Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

UK Muslim police chief: “Freedom of speech does not mean freedom of offending culture, religion or tradition”

Jun 16, 2016 7:49 am By Robert Spencer

That means that speaking out against jihad violence, or the Sharia oppression of women, non-Muslims, and gays, or the anti-Semitism that is so deeply ingrained in the Qur’an and Sunnah, is not, in Umer Khan’s view, speech that should be accorded protection, but should, rather, be forcibly silenced. Welcome to the New Britain, where people like Umer Khan are in the ascendancy, and soon the freedom of speech will be a dimly-remembered relic of a past despised as jahiliyya.

Umer Khan

“Muslim Police Chief Says ‘Offending Culture, Religion And Tradition’ Not Protected As Free Speech,” by Liam Deacon, Breitbart, May 9, 2016:

A Muslim Police Chief Inspector for Greater Manchester has indicated that, according to his understanding, “Freedom of speech does not mean freedom of offending culture, religion or tradition”.

Chief Inspector Umer Khan made the statement on social media this weekend, and was immediately questioned by alarmed free speech campaigners.

He then apologised to those defending the right to be offensive for any “offence cause”, and argued that, “free speech should be used to promote tolerance & respect all.”

“[The statement regarding free speech] was a thought after a moving visit to Auschwitz”, he added.

When asked if Mr. Khan and the police force generally support the right to offend religious beliefs, the Greater Manchester Police press office told Breitbart London: “I don’t think we support anyone who would want to say anything offence[sic]”.

“It’s a storm in a tea cup… It’s about promoting tolerance, freedom of speech, that’s all he meant with it. He didn’t mean for it to be taken in an offensive way at all… it’s ironic, freedom of speech is what he’s now getting in trouble for”, the press office added.

A Greater Manchester Police Spokesperson added in an official statement: “A GMP Chief Inspector made a post on a personal Twitter account which has been taken out of context.

“He has apologised for any concern caused, which wasn’t the intention and has deleted the post.”

Screen Shot 2016-05-09 at 14.52.04

Speaking at the Jewish representative council of Greater Manchester last year, the senior Muslim police officer warned that religious tension was increasing in the city, and said police would tackle perceived “hate speech”.

“I am proud to be a police officer working in Greater Manchester and proud to be a Muslim. We all need to respect each other’s religions”, he said.

Continuing: “Sadly, what is happening in other parts of the world is now coming to impact on the streets of our local communities where we like to think there is supposed to be peace, harmony, respect and tolerance.

“Over the last few years I have seen an increase in tensions between different communities and there have been massive increases in hate crime [against both Muslims and Jews]”, he said.

To tackle the perceived “hate speech”, Mr. Khan explained how Greater Manchester Police have launch a ‘We Stand Together’ campaign, which has been promoted alongside a phone app to make reporting perceived “hate crimes” easier.

However, a writer at the Godless Spell Checker blog, which first reported Mr. Khan’s tweet, gave a well rehearsed argument for why “offending’” religion is important, and not always a “hate crime”.

“Of course, any thinking person knows that [offending dogma is] exactly what freedom of speech means. Speech can never truly be ‘free’ unless it includes the right to say things some people may not enjoy hearing.

“Indeed, the right to ‘blaspheme’, mock sacred cows and challenge taboos is what has led to progress in any civil society. The price for this has always been ‘offense’. And the great thing about ‘offense’ is that it’s cheap.

“By Umer Khan’s understanding, we are not free to offend people who endorse FGM, denigrate gay people as ‘sinners’ or think the appropriate punishment for adultery is death by stoning. It’s their ‘culture’, ‘tradition’ and ‘religion’ after all.”

Mr. Khan has been a police officer for more than twenty years, yet this re-interpretation of free speech comes at a time when British police are increasing their efforts to prosecute any “offensive” posts made on social media….

    Hi Robert Spencer,
Would you post every attack by Islam worldwide, especially, during Ramadan. This way people can see the pattern on a global scale.
I know it is obvious, however, many people (if not most) cannot connect the dots.
    Thanking you in advance.

Every once and a while they slip up and reveal their true colors, they go too far with their sharia aggression. He says that “Freedom of speech does not mean freedom of offending culture, religion or tradition”. But you notice they never apply that vague and unfixed maxim to themselves, only the infidel. He says that “free speech should be used to promote tolerance & respect all.” Well first off, if you think it’s your job to determine what constitutes “free speech” then it’s not free speech, you dumb c*nt. And then “I don’t think we support anyone who would want to say anything offence[sic]”. Does that include “Slay the infidel”? Probably not.

