you also report differently about Gaza when you are out of Gaza, far from Hamas retaliation?

        28. Can live journalism by reporters who are scared of retaliation from the authorities they are reporting about really count as pure journalism, or is journalism in that context fundamentally compromised?

        29. Have you seen or heard evidence of Hamas using civilians as human shields, by forcing or “encouraging” them to stay inside or enter into a building that has received a knock on the roof?

        30. Have you seen or heard evidence of Hamas storing weapons inside schools, houses, flats, mosques or hospitals?

        31. Have you interviewed Gazan residents to find out if they have – or know someone who has – a tunnel dug underneath their house? How do they feel about this?

        32. Have you tried to interview any of the parents of the 160 Palestinian children who died building the terror tunnels?

        33. Have you asked Hamas spokespersons why they are setting out to murder children by firing rockets towards civilian populations?

        34. Have you interviewed any UNRWA officials about why Hamas are storing weapons in their schools, and how the weapons got there?

        35. Are you currently investigating how Hamas rockets ended up in UNRWA schools?

        36. Are you currently investigating why UNRWA returned rockets to Hamas and their police force?

        37. When Hamas breaks a ceasefire with Israel – as it has done 6 times – how easy is it to report on this from Gaza?

        38. Is there any anti-Hamas sentiment in Gaza, and how is it expressed?

        39. Were you aware that Hamas chose to execute dozens of anti-war protesters in Gaza, and did you not consider this to be worth
        reporting?

        40. Is international media reporting from Gaza free from pressure and intimidation, or is there a real problem – and if so, how will you address it?
