Pegida Canada, a grassroots organization warning of the danger of radical Islam to Canada’s values and freedoms, posted on November 15, 2016 an open letter to Mamdouh Shoukri, the President of York University in Toronto.
York University, was hailed by the Toronto Star in 2007 as one of Canada’s most diverse campuses, appointed the first Muslim, Mamdouh Shoukri, to be “the permanent head of a Canadian university.” But back in March there was another report, not quite as glowing, about the treatment of Jews on York’s “diverse campus.” Shelley Yachaev, president of the Israeli Students Union at York, stated that during her four years there, “every little part of the university has been infiltrated with anti-Semitism,” and that “some of her own professors have endorsed the Boycott, Divest and Sanctions (BDS) movement — an international Palestinian-led movement that seeks to demonize the Jewish state.”
An anti-Israel mural hangs in the Student Centre at York University, and York grad Zina Rakhamilova, now campus co-ordinator for the pro-Israel organization, Stand With Us, called York one of the “most hostile campuses” toward Jews in North America. That’s no surprise, given the aggressiveness of the Muslim Student Association at York, which promotes the Muslim Brotherhood ideology.
Now President Shoukri has been given an open letter asking that he “stop distribution of misogynistic literature in campus” and “alerting him that ‘Islam Awareness Week at York University, launched by the Muslim Student Association, is distributing some very controversial material that is not in line with our free, democratic society.’”

A copy of the open letter was also sent to Deb Matthews. Deputy Premier Chair of Cabinet Minister of Advanced Education and Skills Development, and Mitzie Hunter, Ontario Minister of Education.
The following is Pegida Canada’s letter:
Dear Mr. Shoukri,
It has come to our attention that the Islam Awareness Week at York University , launched by the Muslim Student Association, is distributing some very controversial material that is not in line with our free, democratic society.
This material includes ‘The Quran’, a book that gave us great concern in it’s distribution at Dundas Square, Toronto, so much so that we wrote an open letter to the Mayor of Toronto asking for a ban on the distribution of this book. This book not only speaks of the oppression of women, but also of committing violence against those who oppose Islamic state. Following is an example of what can be found in ‘The Quran’:
Surah (chapter) Al-Maidah
Verse 33
Indeed, the penalty 262 for those who wage war 263 against Allah and His Messenger and strive upon earth [to cause] corruption is none but that they be killed or crucified or that their hands and feet be cut off from opposite sides or that they be exiled from the land. That is for them a disgrace in this world; and for them in the Hereafter is a great punishment,
Footnote 262
Legal retribution.
Footnote 263
i.e., commit acts of violence and terrorism against individuals or treason and aggression against the Islamic state.
Verse 60
Say, “Shall I inform you of [what is] worse than that 271 as penalty from Allah? [It is that of] those whom Allah has cursed and with whom He became angry and made of them apes and pigs and slaves of Taghut. 272 Those are worse in position and further astray from the sound way.”
Footnote 271
Referring to the punishment the People of the Scripture (in their censure of the Muslims) claimed was deserved by them.

‘The Quran’ is just one piece of literature that is being given out by students with the Muslim Students Association.
In 2015, the book “Women in Islam & Refutation of some Common Misconceptions,” authored by the Saudi scholar Dr. Abdul-Rahman al-Sheha was distributed during Islam Awareness Week.
Following is a quote from this book:
“Although beating of women is generally forbidden, Islam permits the beating of wives in a restricted and limited sense only as a final solution and acceptable valid reason when all else fails. This is analogous to spanking children when all else fails and they must learn a lesson in obedience for their own protection and success.”…..
