Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

“The Innocence of Muslims” filmmaker: “I don’t think there is such a thing as freedom of speech”

Sep 13, 2016 8:37 am By Christine Douglass-Williams

“I don’t believe in democracy anymore,” Nakoula told FoxNews.com. “I don’t think there is such a thing as freedom of speech.”

The forlorn cry of a man beaten into submission by the fallout he faced because he dared to challenge Islam, thinking he was safe under democratic freedoms. What Nakoula Basseley Nakoula — the Coptic Christian whose video “The Innocence of Muslims” was initially blamed by the Obama administration for the Sept. 11, 2012 terror attack at U.S. diplomatic compounds in Libya – really means is that he does not believe in the so-called keepers of our democracy, in which the freedom of speech is supposed to be a core principle. What this man suffered as a result of being jailed and now living in poverty was a selling out of our principles of democracy by Obama and Hillary Clinton.

The bitter taste of what Nakoula Basseley Nakoula is left with is the mere tip of sharia subjugation.

“Blamed for Benghazi: Filmmaker jailed after attack now lives in poverty, fear”, by Hollie McKay, Fox News, September 12, 2016:

Four Americans died in the 2012 terror attack in Benghazi, and those who survived saw their stories of heroism told in a Hollywood movie, but the filmmaker whose work was wrongly blamed for touching off the event lives in obscurity, poverty and fear, FoxNews.com has learned.

Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, the Coptic Christian whose short video “The Innocence of Muslims” was initially faulted for sparking the Sept. 11, 2012 terror attack at U.S. diplomatic compounds in Libya, is now living in a homeless shelter run by First Southern Baptist Church in Buena Park, Calif. He has served time in prison, been shamed publicly by the White House and threatened with death.

“I don’t believe in democracy anymore,” Nakoula told FoxNews.com. “I don’t think there is such a thing as freedom of speech.”

In the aftermath of the Benghazi attack, President Obama and then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton seized on the anti-Islamist film as the cause of a spontaneous protest that turned violent. U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens, Foreign Service Information Management Officer Sean Smith and CIA contractors Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty were killed when armed terrorists laid siege to the compound and set it ablaze.

The story was told in the Michael Bay-directed film “13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi,” which starred John Krasinski.

Nakoula’s video trailer, posted online and credited to “Sam Bacile,” mocked the Islamic prophet Mohammad – depicting him as everything from a bozo and womanizer to predator and homosexual. Although Obama and Clinton were later forced to acknowledge that the attack was an organized assault by Al Qaeda-linked terrorists, Nakoula was soon charged with eight counts of probation violation, jailed without bail and deemed a “danger to the community.”

Nakoula had previously been convicted of charges relating to bank and credit fraud, and federal prosecutors found his use of the Internet to post the video violated his terms of probation.

Nakoula, who is in his late fifties and has been in the U.S since 1984, declined to elaborate on his post-jail experiences, but said he plans to write a book about his ordeal.

For now, he deferred queries to the Rev. Wiley S. Drake, pastor of the First Southern Baptist Church. In August 2013, Nakoula was relocated from prison to a halfway house – a kind of house arrest although it’s a government facility – to serve out the remainder of his time, and a year later was released into Drake’s custody. For the past three years, Nakoula has been living at the homeless shelter on church grounds.

Drake, an Arkansas native who ran as an independent for the Presidential nomination in 2008 and again for 2016, said he sought out the controversial filmmaker in 2013 because he had grave concerns for the future of democracy in the United States.

“I wanted to find out what was really going on,” Drake told FoxNews.com. “They accused Nakoula of causing Benghazi, but it could not have been further from the truth.”

According to Drake, the federal government was concerned about the potential threats at the halfway house due to Nakoula’s presence, and agreed to release him to the church. Amid the hoopla sparked by his film and the finger-pointing, Nakoula indeed became a hot target for Islamic fatwas. In 2012, an Egyptian court sentenced him – in absentia – to death for defaming the religion and a Pakistani minister issued a $100,000 reward to have him killed.

Drake said that they have received a few anonymous phone threats – the last being about a year ago – but he refuses to back down.

“I have purposely not hidden that Nakoula is here,” he continued. “I’m not afraid of anything.”

Steven Davis, director of security management at the church, stressed that they take Nakoula’s precarious position as a “high value target” very seriously and said the church has well-trained personnel should any external threats arise.

“I talk to him on a regular basis, check he isn’t being followed,” Davis said. “It is hard to know how far the enemy – radical Islam – will push things.”

