The proposal to build up to 80 homes became a hot issue in the legislature, where members unanimously adopted a motion Tuesday directing the Minister of Municipal Affairs to inform municipalities that “no real-estate development can be based on religious or ethnic segregation.”
Bravo to those in Quebec who have denounced this scheme for houses based on Sharia-compliant mortgages, despite Nabil Warda’s claims that he is developing Muslim housing to “make it easier” on Muslims who believe that paying interest to purchase a house “is a sin.” Note also that Warda does a rather deficient job at being subtle when he refers to these “nasty Quebecois” in his robust defense of Sharia financing:
I didn’t hear people say, ‘OK, we have to go and defend ourselves against these nasty Québécois by going and living alone’…..A lot of Muslims have problems with the idea of interest.
Western countries need to resist all aspects of Sharia. Proponents of the Sharia such as Warda will insidiously present it in milder forms as a benign system that Westerners must accept as a feature of diversity and inclusion, but Sharia is a system of totalitarianism, which “imposes itself on all aspects of civil society and human life, both public and private.”
“Developer behind ‘Muslim housing project’ in Montreal says anyone with shared values welcome”, by Graeme Hamilton, National Post, November 15, 2016:
MONTREAL – Nabil Warda says he just wants to make it easier for Muslims who believe that paying interest is a sin to buy a house. So last month he had an email sent to members of a suburban Montreal mosque to gauge interest in a housing project with a halal financing arrangement that would skirt the need to pay interest on a conventional mortgage.
Radio-Canada broke news of the “Muslim housing project” planned for Brossard Monday and, within 24 hours, the three main parties in the National Assembly had denounced it.
Premier Philippe Couillard, speaking Tuesday in Morocco, where he is attending the United Nations climate conference, worried non-Muslims would face discrimination.
“Discrimination works in both directions, and so does inclusion; we are in favour of mixed housing for cultural communities and religious groups,” Couillard said.
The proposal to build up to 80 homes became a hot issue in the legislature, where members unanimously adopted a motion Tuesday directing the Minister of Municipal Affairs to inform municipalities that “no real-estate development can be based on religious or ethnic segregation.”
Coalition Avenir Québec leader François Legault, whose party is proposing a values test for all immigrants, described the proposal as an affront to Quebec values.
At a time when restricting religious attire is a recurring theme in Quebec political debate and when some municipalities have blocked proposals for new mosques, the proposed housing project could be seen as a defensive gesture.
But Warda said that is not the case.
“I didn’t hear people say, ‘OK, we have to go and defend ourselves against these nasty Québécois by going and living alone.’ That is not at all my motivation,” he said in an interview.
What he has heard are people who have been renting for 30 years and wish they had something to show for all the money. Although views differ about what Shariah law dictates for Muslims living in a society where mortgages are the norm, many refuse to take out loans that charge interest.
“A lot of Muslims have problems with the idea of interest, which in Arabic is called riba,” Warda said. “That means if you pay more than you were loaned, you are doing something that is very, very, very, very bad from the Muslim point of view.”
He said interest can be circumvented thorough an arrangement in which a house is bought by the bank and then the resident buys it back over time, paying a premium that is considered the bank’s profit, and not interest.
“Let us call it a technicality, for me as an accountant, but for the believers it is not a technicality,” Warda said. Similar arrangements have been used at Muslim housing developments in Ontario and Alberta.
We are here in Canada. We came of our own will. Our intention was not to come to isolate ourselves from society.
He said non-Muslims would be welcome to move into his project of prefabricated homes, but they would have to share the values of their Muslim neighbours.
“You don’t drive drunk on the street. If you want to drink alcohol, you drink it in your house,” he said. Women could choose whether to wear the headscarf but they could not walk around in a halter-top and shorts.
“There must be some modesty in the way you dress. We don’t want women living there going half-naked down the streets. We don’t like that,” he said. “If they want to do that, let them go and live in downtown Montreal.”
He has scheduled a meeting Friday evening at the Brossard mosque, the Islamic Community Centre of South Shore, to see if there are enough takers. He said he needs a critical mass of 50 potential buyers before the land can be purchased.
But he has heard opposition closer to home, including from the imam of the Brossard mosque, Foudil Selmoune.
“We are here in Canada. We came of our own will,” Selmoune said in an interview. “Our intention was not to come to isolate ourselves from society or from the community.” He said it would be more constructive for Warda to use his financing proposal to help Muslims buy existing homes rather than creating a Muslim neighbourhood….

