Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

Washington Post: Muslims in Orlando afraid, some have been yelled at

Jun 19, 2016 3:01 pm By Robert Spencer

“In the Fort, as many call this old Army post, some Muslims last week prayed in an unmarked building, while others worshiped at another nearby mosque where some recent passersby yelled ‘Murderers!’ Sheriff’s and police cars have been patrolling outside both.” That’s a shame. Those passersby are boorish. But what of the fact that the Islamic Center of Fort Pierce has now turned out two murderous jihad terrorists? Are we to turn a blind eye to that fact because examining it would be “Islamophobic”? And some boors yelling at people hardly seems significant when compared to 49 people murdered and 53 injured — unless, of course, you’re a Washington Post reporter.

This piece is consistent with the mainstream media’s usual practice of portraying Muslims as the victims of every jihad terror attack. Where is the Washington Post’s story about how the relatives of those killed in the jihad attack are faring?

The usual deceptions are in play here. Local Muslim activist Victor Begg says: “Whoever kills a person, it is as if he has killed all of humankind,” and the Post tells us he was “quoting the Koran.” Indeed he was. Here is the full passage:

Because of that, We decreed upon the Children of Israel that whoever kills a soul unless for a soul or for corruption in the land — it is as if he had slain mankind entirely. And whoever saves one — it is as if he had saved mankind entirely. And our messengers had certainly come to them with clear proofs. Then indeed many of them, after that, throughout the land, were transgressors. (5:32)

There is less to this than Western leaders and Islamic apologists claim.

First, note that it is not a general prohibition of killing — there are big exceptions for those who kill “for a soul or for corruption in the land.” Second, this is not a general command, but one only for the Children of Israel. Third, “many of them, after that … were transgressors” — so all it is really saying is that Allah gave a command to the Children of Israel and they transgressed against it.

What’s more, it is followed by 5:33, which specifies the punishment for those who make war against Allah and his messenger: “Indeed, the penalty for those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger and strive upon earth corruption is none but that they be killed or crucified or that their hands and feet be cut off from opposite sides or that they be exiled from the land. That is for them a disgrace in this world; and for them in the Hereafter is a great punishment.”

Thus this passage is explaining what must be done with Jews who reject Muhammad, not dictating lofty moral principles. Ibn Warraq sums it up: “The supposedly noble sentiments are in fact a warning to Jews. ‘Behave, or else’ is the message. Far from abjuring violence, these verses aggressively point out that anyone opposing the Prophet will be killed, crucified, mutilated, and banished!”

Omar Mateen would agree.

Islamic Center of Fort Pierce3

“After Orlando, some American Muslims are anxious about what comes next,” by Mary Jordan and Abigail Hauslohner, Washington Post, June 18, 2016 (thanks to Darcy):

FORT PIERCE, Fla. — In the Fort, as many call this old Army post, some Muslims last week prayed in an unmarked building, while others worshiped at another nearby mosque where some recent passersby yelled “Murderers!” Sheriff’s and police cars have been patrolling outside both.

Omar Mateen, the Orlando shooter, lived in the Fort, where other Muslims also raise families and work in hospitals and run businesses. Now, in the aftermath of last weekend’s mass shooting, they worry about what might come next at a time when some of their neighbors support Donald Trump and applaud his call to ban travel into the United States for anyone of the Muslim faith.

Abdul Raoof Shaddani is a cardiologist who came to America from Pakistan in the 1970s. He is also the imam at the Muslim Friends of Florida mosque. His organization had ordered a new sign for its two-story building, which is still being renovated. The sign was late and still not yet ready when the Orlando killings happened, and now Shaddani thinks that may be a “blessing in disguise.” People here can still gather to break their Ramadan fast at sundown free of harassment, he said; there is some safety, they feel, in the anonymity.

In the tense days since the shooting, a few non-Muslim residents have started to yell obscenities at people going in and out of the Islamic Center of Fort Pierce, the better-known mosque in town, where Mateen attended. The FBI visited it Friday to interview one of its members, said Omar Saleh, a lawyer with the Council on American-Islamic Relations’s Florida chapter, which has offered free legal assistance to the Muslim community in which Mateen lived.

