The KCWY report is biased in the predictable manner, with the protesters depicted as being hateful and their concerns dismissed as prejudice. One comic moment in the video here comes when the rally organizer asks a Muslim who has come up on the stage: “Did the Prophet marry a six-year-old girl?” The Muslim answers, “No, I don’t know where you hear this stuff,” and the report cuts away.
Where do “Islamophobes” hear this stuff? How about from Bukhari, the hadith collection that Muslims consider to be the most reliable?
“The Prophet wrote the (marriage contract) with Aisha while she was six years old and consummated his marriage with her while she was nine years old and she remained with him for nine years (i.e. till his death)” (Bukhari 7.62.88).
Another hadith from Bukhari has Aisha herself recount the scene:
The Prophet engaged me when I was a girl of six (years). We went to Medina and stayed at the home of Bani-al-Harith bin Khazraj. Then I got ill and my hair fell down. Later on my hair grew (again) and my mother, Um Ruman, came to me while I was playing in a swing with some of my girl friends. She called me, and I went to her, not knowing what she wanted to do to me. She caught me by the hand and made me stand at the door of the house. I was breathless then, and when my breathing became all right, she took some water and rubbed my face and head with it. Then she took me into the house. There in the house I saw some Ansari women who said, “Best wishes and Allah”s Blessing and a good luck.” Then she entrusted me to them and they prepared me (for the marriage). Unexpectedly Allah’s Apostle came to me in the forenoon and my mother handed me over to him, and at that time I was a girl of nine years of age. (Bukhari 5.58.234).
Muhammad was at this time fifty-four years old.
The video doesn’t mention the Qur’an-burning, but the tag under it does at the KCWY site: “Members of ‘Wyoming against Islam’ burned a Quran during the rally, but news 13 will not show that out of respect for Muslims.” I’m not in favor of burning books, but that is beside the point here. Would KCWY be similarly fastidious about showing something Jews or Christians found offensive? I doubt it, as Jews and Christians generally don’t try to kill people who offend them.
KCWY is manifesting less “respect” than “fear”: their respect derives from the site of the massacred Muhammad cartoonists in Paris in January 2015, or any number of similar scenes. They’re bowing to the assassin’s veto. And ultimately, that will only encourage more murderous jihadi rage.
“Quran burned at Anti-Islam rally in Gillette,” by Ray Bogan, KCWY13, August 29, 2016:
Members of the group “Wyoming against Islam, Americans for a secure Wyoming” held a “Ban Islam” rally in Gillette, Saturday afternoon. About 15 people rallied in a park, in front of about 30 protesters who stood in support of Islam. Members of “Wyoming against Islam” burned a Quran during the rally, but news 13 will not show that out of respect for Muslims. News 13’s Ray Bogan was at the rally.
