Pakistan: Muslims threaten riots if Christian woman accused of “blasphemy” is released

Oct 20, 2016 2:02 pm By Christine Douglass-Williams

Note that the article by the Express Tribune below omits revealing who the “religious groups” are that are protesting the release of Asia Bibi (whose real name is Noreen). They are anti-Christian, violent-minded Muslim groups who support Pakistan’s blasphemy laws and want to see this innocent Christian lady murdered in cold blood for a bogus blasphemy charge that she was given on the word of a group of Muslim women with whom she was having a dispute. Christianity Today gave an account of the dispute:

Seven years ago, Bibi was picking fruit on a summer morning when she paused for a drink of water at a nearby well. The women she was working with objected, accusing her of contaminating the water because she was a Christian.

During the argument, Bibi asked the women, “I believe in my religion and in Jesus Christ, who died on the cross for the sins of mankind. What did your Prophet Muhammad ever do to save mankind?”

The question made the women furious, and they gathered a local mob. Bibi was accused of blasphemy, beaten, and thrown in prison. [Read Bibi’s own account of the incident.]

The Pakistan Sunni Tehreek (PST), a religio-militant Islamic group, has also vowed violent protests across the country if Asia Bibi is released, while the “religious” folks who took to the streets to block the release of Bibi are backed by the Shuhada Foundation, which also issued a statement that its supporters would “take to the streets and keep the government from functioning if Noreen were released.”

Meanwhile, Christian organizations have set up a campaign to save Asia Bibi and other Christians from Pakistan’s barbarous blasphemy laws, under which Christians are frequently falsely charged with blaspheming Islam and/or Muhammad. Christian families have also had to flee their villages in fear for their lives when a family member has been maliciously accused of blasphemy.

Release International is calling for people to sign its petition to Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to abolish those laws, while more than 150,000 Christians have also signed a separate Voice of the Martyrs Call For Mercy petition pleading for Bibi’s life.

“Religious activists warn against release of Aasia Bibi”, The Express Tribune, October 20, 2016:

LAHORE: Religious activists staged a protest on the Mall Road on Wednesday against the possible release of jailed blasphemy convict Aasia Bibi.

Speakers at the protest categorically demanded the Supreme Court to immediately reject her appeal and order her execution, warning of unrest in the country if the apex court did not do so.

The protesters started their march at Data Darbar and then staged a sit-in at Chairing Cross, where they offered Asr and Maghrib prayers. Protesters at the demonstration shouted slogans against the convict, the Supreme Court and the federal government, and in favour of Mumtaz Hussain Qadri, who was hanged for the murder of former Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer.

Religious groups have organised regular protests…..

Aasia Bibi is one of my heroines. If it takes the Prime Minister of Pakistan to personally usher her out of the building surrounded by bodyguards and into a Hummer on its way to the airport so she can leave Pskustan, then he should do that. Of course I doubt that will ever happen because Pakistan is a majority Muslim country, over 95% Islamist, I think. Pray for Aasia Bibi.

Prayers for Noreen! Seven years in Jail for a drink of water and professing her faith!? Where is the Obama administration on this, the REAL atrocities in the ME? Where is Hillary Clinton’s support for women when surely she has to know about this? Both of these people could order a contingency to enter Pakistan and get this woman out and bring her and her family here to America. People who truly need rescuing, not Muslims fleeing to emigrate in the way of Allah.

We cannot assume that every word uttered by a Muslim be they a man or a woman is necessarily the truth, and that someone who is not a Muslim is telling a lie because that person is not a Muslim!. The sword of Damocles has a double edged blade that cuts both ways!

Evil indoctrinated muslims showing the evil in there deed and their heart. The true God gives every human being the conscience and reasoning capability for knowing moral right and wrong, so there will be no excuse. Those who heed their God given conscience will leave or have already left this evil indoctrination of islam. God said, “Vengeance is mine” and He will repay.

The Islamic concept of “blasphemy” is a major clue to the despotic nature of their ideology. In a Democracy no person or political view should ever be above examination, criticism or mockery. Particularly when those who are “offended” think the appropriate remedy is the speaker’s death. And keep in mind that the truth or factual nature of the “offence” makes no difference to them.

The only thing close to blasphemy in the described incident is the Muslim’s refusal to allow a Christian to drink from the well and their bizarre insistence that doing so would somehow “contaminate” the water.

We must never allow the ideas of blasphemy and Sharia to infect our culture.

Canada, pre-Trudeau, has intervened, they obtained the release of Rimsha Masih in 2013, a 14-year old Christian in Pakistan jailed for blasphemy (burning pages of the Qur’an). The pages were found to have been planted on her by her accuser, a Muslim cleric (big surprise) and she was acquitted, paving the way for her and her family to escape hellhole Pakistan and resettle in Canada. She was luckier than those other Christians in Pakistan who were also smeared with the blasphemy accusation…and simply killed by a mob.

Asia Bibi’s hearings, however, keep getting postponed. Deliberately. The most recent is the sixth attempt now to avoid acquitting her. At the same time 150 Muslim clerics have issued a decree demanding her immediate execution (and the killing of anyone aiding in rescuing her).

