Indonesia: Muslim protests turn violent, police question Christian governor over blasphemy claims

Nov 8, 2016 3:57 pm By Robert Spencer

“On Friday tens of thousands of Islamist protesters took to the streets of Jakarta and demanded Ahok be arrested after it was alleged he made comments about the Koran. What was a largely peaceful protest quickly turned violent as hard-line Muslims began attacking police and media crews and setting cars on fire. One person died and more than one hundred were injured. The violent events forcing President Joko Widodo to postpone his visit to Australia.”

And now Ahok has been questioned over claims that he insulted the Qur’an. This illustrates yet again: violent intimidation works. That is a lesson that Western authorities have been all too anxious to reinforce.

An update on this story. “Jakarta Governor Purnama questioned by police over allegations he insulted the Koran,” by Samantha Hawley, ABC.net.au, November 7, 2016:

The Governor of Jakarta has fronted the press after spending almost nine hours with police over blasphemy allegations linked to last week’s violent protest in the Indonesian capital.

Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, known as Ahok, faced more than a dozen questions after being summoned by police over allegations he insulted the Koran.

He emerged to tell the waiting media if they want any more information they should get it from the investigator.

“I want to go home. I’m hungry,” he said.

Ahok supporters say the allegations against him are politically motivated ahead of a local election next year.

On Friday tens of thousands of Islamist protesters took to the streets of Jakarta and demanded Ahok be arrested after it was alleged he made comments about the Koran.

What was a largely peaceful protest quickly turned violent as hard-line Muslims began attacking police and media crews and setting cars on fire.

One person died and more than one hundred were injured.

The violent events forcing President Joko Widodo to postpone his visit to Australia.

Blasphemy allegations came after Ahok said his opponents had deceived voters by attacking him using a verse from the Koran.

The verse implies Muslims should not choose non-Muslims as leaders.

Ahok apologised for his remarks, insisting he was not criticising the Koranic verse but those who used it to attack him.

      David,

So much for tolerance and freedom of speech.

Islam is what it is: a TOTALITARIAN POLITICAL IDEOLOGY! (Fearful of retribution, smart muslims go along with the crowd.)

If Billary is elected, with muslim males taking four wives and populating the U.S. with 6 and 7 kids per wife –

I give America 25 years of democracy. After that….

      Sharia Law:

      • Theft is punishable by amputation of the right hand.

      • Criticizing or denying any part of the Quran is punishable by death.

      • Criticizing or denying Muhammad is a prophet is punishable by death.

      • Criticizing or denying Allah, the moon god of Islam is punishable by death.

      • A Muslim who becomes a non-Muslim is punishable by death.

      • A non-Muslim who leads a Muslim away from Islam is punishable by death.

      • A non-Muslim man who marries a Muslim woman is punishable by death.

      • A man can marry an infant girl and consummate the marriage when she is 9 years old.

• Girls’ clitoris should be cut (per Muhammad’s words in Book 41, Kitab Al-Adab, Hadith 5251).

      • A woman can have 1 husband, but a man can have up to 4 wives; Muhammad can have more.

• A man can unilaterally divorce his wife but a woman needs her husband’s consent to divorce.

      • A man can beat his wife for insubordination.

      • Testimonies of four male witnesses are required to prove rape against a woman.

      • A woman who has been raped cannot testify in court against her rapist(s).

      • A woman’s testimony in court, allowed only in property cases, carries half the weight of a man’s.

      • A female heir inherits half of what a male heir inherits.

• A woman cannot drive a car, as it leads to fitnah (upheaval).

• A woman cannot speak alone to a man who is not her husband or relative.

• Meat to be eaten must come from animals that have been sacrificed to Allah – i.e., be Halal.

      • Muslims should engage in Taqiyya and lie to non-Muslims to advance Islam.

All those matter you have mentioned should be of grave concern to any thinking person. I just want to comment on the Halal Slaughter.
Indonesia purchases a lot of meat from Australia, this trade is very important to us. I understand that a modified form of Halal slaughter is practised in our meat works, it is still cruel but it has been approved by animal welfare authorities, but there is very little public criticism of this.
But is was interesting to note the massive public outcry when pictures were released of total cruelty in Indonesian slaughterhouses where cattle exported live from Australia were being killed. It temporarily shut down our cattle trade with Indonesia.