Nakoula remains under the supervision of the federal government, so he will likely be at the Church for at least another year. The average stay at the shelter is a few months, enough time for most to “get back on their feet,” said Drake.

Kenneth Timmerman, author of “Deception: The Making of the YouTube Video Hillary and Obama Blamed For Benghazi,” asserts that Nakoula was ultimately “the first victim of Islamic Sharia blasphemy laws in the United States.”

“He was collateral damage, as were the actors and actresses who became subject to death threats and fatwas,” Timmerman said. “Nakoula takes the fatwas seriously because he understands they are still active and cannot be rescinded.”

Drake also noted that from time to time he receives phone calls from different people at the State Department checking in on how Nakoula is faring, and while Drake typically gives a vanilla answer, he is concerned for his future. Nakoula has worked various part-time jobs at a pizza parlor and more recently driving for Uber, but as soon as people make the connection between him and Benghazi, work dries up.

“So we have put him to work here,” Drake said. “And he has transportation now so he can go and visit his family nearby, but he wants to keep them safe and out of the spotlight.”

It was revealed in last year’s House Select Committee hearings on Benghazi that, despite public proclamations otherwise, Clinton was well aware that the attacks were well-crafted and not spurred by “The Innocence of Muslims.”…

Sources close to Nakoula say he was indeed “proud” of the film’s content, and has no reservations in continuing his outspoken stance against the Islamic religion when the timing is right. Drake however, noted that Nakoula has expressed some regret – not for the film’s controversial content – but for the trouble and stress it ultimately caused.

“If I could go back, I would do it again,” he told FoxNews.com three years ago from prison. “Everybody gets hurt in this culture. We need the world free of this culture. We have to fight it.”….

This poor man is right. When Hillary Clinton was greeting the caskets arriving with the dead from Benghazi, she told the families, referring to this film maker, “We will catch him and put him in jail.” She now says the families are lying, denigrating a “Gold Star” mother and that she never said that. Funny, when that Khan person who spoke at the Democratic Convention and Trump criticized him, Trump was excoriated.

Anyway, even though the US Government did “Catch him and put him in jail,” (On a trumped up minor parole violation) in violation of the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, it was wrong and Hillary Clinton needs to learn more about the Constitution–if she can remain conscious long enough.

Vote for her at your peril and the peril of the United States.

How does Clinton get away with lying about promising the family members of the Benghazi victims that we would “get” that film maker for causing the attack? This statement was widely reported at the time and no one in her camp or Hillary herself denied it. I’d like to know who contacted the LA police to arrest the hapless Nakoula. because he was soon in custody. This was one of the worst perversions of our first amendment in history and 90% of our populace and virtually all of the mainstream media could hardly have cared less. Obama was behind this of course and look at his high approval rating today. America as we know it will not survive 8 years of a Clinton presidency.

Freedom of speech. What a capital idea! It exists in concept everywhere including nations under dictatorships, under islamic nations (with and without sharia law) and the left over communist nations.

But, what happens after some one exercises his or her right to speak is important. What most nations (and their people) do not have is tolerance and respect for someone’s freedom of speech.

The maker of “The Innocence of Muslims” exercised his right (of freedom of speech) and made this movie. It is the intolerance of the others that makes him now live in fear and blame.

I believe in something deemed controversial: bigger countries such as Turkey, the US, France, the UK, tend to have limited news about other countries and tend to be almost autistic when it is about news from abroad. This is why I find this jihadwatch site so refreshing. Without freedom of speech – and that includes freedom to insult someonr, because there will always people who will feel insulted about ANYthing – democracy cannot exist. We in the Netherlands are still awaiting what will happen to the leader of the third biggest party because he is still going to trial about a remark he made about the Maroccans in this country ( and who are responsible for more than half the crime here). And there is, of course, mr. Assange, revealing all the dirty political secrets and who lives his years in an embassy, as a refugee. The list of victims that have been silenced grows every day.

          ………………………………

What, exactly, would Poland have to negotiate with? Saying they knew about the pact the Nazis had with the Soviet Union would not have saved them.

In fact, their only slim safeguard was the mutual aid pact they had with Britain–but Hitler had already decided that war with England was coming whether they came to the aid of Poland or not.

And isn’t it interesting that “Defen0derofIsliam” is always ready to tell us how reasonable the horrifying Hitler was? This is not uncommon among Mohammedans.

Unfortunately, the situation is only going to get worse, not better. We live in a world “turned upside down.”

I favor a good Western movie, the early movies had the good guys in “white” hats and the bad guys in “black” hats. It was very easy to distinguish one from the other.

