The Iran deal is a disaster for the United States and the free world, as I detail in my book The Complete Infidel’s Guide to Iran. Rolling it back, as much as this can be done (we can’t, of course, get back the billions Obama has showered upon the Islamic Republic), could be the Trump administration’s greatest achievement, if they can pull it off.
“Trump’s CIA nominee Mike Pompeo promises to roll back Iran deal,” by Geoff Dyer, Financial Times, November 18, 2016 (thanks to Lookmann):
Mike Pompeo, Donald Trump’s nominee as CIA director, is a fierce critic of the Iran nuclear deal and wants to restore surveillance programmes stopped after the Edward Snowden revelations….
With his name circulating as a candidate for the Central Intelligence Agency post, Mr Pompeo took to Twitter on Thursday to promise action on the Iran deal. “I look forward to rolling back this disastrous deal with the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism.”
On Friday, he issued a statement saying it had been a difficult decision to move on from representing Kansas, “but ultimately the opportunity to lead the world’s finest intelligence warriors, who labour tirelessly to keep this nation and Kansas safe, is a call to service I cannot ignore.”
If confirmed, Mr Pompeo would replace John Brennan, who has run the CIA since 2013, after serving as President Barack Obama’s chief counterterrorism adviser….
As well as opposing the 2014 nuclear deal with Iran, Mr Pompeo has sponsored a series of bills that would increase sanctions on Iran. Earlier this year, he and two other House Republicans requested visas to visit Iran to monitor the parliamentary elections in February.
In the wake of the Snowden revelations, the Obama administration closed a surveillance programme that collected information on telephone calls by millions of Americans. Mr Pompeo has introduced a bill that would restore the National Security Agency’s access to the telephone data and could also give it access to financial and lifestyle information….

No one is uncomfortable with the CIA getting more surveillance powers than it already undoubtedly has? Is “rolling back” a treaty really in the purview of a spy agency?
Jack Diamond says
It’s not a treaty. It’s an executive agreement. What’s uncomfortable is having our intelligence services and security compromised and perverted by the likes of Imam John Brennan. A real perversion unlike the one he accuses jihadists of doing to Islam. Sanity at CIA is as welcome as sunshine, which is known to be a disinfectant.

Brennan meanwhile will roll up that prayer mat, don a kaftan and join the majesty of the next Hajh. Inshallah.
Custos Custodum says
Legitimate question – how is this conceivably within the purview of the CIA?
Sadly, the Iran “Deal” was effectively ratified in advance through the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act of 2015.
This act loudly claims to reserve to Congress the power to review a deal signed by Barry but actually seems to have had the effect of giving him carte blanche.
Custos Custodum says
P.S.: Pompeo personally may well have a significant role to play in rolling back the Iran deal for something slightly less insane.
The passage of the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act of 2015 is prima facie evidence that much of Congressional business operates on the basis of personal blackmail and backroom deals.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Trump’s nominations will meet resistance from the leftist “intelligentsia” and their brownshirts on the ground. I ask my fellow American Jihad Watchers to please let your President elected know the resistance comes from a minority, shrieking as it may be, one that does not has the best interests of the American people and nation in mind, whether they’re ignorant buffoons trying to protect a minority from a non-existing backlash or outright enemy infiltrators.

Not splitting enough hairs on Abu Sufyan’s head. They don’t consider it a forced conversion because he is only being made to say the words, not to mean them. He is submitting but there is still no compulsion in religion (belief in their hearts).
As it reads in Tafsir Ibn Humpty Dumpty:
“Narrated Jabir bin ‘Abdullah: Allah’s Apostle said, ‘When I use a word it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less.'”

“…we can’t, of course, get back the billions Obama has showered Iran.” I beg to disagree. There is a method: unilaterally cancel those issued banknotes. Treasury department can do that, even if that would create havoc in financial world. Secondly, reestablish gold standard (with strict limitation of which banknotes can be accepted for gold exchange and which not). And then they can enjoy having those worthless piles of billions in paper!
Stan Lee says
Good point, sir! The reality that is today’s Iran was scoffed at by Obama while he went to an extreme to appease Iran. How else could an air transport plane, loaded with various currencies valued at approx. $400 million, U.S., arrive in Iran in the midst of the night?
It would be poetic justice if your suggestion is acted upon by our new government, after Jan.20,2017.

This is a big step forward, but what exactly can be done about the Iran deal? Iran’s probably spent all the money’s on missiles, jets, and other military weaponry. Is Trump gonna demand it back regardless? The mullahs will be laughing their way to the nearest nuclear facility,

Mad Dog Mattis Defense Sec’y??????
Trump Lavishes Praise on General General Mattis as he warns ‘Israeli settlements’ are turning country into an ‘Apartheid’ state.
Donald Trump confirmed on Sunday that retired Marine General James Mattis is a leading candidate for Secretary of Defense, a day after the two met at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey.
The former Central Command (CENTCOM) commander was a strong critic of President Obama and his efforts to reach a rapprochement with the Iranian regime, saying that the President was “pretty much absent” in terms of crafting the 2015 Iran nuclear deal.
But while Mattis has in the past attacked the deal, since its signing by the Obama administration he’s called the agreement a fait accompli that must be accepted.
“We are going to have to recognize that we have an imperfect arms control agreement,” he said. “What we achieved was a nuclear pause, not a nuclear halt. We’re going to have to plan for the worst.”
Those comments, made this April during an event at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, were a far cry from claims by candidate Trump that he would renege the nuclear deal or renegotiate for a better one.
Backers of the Jewish state, who fear an Iranian nuclear weapon could pose an existential threat to Israel, were not comforted by Trump’s likely pick for Pentagon chief, a man with a history of troubling statements vis-à-vis Israel.
Speaking at a gathering of the Aspen Institute in 2013, Mattis gave his emphatic backing for Secretary of State John Kerry’s “valiant” efforts to reach a two-state solution, saying that the foundation of a Palestinian state was of paramount importance for not only Israel but the United States.
“So we’ve got to work on this with a sense of urgency,” Mattis said. “And I paid a military-security price every day as a commander of CENTCOM, because the Americans are seen as biased in support of Israel, and that moderates all the moderate Arabs who want to be with us, because they can’t come out publicly in support of people who don’t show respect for the Arab Palestinians.”

I don’t see any good news on this page. Unilaterally rolling back the Iran deal would be foolish. It’s a done deal now. It is too late. Not to say if Iran appears to be violating the terms in a way that intelligence reveals is bringing them closer to a bomb, by all means, react. But just to say roll it back doesn’t make any sense. Let them know your are watching, and sit back and wait for your move.
Meanwhile, there is this very bad news…
In the wake of the Snowden revelations, the Obama administration closed a surveillance programme that collected information on telephone calls by millions of Americans. Mr Pompeo has introduced a bill that would restore the National Security Agency’s access to the telephone data and could also give it access to financial and lifestyle information….
So he wants to turn America into a surveillance state. Well, that certainly would be expedient, wouldn’t it? We could clean up a lot of trash. But can you really trust your government not to abuse such power? And if you trust a Republican government, can you trust what may follow if the Dems get back in?
Once you turn it into a surveillance state, it’s 1984 all over again. Snowden practically gave up his life to free us from that spectre. You would so easily throw away his sacrifice?
Just because we are anti Islam here doesn’t mean we have to be stupid.
