A clear admission that the UN is thoroughly compromised and sold out to interests that are at clear variance with its (long forgotten) stated mission. If we had an administration in Washington that cared about American interests, the US, not the Saudis, would be cutting funding for the UN.
Also: what else have the Saudis bought? A full revelation of their paid-for lackeys among the American political media elites would be eye-opening, but is unlikely to be forthcoming.
“U.N. Chief Says He Went Soft on Saudi Arabia and Allies to Avoid Aid Cut,” by Colum Lynch, Foreign Policy, June 9, 2016 (thanks to John):
Ban Ki-moon, the U.N. secretary-general, confirmed Thursday he was essentially blackmailed into removing the Saudi-led military coalition in Yemen from a U.N. blacklist of countries, rebel movements, and terrorist groups that have killed, maimed, or otherwise abused children in conflict.
The move follows Foreign Policy’s exclusive report Tuesday that Saudi Arabia privately threatened to break relations with the United Nations and cut hundreds of millions of dollars in humanitarian and counterterrorism funds if it was not taken off the list. In response to the threat, Ban agreed Monday to remove Saudi Arabia and its allies from the blacklist, pending a joint review of the matter by the U.N. and representatives of the Saudi-led coalition.
The decision sparked sharp criticism from human rights advocates, who accused the U.N. chief of capitulating to pressure.
But Ban hit back publicly on Thursday, telling reporters he continues to stand by the report’s finding that the Saudi-led coalition is responsible for the deaths of hundreds of Yemeni children. Though he didn’t single out Saudi Arabia by name, Ban told reporters in a prepared statement that unnamed countries threatened to cut off financial support for vital U.N. programs if Saudi Arabia and its allies were not removed from the list.
U.N. officials said Ban received calls of protest from senior officials from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, and other close Saudi allies who demanded the stigma be lifted.
Privately, U.N.-based officials said senior Saudi representatives, including Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir, threatened to cut funding to such vital programs as those for displaced Palestinians and destitute Yemenis. They also said Riyadh raised the specter that other Arab nations, principally the oil-rich Persian Gulf states, would also follow suit, risking billions of dollars in humanitarian aid commitments….

The US has boots on the ground in Yemen. They too are guilty of the destruction of Yemen and the genocide of it’s people.
That American president ‘Obama’ has bombed 7 countries under his term…and he’s not done yet. How he earned a Nobel Peace Prize is beyond me.
Lia says
High time and past time the USA defunded the UN and started renting out or sold the green tower for a market-related price to start paying that nearly $20 T debt.

And the UN closed down, as an expensive, toothless organisation long since sold out to arab interests!

What a disgrace! It’s clear that the UN is in thrall to the Saudis. So they are in effect turning a blind eye to their brutality and it could be argued SUPPORTING it. The UN is of little or no significance today, much like its predecessor the League of Nations, and were it to go the same way, it would make little or no difference.
SBJ says
The Saudis sit on the Human Rights council of the UN. That should make one pause and think.

So human rights now means chopping off heads, beating foreign workers, raping kids and blackmail. Ok, now I got it.

Well, THAT says someth, ing about the moral integrity of the UN, doesn”t it? Perhaps if we citizens of the UK actually have the guts to tell the EU to go away and play games we can do the same with this other motley crew.

It amazes me the unconditional support western governments provide to Saudi Arabia. One of the few things conservatives and liberals agree on is that Arabia Saudi and Whabbism are evil. Event NYT has published several editorials criticizing Saudi Arabia evil influence all over the world, its financing of radical madrasas where people are radicalized. Commenters in NYT’ articles about SA are very critical of USA support to SA, they almost sound like JW readers.
The news blackout regarding Yemen war is also very telling. Every single day there are news about the war in Siria, but rarely there are news about the war in Yemen.
has SA bought every single politician in the west?

It’s quite amusing to watch the recent discomfort, muted as it may be, on the left about the UN. At least among the ones with remaining affection for humanity and conscience; a breed rare but not quite extinct. That cliché “drip, drip, drip” is there indeed for anyone to see. Anyone, of course, who goes looking for it. Strange how sexual abuse of refugees—that’s legitimate refugees being systematically exploited by UN personnel and not, as I feel a need to qualify, the current trend of organised muhajiroun predation on Europeans—doesn’t seem to interest much of the media. I’m not one for contemplating conspiracies, so I’ll just chalk this up to simple economic interest: normal Western citizens have been conditioned not to care about the UN, so it’s unwise to waste time on it. Fair enough.
This is, of course, nothing new for us of the right-leaning persuasion, but it is nice to extend a belated welcome to the UN outrage party to our ever avant-garde and “progressive” friends on the left. I’m sure there’s some postmodern analysis that can explain how you were ahead of us the whole time, so don’t feel too inadequate. Skepticism of internationalism and NGOs until proven otherwise has been empirically demonstrated to be a good idea if you like liberty and democracy. And what better example than this? It’s a concept as old as time: a chain is only as strong as its weakest link. International Affairs 101, fellows: An international organisation is destined to follow the will of the most cretinous and worthless backwater given control of a financial pressure point. Due to decades of cowardly inaction and collusion, the degenerate regimes of the Gulf have been given control over the world economy and thus a great portion of international “law”. If you don’t like it, well, that’s just too bad unless you also enjoy living pre-industrially. Now bow and shut up, or you’re an islamophobe.
As the last three decades of UN activity have made obvious to anyone paying attention, the Anglophone West should be hightailing it out of the UN without delay. There’s simply no principle in the thing, at least nothing worth associating yourself with.

How many ‘paid-for lackeys’ does Saudi Arabia have in the West? How many politicians, journalists, academics, editors, and other influential Westerners are on the jihad payroll?
Hundreds? Thousands?