Not so today, as we are now dealing with various shades of Grey as it seems a little Truth has been mixed in with a “big lie”. It’s very difficult to separate the Wheat from the Chaff.

There is no such thing as freedom of speech in Islam. Those who criticise are silenced forever.

Many of you know that Muhammad is the role model for all Muslims. What did Muhammad do in this matter? He ordered an assassination of those who criticised him.

Of course, then there is no freedom of speech in Islam.

      Sep 13, 2016 at 10:35 am

Theo Van Gogh was already that example.

All in this article is true enough, the video (which almost no one had viewed at the time of Benghazi) and the filmmaker were used as scapegoats for the attack and free speech was held to blame as the culprit here not Islamic jihad. None of which should have happened and Mr. Nakoula aka Mark Youssef aka all his other aliases, should never have been imprisoned or targeted by this Administration as their fall guy. Nor should he be in the condition he is in now.

However before he is exalted too highly it should at least be said that the man does have a shady past (including bank fraud schemes), and a murky one–as murky as his many aliases–and that he did this film (being generous about such a lame attempt at moviemaking, though accurate enough about Muhammad) under false pretenses.

Actors were cast in what they thought was an “adventure film” called “Desert Warrior” whose script made no mention of Muhammad or Islam. Lines were overdubbed and scenes added later to create a satire on the life of Muhammad. One of the actresses, who sued the filmmaker for fraud and misrepresentation, and for endangering her life (she received death threats, too, not just our hero filmmaker), had to change her name. That’s what I mean by shady.

Maybe he did all or most of those things because that’s the only way in our world (including the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave) you can make an anti-Mohammed film at all.

Also, his checkered past is totally irrelevant to the wrongs done him by Obama and Hillary.

I believe I made it clear his checkered past is a separate issue than the wrongs done to him. I believe I made it clear that nothing done to him was anything but an injustice, an insult to the American people, an attack on freedom of speech.

That doesn’t mean I admire him.

He did prison time for making methamphetamine. He did prison time for a bank fraud scheme, conspiring with a Muslim, by the way, Eiad Salamay, an Arab con-man from the Palestinian Territory with known terrorist connections. That’s what I mean by him being murky. They apparently embezzled millions. He made the film soon after his release from prison. You can cut him slack and say its the only way to make an anti-Mohammad film (be a crook; trick your cast) but I don’t. The film is one thing, the filmmaker is quite another.

A data recovery job on a 3GB is £525, including replacement disk to send your recovered data back to you… Takes a while to get it back though, and then you file through numbered directory upon numbered directory. They did a good job though, the crash was physical.

About computers, the machine was a Dell, on the side the sticker said “Made in USA”. I had to build a new machine from scratch, my own computers lasted and still do – I had good reviews for my machines. So, after years I Build another computer. Checking what could be salvaged, I found the following: Mobo, made in China; Graphics card, made in China; Memory, made in China; HD, made in China; SSD, made in China; PSU, made in China; CPU, NO! Not made in China. But in Costa Rica… I think the “Made in USA” was probably referring to the sticker itself. Incidently, The CPU, SSD & graphics card survived…

Get an external back up drive that has its own powers supply, it was the PSU which packed in and took practically everything with it. And when that happens whilst you are in a hectic phase of a business foundation/build up – PROBLEMS! And you will do day & night shifts in a row. Searching for data that’s still ‘there’, and reconstructing what’s lost. Or writing and re-establishing completely anew.

You have been warned… Back up frequently !!!!!

Now you know, I haven’t been on a truly deserved holiday – well, I think i deserve on.

      See you guys

Hillary could have admitted her gross neglect.
She found an excuse. “The Film”
Her memoire ‘Hard Choices’ is not a memoire.
    It is only an excuse.

Benghazi victims faced the real enemy.
Hillary claimed she endured enemy fire.

Hillary is a greedy liar. The more she gets the more she expects.
Whenever the MSM lets Hillary get away with a lie she, embellishes it to as much as they will allow. Once in a while her lies come home to roost.

Yes, In fact this may have been the first political prisoner for telling the truth. I am sure in the history of USA men of power (politicians) suppressed freedom of speech somehow. This incident was so obvious to protect disgusting Obama and Islam which should not have been allowed in this free country of ours. Shame, Shame and Shame again to liberals and liberal media for not disclosing for what it is: Protecting Evil and sacrificing an truth teller. The act was evil. PERIOD.

Rev. Wiley does not appear to be very wily. To wit:

He should have consulted yesterday’s reading of Proverbs for verses 1, 15, 21, and 23.

