Some people’s balloon never lands, and Catherine M. Wallace is one of them.
“If [anything Islamic] wanted to attack an American city, they had to hijack an airliner. If they want to blow up a concert, they need to put bombs on their own children and send young men in to kill themselves…that kind of radicalism [Christian fundamentalism] in control of nuclear codes was a much, much greater threat.”
Wallace apparently believes that George W. Bush, because he called the war on terror a “Crusade” once, doubtless without being aware of the historical implications of the term, and a few times spoke about it in terms of a divine calling, was equivalent to a worldwide army of Islamic jihadists who justify their actions and make recruits among peaceful Muslims by pointing to Islamic texts and teachings. This is as absurd as it is myopic. There have been nearly 30,000 jihad attacks worldwide since 9/11, all committed in the name of Islam and in accord with its teachings. Until we see people blowing themselves and others up while screaming “Jesus is Lord,” there is no actual equivalence to that on the Christian side.
“At Co-op, Scholar Says Christian Fundamentalism More Dangerous than Islamic Terrorism,” by Max Fennell-Chametzky, Chicago Maroon (Maroon indeed), October 20, 2016:
On Oct. 18 Author Catherine M. Wallace discusses her series ”Confronting Fundamentalism”, in which she argues that Christianity has been hijacked by fundamentalists and presents an alternative.
A leading humanist scholar stressed symbolic Bible reading and warned of the radical right at a talk on Tuesday at the Seminary Co-Op.
For Catherine M. Wallace, faculty member at Northwestern’s Feinberg School of Medicine and author of the recently concluded book series Christian Humanism and the Moral Imagination, the Christian fundamentalist movement in the United States is more dangerous than Islamic terrorism. Wallace, a Christian herself, believes fundamentalist access to United States armaments is the number one threat to state security.
“If [anything Islamic] wanted to attack an American city, they had to hijack an airliner. If they want to blow up a concert, they need to put bombs on their own children and send young men in to kill themselves…that kind of radicalism [Christian fundamentalism] in control of nuclear codes was a much, much greater threat,” Wallace said….

This “professor” and the people who think like her are the real enemy. They far more dangerous than islamic jihadist terrorists.

Hi CB. You’ve stated many, many times that the West hates Christianity and Christians – if I were to believe 1/1oth of what you say, I’d expect to see Christians in Western countries dragged from their homes and shot in the street, Russian-revolution style. How, then, do you explain that the people controlling nuclear launch codes in America are Christians?

cb IS correct when he speaks about the US government and universities

(..if I were to believe 1/1oth of what you say, I’d expect to see Christians in Western countries dragged from their homes and shot in the street..)
It is already happening because that is what Western-backed jihadists are doing in ME, like Libya, Syria, Metohija and other places. And to some extent, it is happening to the few Christian refugees that are allowed to immigrate to the West and who are in refugee shelters across the EU countries as well as native-born Westerners. For example, the muslim jihadist who shot down and killed 49 Americans in a night club in Orlando recently or the muslim jihadist guy who drove a huge truck into French civilians celebrating the French National Day in July and murdered 84 civilians were all thinking they were murdering Christian infidels and this will only increase because muslim jihadist supremacists are getting all the support they need from authoritative Western elites like the professor above and also from Western governments, media, societies, clergy, Popes etc, etc. Whether it is done by the muslim jihadists in the West or people who hate Christians and love jihadists like the professor above the persecution of Christians in the West and elsewhere in the world will intensify in the next decade or two and many millions will lose their lives for Christ anf for the Cross! The good news is that this does not have to happen because Christians can organize themselves and fight back hard and the first step for that fight back is to understand and KNOW Thy Enemy which is not just islamic genocidal fascist jihadists but also Western elites and governments who are aiding and abetting them, like this professor in the story above and millions of Western establishment elites who think like her.

Nope. It isn’t. Christians in Western countries are not being dragged from their homes and shot in the street, Russian-revolution style. That’s a matter of fact. That you’re lying about something so easily disproved does not bode well for you.
BTW, you have not answered my question: if, like you contend, “the West hates Christianity and Christians” (and need I remind you that most Westerners are Christians?) how do you explain that the people controlling nuclear launch codes in America are Christians?
P.S.: line breaks are your friend.