Mark A says
This development proposal is a disgrace and wouldn’t be tolerated in Canada if any other non-Muslim religious group proposed a segregated housing project restricted to its members only and enforcing its own religious rules in the neighbourhood.
It’s good to see the three parties in the Quebec National Assembly are publicly coming out against this proposal.
Unfortunately this is not the first such development proposal in Canada and I doubt it will be the last.
Within the last year, a developer in Toronto proposed a government subsidized public housing project restricted to Muslims and there was a public outcry when a non-Muslim disabled man was turned away simply because he wasn’t Muslim.
Public vigilance is required as these Muslim only development proposals will likely keep coming.
BLC says
These developments are public housing. If they want the buildings to be inhabited by Muslims only, public funding should be withheld.

Hear, hear, BLC.

That would appear to circumvent Allah’s will would it not? I’m sure the Almighty can see through this little scheme. It would be interesting to see what the muslim scholars are saying about this. Islamic Banking is another apparent distortion of Allah’s will to pay interest in a round about way, but not call it interest.

That’s the sleight of hand by which “Shari’ah finance” works. If it was just this sort of stupidity, it would not be so bad–but such monies often wind up funding violent Jihad, as well.

But apparently it’s alright to institute sharia law across the world and to intimidate, threaten and subjugate non-Muslims to an inferior second-class status. Apparently it is alright to murder non-Muslims in accordance with the Koran, the Hadith and the example of Muhammad in Medina. Apparently it is alright to murder women in honour killings, punish them when they get raped and beat them if they are “disobedient”. Apparently it is alright to throw homosexuals from rooftops, amputate the limbs of those who steal and kill others who either blaspheme against Islam or leave the faith.
Paying interest on a loan? For Muslims, apparently that’s really something worth worrying about.
gravenimage says
Yes–loans with reasonable interest are one of the cornerstones of a free market.
But for Muslims, this–along with other reasonable matters such as insurance–are forbidden, but demanding Jizya and “tribute”, kidnapping for ransom, piracy, raiding, and enslavement are all perfectly Islamic. *Ugh*.
balafama says
bigger question is why even come to canada and change it to whatever islamic hell hole wardas family migrated from? .do these people realize that the reason why some of their societies are hell holes is because of the numerous sharia laws unsuited to modern progressive society? when will these hypocrites learn . also do they think calling it a premium vs interest really fools anyone?
gravenimage says
They didn’t come to Canada to escape their Islamic sh*tholes, balafama–they came to Canada to turn it into an Islamic sh*thole as well. That’s what “Hijira” is all about.
John Thomas says
Immigration? That’s OK in their minds. Integration and gratitude? Not bloody likely.
Max Publius says
Let’s think this through rationally. It’s a fact that Muslims are about 99% of terrorists worldwide. The world is on fire largely because of Muslim supremacism, bigotry and hatred in all it’s forms, from currently mild crap like this in Canada, to full hyperextremist ghoulish rape/torture/dismemberment under the Islamic State. By the way, there is no proof Islam is anything but an iron-age compilation of myths, exaggerations and tall tales (and no scientific validity to its supernatural claims), and even its moral compass is manifestly perverse.
So “tolerant Canada” is spreading terror and misery by importing it under the policies of their effete leftist pretty boy prez. Did anyone else notice the line in the article?: “Similar arrangements have been used at Muslim housing developments in Ontario and Alberta.” Why isn’t Trudeau (and Obama, Merkel, Hollande, etc.) being put on trial for state crimes?

