The International Spectator is reporting now that the coup attempt has failed:
Whether it has or not, Obama has backed Erdogan, and thus the continuing Islamization of formerly secular Turkey: “Live Now: Turkish Army Attempts to Seize Control of Country,” Bloomberg, July 15, 2016:
…Here’s an excerpt from the White House release on the call between Obama and Kerry:
The President and Secretary agreed that all parties in Turkey should support the democratically-elected Government of Turkey, show restraint, and avoid any violence or bloodshed. The Secretary underscored that the State Department will continue to focus on the safety and security of U.S. citizens in Turkey.

It does not seem to over yet. The psy-ops has barely started. Both sides are trying to win the support of the population, in their own way. The only way erdogan could survive is if he turn the population against the military. The military would win if the population does not actively confront it.
This coup is quite substantial in that it involves not just multiple coordinated seizures of erdogan controlled institutions (media, law enforcement loyal to erdogan, parliament), but also the deployment of heavy military equipment including (reportedly) the used of attack helocopter against a police special unit.
While there may be some very high ranking generals who supported erdogan (corp or army level generals who themselves may be politically favoured appointments), most military officers appear not to. Incidentally, considering what has happened previously to the prosecution of senior (now retired) military officers, many within the military do not trust erdogan.
If this drags out to more than a few days, while the military maintains relatively peaceful overall control of the country, then erdogan is finished. The military is looking for him and eventually he will run out of places to hide.
So, it is not over until the Fat Lady sings.

Lesson from history
In 1832 the powerful Mohammed Ali “the Great”, founder of modern Egypt, decided he had enough of the the Ottoman Sultan and sent his army to capture Istanbul. The fate of the Ottomans looked sealed as the Egyptian army surrounded Istanbul. The Western powers (British) panicked and rushed to rescue the Ottomans, which they did.
It would be foolish to think that Erdogan was sitting in Ankara without Western powers’ blessings. And it is foolish to think they will let him go without siding by him.
Remember, all the corrupt monarchies in the Middle East wouldn’t exist without the help of Western powers.

Did this story come from Obama?

“Obama backs Erdogan”
Birds of a feather …
Alarmed Pig Farmer says
Prez Barack Hussein must be relieved. Now Erdogan can go back to manipulation of the press and abuse of the justice system to limit free speech by throwing dissenters in prison. It is notable here that American troops are on the line to defend this regime against external attack; Turkey is our NATO ally. My we’ve come a long way since the Berlin Wall was torn down. Coincidentally, just last week Germany passed a law making it a crime for Germans to publicly criticize Erdogan, and two weeks ago Loretta threatened to prosecute anybody in America with the nerve to criticize Islam. The ring is closing…. around our throats.
Kathy Brown, Esq. says
That is true Alarmed. But there’s some hope. Actually there’s a lot of hope, because Bob and David (AFLC lawyers) NEVER lose their lawsuits: https://youtu.be/NgalZRqXccA

This can make Erdogan even stronger? Sh…t!
Nigel GFF says
Indeed it will. His mandate, as he sees it, to turn Turkey into an Islamic Republic, will now have proven and increased popular support. To quote another, dammit.
umbra says
Well he is going to purge the military, specifically the officer corps. Perhaps that will make the turkish military more impotent.
Ross A Lloyd says
We all know Islamist BO will support his equally criminal Islamist mate Erdogan.
Baucent says
Seems like it was a faction in the army, like previous attempts. But loyal forces were greater in strengh and regained control. Expect a new purge of the military leadership of secular influences after this, though we can’t be sure at this point if the coup was secular leaning or Islamist.
Rita says
What a pity!!! Bloody Obama and Adolf Erdogan sitting in a tree……so it was only a lover’s quarrel after all that gave us false hope.
Myxlplik says
Well Obama is quite consistent here, he backed Muslim Brotherhood Mohamed Morsi too.
MS Case says
If Muhammad was still alive…if he ever existed that Is, Obama would surely be in his corner.
DFD says
Naah, on his lap
Mazo says
Apparently Obama backed Morsi since he did nothing about Sisi’s coup except offer meaningless lip service verbal condemnation and then proceedes to continue military aid to Egypt under Sisi. /s
And apprently coming out in favor of a failed coup attempt instead of offering the usual lip service empty words every American President makes about democracy after waiting to see who was winning, is the best option. /s
You are truly a strategic genius. /s
DustyFae says
Just like OBAMA backed Mursi Hope the Other Nations will grab Obama next time he is in their Nations and put him in their jail for Crimes Against Humanity
They are going to go to war any ways, so the other Nations need to grab USA war mongers…

Obama is almost as bad a president as Jimmy Carter

John spielman says
You mean dhimmmi carter
Hank says
At least Jimmy was an ethical man. Maybe too honest for the job. No BO is uch worse!
Jerry says
@Hank
Well …, another “ethical” Antisemite more, another less, what the matter?
Have not yet heard Dhimmi Carter or Hussein Barak Obama call for a
“two state solution” in Turkey, despite the real Kurds outnumbering
the “Palestinians” by about ten to one!
In turn, Erdogan “Democracy” is so well organised and efficient, and
his instantaneous sacking of more than 2700 judges appears to
indicate that he new and possibly planned the “attempted coup”
himself, and new about it more than the alleged “materminds” in
a masterstroke of Hitlerian style “Democracy”.
firefox says
Whatever Carter did it can’t hold a candle to Obama and his “weaken-and-destroy-democracy-then-Islamify-the-USA-and-the-world-for-allah-while-denouncing-Christianity” policy while pretending to be American and black.
This is Obama’s jihad!!!

