U.S. Navy destroyer again targeted by missiles from Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen

Oct 12, 2016 5:04 pm By Robert Spencer

This is one of the groups to which Barack Obama has just given a massive financial boost by transferring billions of dollars to the Islamic Republic of Iran.

“U.S. Navy destroyer again targeted by missiles from Yemen: U.S. officials,” Reuters, October 12, 2016:

A U.S. Navy destroyer was targeted on Wednesday in a failed missile attack from territory in Yemen controlled by Iran-aligned Houthi rebels, the second such incident in the past four days, U.S. officials told Reuters.

The USS Mason, which was accompanied by the USS Ponce – an amphibious transport dock – fired defensive salvos in response to the missiles, neither of which hit the ship or caused any damage as it operated north of the Bab al-Mandab Strait, the officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

They really did not mean any harm to our marines just an unintentional work place error. I am sure.

    • Westman says

      Oct 12, 2016 at 5:44 pm

There is a reason Islam can control a nation but never the world: the incompetency it creates through its control and throwing away half the minds of its citizens. Iran and Turkey consistently educate their women and that makes them currently more than equal to any other Islamic nation and it frightens the Saudis.

The fact that Iran might give the Houthis rebels some missles does not make the Houthis competent. The danger comes when they are manned by Iranian “advisors”. I wonder how long it will be before the Ayatollah oversteps?

      • August West says

        Oct 12, 2016 at 6:41 pm

Westman I suspect Sam was being sarcastic. I would guess that the missiles missed the vessel intentionally. They are trying to determine what the US response is. Sooner or later they will be aimed to high the vessel once that they determine that there will be no response at all. Depending on how we respond I would guess the Iranians might engage directly.

What Obama does will impact Iranian strategy as it pertains to timing, targeting and use of proxy forces.

August West- Yes, I think they are “probing”.

The Iranians want to sink a carrier. With the billions they got from Obama, could they not fire 200 “missiles” at a carrier ? I don’t see how carrier defenses could stop them all. Maybe with a secret weapon like a sonic pulse ???? The Iranians have recently bragged about how many they have, but their boasting is often bluster.

        • Mark Swan says

          Oct 13, 2016 at 9:00 am

Of course the Commitment of our current Administration is critical here—yet.

One Carrier group packs a major punch, any country attacking such a force
would be inviting major harm on themselves for their efforts.

When ever a tracking system turns on any of the ships in the Gulf will know, a
Carrier is more that a landing strip for aircraft, and all are escorted by Frigates,
Destroyers, Cruisers and Submarines, attacking a Carrier should be a serious
undertaking. All the counter measures would be available, and their armament
would be readied, any target would be available to serious weapons.

Iran, Russia and China enjoy a one sided game of tag, yet with the right
leadership in America this could be a game of the past.

Playing war is sheer foolishness, at best, any and all posturing must be limited
to real time intent and a willingness to back it-up with resolve. I am certain that
the men in Yemen, destroyed at that launch site would agree, if they were able.

If these Ships have been deployed with all the needed training, personnel,
equipment, supplies, and support to defend themselves, they can survive in
          that situation.

A UAE vessel (HSV-2) was struck by a houthi missile battery earlier this month. This attack was probably intended to inflict damage, but was thwarted by the DDG’s defenses.

Right–cutting the throats of children and threats to “wipe Israel off the map” is “resistance”. This is true as far as it goes–it is Muslim “resistance” to living in a civilized nation.

I am sorry to report that our U.S. military has been infiltrated and compromised by the muslim scourge for years.

I spent my whole career working defense contracts for the U.S. Navy, as a civilian.

Long before 911 I saw many memos generated within in the Navy, at the highest levels, by individuals with Arab sounding names. Fort Hood is only the tip of the ice burg.

DoD has embraced the politically correct theme that islam is one of the world’s great religions, but a few extremists are leading it astray.

God save our brave military! 🙁

Not only Muslims, what about every other “diversity” recruited under every possible affirmative action scheme, do they have ant real love of country or even “fight” in them. I have even heard of a modern US Ship as being little better than a floating Sheltered Workshop.

Then, should the commander of that ship fight back he will be answerable to everyone from Obama, the UN to the International Court of Justice. Probably get a jail sentence for protecting his ship.

No one has used nuclear weapons in the ME. Take off the tin foil hat. There are non-nuclear bombs in the same yield category – Air-fuel bombs like the MOAB.

We’re not leaving the ME so toss that notion out with the tin foil.

The ship responded with cruise missiles against the radar facilities directing the failed attack. I doubt those facilities exist anymore.

Arming the Saudis was not the best idea, yet, it does help keep a lid on Iran. Perhaps it’s a deal with the best devil we can find.

Saudi Arabia is responsible for Sunni terrorist insurgency, who are responsible for 99% of the terror attacks world wide. Us laying in bed with them makes us bizzaro hypocrites.

JihadWatch wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for the USA supporting Sunni terrorists and that Sunni overlord state Saudi Arabia and their Wahabism.

        • Marken says

          Oct 13, 2016 at 10:57 am

For the most part this is all about our support for Saudi Arabia. Apparently barring a world war which no one wants, the Sunni so called rebellion will be over in Syria and the Sunni threat to the Alawhites, Christians, Drudes, Kurds will be alleviated. The Saudis would never permit the defeated Sunnis to relocate in their territory and why should they since the relocation plan is to move Sunni Syrians to the West. Oh joy.

The Mohammadan clergy in Iran have ordered that Shiites to preform their 5 times a day recitals toward Karbala Iraq not Mecca.

Saudi bombings of Yemen appear to be unsuccessful despite our logistical and arms support and it appears someone wants us more involved, no thanks. The squeeze is on the Saudis and I find it hard to believe a few Jihad Watchers want us to intervene when Mecca may be facing the end.

The Russians appear to be doing the job, we should be allied with them not swirling up a world war because of age old Mohamadan disputes.

Oh, I’d say that hypocrites are the ones who slam American’s ties to Saudi Arabia, on the grounds of the Saudi’s support of terrorist organizations, while excusing Iran and its backers from the same scrutiny.

Our considering the Saudis our *allies* is indeed harmful.

But the idea that violent Jihad would not exist if for not for US ties to Saudi Arabia is absurd.

Violent Jihad much predates both the Saudis and the existence of the United States.

“Supplied”? As in “sold”? As in “if this one entity did not sell this material to that other entity then no one would”? And what does that have to do with Iran and Iran-supported groups?

“Who bomb the rebels with tactical nuclear weapons ????”
