Iran vessels “harass,” make “high speed intercept” of US warship near Strait of Hormuz

Aug 25, 2016 8:08 am By Robert Spencer

The Islamic Republic of Iran has been on a war footing against the United States since 1979. The Iran nuclear deal only emboldened it. Iranian vessels regularly confront U.S. ships in the Persian Gulf, while the Obama administration tries to downplay these incidents so as to mislead Americans into thinking that Iran is achieving a rapprochement with the United States.

The details of Iran’s ongoing war activities against the United States are unknown to most Americans — find them out in The Complete Infidel’s Guide to Iran.

USS Nitze

“Iran vessels make ‘high speed intercept’ of U.S. ship: U.S. official,” by Idrees Ali, Reuters, August 24, 2016:

Four of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) vessels “harassed” a U.S. warship on Tuesday near the Strait of Hormuz, a U.S. defense official said, amid Washington’s concerns about Iran’s posture in the Gulf and in the Syrian civil war.

The official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said on Wednesday that two of the Iranian vessels came within 300 yards of the USS Nitze in an incident that was “unsafe and unprofessional.”

The vessels harassed the destroyer by “conducting a high speed intercept and closing within a short distance of Nitze, despite repeated warnings,” the official said.

IRGC, the Islamic Republic’s praetorian guard, is suspicious of U.S. military activity near Iran’s borders and appears to be sticking to a familiar posture in the Gulf that predates last year’s nuclear accord between Iran and six world powers, including the United States.

The United States and other countries are concerned about Iran’s support for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, its ballistic missile program, and its backing for Shiite militias that have abused civilians in Iraq.

The U.S. defense official said that in Tuesday’s incident the USS Nitze tried to communicate with the Iranian vessels 12 times, but received no response. It also fired 10 flares in the direction of two of the Iranian vessels.

“The Iranian high rate of closure… created a dangerous, harassing situation that could have led to further escalation, including additional defensive measures by Nitze,” the official said.

USS Nitze had to change course in order to distance itself from the Iranian vessels, the official said, adding that the incident could have led to a diplomatic protest, but the United States does not have diplomatic relations with Iran….

I served on a WWII era destroyer in the 1960’s. One night in the sea of Japan, a surface contact heading directly for us at a high rate of speed was observed on radar and a two-shot salvo from a 5″/38 mount was fired. After a few seconds, the radar blip disappeared. By its speed and heading, the vessel was presumed to be a North Korean torpedo boat. No further attempts were made to attack us. Problem solved. By the way, the Commander in Chief was named Nixon.

      Rob,

The comments below are from Ray Starmann at U.S. Defense Watch:

“The engine on one of the two Navy patrol craft was broken before it ever left port. The crews had failed their most recent navigation exams. The radios weren’t working. None of the 10 sailors on either vessel had ever participated in a mission this long.”

“They were sent anyway. And when the chips were down the crews displayed a lack of “war-fighting toughness,” according to an in-depth Navy investigation of the incident released Thursday.”

As bad as the above sounds, the rest of the story is shocking, i.e. failure to man the guns, failure to obey a direct order to start the engine and leave the area, etc.

It seems to me that the generations after WWII became wimps. Why? I think it has something to do with the U.S. education system. It must have changed to the worse so much so that the Democrats even twice voted for Obama whom they really did not know. And they still don’t know Islam. Any principal or teacher that refuses to have the children give their allegiance to our flag ought to be very strictly warned if not fired.

Why doesn’t the US Navy blow one of these boats up when they are within the security perimeter of the Navy ships? This has to be due orders from above! One Irani boat goes down and the rest will retreat. These cowards will only push you as much as you can take – one they shown the fist they will scurry back to their hell hole!!

They are testing their radar capabilities and puffing their chests out to make a show of how powerful they think they are. In addition they want to confirm that we won’t really attack due to our Muslim president (who should be tried and hung). This is what Islamic nations do to each other now that the ‘infidels’ have been deposed or disposed.

Not defending current policy here, but wouldn’t be better to let them think they are powerful rather than beat them back down, they wouldn’t try so hard to be powerful and it would come as a compleate surprise to them just how skilled the West really is.

The oppositions imagination is and will always be the most powerful tool in any argument …..

It probably won’t until Israel leads the way. At some point the Israelis will have no choice but to preserve themselves by destroying Iran’s nuclear capabilities.

The US is more interested in making money and preserving the voter’s 401(k) fake wealth. The “investment” managers stuff payroll money into stocks every week with little more ability than the average index investor. It is now a deck of cards far exceeding the dubious 10yr value of the companies and the big investment banks have never cleared their books of questionable derivatives after the last irresponsible debacle over mortgages.

The government is exceedingly frightened that any eroding of investor’s confidence, like a war with Iran, will bring down the house of cards, lose the citizen’s support, and stop the hedonistic DC party. They are quite willing to play the part of the wealthy coward – including the Islamization of the US.

They additionally osculate upon Saudi derriers to keep the party going. Even the Saudis would like to see Iran’s ambitions stopped, but whatever sustains Wall Street rules US policy.

I see in the news today the Iranians have tried again to harass a US Navy ship while in international waters. This time a larger Iranian vessel was on a collision course with the US ship, but this time a more aggressive response from the Navy. A burst of 50 calibre caused the Iranians to turn away. This is the only way to handle them. They are probing for weakness. Show them steel and they will back down.

    To A Harris USA,
Build your northern wall. That way you can keep your own libtarded celebrities like that fat pig Rosie odonnel and her other fat pig buddies from “the view” on your side. As you can see we have our own problems without having to deal with “your” super special snowflakes. Now if we could build a wall around political correctness and set common sense free we would all be better off. You may not realize this but your best and foremost allie IS CANADA! Each side has it’s nuts, but by population alone you have ten times the number we have.