Well, if the International Spectator tweeted it . . .
Angemon says
The EU also backed the “democratically elected government”, although they seemed to have done so after the turnabout.
Norger says
You have something there with your tongue in cheek comment about Turkey’s governmentI was in Istanbul last November on Turkey’s election day, and the consensus among the Turks I spoke with was that the election results were rigged in favor of Erdogan’s party. The polls opened on Sunday morning and the country wide results were out by 4:00; seemed really fishy. There certainly didn’t seem to be much love for Erdogan in European Istanbul.

Turkish coup attempt reportedly fails, Obama backs Erdogan, Erdogan vows arrests
…………………
Terrifying, if true. There will be a bloodbath of remaining Turkish secularists.
quota raven says
It’s too soon to come to any conclusions about what has happened, who did what, and why. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Erdogan is OUSTED and replaced by a truly democratically elected secular government, as was in place when he took office, I believe.
Cheers!

Edward says
Let us not give up on Erdogan’s ouster!
The General Sisi from Egypt may step in the coup to help – he is man with an attribute of high morality and endless prudence! Egypt joining Turkey would bring stability in the now unstable and turbulent ME!
If BO steps in to hinder Turkeys coup’s he will come to regret it! The USAF outfit in Turkey may go against his wishes to quash the coup efforts.
The newly built minaret’s on the grounds of the Hagia Sophia Church in Istanbul must be demolished!
Edward says
That would be the converted Byzantine church of Hagia Sophia to a mosque!

So, so sad. Hate to see this…more people fighting and dying…

Oh Bumma seems to grin from ear-to-ear whenever he sees islam growing politically somewhere in the world. Leftists are incredible hypocrites, separation of Church & State for Christianity, support of Mosque & State for Islam.
More Ham Ed says
By that I mean a balance of power is certainly a good thing, and I don’t want to see the British Roman Catholic Church rule millions of citizens again, but the same leftists that are tearing down crosses and 10 Commandments plaques everywhere (they often LOSE such lawsuits because such things are considered culture-based heritage & not state imposed) – but I digress those same leftists secretly smile at islam’s political gains because they know it will lead to more chaos & anarchy, so the growing leftist government can step in and take control.
Mockingjay says
“Leftists are incredible hypocrites, separation of Church & State for Christianity, support of Mosque & State for Islam.”
That pretty much covers it.
How VERY well stated, MHEd!
Jack Everett says
Why don’t you sober up and start supporting Americans if you want to live here.

…And Erdogen saying the coup being influenced by this Gulen in Pennsylvania? if he is an Islamist, why did we let him come live in the U.S?
Geez…Things are so nutty.

Of course, “democratically elected government” was widely thought to be a “fixed election” at the time the voting took place.

that even Hitler was “democratically elected” …
Balder Viking says
I believe the coup attempt was staged by Erdogan himself. Since he lost power in the election and couldn’t ram through laws that made him a emperor, he staged this to grab more personal power in the name of stability and now the West can’t complain.
Jack Everett says
America will support this terrorist like it always does.
Yokel says
Yes, I’d go with that. In fact I think it was his “Reichstag Fire” moment. All opposition will now be swept away.
Jeremiah says
The Muslim Brotherhood was democratically elected with only a little support from Obama. The Nigerian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood was democratically elected with moderate support from Obama while the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood was democratically elected with massive support from Obama. The other election where Obama provided massive democratic support was in Israel to democratically oppose Netanyahu.
Obama always supports democracy. That is why he allows criminals to participate in America. Even illegal aliens are given the opportunity to learn about democracy. Democrats believe in democracy so much that they even raise the dead and have people vote multiple times.
Republicans are not nearly as democratic as the Democrats. Donald Trump will return America to the days of the Constitution where one legal and breathing citizen only has one vote. How regressive!
duh swani says
‘Democratically elected’…Egypt is not America…Saddam was ‘democratically elected’ with 100% voting for him…Ergogan also eliminated the competition…

People on twitter were posting pictures of soldiers being thrown off overpasses and of soldiers who looked like they had been beaten to death. Reports said they were being tortured and executed by pro-Erdogan mobs.
Twitter has since taken them down.
All that injustice is on Obama.
Jack Everett says
All that injustice is on all Americans and Erdogan for allowing their country to get away with it.
Jack Everett says
Looks like the U.S. has become just another terrorist state.
Obama wants to back more terrorists by backing Erdogan who has been supporting ISIS all along and guying their black market oil..
America supports all the terrorists because our politicians are heavily invested in the military industrial complex and they have to keep the WMD moving.
We support:
Turkey
Israel
Saudi Arabia
Taliban
Pakistan
and all other terrorist groups that will let us make them our puppet to get arms.
We have started up the cold war with Russia for no reason other than to have an excuse to raise the budget for the military industrial complex.
We agitate China for no good reason and keep trying to start a war with them
Angemon says
Israel, a terrorist group? Surely you jest.
Jack Diamond says
Sounds like the world would be better off without America? Hmmm? And without Israel, according to you? Are Muslims (puppets) responsible for anything? Who was responsible for 9/11?