So sad, what our government did to this hero. Despite his limited/ low-budget, he provided us with great tool to expose Islam, and help Muslims think about the prophet they idolize blindly. This piece of work is nothing short of a counter-terrorism tool.

I saw his film several times. It is 99% factual. The only glitch was the number of Mohamed’s wifes. He understated that number slightly . Everything else was based on authentic Islamic sources; Quran, Sira and Hadith. Even the introduction he made about the current situation in Egypt, is a daily occurrence rather than fiction.

I challenge anyone, to identify one sentence or a single act from this movie that is not factual or even exaggerated.

Isn’t that part of the problem we are facing, those in positions of authority have placed themselves above the law, not bound by it.

If you want to say that people who produce Meth, steal identities, kite checks, take close to a million dollars from people illegally, violate parole (which was what he was arrested for, not for the movie) and say that this guy’s rights were violated when they were not and then hold him up as some example for people to pity you are without a doubt hiding your head in the sand. It was his own stupidity that landed him back in jail, not free speech violations.

          Karl,

With all due respect, would this person have been arrested if Benghazi had not happened?

The issue isn’t his other crimes, the issue is why was he singled out and blamed for the attack in Benghazi by the Obama Administration?

Do you see the irony here, we have a President and a Secretary of State who are also criminals, covering their butts so Obama can be re-elected and continue the destruction of America.

There is no honor among thieves.

With respect, I disagree. Nakoula *does* have a checkered past, and I do not condone *any* of that.

          Thank you for your comment.

I don’t see where I indicated “approval” or a “disregard” for his apparent criminal activities, however, you have encouraged me to try to be more precise with my thoughts in the future.

My primary point was and is, “The end does not justify the means.” Whether we like it or not there is “a rule of law” that should be respected and followed, especially by those in positions of authority, they should be held to a higher standard and be held responsible for their actions.

Instead, we have people in positions of authority, starting with POTUS that encourage disregard for the “rule of law” and shake their fist at anyone who would oppose their agenda.

“Innocence of Muslims” is not an “anti-Islamist film” which “mocked the Islamic prophet Mohammad”.

The film, albeit low-budget, faithfully depicts incidents recorded in the Islamic source texts. Nothing has been invented, nothing misrepresented.

Sharia law has a completely different definition of slander – telling something about a person that he would rather not be told. That is why muslim spokesmen claim the film is slanderous.

Dear Graven, I hope you are well. You said; “but the *violation* of democracy by the very people who are charged with upholding it.”

Indeed, and the horible truth is that this process is occuring in *all* democratic or formerly democratic countries.

Incidently, a bit of very well meant, kindest advice: I am sure you hear frequently to back up your data. DO IT!

        ……………………..

DFD, this is advice I should have taken a couple of weeks ago.

I had had free email through a certain site for many years, and they have decided to no longer support email for their members, and are ceasing the service at the end of the month. This should not have been much of a problem.

I set up a new email through another venue, and was all set to bring over my old messages when my email stopped working altogether, almost a month before it was scheduled to end. I have contacted them several times about the problem, but have heard nothing. I doubt tech support for a service they are phasing out is high on their list.

I had not backed up my email information, including the contact information for several dear friends and colleagues here at Jihad Watch.

This is not just concerning; it is deeply embarrassing. I should have backed up all of this information long since.

And, of course, there was nothing nefarious about this loss. But sites like Jihad Watch are under cyber attack quite frequently.

Well, I was finally able to get back in my email!

As B. Franklin made a point of…we have a Republic, if we can keep it.’ A free Republic requires good education and diligence of the populace. We have always had a very ‘split’ country, sometimes more violent than others of course. Freedom of speech, and association, is our cornerstone to keep debates and dialogue going, and to keep trying to improve our country.

That aggressive White House sponsored prosecution was perhaps the most ominous incident in our entire so called war on terror, and passed by hardly noticed,if noticed at all by the US media, and the US general public as well. It serves to illustrate just how unprepared, naive, and vulnerable we are in dealing with the most insidious enemy this country has ever faced. Ask the average man on the street how they feel about the President and the Secretary of State effectively enforcing sharia laws against blasphemy and you will be met with blank stares. Sharia? What’s sharia?

President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton both took identical oaths to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. They then effectively surrendered part of that Constitution they swore to protect and defend to a foreign theology based law antithetical in every way possible to the US Constitution.

Who can blame him? Leftists like Hillary ‘fight’ for their favored classes, and they really don’t care who they destroy in the process. She simply saw a cheap opportunity to cash in among the clueless as a social justice warrior. She cannot be bothered to worry about 1 guy who had to be sacrificed.