They’re getting cocky, they are getting stronger in numbers, their giant enclaves are giving them courage to assert their sharia bigotry like we knew they would. It’s only going to get worse. And I hate to say it, but I do think we’ve lost Britain.

The islamic infiltration is almost complete. Chief Inspector Clouseau…er..Khan said this, and I quote:

“I am proud to be a police officer working in Greater Manchester and proud to be a Muslim. We all need to respect each other’s religions”

No mention of being a proud British or English or “happy to be part of a western society where freedom is valued above all”. Instead, “proud to be a muslim”. It won’t be long before he uses his position to promote islamic justice and jurisprudence.

England, thy days are truly numbered. The sun is about to set. These are self-inflicted wounds and no one cares.

This Muslim speaks like ALL Muslims with utter CONTEMPT to the intellect and sensibilities of ALL none Muslims and with obscene degrees of mendacity, hypocrisy and duplicity!

He said: “I am proud to be a police officer working in Greater Manchester and proud to be a Muslim. We all need to respect each other’s religions”

BUT he conveniently (like ALL Muslims) overlooks the FACT that there is NOT a SINGLE verse in Muhammad’s Quran that shows ANY Respect for any belief system outside Islam BUT on the contrary shows only hate and contempt!

No Muslim can ever be LOYAL to the British or American people who are NOT Muslims since they are considered Kuffar/ Infidels (enemies of Muhammad & Allah) to be either Subjugated or Slaughtered

“We all need to respect each other’s religions”, says Umer Khan. Here is the “excellent pattern” for muslims praised in Koran 60:4 (part of Islamic law):
“Between us and you animosity and hatred forever….”.
That is the level of “respect” recommended by Islam.

That’s why the UK needs to get out of the clutches of the EU. The EU member states have become vassals of US foreign policy. They are having a referendum June 23. And such a law should be all encompassing to include the beliefs of humanists, New Agers, and atheists, too, to name a few who might be offended by islam’s attack on them. As an atheist I finds islam to be deeply “restrictive” and “insulting” and “abusive.” It proffers murder for god and is causing it. It proffers abuse of women and does it. It condones rape of children in marriage and they do it. And the list goes on. I’m not offering here some highly convolute theory to slander their faith, they f*cking tell us this shit! they preach it! they threaten it! It’s written in their religious books as the highest truth to guide their people. Yes, I am offended, my beliefs are insulted every f*cking day. The difference is, their people are the ones doing all the raping and killing, torturing and persecuting, of innocents for religion. So ya know what you leftist c*nts, I somehow feel like I have a better case.

The changes in the UK I have read off the the UK press make me feel certain that the UK has turned the corner towards becoming an Islamic state, and there is no real hope for it. The politicians supporting the EU and Islam is one thing, but the police now forced to support it defines the change. It is almost certain that the vote on June 23 for leaving the EU will fail, partly due to the large Muslim voting bloc, and partly due to entrenched financial interests seeing a good gain from the chaos of staying. Goodbye, a civilised UK.

Umer Khan is 100% wrong: Freedom of speech DOES IN FACT MEAN the freedom of offending culture, religion or tradition.