Pakistan’s Supreme Court acquitted a Christian, Ayub Masih, in 2002 following his appeal of the death sentence for blasphemy, after being in prison as long as Asia Bibi has been. He also suffered horrible treatment (including being shot) and similar threats were made to any attorney or judge who were in favor of anything but hanging him. In his case there was pressure from abroad, including the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee (and he was given asylum in the USA). Pakistan’s Supreme Court concluded the arrest, conviction, and sentencing of Masih violated due process of law, which is exactly the case with Asia Bibi and they know it.

And Open Doors USA rates Pakistan as only the SIXTH worst country in the world when it comes to Christian persecution.

Go to any Muslim country , there are 57 0f them and you will what real Muslims are like. “Religious activists”, eh? Christians? Jews? Buddhists? Sikhs? Hindus? Pastafarians? There are many religions worldwide – you’re going to have to narrow it down. I wouldn’t want to sound “islamophobic” by assuming that such a retrograde attitude can only come from muslims…

Why are Muslims so full of bulgy-eyed fear?

You know. Bibi is not innocent judging by the account given in the preamble above the article. Given what she said about Jesus and Mohammad, she is guilty of blasphemy. I think the issue is whether the blasphemy law is morally sound or not and whether it violates international law and acceptable consequences. It’s also yet another indication of the brutal, violent and abhorrent nature of Islam. But we can’t really call her “innocent”…

    • Musalmaanmasala says

      Oct 21, 2016 at 10:50 am

      Steve Brown,

It is very easy to collect a violent stone thrownin muslim mob anywhere in the world. One just has to go in any muslim pocket and say “a koran has been burnt” or “Mohammed has been blasphemed” {btw mohammed is not supposed to be god but he gets blasphemed against)

All that Bibi is alleged to have said is “What has your Mohammed done to save mankind?” this must have been said in the heat of the moment but DOES IT WARRANT 7 YEARS OF JAIL?
I have seen muslims blaspheming Christ “JESUS IS A SLAVE OF ALLAH” or “JESUS DID NOT DIE ON THE CROSS” and getting away with it in various videos.

Muslims have this tendency of not playing to a level playing field. They want ALL THE RULES TO SUIT THEM something like the child who owns the ball at play”.

Your endorsing her so called :guilt: is surprising.

No, it is not and yes it violates international law.

      Blasphemy- a crime?? You think??
Because you refuse to believe the absurdity of religion, you are a criminal?
It’s an obscene concept that MUST be disposed of because it legitimises murder.

To JIMJFOX- As per your 12:01 and 12:05 pm comments of Oct. 21, 2016, thank you. You are on point. And whoever posts at the site writing that Asia Bibi is guilty of blasphemy, has his/her head screwed on wrong. The sickening statistic in the Asia Bibi case is this:-
The online petition for her release has about 15,000 votes; petitions in the USA to ban pig-wrestling
or promote ownership of Pit Bulls attract around 100,000.
      What are America’s priorities???

    • linnte says

      Oct 21, 2016 at 6:51 pm

You’re talking from a Muslim Ideology point of view. What about her Christian point of view? What she is really guilty of is having freedom of speech in a country that doesn’t allow free speech or even free thought .

    • Jack Diamond says

      Oct 22, 2016 at 4:17 am

Well, I suppose she “polluted” their water too, thus abusing Islam and Muhammad. Which was the original accusation against her. No Muslim would call any Christian kaffir “innocent” now would they?

You might as well know, Asia Bibi and her family absolutely deny that she said anything about Islam or against Muhammad. Asia Bibi said “they filed fake charges against me. In the past I have had conflicts with them due to a sewage issue. They stole my goat.” Blasphemy charges are usually connected to personal vendettas. In the case of Ayub Masih, the accusations were made by a neighbor who subsequently appropriated Masih’s property after his arrest.

Here is what really happened, after the incident with the water the Muslims had a few days to cook up their story. “She (Asia) said ‘your Muhammad had worms in his mouth before he died!”” said one “eyewitness.” The Muslims demanded Asia convert to Islam. When she refused they threatened to kill her and her family if she didn’t convert to Islam. She still refused. It was the village cleric who brought the charges. She was arrested. Did I forget to mention a mob beat and raped her?

Another thing you should know. There was virtually no evidence against her in her trial (and the only “evidence” was verbal evidence) because in Pakistan it is blasphemous to even repeat the charges in court! That makes a conviction pretty certain (it also makes an acquittal pretty likely).

Thanks Jack Diamond for telling the true fact which led Asia bibi a blasphemous.

  16. John Hagg says

    Oct 27, 2016 at 11:20 pm

Speaking the Truth in love will not be tolerated in Islam. If you speak the truth about Islam or Muhammad, you are a blasphemous. Muhammad was a self-declared prophet which you cannot say openly in any Muslim country. Muhammad violated the law of God by marrying 14 wives. He asked his followers to marry up to 4 according to the needs. He declared war against those oppose him. So many immoral things, lies, cheating with murders etc… But no one can tell such true stories in any place in the world where muslims are majority.
