Turkish coup attempt reportedly fails, Obama backs Erdogan, Erdogan vows arrests

Jul 15, 2016 8:19 pm By Robert Spencer

The International Spectator is reporting now that the coup attempt has failed:

Turkish coup fails

Whether it has or not, Obama has backed Erdogan, and thus the continuing Islamization of formerly secular Turkey: “Live Now: Turkish Army Attempts to Seize Control of Country,” Bloomberg, July 15, 2016:

…Here’s an excerpt from the White House release on the call between Obama and Kerry:

The President and Secretary agreed that all parties in Turkey should support the democratically-elected Government of Turkey, show restraint, and avoid any violence or bloodshed. The Secretary underscored that the State Department will continue to focus on the safety and security of U.S. citizens in Turkey.

It does not seem to over yet. The psy-ops has barely started. Both sides are trying to win the support of the population, in their own way. The only way erdogan could survive is if he turn the population against the military. The military would win if the population does not actively confront it.

This coup is quite substantial in that it involves not just multiple coordinated seizures of erdogan controlled institutions (media, law enforcement loyal to erdogan, parliament), but also the deployment of heavy military equipment including (reportedly) the used of attack helocopter against a police special unit.

While there may be some very high ranking generals who supported erdogan (corp or army level generals who themselves may be politically favoured appointments), most military officers appear not to. Incidentally, considering what has happened previously to the prosecution of senior (now retired) military officers, many within the military do not trust erdogan.

If this drags out to more than a few days, while the military maintains relatively peaceful overall control of the country, then erdogan is finished. The military is looking for him and eventually he will run out of places to hide.

So, it is not over until the Fat Lady sings.

      Lesson from history

In 1832 the powerful Mohammed Ali “the Great”, founder of modern Egypt, decided he had enough of the the Ottoman Sultan and sent his army to capture Istanbul. The fate of the Ottomans looked sealed as the Egyptian army surrounded Istanbul. The Western powers (British) panicked and rushed to rescue the Ottomans, which they did.

It would be foolish to think that Erdogan was sitting in Ankara without Western powers’ blessings. And it is foolish to think they will let him go without siding by him.
Remember, all the corrupt monarchies in the Middle East wouldn’t exist without the help of Western powers.

Prez Barack Hussein must be relieved. Now Erdogan can go back to manipulation of the press and abuse of the justice system to limit free speech by throwing dissenters in prison. It is notable here that American troops are on the line to defend this regime against external attack; Turkey is our NATO ally. My we’ve come a long way since the Berlin Wall was torn down. Coincidentally, just last week Germany passed a law making it a crime for Germans to publicly criticize Erdogan, and two weeks ago Loretta threatened to prosecute anybody in America with the nerve to criticize Islam. The ring is closing…. around our throats.

Seems like it was a faction in the army, like previous attempts. But loyal forces were greater in strengh and regained control. Expect a new purge of the military leadership of secular influences after this, though we can’t be sure at this point if the coup was secular leaning or Islamist.

And apprently coming out in favor of a failed coup attempt instead of offering the usual lip service empty words every American President makes about democracy after waiting to see who was winning, is the best option. /s

“two state solution” in Turkey, despite the real Kurds outnumbering
the “Palestinians” by about ten to one!

In turn, Erdogan “Democracy” is so well organised and efficient, and
his instantaneous sacking of more than 2700 judges appears to
indicate that he new and possibly planned the “attempted coup”

You have something there with your tongue in cheek comment about Turkey’s governmentI was in Istanbul last November on Turkey’s election day, and the consensus among the Turks I spoke with was that the election results were rigged in favor of Erdogan’s party. The polls opened on Sunday morning and the country wide results were out by 4:00; seemed really fishy. There certainly didn’t seem to be much love for Erdogan in European Istanbul.

I believe the coup attempt was staged by Erdogan himself. Since he lost power in the election and couldn’t ram through laws that made him a emperor, he staged this to grab more personal power in the name of stability and now the West can’t complain.

The Muslim Brotherhood was democratically elected with only a little support from Obama. The Nigerian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood was democratically elected with moderate support from Obama while the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood was democratically elected with massive support from Obama. The other election where Obama provided massive democratic support was in Israel to democratically oppose Netanyahu.

Obama always supports democracy. That is why he allows criminals to participate in America. Even illegal aliens are given the opportunity to learn about democracy. Democrats believe in democracy so much that they even raise the dead and have people vote multiple times.

Republicans are not nearly as democratic as the Democrats. Donald Trump will return America to the days of the Constitution where one legal and breathing citizen only has one vote. How regressive!

Looks like the U.S. has become just another terrorist state.
Obama wants to back more terrorists by backing Erdogan who has been supporting ISIS all along and guying their black market oil..
America supports all the terrorists because our politicians are heavily invested in the military industrial complex and they have to keep the WMD moving.
    We support:
    Turkey
    Israel
    Saudi Arabia
    Taliban
    Pakistan
and all other terrorist groups that will let us make them our puppet to get arms.
We have started up the cold war with Russia for no reason other than to have an excuse to raise the budget for the military industrial complex.
We agitate China for no good reason and keep trying to start a war with them