At the Muslim Friends of Florida, children who usually play soccer in the parking lot in the evening are now told to stay indoors.

About 1 percent of the 44,000 people in this working-class town are Muslims. Many immigrated here decades ago, and their children are American-born. But the rise of the Islamic State in a war-torn Middle East and the current debate about banning Muslims from entering the United States as part of the fight against ISIS have left American Muslims on edge and the Muslims here unsure how to react.

“We need to have Muslims and non-Muslims interact,” said Bedar Bakht, a restaurant manager who has volunteered to cook the daily iftar meal for his fellow congregants at the Islamic Center of Fort Pierce. “We have to introduce ourselves to people — tell them, ‘Look, we are normal people. I watch movies. I listen to music.’ ”

Bakht used to cook the meals, eaten after sundown during Ramadan, in the mosque’s kitchen, but he now does so at home to avoid the TV cameras. These days, the mosque is often locked. Several people said they did not know anyone who had reached out to the Mateen family because no one wants to be associated with an act of such horror….

Two years ago, another American who occasionally attended the Fort Pierce mosque left his car there before flying to Syria. There, Moner Mohammad Abusalha, who lived in a city north of here, drove a truck loaded explosives into a restaurant full of people.

“Our president said he will open the door to them,” the elderly man said, referring to refugees from the Middle East. “Trump said he will stop them from coming in.”…

Fadi Odeh, 33, a Palestinian immigrant who help runs his family’s Valero gas station and deli, a local fixture where police officers and firefighters hang out, said he feels at home here, but he acknowledged a new unease after the Orlando attack and all the talk of “Muslim radicals” on the news.

Some people, he said, “think just because you’re Muslim, you’re a terrorist.”

A steady flow of regular customers who call Odeh “Freddy” come in for sandwiches and the daily gossip, and a few crack jokes about him being a Muslim. He knows they don’t mean harm, but it’s frustrating that they don’t seem to get why it’s offensive, he said.

“A guy who lived with us for a while said, ‘Freddy, why’d you let your cousins do that?’ ” in reference to Mateen, he said. “ ‘Freddy, when you gonna plan your next operation?’ ”

Odeh said he tried to smile at the time, but couldn’t.

“People don’t get that it’s a sin” to commit violence in Islam, he said. What Mateen did, he said, “is not Islam.”

“I honestly worry about my mom,” because she wears a headscarf, he said.

Others have similar fears. One man recently insisted on driving his wife to her volunteer job at the library so that she would not be alone. A Pakistani American woman said she was unnerved to see a white couple taking pictures of her when she was stopped at a traffic light; she thought that they were doing it only because she wore a headscarf.

Several Muslims interviewed at the mosques said that they think Mateen did not kill because of religion but because he was emotionally disturbed. They think he may have pledged allegiance to ISIS to make himself famous.

Many non-Muslims here said they wonder whether the vilification of homosexuality by some Islamic scholars — they had heard Islamic extremists even killed gay men — played into Mateen’s murder rampage at the gay nightclub.

But Muslims interviewed here say radicals are not Muslims and that while Islam doesn’t condone homosexuality, it absolutely condemns violence.

A Pew Research Center study of American religions recently found that Muslims were split on homosexuality. The poll found that 45 percent of American Muslims thought homosexuality should be accepted and 47 percent thought it should be discouraged. Muslims are less accepting of homosexuality than most religious groups in the study — 66 percent of mainline Protestants, 70 percent of Catholics and more than 80 percent of Jews and Buddhists say gay relationships should be accepted. But it puts Muslims ahead of evangelical Christians and Mormons, 36 percent of whom say homosexuality is acceptable.

At a vigil in nearby Vero Beach for the Orlando victims that drew 1,000 people last week, Victor Begg, a local Muslim activist, talked about Muhammad Ali — a hero and a Muslim, a man who fought bigotry and hate.

“Ali was a winner. Omar Mateen was a loser,” he said to applause.

“  ‘Muslims don’t speak out against terrorism’ is what we often hear,” he told a crowd of 1,000. But he urged them to go online and search for any major Muslim organization and said they would find condemnations of recent attacks.

“Whoever kills a person, it is as if he has killed all of humankind,” he said, quoting the Koran.