Mohammedan ghetto = no go zones = ‘Islamic Law’ patrols = intimidation of non-Mohammedans. Bottom line. A bad idea.
Aardvark says
The whole idea of sharia mortgages is ridiculous. They end up paying the same amount, but by some financial sleight of hand they manage to call the fees rent, rather than interest.
It is as if you accept addition, but find multiplication to be in some way bad, bad, bad… So instead of saying 2 x 3 = 6 you have to say 2 + 2 + 2 = 6.
You can only get away with this crap with mohammedans, who have spent the last millennia marrying their first cousins, thus causing a dramatic drop in their average IQ. Anybody with more than two brain cells still firing would just laugh at these shenanigans.
branepilot says
The US and Canadian Constitutions are obviously Islamophobic.
They must be changed to accommodate our new masters.
Those you cannot criticize are your masters, you know.
Cretius says
Building a Muslim only housing project would only create a Muslim ghetto. The EU example shows that it would become a no-go zone with Muslim thugs enforcing Islamic law.
Angemon says
Perfect encapsulation of how bankrupt islam is – calling it a “premium” instead of “interest” and deifying one whole demonizing the other when both amount to the same thing… Pilgrimage to Mecca, circling the kaabaa, kissing the stone, stoning the devil – all heresy when pagans do it but part of islamic orthodoxy when muslims do it.

Creeping Sharia. If they don’t like our laws, leave!
Isabella says
This project has to be stopped. Imagine the young girls will be living in a ghetto and the police will have a hard time going there. Why are so fooled to allow such cancer that can spread?
Guy Jones says
Talk about Islam’s twisted and evil sense of morality — paying interest and drinking alcohol is forbidden; vilifying and slaying non-Muslims is encouraged and demanded as a religious duty.

All true, Guy.

And we know what *that* means–that there will be a Shari’ah patrol there, and such Islamic norms will be imposed on any Infidels foolish enough to consider buying there.
A “No Go Zone” in the making, if Montreal is foolish enough to allow it.

bernie says
Graven: exactly. From what I understand, Canada has bylaws anyway which prohibit drinking alcohol in public (except in bars and restaurants), and there are concrete laws against drunk driving as well. Most Canadians and Americans don’t like seeing women so covered up that you cannot even see their faces (you can only see their eyes, sometimes not even that), because it’s considered rude in Western culture. If he doesn’t like to see women or girls (Muslim or non-Muslim) who wear, say T-shirts, shorts or jeans during spring or summer, then he should try to get the city government to institute a bylaw that would apply that to everyone. But, if it doesn’t come to pass, then he should respect that. What’s next? Churches in Quebec cannot chime bells for a few seconds, but all residents have to constantly listen to prayer calls from mosques that last at least several minutes each time? There cannot be any pop or classical music in shopping malls, buses, public schools or elsewhere because some fundamentalists Muslims may not like that? Canada and the U.S. do not need infernal “no-go zones” with Shariah patrols, like many cities in Europe have!
Vicky says
They must have gotten the idea from the United State’s muslim housing projects. Built specifically to house the flood of ‘refugees’ that the Obama Administration paid fake Christian organizations and child protective services, to help settle.

another NO GO ZONE built by a SOCIALIST GOVERNMENT, for the benefit of ISLAMIC TERRORIST. i am sure some will come south to visit AMERICA. just a matter of time.

Another step forward for Islamists. So naive these pusillanimous politicians… helping sowing the Sharia. Multiculturalism without assimilation, integration, etc… Quebecers will be experiencing an unprecedented threat to their language, values and traditions. Something has to break!

I’ll focus on just this one part:

“He said interest can be circumvented thorough an arrangement in which a house is bought by the bank and then the resident buys it back over time, paying a premium that is considered the bank’s profit, and not interest.
“’Let us call it a technicality, for me as an accountant, but for the believers it is not a technicality’”
————————————
This is the kind of thing that is so intellectually absurd, such a cheat, I don’t know how a person could do it and feel safe that Allah would accept this trick as alright. It’s a workaround so that the bank gets its interest. The lender knows it, the lendee knows it, and Allah – if he existed – would know it.
If profit on a house is alright, why isn’t interest on lent money alright? As the sharia workaround for home loans demonstrates, interest on the loan is equivalent to the bank buying the home and then selling it to you at an additional profit. It’s illogical to say that one is okay and the other isn’t.