-US Justice Clark in 1952 wrote: “[I]t is enough to point out that the state has no legitimate interest in protecting any or all religions from views distasteful to them. … It is not the business of government in our nation to suppress real or imagined attacks upon a particular religious doctrine.”
-US Justice Frankfurter noted that beliefs “ … dear to one may seem the rankest ‘sacrilege’ to another,” and added concerning “sacrilegious” speech: “[H]istory does not encourage reliance on the wisdom and moderation of the censor.”
-The Supreme Court of India on Monday 3 March 2014, dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) by Advocate M L Sharma seeking intervention by the court in directing the Election Commission to curb hate speeches. Dismissing the plea, the Apex court said that it could not curb the fundamental right of the people to express themselves.
“We cannot curtail fundamental rights of people. It is a precious right guaranteed by Constitution,” a bench headed by Justice RM Lodha said, adding “we are a mature democracy and it is for the public to decide. We are 1280 million people and there would be 1280 million views. One is free not to accept the view of others”. Also the court said that it is a matter of perception, and a statement objectionable to a person might be normal to another person.
-The Irish Law Reform Commission’s 1991 Report opined that “there is no place for the offence of blasphemous libel in a society which respects freedom of speech.”
It refused to allow the prosecution, stating “in the absence of any legislative definition of the constitutional offence of blasphemy, it is impossible to say of what the offence of blasphemy consists … In the absence of legislation and in the present uncertain state of the law the Court could not see its way to authorising the institution of a criminal prosecution”.
-The right to blaspheme religion is one of the most elemental exercises of political liberalism. One cannot defend the right without defending the practice.
Jonathan Chait, Daily Intelligencer, January 7, 2015
-“If the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter.” – George Washington
-“Once a government is committed to the principle of silencing the voice of opposition, it has only one way to go, and that is down the path of increasingly repressive measures, until it becomes a source of terror to all its citizens and creates a country where everyone lives in fear.” – Harry S. Truman
-If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” – George Orwell
-“The principle of free thought is not free thought for those who agree with us but freedom for the thought we hate.” -Oliver Wendell Holmes, US Supreme Court Justice, in United States v. Schwimmer (1929).
-“Goebbels was in favor of free speech for views he liked. So was Stalin. If you’re in favor of free speech, then you’re in favor of freedom of speech precisely for views you despise. Otherwise, you’re not in favor of free speech.” -Noam Chomsky, Manufacturing Consent: Noam Chomsky and the Media (1992).
-“The price of freedom of religion, or of speech, or of the press, is that we must put up with a good deal of rubbish.” – Justice Robert H. Jackson, prosecutor at the Nuremburg Trials
-“…if any opinion is compelled to silence, that opinion may, for aught we can certainly know, be true. To deny this is to assume our own infallibility.”
John Stuart Mill, On Liberty (1859).

      Mortimer,

Freedom of speech is one half of the liberty we, in America, (yet) enjoy – take for granted. It is freedom from retribution after freedom of speech that is valuable to all of us. What happens afterwards is critical.

Even in muslim and other “secular” middle eastern dictatorships, there is an imagery of “freedom of speech”. People complain and criticize in those countries all the time. What happens after one has exercised that right to freedom of speech, is important. In muslim nations you are automatically declared wajib-ul-qatl (fit for death or murder).

As soon as Muslims rule the UK, all that religious tolerance would fly out the window along with much of English law. Anything that would remind the British of their heritage would also be destroyed. That is what happened in much of medieval Spain under Islamic rule. The paradise and tolerance found in al-Andalus was a complete myth although any number of “useful idiots” like Karen Armstrong and others of her ilk argue otherwise.

I see no civil war in Europe. The English, like sheep to the slaughter, say nothing when their government has usurped their rights. The Germans didn’t rise up against Hitler. No, they joined him. And they elect and re-elect Merkel. I believe the English will vote to stay in the EU, the organization responsible for the no borders policy which has allowed barbarians to colonize their country.

In the US we have a President who has issued many illegal mandates and our Congress does nothing to stop him and our people will probably elect a woman who will continue the usurping the power of the people, flooding our country with Syrian terrorists because she has been handsomely paid off by Saudi Arabia. She has already mentioned that that the Constitution can be changed, specifically referring to the Second Amendment. She has attended a meeting of a UN agency in Istanbul, convened to discuss the outlawing of criticism of Islam. Her close aide (!) is a Saudi Arabian.

One of the fundamental tenets of Islam is to destroy every other religion, not respect it.

Unfortunately, there will be no shortage of Muslim arse kissing and foot washing Brits that will be howling with delight and praising this liar´s Taqqiya.

Umer KHan:“Freedom of speech does not mean freedom of offending culture, religion or tradition”.

Sure enough he is bound to argue that the will also protect OTHER THAN Islamic cultures, religions or traditions from “offendng”. But he just doesn’t understand or acknowledges the most Important Western tradition about freedom of speech.

Also he myopucally does not see the greater contextdimensions, or treachderously hypocritically ignores it.