But a few in the crowd did not welcome his presence. Three walked out when he started talking, and at one point when he spoke, a man in the crowd said, loud enough for people around him to hear: “Sit down.”

When Begg ended by saying: “Salaam, shalom, shanti, peace,” a woman in the crowd muttered to her friends: “How about, ‘God bless America.’ ”

Ahmer Raza, who owns a gas station in Vero Beach, was one of the few Muslims who went to the vigil. When Lee Olsen, the manager of the popular Waldo’s restaurant, asked people in the crowd to introduce themselves to those next to them — and hug them, too — Raza’s Pakistani American friends and family turned to strangers and embraced them.

“Come here, buddy,” one man said, clapping one of Raza’s relatives on the back.

Of course they’re afraid. Just like I’m afraid every time I make the Sign of the Cross in public when an ambulance goes by. Or say my Rosary in public. Or kneel and pray in front of an abortuary.

I mean I’m just terrified that anyone who sees me do these things will whip out a rusty knife and try to saw my head off. And who can blame me for being so scared? Because it’s happened SO many times! I mean: I’ve got my heart in my mouth 24/7. Because I’m CATHOLIC. I wear a cross!

My fear of people here in the USA wanting to kill me because I’m Catholic is exactly as reasonable as that of the idiot muslims. Which is to say, not at all.

But c’mon now everybody here on SIOA. Share your own stories! I mean, what about the Protestant post-ers here? Don’t YOU share my terror? My paralyzing fear, my unceasing hypervigilance over something that’s NEVER happened, never been known to happen; that lacks any relation to reality?

Here’s my proposal. I say we all post, 24/7, just the kind of ‘fears’ mentioned above. When the muzrats see it, [hopefully] they’ll go ballistic. And then WE’LL be all, ‘But whassa matter? OUR ‘terror’ is exactly as real as yours.’

If I say something about Muslims or Islam that someone deems offensive, AG Lynch has threatened to prosecute me or anyone else that does likewise.
If I say something about you (I won’t) that you deem offensive, too bad, live with it.
So you see You and the fearful, tearful. picked on, victimized Muslim Community are not the same.

I be not been persecuted as a Christian, but I have been persecuted for my stand on Islam. Just tonight I tearfully let a dear friend go, because he finally called me hateful. Disseminating information about Islam is hateful? Yet, still I know he never read any Islamic texts, nor took into consideration what is happening in Europe or Britain. How could a friend who knows who and what I am think I would stoop so low as to lie bout something like Islam; to WHAT cause? Why would I care if there wasn’t a need to expose Islam for what it is? He said I needed to get a new hobby that wasn’t fueled by hate. Hobby? Standing up to Islam is a hobby? If so, it is a hobby that has closed many years of friendship and left me alone. But still I will fight back in the only way I know! Give people information for as long as I can and report the things that Muslims do world wide proving how corrupt and vile Islam is. Encouraging them to read Islamic texts so they see for themselves what it is about. I will continue and like Galadriel in Tolkien’s works- “I pass the test”.

Linnte, A person who knows your heart, yet calls you ‘hateful’ and tells you to get a new ‘hobby’, isn’t your ‘friend’. However, although hard, I’d realize their denial and refusal to listen TO THE TRUTH about Islam, is either because they are totally brainwashed by Obama, gov’t, and the complicit media, OR is totally afraid of learning the reality of Islam. Know this, I’d pray for them, and move on. Hard to do. But Linnte, you are NOT alone. I’d bet that a large majority of us, who work to keep us free, and try to get our nation back to our Judeo-Christian roots, have lost ‘friends’, who prefer to keep their heads in the sand. This goes back a long time. Remember that Kruschev said to Communists ‘just wait till Americans go to sleep’….The totalitarian political ideology that is Islam/Sharia, is using it’s Islamofascism to take over.

Being part of the Counter-Jihad Movement is indeed a lonely business. Many of us have lost friends and experienced strained relationships with people who refuse to read the koran, refuse to face the truth. But what choice do we have but to continue the fight? We fight for our countries, for our children and grandchildren. It is too late – we cannot un-know what we know. The genie cannot be put back into the bottle.