But as to the other aspects of Sharia law, much of this is basically in effect at a totally unofficial level throughout Sydney’s Muslim dominated south west suburbs. Even on last night’s news one of their clerics was in court for solemnising child marriages. (The case was dismissed, not sure why.)

This is a relatively minor news story here in Australia, we have more important things to worry about such as sporting celebrities getting busted for drug use. Why should we be worried about Muslims rioting in the streets of Jakarta, after all that is somewhere “way out there”.But hang on a moment; Indonesia is Australia’s closest neighbour and with 200 million Muslims getting militant perhaps we should be just a little bit concerned.
Likewise we see the rise of militant Islam in our other close neighbour, Malaysia. Let us hope that the powers that be here in Australia are taking note of these events or are they still deluded by the “Religion of peace” delusion promoted by Obama and others?

The difference is that we in the civilized West actually condemn pedophilia. Unlike in Dar-al-Islam, the abuse of children is actually *illegal* here.

Look at Mazo on this thread, where he has not a word of criticism for his coreligionist who abducted, tortured, raped, and tried to murder a 15-year-old child:

“Australia: Muslim migrant kept 15-year-old girl captive and sexually assaulted her”

      Suggestion.

If Australia had stuck its nose out of Southeast Asia for the past decades instead of readily interfering in the affairs of the area, you might not have several hundred million angry people with very nasty feelings towards your country.

Interfering in the Suharto coup against Sukarno, supporting invasion of East Timor, trying to loot East Timor’s gas fields, military intervention and subterfuge in the name of spreading “democracy” in Southeast Asia, sending old white male homosexual Australian pedophiles to Thailand to molest Thai kids, etc. A very long laundry list.

      Aussie pedophile arrested in Thailand

      http ://www.theaustralian. com. au/news/latest-news/australian-man-arrested-in-thailand/news-story/159a64e9ec7485454b370d8ffa6a3165

If Australia continues to antagonize the region and keeps sending pedophiles to molest kids, they will turn to China. Malaysia is much more willing to join with China already than populist Indonesian Widodo, but keep pushing his buttons and that of the East Timorese and see what happens.

What crap. Muslims have always hated Infidels, and rapes and murders them whenever they find them.

The first know Jihad terror attack in Australia was over a hundred years ago–pretending that support or lack of same for Suharto had anything to do with that is absurd.

And characterizing Australia’s support for East Timur against Muslim *genocide* as “loot” their gas fields is ludicrous.

Here’s what *actually* happened in East Timur:

        http://sheikyermami.com/2016/03/the-jihad-against-east-timor/

Here’s what Osama bin Laden had to say:

“The crusader Australian forces were on Indonesian shores, and in fact they landed to separate East Timor, which is part of the Islamic world.”

Hut why would anyone expect the vicious Mazo to say anything against Muslim genocide? After all, it is perfectly Islamic.

        • Mazo says

          Nov 9, 2016 at 9:36 pm

Cravenmirage knows full well that I was talking about two separate events but cravenmirage hopes other viewers will be stupid to believe cravenmirage.

Australia supported Suharto’s occupation of East Timor in 1975 because they hated the Marxist FRETILIN East Timorese group resisting Indonesia.

After Suharto was overthrown by the Indonesian people, Australia then split East Timor to install their own puppets for their interests.

However the Arab Muslim FRETILIN leader Mari Alkatiri became the first Prime Minister of East Timor and stood against Australian bullying over East Timor’s natural gas fields.

Australia then incited riots to unseat Alkatiri in 2006.

Australia has since been involved in the dispute with Australia claiming East Timor’s natural gas fields and Australia was caught red handed spying on East Timor over this dispute.

The verse implies Muslims should not choose non-Muslims as leaders.

What verse is that? Why isn’t ABC news repeating it? And “implies” that? What do classic muslim commentators say about it?

At best, sloppy news reporting. At worse, willing disinformation.

    • gravenimage says

Angemon, Qur’an 4:144 is translated thusly in Indonesian-English:

“Oh, you how believe! Do not take people who are unbelievers as your leaders since they actually are not of the family of Believers”

      http://www.mizanproject.org/do-not-take-unbelievers-as-your-leaders/

There are also texts elsewhere that mandate that no unbeliever is to have any authority over Muslims. I think that is in the Hadith.

    ………………..

This should not surprise–the police in Muslim lands most often harass and even arrest the Infidel *victim* in such cases.

And what he said was not “blasphemy”, in any case–it is true that the texts of Islam say that no Infidel is to have any authority over them.
