“A senior ATPU officer who declined to be named said the two students are part of wide networks of medical students targeted by ISIS after being promised better jobs.” Yes, that’s why people join ISIS, all right: to get better jobs.
This willful ignorance is pandemic, and just as dangerous and counter-productive in Kenya as it is in the United States.
“Anti-terror police arrest two medical interns trying to join ISIS,” by Calvin Onsarigo, The Star, August 29, 2016 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):
Police arrested two medical interns suspected to part of latest batch of university students radicalised and lured to join the ISIS terror group in Libya.
Mohamed Shukri and Abdulrazak Abdinuur were arrested on Sunday* in a joint operation by Mombasa and Nairobi anti-terror police in Malindi.
The two are attached to Malindi subcounty hospital.
Initial investigations have revealed that Shukri is part of the earlier ISIS recruitment network that was discovered by police and who had been working on plans of using Anthrax to launch terrorist attacks.
Shukri and Abdinuur have been evading police and were allegedly intending to relocate to Puntland in Somalia to join an ISIS cell in Somalia that is under Sheikh Muumin.
The two were planning to acquire fake travel documents to facilitate their escape to Somalia.
Intelligence reports indicate that they are among Biochemistry students allegedly lured to join the terror organisation while undergoing training in Russia.
The suspects are from Mandera and had benefited from a government scholarship program to study medicine in Saratov University in Russia.
They were living together at the time of their arrest
Police intercepted communication indicating that they were travelling to join the Islamic State.
They are linked to another medical intern, Mohammed Abdi Ali, who was arrested in May in connection with planning a biological attack….
A senior ATPU officer who declined to be named said the two students are part of wide networks of medical students targeted by ISIS after being promised better jobs….

I am sure they were very poor and uneducated medical students, all caused by climate change of course, if they had jihad’d someone, we can safely blame mental illness.

Sure, it’s the mental illness again. So much of it about. I’m beginning to feel like I might be getting lied to by the people that I pay to tell me the truth. That’s a shame.

But the lack of opportunities! And in Russia out of all places – as if ISIS could possibly establish itself under Putin…

Clearly, they didn’t have a job and global warming was also a factor, as Secy. of State Kerry didn’t provide them with an air conditioner.

Can you imagine Obama supported a presidential candidate who had a secret agreement with Muslims to dominate every sphere of our life? http://www.wnd.com/2008/10/78324/ .

Kenya should have let them pzz off to Somalia, then annulled their Kenyan citizenship papers and declared them exile and outlaw, with a price put on their heads; to be shot on sight, if they should ever be apprehended on Kenyan soil again.

I think the evidence is overwhelming: most muslims commit civilizational jihad or terrorism out of religious fervency or cultural bias for islam, not financial gain or social status.
But there may be a tiny minority that do have selfish motives, too. I have no problem admitting that, it in no way excuses islam’s primary goal of totalitarian control via intimidation and murder. It’s not unusual for people to join a cause or movement for selfish reasons. Admitting this only broadens the spectrum of islam’s evil and seductive influence to admit that some conduct islamic jihad for more selfish reasons. This only adds to islam’s stink and in no way makes the bigger stink any less stinky. I only offer this because I think there’s an ill-guided tendency to deny any tangential motives because we know the left is always sniffing for excuses. It’s not islamic theology and traditions that are causing all this terrorism and cultural jihad, it’s jobs and tough breaks. At least that’s what they tell us. So we over react to their denials by rejecting outright the possibility that it could even happen.
Islamic jihad in all its forms is basically a criminal enterprise against non-muslims, it becomes no less evil if some muslims are involved for reasons more personal than islamic. It’s not unheard of that people join a corrupt organization or religion for personal gain. But this in no way renders islam’s main agenda of conquer and kill for allah any less real. The left has exploited these rare cases as typical causes of terrorism. But if the best defense of islam’s monumental paradigm of bigotry and hate is that some muslims are selfishly killing and destroying for islam then they might as well save their breath.
Islamic jihad is wrong no matter what the motives! No excuses!