I am really tired of people acting like the acceptance of homosexuality is required to stop violence against gays. 90% of the American public disapproves of a adultery, yet we don’t see extremists going after adulterers! The issue is whether or not people favor violent punishments for personal moral issues. Islam prescribes violence for a very wide range of offenses. The problem is not the rejection of homosexuality as sin, but the concept of enforcing a moral code with violence.

    • Mockingjay says

“The problem is (…) the concept of enforcing a moral code with violence”.

That is a truly excellent description of what the essence of the problem with islam is:

Islam is ALL about enforcing EVERYTHING with violence. Every “personal moral issue”, every rule for society, E V E R Y T H I N G.

Islam is not just violent against the kuffars, violence is the CORE of everything islam is.

Except, the Flint city Counsel was required to stand down and Governor Rick Snyder hired an “Emergency Official” to run the city. The Counsel became powerless at the order of governor Snyder. The reason for the water issue in the first place was Snyder needed the Huron/Detroit water line to Flint for fracking!!! He sold that 75 mile long water pipe to a fracking company. They still have polluted water. If you have ever seen or smelled the Flint River, you know how poison it is. A hundred years of heavy metals from General Motors, Ford, Chrysler, and Chevrolet have destroyed that river.

Perhaps Westerners and Eastern Europeans wouldn’t be so weary of Russia if Russia wasn’t acting like a two-bit thug while spreading virulent anti-Western (especially anti-US) propaganda that would make Stalin look like a flag-carrying Tea-Partier by comparison.

I read somewhere here that the important thing is not the correct interpretation, but the one that is being used – religion is what you make of it. If there are Muslims who interpret the Koran in such a way that it makes them dangerous, then we have to take that into account and not dismiss it, but deal with it appropriately.

    • billybob says

      Jun 19, 2016 at 4:20 pm

The interpretation being used to justify violence is the correct interpretation of Islam. That is what makes it so insidious. People like Obama want us to believe that Islam is really a peaceful religion that was “perverted” by extremists. He is uninformed or deliberately lying. It is not helpful to paint a false picture. If we believe Islam is simply misinterpreted, we miss the point, and will never find the solution to Islamic violence.

Religion is what you make of it only to the extent that if your interpretation is incorrect, people will call you out on that, and you will have no legitimacy. If there are Muslims who interpret the Koran in such a way that it makes them dangerous, it is because that is the way the Quran is and these people cannot be accused of misinterpreting it.

In the lands under the control of the jihadist/ Muslims who have set of the Islamic “state” Christians don’t live in fear of being yelled at by ISIS/Muslims. They live in fear and being crucified or being murdered by beheaded. Also,in the rogue Islamic state of Iran,Christians live in fear of not of being yelled at by Muslin but being imprisoned and tortured by Shi’ ite Muslims, Not for murdering anyone as that Muslim in Orlando did, but just for living their own lives as Christians.. Likewise Christians in even “moderate” Islamic countries as Egypt and Pakistan is the own genuine horror stories. They might only wish the Muslims would only yell and them and do them no physical harm and well as economic harm. Moreover, on a much lighter side, where I live in Pennsylvania in the shopping mall a Muslim woman yelled out at me ,in great anger because she happened not to like my Tee-shirt.just because it had the words printed on it words ” Islamofascism ; Same Fascist Tactic , Same Fascist Goals” To her I replied ” I’m sorry you feel like that” To that she just yelled out hatefully again at me. They’ll never do such a thing, Vyx. The LGBT “community” and the Muslims all see Christians as the big. number one enemy. And like Islam, it’s a fundamentally cowardly and lying bunch.

Back in the ‘Sixties in Malaysia, when there was hard feeling against the ethnic Chinese, how was it expressed? Trashing Hindu temples. Why? Indo-Malaysians were a smaller, poorer, less well-organized community (besides, had all of Malaysia’s Chinese been Communist rather than politically divided, the Malayan Emergency would’ve turned at least West Malaysia into a Chinese settler state).

Same here. A Muslim, trying to wash away his bacha bazi proclivities, shoots up a homosexual club, and HuffPo and ACLU staart whining about how Christians are to blame.

