Why didn’t the mosques refuse to allow him to preach? Why is it that authorities in the West constantly assume that all mosques and Islamic organizations in their countries are “moderate,” even when there is significant evidence to the contrary?
AN ALLEGED Islamic terror financier who was recently added to a US global watchlist is currently ‘preaching’ in two of Ireland’s largest mosques.
Libyan born Ibrahim Buisir (53), succeeded in having his name removed from the UN Security Council’s Al Qaeda sanction list in 2012, but continues to be classified as a “specially designated global terrorist” by the United States Office of Foreign Assets Controls.
While removing Buisir from its sanction list in 2012, the UN maintained Buisir was a “close associate” of Osama bin Laden and accused him of having been involved in supporting Al Qaeda, the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group and Egyptian Islamic Jihad.
In his first interview, given after we tracked father-of-six Buisir down to his home in a modest south Dublin suburb this week, the alleged Al Qaeda fundraiser:
Quizzed about his U.S. listing as a “specially designated global terrorist”, he responded: “The Americans, the Yankees – they are crazy.
“On that list, there is 100,000 people on it.
“I mean, to be honest, anybody from the Arab world who has been in Libya or who has been in Syria and he’s going to America, they don’t let him in the airport.”
Asked whether he is a radical, Buisir laughed and replied: “What’s a radical? I don’t know. I’m a practical Muslim.
“I would like to see Muslims that they are free. I like to see Muslim free lands. I like to see Palestine, they are free lands. I do go to Clonskeagh, South Circular Road, I go to many mosques. I’m milling a stone for Muslims here.
“I am a preacher, I go every Friday helping the homeless.”
This week, he denied the allegations against him, saying they were concocted by Libya’s now defunct Gaddafi regime.
“Because I am in opposition against Gaddafi’s regime, it was all done by the Libyans,” he said.
“And now that Gaddafi is gone the allegations are still there.
“What am I? I am not doing anything.
“Even now I have no proper bank account. It has [ruined my life]. If you cannot work, if you cannot deal, if you have no bank account.”
Asked how about specific allegations that he had fundraised for Osama bin Laden, Buisir vehemently denied ever doing so.
“Do you think Al Qaeda need money?” he asked.
“Do you think bin Laden, he needs money? A man who inherits €300 million when he was nine years of age?
“But Bin Laden is gone. Allah Bless his soul!
“I did not know him. I never met him. I don’t know why they would say these things. Ask Gaddafi. I am a victim of Gaddafi’s regime.
“My cause is I have six kids to run after. I don’t support anybody – I’m supporting my kids.”
Asked whether he knew altar boy turned botched suicide-bomber Khalid Kelly, Buisir said he did not, but said that authorities here share in the blame for his death.
“I did not know. Khalid Kelly, he feel for a cause and he died. He didn’t do any harm to this country.
“I mean, technically, the man, they raided his house three or four times and they make his life hell for him so they put him in that corner.
“I don’t know if he was fighting for Islamic State or for Al Qaeda or any groups.
“That’s his decision, I’m not here speaking for Khalid Kelly or any others.”…