What is your definition of Christian; it sounds like “anyone who claims to be one”.
If you were to study the New Testament (with an open mind) you would see the vast majority of Westerners are anything but.

Can I answer that? For one thing, 85% of US Citizens are Christian in their beliefs so there is a good possibility our nuclear weapons guards, congressmen, senators and most presidents until now, are Christian- not Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist or atheist. That does not mean we always walk the walk but make an effort, unlike non-Christians.

Isn’t that essentially what islam did – barged in saying that Christianity was compromised and that they had the solution to “fix” it, with that solution being that whatever they were preaching was, in fact, the “real” Christianity?
Did she also said she had some swampland and bridges to sell?
And there it is, the usual leftist nonsense about the US military being the source of all evil. Maybe she can get a job as a regular on RT?
Tell that to the people in, for example, Orlando – they weren’t killed by an airliner…
Which they do. Often. Compare ISIS attacks in Turkey with, for example, attacks by the Kurdish PKK. As a rue of thumb, ISIS sends suicide bombers to civilian areas while the PKK sends car bombs to police stations. Could ISIS use car bombs or could the PKK use suicide bombers? Certainly. Why don’t they do that? Ideology. ISIS, in accordance with standard islamic orthodoxy, teaches that a) civilian targets are OK because they’re unbelievers and/or supporting a war against ISIS, and b) dying in jihad grants entry into Paradise. So no, they don’t “need” to put bombs on their children and young men, they do so because they believe it’s a win-win situation.
Except there’s no such thing as “that kind of radicalism” (i.e., anything comparable to ISIS) in mainstream Western Christianity, let alone in control of nuclear codes. And if you’re going to argue otherwise, I’d love to hear your explanation about why this alleged “radicalism” that is supposedly in control of American nuclear codes has yet to produce any demonstrable results. In fact, ss far as I know it, the closest there was to the start of a nuclear exchange came not from the nuke-controlling “radical Christians” in America, but from the godless Soviet side in the early eighties, when Soviet sensors confused clouds (!) with the launching of nuclear missiles, and only the common sense of the officer in charge prevented an all-out nuclear war – IIRC, he reasoned that if the Americans were to attack war they would launch hundreds of missiles instead of the half-dozen or so reported by the sensors, and so he disobeyed orders and reported a computer glitch instead of an attack.
Kay says
Wallace’s comparisons of “fundamentalisms” is just one iota more sophisticated than the oft repeated equivalency of all religions. It will be bought by her vulnerable students and by others who are averse to confrontation.
One striking error in her argument is the implication that terrorists have the same feelings about sending their children to be “martyrs” (while aiming to kill many others) as would pacifist Christians.
The enemy, however, has reason to keep people from Jesus’ standard.
Scott Rose says
Did Bush use the nuclear codes? No.
Are Obama, Clinton or Trump “Evangelicals”?
No.
This woman lacks common sense in evaluating dangers.

Christian fundamentalist movement in the United States is more dangerous than Islamic terrorism is a ploy by Author Catherine M. Wallace to promote herself. Why not? By making such a statement like this, she gets media coverage and is able to attract people to her discussion series. This is right out of radical left hand book of people like Saul Alinsky and others.
Paul Clark says
Another example of being educated stupid. I am surprised that she is not on Bama’s team. She knows how to change what is right to a wrong. Plus, an excellent liar too. I also doubt very seriously if she is a Christian. If so, she is a CINO (Christian In Name Only) “Fundamentals in charge of nuclear codes” is a fear of hers? This woman doesn’t even begin to understand the precepts and concepts of Christianity. She is a CINO tool for the fools.

WI am a radical Christian and will do what we were instructed to do by Jesus Christ.
Matthew 5:38-48 “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if anyone would sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who begs from you, and do not refuse the one who would borrow from you. “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
That’s how we roll.