LGBT moral cowardice is also evidence in how they joined the crowd in denouncing the “pedophile” priests (Pedo only because American law defines those under 18, whom the sexual liberationists would want experimenting with and exploring all kinds of sexuality anyway, as “children”). Had the LGBT’s any courage of conviction, they’d be touting those collared shmoes as brave pioneers in the vanguard of sexual expression whose attempts to initiate young males into “something beautiful” just went a little bit wrong. And is there anyone in the LGBT movement who does not see the Roman Church as an oppressive institution deserving all the internal subversion it can get anyway? The fact that they embrace the transgenders also shows that they’re on the side of those who run away from and pretend to be other than what they are rather than people who are willing to face truth.

The LGBT crowd are not our friends, and the Orlando shootings won’t turn them against creeping Islamicization. They’re surrender monkeys pure and simple.

It seems that moslims don’t want to be called “islamists,” but they also name their barracks, “islamic centers.”

And they don’t want people to associate them with the terror rained down on non-moslims by a moslim…one some of them knew, so they whine and complain. They realize that it is a natural thing to associate their group, their building, the individual moslim with the terror, but they want everyone to continue to *embrace* their presence and their *center* in the community.

They equate someone looking at them, taking a photo or even yelling with being *terrorized.*
Because they really don’t have sympathy or empathy for the non-moslims who were killed, injured, lost a family member or even one who just fears becoming a victim to moslim terror.
They are the important people…the non-moslim is just someone from whom they may gain…money first, then blood. They see moslims as those allowed to commit murder, but non-moslims are not even allowed to vent frustration or fear.
And even if there are moslims who don’t see themselves as ever committing this kind of act, nor see it as ever a good or allowable thing, nor even commanded (delusion and confusion about their belief), they refuse to see non-moslims have feelings that might need to be expressed.
Expressed with a look, a joke, a photo or a shout. They should be glad that most people don’t go looking to make murder victims of their neighbors.

I wonder why it’s so different among Muslims who live in other democratic “western” countries. The tolerance drops considerably, for instance, among Muslims who live in England. It can’t be democracy alone that makes the difference. In the U.S. we don’t have the same restrictions on freedom of speech but I don’t see how that could make a difference – it seems it should be worse here with all the Saudi funded mosques.

In Australia halal certification is widespread.Nestle,Cadbury schweppes just the tip of the iceberg.A wide variety of products including cereals, cheeses, sauces, meat and many more.Itis a extra tax on a wde range of products.that is totally unnecessary.

“…But it puts Muslims ahead of evangelical Christians and Mormons, 36 percent of whom say homosexuality is acceptable.”

Note here how this is being spun: “if you think Muslims are intolerant, just wait ’til you see how intolerant all those Mormons and Evangelicals are!” So perhaps the WaPo can tell us exactly how many people have Evangelicals and Mormons beheaded, gunned down, blown up or cruelly maimed in the past several years in the name of their religion.

The poor innocent dears. Their feelings have been hurt. The kind, tolerant, loving, generous Muslims really just want to pray. Those evil Christians yelled at them, and they felt bad. After all, those warm, loving people with the funny headgear would never shoot up people in a nightclub, or fly planes into buildings, or rape women, or saw the necks of living people. No, they are misunderstood! And they will kill anyone who says they are violent!

Isn’t it interesting how, after a lo-o-n-ng article telling how islam is the religion of peace, and how all muslims hate violence (just check the major islamic websites for all the official denunciations of terror), after ALL of this, we find that one Ahmer Raza was one of a FEW – out of a thousand attendees – muslims at the vigil for the Orlando victims.
    Hmmmm…..

NICE ONE!! THERE GOES WOE POOR ME. THE MUSLIMS ARE VERY VERY QUICK INTO PLAY THE VICTIMS. I SAY THAT THE ONLY PRAYER I’M SMELLING IS ALLAHU AKBAR, ALLAHU AKBAR, ALLAHU AKBAR. ALL THE MOSQUES MUST COME DOWN. THESE PUBLIC LATRINES ARE FOSTERING AND STRENGTHENING THIS FALSE IDEOLOGY AND THERE WILL BE MORE OF THE SAME HAPPENING
