Those who could recite a verse from the Quran were spared, others were tortured, said a rescued hostage of the Gulshan restaurant attack where at least two lawmen were killed.

“The others were tortured by the gunmen,” said Rezaul Karim, father of Hasnat Karim who was held hostage inside Holey Artisan Bakery in the diplomatic zone for over 10 hours.

Hasnat Karim, his wife Sharmin Karim and daughter Safa, 13, and Rayan, 8, went to celebrate Safa’s birthday at the Spanish restaurant in Gulshan’s Road no-79 last night.

The birthday celebration took a dangerously unprecedented turn when gunmen stormed into the restaurant and took about 20 people, including foreigners dining there, hostage.

They were finally rescued after a joint drive of the military, paramilitary Border Guard Bangladesh, police and elite force Rapid Action Battalion pushed a heavily-manned offensive this morning.

“They (gunmen) did not behave rough with the Bangladesh nationals,” Reazul said quoting his victim son Hasnat. “Rather they provided night meals for all Bangladeshis.”

“The gunmen were doing a background check on religion by asking everyone to recite from the Quran. Those who could recite a verse or two were spared. The others were tortured.”

According to him, the gunmen were done with the foreign nationals dining in the eatery by 11:00pm last night. By the end, five gunmen sustained bullet injuries and “probably died”….

        1. Islam is a religion of peace and Islamic violence is done by those who have “hijacked” this wonderful religion.
        2. It is our duty to protect these peaceful Muslims from the violent Americans who might cause them harm.
        In view of this idiocy, it would be predicted that no Mosques would be closed or even investigated after a terrorist attack.
        What I would find unbelievable is that anyone in the world would actually close down a Mosque because it preached violence – since preaching violence is part of their game plan.

      • The first amendment of the U.S. Constitution states in part:

        “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;”

        In the U.S. Islam is considered a religion falling under the protection of the Constitution. Any laws which apply to Islam must apply equally as well to all other religions. In order to place any legal restrictions upon Islam in particular either the U.S. Constitution will have to be amended or the legal definition of the word “religion” will have to be further defined so that Islam is no longer considered a religion the same as all others. The lawmakers will have to be convinced that Islam is also a social, political and judicial system which has as its goal the overthrow and replacement of the current form of government in the United States. That will be a difficult task to accomplish ….. especially as the number of Muslims in the U.S. continues to increase. It will take more and increasingly deadlier attacks to make the case for putting some form of controls on Islam in the U.S.

        No matter what, bad times are ahead.

        • There is no need to amend the Constitution or legally define religion. We don’t want to go down that road because we don’t want the government to continue to chip away at our rights. We don’t want to get into legalese of what some entity is or is not. The solution to the problem that Mohammedanism is presenting in the West is (outside of removing Mohammedans from the West): Enforce current laws!

          Anyone who preaches, encourages, supports, or carries out the threat of violence or murder of another should be punished, period. If mosques are caught preaching, encouraging, or supporting violence or the threat of violence, they should be closed and the preachers or imams should be punished. If anyone is caught distributing material (oral, written, audio-visual) that encourages, or supports violence or murder of people living today should be punished.

        • William, what you say will not work when the underlying teachings of a religion encourage violence and the removal of the rights of others. If we should place restrictions upon what a person can say in public if his words incite hate and violence then should we not also place restrictions upon the teaching of his “holy scriptures” if they incite hate and violence? If inciting hate and violence are considered illegal, a LAWFUL religion should be defined as one that does not incite hate and violence …. which is one of the reasons why so many people want to define Islam as a religion of peace. I would like to see it proven in a court of law that Islam can be defined as a religion of peace and that it does not incite hate in its adherents and encourage them to commit violence against those their “holy scriptures” define as unbelievers.

Before going over these three denials of Islam it first should the stated the Bible instructs the way to tell if a prophet or religious teacher is really from and of God or not is do the teachings and doctrines of that prophet of teacher really fit in accord what is found in the Bible ? For if that prophet or teachers and teachers doctrines that are in contradiction to the Bible then that prophet is a false prophet and that religious teacher is a false teacher and thus in doctrinal error and darkness. Likewise if a religion had teachings and doctrines that are in contradiction that is religion is in error also part of the world of darkness and is therefore a false religion. As the Bible instructs in Isaiah 8:20. “To the law of the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” [K.J.V.] With this clearly stated, three things should be known. First, that Islam denial that Jesus is the Son of God is in great contradiction to the teaching of the Bible . Which reveals the Jesus is the Son of God? As seen in ,for example Matthew 3:16,17. 16:15,16. Luke 1:35. John 3:16-18, 36. First John 2:22,23. 4:14,15. 5:12,13. Second, that Islam denies that Jesus is God the Son is in strong contradiction to the Bible. As found in Hebrews 1:6-8. With emphasis on verse 8. Third, Islam’s denial that Jesus is God is in great contrast to the doctrine and teaching of the Bible. That Jesus is God may be found in ,for example, John 1:1;3. Colossians 1:15-17. 2:9. Romans 9:5 Second Peter 1:1. Titus 2:13. First John 5:20. Moreover, to further discover that the Bible teachings that Jesus is God all a person has to do is to compare the Old Testament with New Testament to see that Jesus is God. As in comparing Isaiah 45:22,23. with Philippians 2:5-11. Also by comparing Psalm 89:8,9. with Mathew 8:23-27. will reveal that Jesus is God. Likewise, by comparing Psalm 62:5-7 . with First Corinthians 10:4. shows the Deity of Jesus. Even by comparing the News Testament books together will show that Jesus is God. As in comparing Romans 14:12. with John 5:22. will show Jesus to be God. The list can go on but this should be enough, for all who are willing to see the truth, that Jesus is, indeed, the Son of God. That Jesus is God the Son and that Jesus is God. The imams and mullahs as well as the other apologists for Islam will try to “explain’ this all away by making the claim that the Bible had been corrupted by Christians ,through time, and that’s way the Bible reads as it does. This claim, very much, underestimate the Power of God to protect and preserve His Word ,through time , and to keep in intact and away from the corruption of men. In conclusion, in light and information of the Bible in can be seen that Islam is a awful and terrible doctrinal error concerning it teaching about the Nature of Jesus and therefore Islam is part of the world of darkness. So Islam with its strong contradictions to the Bible is a false religion, Proverbs 14:12. So all Muslims be they peaceful non-ISIS members or the violent jihadist/ISIS members are thus invited to leave the false religion of Islam and come the and receive the Jesus of the Bible who is the only way to heaven ,John 14:6 and the True Light of the world.     I used to respect her as a journalist/lawyer, until last evening when she declared that Islam is a religion of peace. She said this multiple times.
    I believe that she is a Roman Catholic, so she likely is taught that lie by her priest. Church after church are falling for this deception. Are there any denominations out there that teach the truth?