    – He is in UK, He cannot control the whole world. which resembles a huge global interconnected village by now. So, In a world with competitive curltures, religions, traditions he should not even want to try to curtail those under UK’s laws/ control, while leaving free all outside incoming propaganda.
    – AND we are now qute sure that “the other side”, “enemy” or (friendlier); the competing culture, from Iran, Islamic world in general is also very much offending our culture, religion or tradition.
    – So, conceivably intentionally, he seeks to disempower the one side (anti-Islam, pro-Democracy) while leaving unhindered the other side (totalitarian theocracy). A big mistake or treacherous goal of him.

Second; the answer to perceived or real “bad speech” is more “good speech”. And that hugely happens too but he ignores that as well, because if he takes into account

the huge amounts of support and praise!

for specific cultures, religions and traditions”, including very much Islam,

Coming out from outsiders, in general, media and government, Up to and including the praise and support for Islam coming from the president of the USA and the Prime Minister of the UK,

he would see that he only was trying to stop the negative, which, if successful, would only leave the positive narrative about cultures, religions, traditions, which would distort reality and diminish (freedom of forming) informed choice so disastrously

If a person wants to curtail the negative judgement of cultures, religions, traditions, why don’t they then also support the curtailment of excessive praise and support for them?!

If a religion and a culture is nothing but one big mockery and a Stockholm syndrome as large as a continent, it might be appropriate to mock its adherents out of their socks. Islam, if any religion, turns its practitioners into reciting parrots and mechanical puppets in a tour de force never seen in history. That’s why Muslims are so sensitive to caricatures of their prophet: the honesty is too much, the picture presents truth and reality, and that is not tolerated but resisted with fury and terror.
But it is necessary that offense comes also to Muslims, if their mind-numbing propaganda and superstition is to be challenged.

If he really believes what he says, then he will be rounding up all the imams who quote the Christian and Jew hating or demeaning passages in the Qur’an and hadiths during their sermons. Perhaps he may go so far as to round up those who carry signs about Islam being destined to rule.
A main part of the criminal law revolves around the concept of notice, so perhaps this gentleman can create a hate and offense-free version of Muslim scriptures or at least identify all the passages that are out of bounds. While he’s at it, he could have a go at Hamas’ Charter as well.
He could try to do the same with Jewish and Christian scriptures, but since neither singles out any currently existing groups for slaughter, tax, humiliation, oppression or second-class citizenship, reviewing those books should be rather quick work.

Sometimes I thought the Muslims they live in the west will learn some of their culture, and behave like one of them. This guy said the freedom of speech will offend Muslims, first why the Muslims comes to the country wilh freedom of speech, better to stay in their country than hurt their feelings. The Muslims get offended from the speech but the screaming happily Allah w Akbar for killing someone doesn’t bother their feeling, the west has to accept it.If the deaths are their pleasure, it’s easy solution keep killing each other in their countries then all of them will be happily in their adulterous Jana with their Virgins. Muslims Don’t come to west.

    …………………………………..

So–voicing the desire to crush freedom of speech is freedom of speech?

    More:

He didn’t mean for it to be taken in an offensive way at all… it’s ironic, freedom of speech is what he’s now getting in trouble for”, the press office added.

A Muslim Police Chief Inspector for Greater Manchester has indicated that, according to his understanding, “Freedom of speech does not mean freedom of offending culture, religion or tradition”

Meaning that you should be able to play the “it’s our culture/religion/tradition” card to get away with murder, and no one can criticize you for it.

It’s a storm in a tea cup… It’s about promoting tolerance, freedom of speech, that’s all he meant with it.

Welcome to the USA. Loretta Lynch the Attorney General of the US said, after the San Bernadino massacre that she would prosecute anyone who criticized Islam and that her worst fear was that there would be a Muslim backlash. She changed her story a couple of days later, apparently after having been made aware that this would be illegal. However, if she could, she would be exactly like the Mayor of London.

Having a “MUSLIM” police chief is the exact same as having a MAFIOSO police chief, or an open member of the KU KLUX KLAN as a police chief, or a TONG & TRIAD police chief, or even a HELL’S ANGELS police chief.

You are free to say just about anything you Like in the UK EXCEPT about Muslims, Islam and Mad Mohammed of Mecca.

Regardless of how true your comment about Muslims, Islam and Mad Mohammed of Mecca is ( backed by the verses from the Koran, Hadiths and Suras ) you will get arrested by the British police ( AKA enforces of Sharia on non Muslims) for ” upsetting ” the Muslims.

Pandering to Muslims and Islam is now the top priority of the British police.
